Glenn Beck on Massa: “This is a moment that will decide the course of this nation, possibly”

posted at 6:58 pm on March 8, 2010 by Allahpundit

From the opening of today’s show, a teaser of tomorrow’s blockbuster. I tipped my cap to him earlier for his political savvy in using Massa as a symbol for Democratic ruthlessness, but he sure does seem eager to believe this guy’s account of what he did wrong and how the leadership has supposedly mishandled it. Which, as the boss emeritus takes great pains to demonstrate, is an exceedingly bad idea:

He’s a sick, desperate pol looking to save his hide and distract from his smelly ethics problems and personal problems. This is not a hero, not a bona fide champion of reform and integrity in government. He’s the jerk who gave the figurative middle finger to his own constituents as he proclaimed last year that he would ram single-payer down their throats no matter what they thought…

And now, tainted by scandal, he’s running to Fox News to cast himself as a warrior against Obamcare and its left-wing overlords?

A radical backer of the Big Labor card check bill, he’s now trashing union corruption.

C-r-a-p-w-e-a-s-e-l.

Follow the link for examples galore. Beck knows all this, I take it, and has decided to play hardball with the left by giving Massa a forum anyway. Nothing wrong with that; it’s fine Chicago turnabout. But the more credibility he stakes on Massa’s “salty language” nonsense, the greater the risk that this backfires if the Dems produce a smoking gun proving that Massa was guilty of more than that. Just bring him on, prod him about backroom deals and political pressure, and keep away from the ethics stuff. That way, if he gets hit with something later, it’ll look like some minor attempt to distract from the real issue rather than a bullseye that discredits his entire testimony. Exit question: Is this a bad idea or not?

I don’t think so. Beck’s enemies on the left and right will demonize him one way or the other as we have seen right here many times.

I say if we have a rift on the other side USE IT.

Beck understands that all republicans are against this healthcare plan. There is no more convincing needed on our side. He knows that to drive support for Obamacare down even further he has to start targeting Democrats. Putting on Massa helps accomplish this.

Beck probably way overstated its historical impact, but I think he’ll do a good job (and few people have been more critical of Beck than I). Beck is at his best when he’s acting as undercover investigator, with the Red Phone on the desk, taunting the White House to “call me”. Remember too that he used due diligence with Texas Tea Party Truther, Debra Medina.

Even if Massa is the biggest crapweasel ever, that doesn’t mean that his accusations about Rahm and Steny are untrue. Its pretty hard not to question the timing of these charges against Massa (which go back to New Year’s Eve). Hypothetically, if the Dems were holding back because they were essentially blackmailing him (Play ball and we’ll keep this quiet), or if they slowed down the ethics investigation so the results wouldn’t come out until after the “health care” vote, that’s another black mark against the most ethical congress evah.

So Massah is the new Beck pot of gold. Notice that Beck uses back benchers like Van Jones and now Massah for keep the money flowing to his GOLD-line? Most of the people Beck uses as props are back benchers or people no one has heard of.

I really need to get a show of Fox so I can get my pot of GOLD-line. Modern day Conservatives are such easy Marks.

How does Van Jones qualify as a “backbencher”? As to whether anyone has heard of people like him, Beck does a great job of exposing the radicals/Leftists who operate under the radar in the “centrist” and “transparent” Obama Administration, and thus makes names like Van Jones a household word. That’s a good thing, unless you’re more of a deceiver than a decider.

Cults of personality are a worrisome thing. There’s no one who’s right all the time. Not even Reagan fit that bill and he’d probably have been the first to admit that people can disagree. There are some real glassy eyed followers on both sides of the equation and that’s scary. I believe in conservatism but I don’t think any particular conservative is the second coming.

We should all be intelligent enough to make our own decision about Massa, so it shouldn’t matter if Glenn airs the interview. Glenn will present it and we will decide. But we can’t make an informed opinion if the only information we get is from the MSM. That’s the beauty of Glenn: he’s willing to go after stories that no one else will touch. In the end, the only story may be that Massa is an idiot and a liar. But there’s always the chance that there’s some truth to his claims. Even a liar will some times tell the truth. And if there is any truth to it, maybe, just maybe, it will help expose (no pun intended to Rahm’s shower scene) more of the corruption in Washington.

I hope Beck realizes that Massa is a looney!

Beck is a genious, not only does he make cash, he does it exposing a hidden agenda piece by piece. Honestly how many Americans today would have cared about the corruption going on if Beck didn’t put it in an entertaining way? The Republican Party/ COnservative movement should be hater free!

If Massa is even half the crapweasel he seems to be, then tying him to our legitimate points against Obama will only serve to hand our opponents a hammer to beat us with and to undermine our legitimate points. Rush and Hannity see this and are distancing as far from this guy as they can. Beck is giving him a whole hour, for what? If he calls him a nutjob for the whole hour then where’s the show? If he gives him any credibility and he’s a complete dirtbag then it blows back on all of us.

Some people here are as big a cool aid bunch as the left is sometimes. Beck isn’t the Messiah and conservatism doesn’t hinge on his perfection, or any one person’s. It’s ideas and principles folks, not individual personalities.
