Quotes of the day

posted at 10:35 pm on March 9, 2010 by Allahpundit

“If Democrats didn’t have all the incentive they needed to pass health care reform already, then conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh may have provided the final push they needed by vowing to flee the country if the reform bill is passed.”

***
“It is not clear if Limbaugh was making a joke, if he was saying he would leaving the country permanently, or if he was saying he would leave just for health care.”

***

***
“I’ve had all kinds of reporters: ‘Are you serious? Do you really mean this?’ So I’ve had to patiently explain today to people who do not bother to stay informed on this stuff what the genesis and the primary context of my comment was. I said, ‘Look, there are insurance companies who don’t want to be put out of business.’ We’ve talked to them on the program. I’ve talked to them privately. They are establishing health care clinics with quality doctors in places like Costa Rica. They’re going to continue to sell policies to people who have the ability to fly down there and get treatment. If I have to get thrown into this massive government health care insurance business and end up going to the driver’s license office every day when I need to go to the doctor, yeah, I’ll go to Costa Rica for treatment, not move there…

“You know, I am in such hot water now. People in New Zealand are sending me e-mails: ‘How come you’re not coming here? You’ve been telling everybody you’re moving to New Zealand and now you’re saying you’re going to Costa Rica.’ I did not say I’m going to Costa Rica. The stupid people in the media who cannot trouble themselves to read my transcripts or listen to this program, listen to out of context stuff.”

So, Drywall, it’s been a while since I’ve seen a troll… What brought you out tonight? Did Palin kick you off of her front yard again?

MeatHeadinCA on March 9, 2010 at 11:53 PM

Myself not having been a consistent talk radio listener guy for the last…oh…ever, and having been moreso over the past year, I just have to say that…dude, Rush is right. The guy plays the legacy media like that golden fiddle at johnny’s feet.

It’s scary funny.

Are you guys EVER going to win another Stanley Cup?

It’s been since 1993… I went to finals games 3 and 4 in LA… I’m still traumatized from the overtime losses against the Habs…

Question: how does a hockey fan from Canada ever see the Stanly Cup?

Two answers:

1. They visit the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto…

2. They watch the NHL Playoffs every year to see which American team wins, then plan their vacations…

Hee hee hee…

One of your leftist talk-masters is lying to you and taking Mr Limbaugh’s words out of context. Can’t say that I’m surprised.

I’m with Rush. I’m a proud American, but if I need a medical procedure without red tape, and Costa Rica is where the best doctors have gone, I will devise a strategy to spend my money and go there if American health care gets ruined as I fear that it might by Pelosi’s Congress and our reprehensible president.

I am always amazed that people don’t actually listen to Rush Limbaugh at all in most cases–except for these kinds of selected clips—are so stupid that they think Media Matters is somehow credible. Every week there is some MSM faux Rush outrage. You do realize most times, he “tweaks” the liberals to see them dance like little leftist monkeys shrieking about _________ topic. The rest of us just laugh…

Oh, and Panama is a good choice for medical care. Lots of former military retirees live there and utilize Hospital Punta Pacifica for anything from heart to hearing issues and the physical therapy is great, too. People were flying in all the time from the US. I got outstanding care by an OBGYN and Pediatrician (both present at birth) that were educated in the US for under $800 for the birth of my son when we lived there.

Who’s kidding anyone. Once this plan for control (does anyone in their right mind stillthing these salivaating control freaks give rat’s butt about your health?) is established -they will prevent you from leaving the nation for better care – these are people who openly dare to jail their bosses if they refuse to buy insurance, why would they not jail you for for “Undermining the security of America’s health?”

And you comfortable home-schoolers…be ready, for they can’t allow their propaganda machine to be undermined by allowing parents to teach their kids the trutn -after all -they belong to the village.(also their union bosses don’t like you doing a better job)

It is amazing that so many are so easily willing to give away their freedom for false security. No wonder they say that we’re fallen man – we so easily worship false gods.

Don L on March 10, 2010 at 5:59 AM

Obviously Rush was talking about health care. In fact, I actually know someone who went to a clinic like this right over the border in Mexico. The doctors and the staff are American and so are most of their patients.

