Glenn Beck on Massa: “This is a moment that will decide the course of this nation, possibly”
posted at 6:58 pm on March 8, 2010 by Allahpundit
From the opening of today’s show, a teaser of tomorrow’s blockbuster. I tipped my cap to him earlier for his political savvy in using Massa as a symbol for Democratic ruthlessness, but he sure does seem eager to believe this guy’s account of what he did wrong and how the leadership has supposedly mishandled it. Which, as the boss emeritus takes great pains to demonstrate, is an exceedingly bad idea:
He’s a sick, desperate pol looking to save his hide and distract from his smelly ethics problems and personal problems. This is not a hero, not a bona fide champion of reform and integrity in government. He’s the jerk who gave the figurative middle finger to his own constituents as he proclaimed last year that he would ram single-payer down their throats no matter what they thought…
And now, tainted by scandal, he’s running to Fox News to cast himself as a warrior against Obamcare and its left-wing overlords?
A radical backer of the Big Labor card check bill, he’s now trashing union corruption.
C-r-a-p-w-e-a-s-e-l.
Follow the link for examples galore. Beck knows all this, I take it, and has decided to play hardball with the left by giving Massa a forum anyway. Nothing wrong with that; it’s fine Chicago turnabout. But the more credibility he stakes on Massa’s “salty language” nonsense, the greater the risk that this backfires if the Dems produce a smoking gun proving that Massa was guilty of more than that. Just bring him on, prod him about backroom deals and political pressure, and keep away from the ethics stuff. That way, if he gets hit with something later, it’ll look like some minor attempt to distract from the real issue rather than a bullseye that discredits his entire testimony. Exit question: Is this a bad idea or not?

Who cares? It’s better than reality TV. “I like to watch”. It’s better than the movie, by far, and couldn’t happen to ‘nicer people’.

I’ve been very surprised at the lack of interest in this story from those on the right.
It seems people are missing the point. The issue is not whether or not this guy is a far-left corruptocrat with an affinity for men…

Depends on how Beck runs the interview. If he’s savvy enough, he’ll give Massa just enough rope….to hang the Dem leadership with. I’m not exactly a fan of Beck, but I think I’m at the point where I think he’s up to the task.
Beck just needs to paint the narrative. And by that I mean not paint Massa as some sort of innocent victim (or allow Massa to do the same), but focus more on the Dems being craven enough to do anything, even sacrifice one of their own immediately (that’s a key point, because they may have always planned to cast him aside before the Nov. elections), in order to get this abomination of a bill passed.
It will also give him the perfect opportunity to expose just how corrupt the “most ethical congress EVAH~!” really is, if he can prod Massa into admitting – or even just theorizing – that Pelosi and / or Hoyer knew about these allegations before they said that they did, and only turned on him when it became apparent he wasn’t going to vote their way this time.

Weight of Glory on March 8, 2010 at 7:56 PM
Massa was a no vote before not because he thought it was wrong for the country it was because it was not progressive enough. Beck wants to find out if he is still a progressive. Or has he found out the progress is not to move to a better world but progress to move to government control of everything. Beck is going to look in the guys eyes (ala PutinPootpoot (sp)) and see if he truly has had his awakening moment or is he just looking to save is but.
Is Massa done lying by the toilet and has the hangover cleared enough to start a new.
Beck will be able to tell very soon after they meet.

It’s a win-win. Either Massa stays and is compelled to vote against Obamacare to justify his statements, or the Dems have to prove he’s slime by outing the evidence, which reinforces the justifiable view that they are a corrupt party.

To paraphrase:
I think Beck may be going off half cocked here. My gut tells me Malkin is right. I’d love to see Massa rip the WH a new one but everything tells me this guy is just looking to pull his twisted butt out of the fire. Don’t get me wrong, even if he is a crapweasel, that doesn’t mean the WH isn’t as well, but Beck is really taking a risk here. In the end, Beck can hang himself by over reaching but the bad part is the left will hang all of us for his misjudgment.

