Quotes of the day

posted at 10:35 pm on March 8, 2010 by Allahpundit

“Then there is that ever-important variable, time.

“In the scenario best for the Democrats, the Tea Party peaked with Mr. Brown’s election, and Democrats have time to recover. ‘We’ve had our ’94 wake-up call,’ Mr. Greenberg said. ‘We may look back and say they played this out a year early.’…

“And then there is the skeptical view, which, like Mr. Cook, sees only the mounting problems: stubborn unemployment, a paralyzed Washington, the drip-drip of scandal and high unfavorability ratings.

“‘There’s more time for things to change,’ he said, ‘but there’s more time for things to snowball.’

***
“A thrashing of the Democrats in the mid-terms would not necessarily be the beginning of the end for Mr Obama: Bill Clinton was re-elected two years after the Republicans swept the House and the Senate in November 1994. But Mr Clinton was an operator in a way Mr Obama patently is not. His lack of experience, his dependence on rhetoric rather than action, his disconnection from the lives of many millions of Americans all handicap him heavily. It is not about whose advice he is taking: it is about him grasping what is wrong with America, and finding the will to put it right. That wasted first year, however, is another boulder hanging from his neck: what is wrong needs time to put right. The country’s multi-trillion dollar debt is barely being addressed; and a country engaged in costly foreign wars has a President who seems obsessed with anything but foreign policy – as a disregarded Britain is beginning to realise.

“There are lessons from the stumbling of Mr Obama for our own country as we approach a general election. Vacuous promises of change are hostages to fortune if they cannot be delivered upon to improve the living conditions of a people. The slickness of campaigning that comes from a combination of heavy funding and public relations expertise does not inevitably translate into an ability to govern. There is no point a nation’s having the audacity of hope unless it also has the sophistication and the will to turn it into action. As things stand, Barack Obama and America under his leadership do not.”

***
“A Republican on Capitol Hill points out that we’re going through a health care press coverage time warp. In each of the following four headline pairs, one is from this morning. The other is from last year. See if you can guess which is which.”

I did not answer it as if it were addressed personally to me. I responded to it because I thought you were full of it with your accusation.

MB4 on March 9, 2010 at 3:40 AM

What you thought of it means, precisely, dick. And an appeal to the better character of a man I highly respect isn’t an accusation.

I assumed so, since he’s all, er… proper and shit on all of his various and sundry fora.

hillbillyjim on March 9, 2010 at 3:40 AM

The propriety is out of respect for what Ed, AP, Michelle, and Bryan (and Robert, while he was still posting) created here at HotAir. I’m sure you show your respect for them in other ways.

And I’m done with you.

Have fun with MB4 as he pats himself on the back for thinking up original insults like “whiner”.

Never forget that the Saudis have a healthy financial input into News Corp. For all you know, the Fox crew, whom I admire greatly … usually … might just be following orders on Wilders. As we all know, Wilders is a hard realist on Islam.

I regularly see Ann Coulter on Fox… I highly doubt that the Saudies are commanding FOX to shush up certain people. Further, FOX appears to be one of the most critical networks when it comes to the religion of peas. Hey, your implication could be true, but doubtful.

Accusing someone of libel sure sounds like an accusation to me and most folks don’t go off accusing someone they respect of libel. Ain’t cricket.

Most corruption (shareholder votes can have a lot of influence) proceeds slowly like the lobster being slowly boiled.

How fortunate for him that Fox News doesn’t like it, either.

MB4 on March 9, 2010 at 4:11 AM

So you have some proof that Fox doesn’t like Geert? Let me guess, Beck, BOR and Krauthammer have come together and gotten some instructions to bad-mouth Geert – to benefit Islam or something. You know, if that’s the case, we probably shouldn’t watch FOX any more because that would make them blatantly dishonest.

Oh, my, as I write, there is a report on FOX about Arab nationals breaking the rules!!! Clearly this is a conspiracy to get Americans to like Arabs more.

Shame on FOX!

MeatHeadinCA on March 9, 2010 at 4:16 AM

I’m off to bed… I gotta be careful how much FOX I watch… I wanna… I wanna… get a Koran… Where can I get one?

MeatHeadinCA on March 9, 2010 at 4:18 AM

There’s a flaw, a real compromise in Fox that you need to understand. And if you care about national security, you especially need to be attentive to it. And that is that Fox News parent company News Corp has a significant ownership by a Saudi prince that many of you will be familiar with because right after 9/11 this prince very famously offered Rudolph Giuliani a big multi-million dollar check to rebuild and Giuliani told him to stick the check where the sun don’t shine because this guy was basically blaming America for what happened on 9/11. Well this guy owns a very significant percentage of the News Corp and has let the world know that he can get things taken off Fox News when he finds them objectionable and has in the past. And I really believe this is really dangerous for America.

Rudy told him to stick the check where the sun don’t shine because this guy was basically blaming America for what happened on 9/11. Fox said “Take me to your banker”.

Mental health issues often cause an individual to despise their enviroment or culture. Folks with depression needing to move or alter their reality is an example of it.

You don’t need a Koran. A DSM IV and therapist is more like it.

I am worried about those people above. Maybe the front axle fell off their Toyotas and they hit their heads.

Terrorists, Arab nationalists and the rest really don’t have objectives which are consistent with most of Fox’s editorial positions.

So an Arab making an investment means exactly what?

IlikedAUH2O on March 9, 2010 at 5:39 AM

Why buy large amounts of a company that is already doing what you want?

The Arabs have been very poor in using investments to shape politics. I haven’t read any studies on the issue though. And I have never seen an examination of their side of the conflict either before or after 9/11.

Personal experience?

Cripes! Now we are back to Italian sportscars! An Arab owned my local Ferrari dealership and was a perfect gentleman. Never asked us to run over anyone to spread terror or anything.

Notheing like watching media propaganda of Obama and union thugs fill up halls and spew their hate and contempt for the average American Citizens.

How about GE’s sales to Iran? Watch out MSNBC.

IlikedAUH2O on March 9, 2010 at 5:33 AM

Yeah, that would actually be good advice.

Look, I’m not prepared to go so far as to say there’s a pro-Islamist conspiracy at Fox but it seems fair to me to at least consider the possibility that some news and views might be compromised at times in order to appease one of the owners. How often to you say and do things you know will piss off your boss? You use MSNBC as example. GE is a little more blatant about the fact that they’re in bed with the administration, and MSNBC makes no apologies about the fact that they’re shilling for them. We point this out here at HA on a daily basis. Have you not seen the commercials running lately about how GE is manufacturing whatever technology is necessary to make all medical records electronic and accessible by any doctor anywhere in the country? Gee what a coincidence; didn’t they just pass this new requirement through in the porkulus bill? And whaddya know? GE gets the contract to create the technology that will make it all possible.

This is the problem with multinationals (corporations and apparently individuals) having a stake in our media companies. I’m not going to join the tinfoil hat brigade and say our news is being controlled by the Illuminati or some nonsense, but I will say it’s something we should be vigilant about and prepared to question if need be.