Terrye on March 9, 2010 at 10:50 PM

There are American MD’s and Dentists setting up practices down there already. The fee’s are considerably less, less over head. And they get paid cash. They get their WHOLE fee charged. No waiting for 6 months with 7 submissions to an insurance company that is jerking them around. I think for routine stuff we will end up gladly paying cash at a reasonably fee to a Doctor and circumvent the system. Unless we both end up going to jail for it.

It was pretty clear he said he was going to CR for healthcare. I am always amazed that libs who think they are so much smarter then the rest of us rubes, always believe everything they read on Huffpo as gospel without doing their own research. kelley in virginia on March 10, 2010 at 8:10 AM

Medical tourism will become big business (even bigger than it is now) very rapidly once non-US clinics have not only the US market but also the world market that can no longer travel to the US for care.

Missy on March 10, 2010 at 8:23 AM

I will not blame the wealthy for seeking healthcare offshore. If I were wealthy I’d do the same. But like all things the Democrats do, they want us “great unwashed” to blame the wealthy so we won’t pay attention to the evil they do. And why not? Class envy has worked for them for decades. They won’t abandon that tactic now. I just won’t fall for it anymore. Will you?

ladyingray on March 10, 2010 at 8:43 AM

Why go all the way to Costa Rica? I’m sure there will be a thriving medical business in The Bahamas. Much closer, they use the $USD as currency too.

And I can see a situation in the future when Fidel dies, Cuba opening up shop for medical services.

The really ironic thing is that the people who the Dems are supposedly helping with this monstrosity will be hurt the most. The middle, upper middle and upper classes will get quality care and a vacation out of it. The poor will get 12 week wait lists to see a doctor.

It is called Medical Tourism, Google it.
Many countries you wouldn’t expect are attracting the best doctors and include luxury hotel stays. Some insurance companies are now offering the service. The most frequent user are the Brits

(*Making up numbers*)
If a hip replacement in the US is $75k (or a 3 year wait in the UK) and it is $25k in India, the insurance company will pay 100% and the airfare/hotel for two for 14 days. At an 80% copay, the save 10′s of thousands.

barnone on March 10, 2010 at 9:47 AM

Funny, I’ve thought the same thing. I’ve looked into retiring in another country. I could live like a queen in places like Panama, Costa Rica, etc. on my meager retirement. Here I would struggle the rest of my life. In fact, if I could get a decent job in one of those countries I might go sooner than later. I was considering Mexico but it turned too violent.

Even if Rush were to keep his promise to leave if Health Care is passed he would be showing how hypocritical the lefties that have said they would leave if this or that happened.

If he left, he would still be on the air telling us why he left and show he is a man of his word, and advising us to continue checking our six. We know what happens when you do not check your six you get shot in the back.

Don’t you understand, those evil insurance companies don’t care about you like Nanzi, Dingy, and L’il Barry do? They’re only out to make their 4.5% profit.
What I find hilarious is that those are the very companies that will benefit the most when 50 Million TOTALLY NON-EXISTENT people are forced to buy an almost cadillac plan that will be subidized by your tax dollars. That transfers 50 – 200 BILLION from the IRS to the Insurance company EVERY YEAR. At least it will until the Piven side of the equation crashes the system and po’ l’il Barry Soetoro will have to help out ever’body because those evil insurance companies are gone out of business.

WE were on vacation in the Bahamas a couple of years ago and my 24 yr old son cut his foot badly enough to need sutures- the resort told us we could go to the Princess Margaret Hospital (the “public” or free option) and possibly wait 12 hours or we could go to Doctor’s hospital where the wait would be much less, but we wold have to pay cash up front for services rendered in the ER. WE opted for the Doctor’s hospital and were required to give a credit card deposit of $400 before they would treat him – He was seen immeditely, given a tetanus shot, had the wound cleansed, sutured and x-rayed with the same (if not better) standard of care as here in the USA ( I am an RN, so was observing closely) . On our way out we were redirected to the billing dept where they asked for our credit card again. How pleasantly surprised we were to discover we had a $115 credit for which they needed our card to run it through. So for a total of $285 he spent one hour in the ER from start to finish and got first class treatment and a free follow up appt for 3 days later!

That being said, I had total hip replacement less than a year ago and the total cost was around $30,000 of which our insurance covered all but about $3000, but I see the point for the insurance companies paying for folks to go elsewhere- why not send them to another country…
