Glenn Beck on Massa: “This is a moment that will decide the course of this nation, possibly”
posted at 6:58 pm on March 8, 2010 by Allahpundit
From the opening of today’s show, a teaser of tomorrow’s blockbuster. I tipped my cap to him earlier for his political savvy in using Massa as a symbol for Democratic ruthlessness, but he sure does seem eager to believe this guy’s account of what he did wrong and how the leadership has supposedly mishandled it. Which, as the boss emeritus takes great pains to demonstrate, is an exceedingly bad idea:
He’s a sick, desperate pol looking to save his hide and distract from his smelly ethics problems and personal problems. This is not a hero, not a bona fide champion of reform and integrity in government. He’s the jerk who gave the figurative middle finger to his own constituents as he proclaimed last year that he would ram single-payer down their throats no matter what they thought…
And now, tainted by scandal, he’s running to Fox News to cast himself as a warrior against Obamcare and its left-wing overlords?
A radical backer of the Big Labor card check bill, he’s now trashing union corruption.
C-r-a-p-w-e-a-s-e-l.
Follow the link for examples galore. Beck knows all this, I take it, and has decided to play hardball with the left by giving Massa a forum anyway. Nothing wrong with that; it’s fine Chicago turnabout. But the more credibility he stakes on Massa’s “salty language” nonsense, the greater the risk that this backfires if the Dems produce a smoking gun proving that Massa was guilty of more than that. Just bring him on, prod him about backroom deals and political pressure, and keep away from the ethics stuff. That way, if he gets hit with something later, it’ll look like some minor attempt to distract from the real issue rather than a bullseye that discredits his entire testimony. Exit question: Is this a bad idea or not?

Are we really sure Massa is lying? Wouldn’t it be easier for him to just fade away so as not to keep his “indiscretion” in the news?Just saying….
sandee on March 8, 2010 at 7:03 PM
Yes, it’s a bad idea. No sense in conservatives getting involved when we can sit back and watch the dems throw hammers at each other
tommer74 on March 8, 2010 at 7:04 PM
Definitely Must See TV!!
Beck and Massa will help push back the ObamaPelosiReidcare monster to the foul swamp it sprang from.
sarahpalinfan99 on March 8, 2010 at 7:04 PM
probably bad idea, Beck is an emotional moron capable of flying off the handle and going too far.
on other hand, the more bad, constant press against Obama the sooner he’s unelectable. Throwing it all at the wall like the left does, will work eventually.
jp on March 8, 2010 at 7:05 PM
Really tough call. My instincts say this is a bad idea. And I didn’t like the way Beck framed it, which you quoted, in saying this could change the course of our nation. Really? But on the other hand, I think only Breitbart has had as much success as Beck in really delivering victories against the Obama administration. That has to count for something. Beck has Stu, and Stu is far more level headed, and Beck has him to pull him back if he gets to far “out there”; Beck has admitted as much. We’ll see. Regardless, should be exciting!
Weight of Glory on March 8, 2010 at 7:05 PM
I don’t know. One thing is that it is a PR mess for the Dems at this point. It uses up their time and energy to clean this up.
The overall impression is that whoever is lying and to what extent, there is a huge amount of shady dealing going on with health care.
INC on March 8, 2010 at 7:05 PM
I am not the biggest fan of Beck, and I think he is walking the edge of a knife here. I’m on the fence as to whether or not this is a bad idea. I suppose if he does as you suggest (AP) I think it will go well. If he is looking for anything else… I think he will be stepping on a big landmine. I with you and Michelle. Caution is first and foremost in my mind, especially given the source.

Your Beck hatred is clouding your vision again… First of all, Beck repeatedly said tonight that he doesn’t know this guy, and I expect (and will be proven right tomorrow) that he’s not going to softball this guy. He’ll hit him on being in bed with unions, he’ll discuss the ethics issues, but why should he not have a eye witness to unprecedented corruption come on and give his first hand account?
I know you don’t know this because you never watch the show (which is evident any time you talk about it), but one of the biggest themes on Beck’s show is corruption and the “Chicago Way’s” move to Washington.
RightWinged on March 8, 2010 at 7:07 PM

Does it matter if it is a bad idea? Aren’t we kinda in SERIOUS times here?

