Quotes of the day
posted at 10:35 pm on March 9, 2010 by Allahpundit
“If Democrats didn’t have all the incentive they needed to pass health care reform already, then conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh may have provided the final push they needed by vowing to flee the country if the reform bill is passed.”
***
“It is not clear if Limbaugh was making a joke, if he was saying he would leaving the country permanently, or if he was saying he would leave just for health care.”
***
***
“I’ve had all kinds of reporters: ‘Are you serious? Do you really mean this?’ So I’ve had to patiently explain today to people who do not bother to stay informed on this stuff what the genesis and the primary context of my comment was. I said, ‘Look, there are insurance companies who don’t want to be put out of business.’ We’ve talked to them on the program. I’ve talked to them privately. They are establishing health care clinics with quality doctors in places like Costa Rica. They’re going to continue to sell policies to people who have the ability to fly down there and get treatment. If I have to get thrown into this massive government health care insurance business and end up going to the driver’s license office every day when I need to go to the doctor, yeah, I’ll go to Costa Rica for treatment, not move there…
“You know, I am in such hot water now. People in New Zealand are sending me e-mails: ‘How come you’re not coming here? You’ve been telling everybody you’re moving to New Zealand and now you’re saying you’re going to Costa Rica.’ I did not say I’m going to Costa Rica. The stupid people in the media who cannot trouble themselves to read my transcripts or listen to this program, listen to out of context stuff.”

As soon as I heard him say it, I know the libtard leftist media would spin to this.
cntrlfrk on March 9, 2010 at 10:36 PM
If anything, Rush will invest some of his millions into an offshore healthcare system for Americans. There will be tons of money to be made from that. Heck, where can I buy some stock?
wildcat84 on March 9, 2010 at 10:37 PM
The Limbaugh thing spread far and wide because people take Think Progress and Media Matters at face value. Some sites you’d think know better.
Bilby on March 9, 2010 at 10:37 PM
Funny, it’s perfectly clear to me. Then again, I went to the source instead of relying on lying sacks of crap blogs.
Bilby on March 9, 2010 at 10:39 PM
Wow! Just think of the concept! A country where you could buy the health care which YOU desire! /boggle
Metanis on March 9, 2010 at 10:40 PM
For someone they HATE, the MSM sure listen to him a lot. Or should I say 1/2 listen?
GarandFan on March 9, 2010 at 10:40 PM
Media Matters has to be the most humorless organization on the planet. Might as well start forcing coal up their Clymers to produce diamonds to introduce a modicum of value to their organization.
daesleeper on March 9, 2010 at 10:40 PM
Costa Rica is looking better every day.
BHO Jonestown on March 9, 2010 at 10:40 PM
It’s called Jetstream health insurance. Big government tax to follow.
Terrie on March 9, 2010 at 10:40 PM
That fool Ben Smith over at Politico posted just a snippet of what Rush said and the libs went apeshiit crazy.
Of course they were set right by others telling them about the context but it didn’t matter, the left was on fire and they were going for the gold.
Bishop on March 9, 2010 at 10:41 PM
The SRM report whatever they want, whether it’s a half-truth or an outright lie. They can no longer be considered “news” organizations, but simply propoganda machines.

We can have ships, like the USS Comfort anchored just outside US waters….And we can fish off the deck too. No license required!

Psst, the password to actually listen to the real broadcast of Rush Limbaugh’s show is aasdfasdfasdf…
daesleeper on March 9, 2010 at 10:42 PM
Unlike liberal hacks that SWORE they were going to leave the country if Bush won…Rush Hudson Limbaugh Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm, believes that the United States of America IS the best place to live in the world.
Pull your heads out, MSM. You crotchrots.

If Costa Rica has good medical services and good doctors and nurses, why not?

RalphyBoy on March 9, 2010 at 10:45 PM
Couldn’t companies simply set up certified clinics and hospitals in Mexico. I imagine they could set up American shops down there and make money from people fleeing ObamaCare. Us poor peoples without insurance go down there already for drugs, doctors, and dentists.
El_Terrible on March 9, 2010 at 10:45 PM
Costa Rica ROCKS
John the Libertarian on March 9, 2010 at 10:46 PM
Sort of like pirate radio, we will have pirate healthcare and fishing, all in international waters.
I like it.
wildcat84 on March 9, 2010 at 10:46 PM
Rush should start reading the Bill on his show…
… then wait for Obowma to complain he is using “props”.
Seven Percent Solution on March 9, 2010 at 10:46 PM
Let’s buy Costa Rica and start our own country.
Buddahpundit on March 9, 2010 at 10:46 PM
Oh I think they hear it all, but pick, and choose bits , and pieces that will best suit their lame arguments. Then there are those so dependent they need others to do their thinking, and listening for them….that lap it up like a dehydrated camel.
capejasmine on March 9, 2010 at 10:47 PM
No point in the dope smugglers going back empty. They could run medical supplies back over the border.

That could be neutralized by reading it from twin teleprompters.
RalphyBoy on March 9, 2010 at 10:49 PM
Never thought the day would come when I’d have to go to Mexico or Canada for healthcare.
Thanks you IDIOTS!!!! who voted for this alien life form!
katy on March 9, 2010 at 10:50 PM
Sometimes I think some of these people know they are full of it when they say this stuff, they just do it anyway. Obviously Rush was talking about health care. In fact, I actually know someone who went to a clinic like this right over the border in Mexico. The doctors and the staff are American and so are most of their patients.
Terrye on March 9, 2010 at 10:50 PM
How about Texas? It’s closer.

I can’t wait until my condo is finished in Costa Rica. Maybe I can sell time shares for those looking for healthcare after Barry rams it thru.

Nope. Giant spiders in Texas, cocoon and carry a man off in the middle of the night like a blue-bottle fly.