Michelle pissed about this…..blames Barack.
Barack when confronted by the Queen blames Rahm.
Rahm blames Axelrod for the access card to the showers.
Axelsloth blames Pelosi for giving him the card.
Pelosi defends herself in a phone call saying Barney Frank who vouched for Rahm having access.
Frank asked by Valerie Jarrett about it in an email blames a Bush Administration official for setting up the policy that allowed Rahm access.
Valerie texts the Queen that it was Bush’s fault.
Her Majesty tells Barack to get his scrawny upstairs. She tells him to blame Bush.
Tonight on Hannity Bob Beckel blames the Bush Administration.
And so the fly buzzes along.

I would tend to place my faith in Beck to handle Massa correctly after watching how he slapped Blago and Blumenthal around. Beck has said that both the left as well as establishment repubs have designs on shutting him up, so I am confident that he has seriously entertained the possibility that this could be a trap. Maybe he can borrow a pair of Rahm’s ballet slippers to tip toe through this mine field.

Totally agree, eyes forward. But Emanuel also knows that confronting a guy in that sort of situation is likely to be especially unsettling.
If it didn’t happen the way Mass claims, most normal guys would come out and immediately call the other guy a liar. Such a strange story.
So my sense is it more than likely happened. Emanuel had probably been stalking Massa around the Capital until he could
jumpconfront him in the shower. Anywhere else and Emanuel would have be picking his teeth out of the drain.R Square on March 8, 2010 at 9:06 PM
No matter how slimy Massa is, this story needs to get out and unfortunately, if it comes from a Democrat, even a disgusting one (but come on, almost all of them are disgusting), it is a lot more credible to a certain segment of the population.
That this kind of corruption in the Democratic Party is the norm is the story, who cares what kind of guy Massa is, this information is vital to America beating back the attack from Obama, Pelosi, and Reid. I just find myself uninterested in anything else.
alecj on March 8, 2010 at 9:08 PM
Like I said on the earlier thread, Beck better have a good idea beforehand what Massa plans to say or this could end up as staking your credibility on the equivalent of a one-hour interview with James Traficant.
jon1979 on March 8, 2010 at 9:13 PM
Beck handing Massa a microphone, a camera, and a huge audience share. Is this a bad idea?
Oh HELL no it ain’t a bad idea. Just mentioning the Naked Rahm the finger poker probably seriously wounded Emmanuel. If even ONE person verifies Massa’s account, Emmanuel is practically toast – forever tagged as “naked angry shower guy”.
Another comment mentioned a pattern of attacks against Dem Obamacare detractors – how about this for a forming pattern:
- we got Dave the astroturfer being portrayed as in mid-meltdown, mea culpa-ing for his failure to do his primary job, which is to project the message.
- less than 36 hours later, we’ve got Rahm “long warm shower together” revelations, in the week before his NYT Magazine ‘write-up’
Not many dots to connect here – Skippy is looking at the math, seeing the numbers ain’t there, and Dave and Rahm are being set up to be scape goated and underbussed.
My George W says both of them will be the subject of a “2 Americans lost their jobs, and it’s a good day” announcement from Dinghy Harry before Memorial Day. Maybe even WAY before memorial day.
So, Massa on Beck – bring it. Some folks need to be less squeamish about enabling the Dems to turn on themselves. It’s EXACTLY like using mob turncoats to make a RICO case, in that you can BET that the star witnesses are going to be LESS than alter boy material. Gulp some Pepto, and press on.
If this works out, “the Chicago Way” will mean chasing guys around in a shower naked (with apologies to Sean Connery), Skippy’s two most odious hatchet men will be on the way out, Obamacare will be stillborn as wavering Dems bail like rats from a sinking ship, and we can look forward to a HILARIOUS SNL piece come the weekend.
So, bad thing? Why do you even bother to ask?

Mr. Beck has to know going in that this guy is full of it. As Bill Kristol pointed out this evening, no one made Rep. Massa resign. Fox News: Best Investment Saudi Prince Talal Ever Made
It was pile-on time at Fox News tonight as Glenn Beck, Charles Krauthammer, a gal whose name I missed and Bill Kristol all branded Geert Wilders beyond the pale tonight.
Beck classified Geert as a fascist [First they will come for Geert, then they will come for Beck].
Krauthammer said Geert didn’t know the difference between Islam and Islamism — never mind that according to Krauthammer’s idea of Islamic scholarship, neither did Mohammed [Oh what the Hell did Islam's "perfect man" know about Islam anyway!].
The gal is the middle said she agreed with Imam Krauthammer and added that if people like this (Geert) are elected to lead Holland it will suffer the consequences.
Kristol called Geert a demagogue.
In other words, a stomach-turning display — or should I say halal?
Fact is, this anti-Geert pundit solidarity will only delight Newscorp stakeholder Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal. That’s because it is Wilders in the Netherlands who stands as the unexpectedly strong spearhead of resistance to the Islamization of Europe and the wider West. As a scion of the most powerful sharia dictatorship in the world, Prince Talal doesn’t like that. How fortunate for him that Fox News [Follow the money] doesn’t like it, either.