Massa’s resignation is the first “victory” Nancy Pelosi has had in this final battle for Obamacare. So far as I’ve heard, no other Democrat has flipped from “no” to “yes”, and several have gone the other way. I think it’s important to deny her this victory, lest she build up momentum. So by all means, it makes sense to stoke Massa’s defiance and reward him for trashing Obama and Pelosi. He didn’t actually formally resign today, did he?
joe_doufu on March 8, 2010 at 7:08 PM
i don’t understand why the whole hour. is beck going to talk policy in addition, maybe bring up the michelle stuff?

Exit question: Is this a bad idea or not?
As you noted, it’s all going to be in how Beck plays it. Bet the shows numbers go WAY UP tomorrow. Obama could only HOPE to have those numbers for his recent “speeches”.
GarandFan on March 8, 2010 at 7:09 PM
The wonderful thing, however, is that the news cycle is going to be driven by Massa’s comments on Beck’s show. And that is NOT what Obama wants. They were hoping that this week would be all about Obama in cherry picked settings of adoring fans shouting, “Give us health care from your stash, Obama!” Instead the news is going to be about naked rendezvous with the chief of staff.
Weight of Glory on March 8, 2010 at 7:09 PM
This will be an interesting test for the netroots. I mean, this cat did want single-payer and a stronger “cap and trade” bill, no?

Bad idea.

I’m all for this distraction from Obamas adoring town hall coverage. It makes me sick to hear the MSM coverage of these staged events as being spirited and meaningful. Sure to a hand picked group of his minions Obama does look like God. Massa makes it more interesting to say the least. The things he has said happened must have at least some truth to them. We will see.

If it can be shown that the release was based on his failing to support HC, I think it is a good idea. Not only does it expose corruption in the democrat party for having witheld the information originally, but shows them as crass for releasing it when they did.
Vashta.Nerada on March 8, 2010 at 7:15 PM
Dude, you know how funny it’d be if Beck did the interview from behind a shower curtain? Or maybe he can were that costume from the Karate Kid. Or at the end of the interview give Massa a towel or soap-on-a-rope. You can have a lot of fun with this one!
Weight of Glory on March 8, 2010 at 7:15 PM
Could easily back-fire. After the democratsocialists display all teh gayness stuff, then they will say the right-wing Nazis embraced Massa.
However, it’s obvious to any coherent person (sorry, Robert KKK Byrd and Ruth Ginsberg) that the only reason he’s being forced out is because he’s a NO vote. Otherwise, the new-found sense of morals from the democrats would have had them oust Rangel as well. Whenever democratsocialist find a moral compass, look out!

With the New York Times trying to dig Rahm an early grave, will all this dust up with Massa be the tombstone for Emmanual’s White House career?
portlandon on March 8, 2010 at 7:17 PM
Or “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.”
conservative pilgrim on March 8, 2010 at 7:17 PM
I agree.
If Beck plays it like AP suggests, then this could be a savvy move on his part to shine a light on corruption from someone who knows the score.
Beck started to lay the foundation for that today I think by pointing out that Massa is not pure as the driven snow…but it’s like having someone from the mob turning state’s evidence. You know they aren’t clean but they get a pass because the information they have is damning to the people they used to do business with.
But AP is right…Beck needs to carefully balance here and not give Massa too much leeway in defending the ethics charges against him and instead focus on the inner workings of the democrat machine in Washington.
powerpro on March 8, 2010 at 7:17 PM
MM’s not holding grudges; she simply has a great memory.

Good point. Beck has never made any mistakes, ever. I withdraw my advice.
Should Michelle withdraw hers too or is she prominent enough to offer criticism?
Allahpundit on March 8, 2010 at 7:18 PM
Re-reading what I just typed, I need to clarify that the “turning state’s evidence” analogy wasn’t something Beck said or inferred but rather something I came up with. So if anyone doesn’t like that analogy, blame me not Beck. ;)
powerpro on March 8, 2010 at 7:19 PM
As they pointed out on All Star panel, he resigned – ethic panel goes bye-bye. He does nothing in way of a vote now for the anti-ObamaCare forces. Will not be watching him with any more interest than I have for John Edwards.