HornetSting on March 9, 2010 at 10:54 PM
Well,..yeah, and then there are the fire ants. But, there would be superb medical facilities to fix that. Don’t know about the man cocoons, though.

thomasaur on March 9, 2010 at 10:57 PM

MeatHeadinCA on March 9, 2010 at 10:57 PM
What? I’m not man enough for both of you?
MeatHeadinCA on March 9, 2010 at 10:57 PM
Media spins Rush. Dumb media comments on media spins. He gets them every time, even when he isn’t setting up.
I don’t really understand how they expect to marginalize a guy when the only way people believe them is if they don’t listen to Rush. So who are they marginalizing him to? Seems like no one.
I think, therefore, mostly the media feeds the left stuff about Rush just like you feed a dog. Just to feed the appetite.
Spirit of 1776 on March 9, 2010 at 10:57 PM
Are y’all with me that we should send Obama and Carter to live in the Gaza strip when this is all done… after all, isn’t that what they wanted to transform America into?
MeatHeadinCA on March 9, 2010 at 11:01 PM
That’s how the racist libtards give themselves an out. By saying things like “We’re not sure it’s a joke, but…” they can beat the person over the head with what they said without having to acknowledge that the person was actually kidding.
And when everyone points out to them what morons they are for taking it at face value, they simply suggest that the joke was “obviously” in poor taste, or simply not funny.
“I’m sorry, but 64 gazillion people without healthcare is no laughing matter!”
CurtZHP on March 9, 2010 at 11:01 PM
Oh, OT, but speaking of Gaza, why hasn’t there been any coverage of Israel’s snubbing of Obama’s Administration today?
MeatHeadinCA on March 9, 2010 at 11:02 PM
I was thinking more along the lines of the lush cloud forests, active volcanoes, epic windsurfing, incredible beaches and beautiful women. But yeah, you’re right, I guess there’s that, too.

HornetSting on March 9, 2010 at 11:05 PM
FWIW, I’ve spent some time flying around Costa Rica and it is absolutely the most gorgeous country in Central America. It would be an ideal place to get some medical treatment and then spend a few weeks to recuperate.
hawkdriver on March 9, 2010 at 11:05 PM
Because it doesn’t attack GB or Palin, Meat. Come on…
HornetSting on March 9, 2010 at 11:05 PM
Texas fire ants once killed and ate an entire Nacogdoches team of fire fighters…and their trucks. True story.
Bishop on March 9, 2010 at 11:06 PM
Already happening. They’re recruiting pissed-off US doctors to provide private-type healthcare to expat Americans in offshore facilities. Should be quite a brisk business if Obamacare happens.
bofh on March 9, 2010 at 11:07 PM
I prefer to call it the Banana Hammock… but I iz scared of Mr Sting …
I’m also scared of Thomasaur… wouldn’t want to cross his path.

HornetSting on March 9, 2010 at 11:07 PM
My bad… it’s not like I couldn’t go to Huffington Post to learn about what’s going on outside of the Green Room oriented blogosphere.
MeatHeadinCA on March 9, 2010 at 11:08 PM
The state-controlled media don’t even try any more.
SouthernGent on March 9, 2010 at 11:09 PM
HornetSting hits the nail on the head!!! If it doesn’t attack GB or Palin, it is not newsworthy or HA worthy.

It certainly is, with the most beautiful blue water I’ve ever seen and the beaches aren’t bad either.
I’ll send you my address. Can you hang wallpaper?

I would like to congratulate you on your DFC hawk. I know we all have sent messages via different medium but I am happy for you because those things come from dedication and hard work.
thomasaur on March 9, 2010 at 11:11 PM
This is your last warning
;-)
MeatHeadinCA on March 9, 2010 at 11:12 PM
The response patterns are always the same. I saw a thread on a lefty message board that was hyperventilating about this story, both because (a) they want Rush to move away and (b) because it proves, to their feeble minds, that Rush is a hypocrite (ZOMG!!! RUSH SUPPORTS UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE IN COSTA RICA!!!).
Then, once someone points out the truth, that Rush didn’t claim that he was leaving the country and that getting health care in Costa Rica in that context would not be a demonstration of support for universal healthcare, they seque immediately into generic Rush bashing.
I’m sure it’s too much to ever hope for a moment of reflection or pause, or even the slightest acknowledgement of error, but I keep looking.
Kensington on March 9, 2010 at 11:12 PM
Maybe instead of paying so much attention to this statement, they should listen to Rush when he tells the House dimmocrats that if they pass the bill, that will be the end of the health care “reform”. Chumps.
darwin-t on March 9, 2010 at 11:12 PM

I’ll be leaving the country, too. I’m thinking Texas or maybe Alaska.
joe_doufu on March 9, 2010 at 11:26 PM
Well sure, the DFC pales in comparison to say, my Armed Forces Expeditionary medal, which I received for floating around on a ship off the coast of Panama.
Hard work, let me tell you, not everyone can just sit in the shade on a US Navy vessel while yelling at new recruits to keep chippin’ that paint under a hammering sun.
Bishop on March 9, 2010 at 11:27 PM
O/T:
I missed the first round of the factor tonight but I’m catching it right now. O’Reilly and Lou Dobbs are DEAD WRONG on creating a national I.D. card to (as they say) to keep illegals from working in this country, AND these idiots assuming that the laws already on the books will be inforced.
A national I.D. card is the first step to the mark of the beast in my opinion. “WE” already have a national I.D.—-it’s called citizenship!
Rovin on March 9, 2010 at 11:28 PM
But seriously, an actual DFC? That’s quite an accomplishment, you don’t get those for warming a chair in the rear areas, that’s for certain.
Congratulations, HawkDriver.