I think this may very well be the key – the lynch pin – maybe exactly what Beck was referring to.
I think a surprising portion of the liberal congress are not the rabid statists that those in control would have us believe.
I think that a surprising portion of the liberal congress are like Ben Nelson – deer in the headlights when they come face to face with the contradictory reality of the line being fed them by the Washington elites that their constituents are going to be so ethereally grateful for the nanny treatment that they’ll not only excuse, but condone, if not outright appreciate the backroom dealing and subterfuge.
I think a fair number in congress are now looking for the exit – a way to get off the bandwagon without ending up under the wheels.
Massa has got nothing to lose – unlike his peers – and his disenchantment, however unjustified, could very easily lead to revelations that we have long suspected, been unable to verify from a public stage, and will wholeheartedly welcome.
I think Beck has a handle on something or he wouldn’t have given Massa an entire show at such short notice. This may very well turn on the exit sign for the rest of them.
Or, it could be exactly what Prince Humperdink had in mind when he so aptly proclaimed; “I think everything could be a trap – which is why I am still alive.”
Either way – this is gonna be five star entertainment. Look for the MSM pre-emptive B-B-Q’ing of Massa to be proportionate with what the administration believes the strength of his hand to be.

Something very disturbing happened today on FOX. Glenn Beck who has, for the most part, steered clear of jihad, sharia and Islamic supremacism put his toe in the water and for the first time since I started fighting the long war, I got nervous.
Beck just called Wilders a fascist, and far-right.
He also mixed up Dominique de Villepin with Jean Marie Le Pen.
What is he doing?
Why would he stigmatize Wilders this way? Wilders is the embodiment of what our founding fathers extolled. Individual rights. Freedom of speech. Not sharia law.
Was Beck saying that the UK was right to ban Wilders in the interest of “community harmony?” And the fact that he was allowed to enter the UK last week was a dire sign?
He runs videos of the riots in Greece but never runs the Muslim rampages throughout Europe.
Beck is out of his depth in this. You cannot get up to speed on Europe in one crash course. The Islamic/left wing fringe is everywhere but what right fringe is he talking about in Europe? It can’t be Le Pen, he is nowhere. Is this going after SIOE, the EDL?
Is this going to be be Beck’s narrative? If so he is wrong. And he ought to be silent until he learns everything.
Beck could destroy the freedom movement in Europe — and the US — if he erroneously stigmatizes it as fascist. The little green monster is one thing, and Glenn Beck is another.
Beck should know better. He is doing what the left wing media did to the tea parties. labeled them fascists and racists with impunity.

He is paid by a muslim so he must make his masters happy. He also now believes in global warming. So defending islam is not even a stretch for him.
In an article entitled Don’t judge Beck by his cover, Beck tells interviewer Dennis McCafferty, “You’d be an idiot not to notice the temperature change.”
“He also says there’s a legit case that global warming has, at least in part, been caused by mankind,” writes McCafferty, under the subheadline, “He believes in global warming.”
Beck’s sudden conversion to the increasingly debunked man-made global warming belief system is a shocking stab in the back of conservatives who consider Beck to be their anointed leader.
Once again, Beck has exposed himself as a chameleon who changes his political viewpoints on a whim depending on whose company he keeps. Beck is nothing more than an actor, fake crying on demand like a circus clown, posturing as some kind of grass roots conservative leader when he has abandoned every true conservative principle.

Michelle, Allah et al. I don’t need to swoon over Massa to enjoy a nice cup of Schadenfreude as the Social-Democrat-Progressive-Politburo warms up their stereotypical circular firing squad.
Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend (of the moment). Just because Massa is attacking the Obamunists doesn’t mean I have to like or support him. That’s moronic two-state thinking to think one does. I can certainly cheer him on as he slags the Administration and throw him away when he’s done. Just like the Left did when they were done with Scott McClellan.