It’ll be good TV. Beck needs to ask him tough questions along with giving him time to tell his Rahmbo stories. Having him on doesn’t mean he endorses or supports the guy.
Hey, it could end up like that interview with the ACORN pervert who he ended up throwing out of the studio.

It’s definitely worth watching … The way this Massa guy was yelling he really believed what he was saying. Whether it is 100% true, well, maybe only 90%.

I think it has more potential to be a good idea.
It could really start the dems either pitting one against the other, or them gathering into a howling mass of crazy, and later getting really defensive about being questioned by the press one way or the other.

Beck is over the top and his shtick is getting a little old.
Serious question (and a little off topic): If the House passes the Senate bill as is with the promise changes will be made, will the senate deal makers vote for those changes?
Has Florida Nelson spoken? Landrieu? Sanders?
These people signed off on the Senate bill with the understanding their states would get special treatment. What happens if the “reconciliation” effort strips those things out of the end result?

Glenn hasn’t gotten this far by being a pushover, his bat-snot meter will be in full auto and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him make mince meat out of Massa. If he can destruct the health care bill, the democrat progressives and Rahm Emannuel in one hour good for him.

I dunno…it has all the substance (zero) of Obama screaming in Pennsylvania today…but since when did that ever matter???
BigWyo on March 8, 2010 at 7:23 PM
I think Beck probably vetted Massa pretty well (as he said on his radio and t.v. shows).
There probably is a pretty hot smoking gun regarding indescretions, but Beck prefaced that quite adequately, if you listen to the link and hear the way Beck sets it up.
As squirrelly as Beck can come across, ya’ gotta give him credit as a pretty savvy businessman, if not a more than savvy media dude.
Whether Massa has misbehaved or not (I don’t mean to trivialize any rotten behavior), I get the sense that he feels like he has been ruined beyond what is necessary and is fighting back.
What I’m hearing is that we have a man who feels his reputation is in tatters and has nothing to lose. A cornered animal is going to take as many of his assailants as he can down with him. That’s sort of my take of where Massa is.
Keep in mind Beck saying (early on) that even if someone has been a part of the problem, if they are willing to come clean, and say, “No masse”, the American people will stand behind them.
My exit question…what are the chances that Massa could be one of those that Beck called for early last year to anonymously contact his folks and become the “re-framers?”

I am inclined to go with Michelle on this one. Massa is a foul, corrupt politician of the worst sort. While I enjoy some of what Glen Beck does, and even believe some of it, giving the creep Massa a podium to shout from is wrong, and unnecessary. Let the creep stew in his own filth.

Itchee Dryback on March 8, 2010 at 7:30 PM
I think that’s the issue in the house. I listened to some of Rush today, and according to him, some Dems want these promises of added ammendments later, in writing. However, it’s his belief, that Obama will screw them. He’ll tell them what he needs to, to get them to vote on the Senate version…as is. Once they do, it’s a done deal, and they’ll move on. Never offering to add what the Dems in the House want.
It’s going to get even more tense I think. I’m stocking up on rolaids.

It’s a win-win. Spotlighting Massa brings a bold, fresh reminder of the Dems’ sleazy dealing on Obamacare(less), to do whatever it takes to pass it, or a reminder of the general Dem sleaze, including Massa himself, along with the rest of them — Rangel, Edwards, Spitzer, Paterson, Blago, etc.
Yes, Beck may have exaggerated the meaning of Massa’s coming out, no pun intended, and it will grab ratings, but the last thing Obama, Pelosi, and Reid want right now is this.

I’ve been very surprised at the lack of interest in this story from those on the right.
It seems people are missing the point. The issue is not whether or not this guy is a far-left corruptocrat with an affinity for men…
The point is this is the THIRD time that we KNOW OF that Democrats have been ATTACKED & DESTOYED by the White House.
1. Patterson. An obvious White House hit.
2. Sestak. Bribed not to run against Specter by the White House.
3. Messa. Run out of town with information that everyone knew about because he was no longer an asset to the White House.
Does anyone else see a pattern here?

I’m guessing to give himself cover, as more details of Massa’s politics comes out. I saw no evidence that Beck is aware just how radical Massa is. Granted I missed the ending.