Everyone who’s going apoplectic about Beck’s “on the right, fascists” comment needs to either (a) actually watch that segment [Part 2] of the show, or (b) clean out their ears and listen to the part where he clearly states that ‘left = communism; right = fascism’ only applies to Europe. It’s even at the bottom-right of the blackboard.
On Beck’s full spectrum, which he spent a couple of shows last week on, the left pole = total government and the right pole = zero government (anarchy).
As he explained last Monday [see Part 2, starting ~1:12] that Communism, Socialism, Fascism, etc. all belonged to the far left end of the spectrum (he blocked them into the farthest left quarter of the spectrum) — that is, total government.
[Speaking of the blackboard, his whole point in this part of the monologue is that America and Europe have been on wildly different political tracks, with Europe essentially never leaving the realm of Total Government -- thus: Left = Stalin, Right = Mussolini]
As for his mentioning Villepin and Wilders, they were merely real-world examples of how “right-wing” politicians are growing in popularity. He never labels either Villepin or Wilders as fascist (Pam and co. over at Atlas Shrugs need to dial down their hyperventilating).
When Beck does mention fascism, it is in a warning against the European “left” and the European “right” (he repeats “in Europe” for emphasis), both of which fall into that far-left quadrant (Total Government) of his political spectrum. His shift from the examples of Wilders and Villepin to general comments about Europe’s political scene is sloppy, but it is there.
Is it articulated clearly and carefully? No.
Does Beck’s precision suffer due to the rhetorical point he’s trying to make (which has everything to do with America and little to do with French & Dutch politics or the Islamic/Sharia threat to Europe)? Yes.
Is this a tempest in a teapot? YES.
Beck will probably clarify the matter during his radio show tomorrow.

Glenn Beck is like Chicken Little on steroids.

People should live in Holland for a year and then come back with an opinion about Wilders. Entire cities have become muslim. A woman in a skirt cannot walk down the street or she is called a wh0re – by Muslim men, women and children.
Most of them are on welfare and expect everything for free. The Muslim boy gangs beat up bus drivers, store keepers, etc. Geert just wants to turn off the tap.

This is tiresome. Beck responded to this back in February, when the article came out, pointing out that the article’s author distorted the context of his comments (or just made stuff up) to make it look like he said things he doesn’t actually believe.
He responded to the article’s global warming fiction on his radio show.

“This is a moment that will decide the course of this nation, possibly”
Oh, suuuuuuure. Just like with the Brown election…and the elections in New Jersey and Virginia.
Beck himself pointed out some time ago to pay attention to the other hand, not the one you are supposed to notice.
He should follow his own advice.

That question can only be answered after the interview.

Beck’s own take on whether this is a good idea will depend on the ratings. He is not that interested in the conservative cause. He is primarily interested in being a star.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Beck’s belief that Islam is a peaceful religion being twisted and perverted by “radical” Muslims is nothing new. He advocated this way back in his CNN days, long before he worked under a Saudi prince.
2Brave2Bscared on March 9, 2010 at 5:25 AM
Thanks for clearing that up.
But Beck is still dead wrong about Islam.

Slightly OT but in checking out links to Rahmrod, I just found out that our White House Chief of Staff and advisor to the President’s older brother is – Michael Moore’s agent!

That is how I feel. This is gonna be must see TV. Get him while he is angry for being forced out.
I really don’t understand all the ‘ohhh, I hope it isn’t a trap’ eeyeorisms being posted. Allah must be neutering the Republican spirit on Hot Air and turning posters into lukewarm Romney supporters.

Beck is more than willing to rain on parades, he’s questioned Palin’s authenticity, he sprinkled his special brand of buzz kill on Scott Brown’s win the morning after. I think the chances of him raising the ethos of Massa to a pedestal higher than a gutter’s level are slim to none. I would guess him to tease out the facts both about the man and his experience and let the public judge.

Oh, I for one can’t wait for that!
Remember when Glenn reminded us of what a sick, twisted freak he is the way he got weirded out by Scott Brown’s innocuous comments about his daughters during his acceptance speech, and the exceptionally lame ‘apology’ he gave about it afterwards?
I don’t trust Glenn to do the right thing because he has shown he sometimes just doesn’t get it.
