Craig Crawford quits MSNBC, tired of being booked to do “boring” hit pieces on Palin
posted at 7:19 pm on March 5, 2010 by Allahpundit
Under different circumstances, I’d take this as a sign that the lefty commentariat’s fascination with mindless Palin-bashing might be starting to wane. But (a) it’s clearly not true, and (b) it’s really not true for the modern-day Murrow, whose program is now apt to feature more mentions of Sarahcuda in a given week than Barack Obama. No foolin’. Take away Palin and their prime time line-up would turn into some sort of hard-left version of “Wake Up and Smile.”
“Three months short of my current contract,” he wrote, “I sent the following to the boss, [MSNBC President] Phil Griffin: ‘Phil, Just wanted to give you the heads up that my situation with MSNBC has become so unrewarding for me that I’ve decided to move on. — Craig’”
In an email, Crawford tells TVNewser, “This was a long time coming. I haven’t felt like a good fit for MSNBC since the presidential campaign, and their hard turn toward point-of-view programming.
“So many of my booking calls lately have been for segments bashing Sarah Palin, for instance. I was boring myself, and surely the viewers.
Tasty trimmings from comments left by Crawford on his own blog, via ICN:
Can’t tell ya how hard this choice was to make. I’ve had a difficult time with MSNBC since the presidential primaries, should have pulled the trigger long ago. but my scotch-irish blood keeps me loyal long past the bitter end, which has long past, sadly…
i simply could not any longer endure being a cartoon player for lefty games, just gotta move on to higher ground even if there’s no oxygen…
thanks bethy, i have never and never will forgive Chris for calling me a racist after the West Virginia primary (the last time I will ever go on air with him). Probably should have resigned then and there, but better late than never.
That last reference, I believe, is to Tingles knocking him for defending Hillary’s strategy of wooing white working-class Democrats. Exit question one: How soon before the big MSNBC-bashing Craig Crawford interview on the Factor? Exit question two: Tough call for Olby. Does he abandon his exploding feud with Bill Simmons to take on Crawford or give CC a pass for now? (Exit answer: Stick with it, please!)

Hopefully he ends up at FoxNews. Hey, maybe he and Palin can team up on a story. That would be the best way to stick it to his former employer and colleagues.

Hey if Palin posts bring click to FoxNews and HotAir, why not MSNBC?

Palin.
Has anyone driven the left so crazy EVER?
Bush derangement is starting to look sane compared to the Palin derangement stuff.

How many viewers does MSNBC have now, 2….3?
GarandFan on March 5, 2010 at 7:26 PM
“Tired” of being booked on the network with some shows that have the ratings of a test-pattern and get lower ratings than the Magic Bullet informercial. How noble. As noted above, I can remember him snickering and smirking with the (worst) of them. But, if he’s a thorn in their side now like Dana Milbank (now of CNN), good.

Anybody know the last time O’Reilly mentioned Olbermann by name?
Narutoboy on March 5, 2010 at 7:27 PM
True. Bill Simmons may be overly reliant on pop culture references when writing his columns, but at least he doesn’t need Media Matters for all of his material like Uberdouche.

Things are bad when Crawford, no conservative and who recently co-authored a book with none other than Helen Thomas, is uncomfortable at MSNBC. Craig, I think, is reading the tea leaves.
TXUS on March 5, 2010 at 7:33 PM
On that Olbermann vs. Simmons feud: Unfortunately (very), I think Olbermann is….right. Comparing the difficulties that Tiger Woods faces in his comeback to that of Ali’s is absurd.
But the added shots at Simmons qua Simmons were both unnecessary and unsurprising. Olbermann just can’t help it: he’s an ass and until everyone in the world recognizes it, he simply won’t rest.
SteveMG on March 5, 2010 at 7:35 PM
Well if that isn’t giving the finger to MSNBC I don’t know what is.
btw who HASN’T been called a racist by Matthews?
Ingenue on March 5, 2010 at 7:36 PM
Which just goes to show that Palin Derangement Syndrome has replaced Bush Derangement Syndrome as the core of MSNBC’s business model.

daesleeper on March 5, 2010 at 7:36 PM
When Krazy Keith gets fired by NBC, Fox needs to hire his sorry butt right away and put him on a new show: “Hannity and Olbermann.” DUDE. I WOULD BE THERE.

Ha! I would have completely missed the KO-BS thing, since I don’t watch KO and I don’t follow Twitter these days. Simmons’ retort was gold. I hope they keep it up.

Simmons is awesome, and there is no way KO is going to win a war of words with him.
changer1701 on March 5, 2010 at 7:43 PM
Now if more would do that. However….I’m going to have a hard time trusting any of them again. They burned their bridge with me….and I don’t forget easily.
capejasmine on March 5, 2010 at 7:44 PM
I imagine that writing about Palin (if you are a deranged Lefty) is boring. She is way too normal and without angst. Making up stuff to amuse yourself isn’t much of a career path if you are supposed to be a journalist. I hope he can find a real job and keep it.
BetseyRoss on March 5, 2010 at 7:45 PM
If Olbermann bashes Craig, he will just be giving him free publicity so people will be tuning in when Craig is on Fox News. Craig was on Fox And Friends this morning. Craig is in the power rotation for Imus in the Morning so he is already a regular on Fox Business News. I am Trail Mixer so I am biased. When others were piling on Imus back in April of 2007, Craig Crawford stuck, and it wasn’t a popular position to take. Craig is just a stand up loyal person. I like the idea he is a free agent now – not under contract with MSNBC, although he is writer for CQ, and has his own blog Trail Mix. MSNBC doesn’t seem to have the best employee morale or even cares about the employee morale.
Dr Evil on March 5, 2010 at 7:46 PM
Since I don’t watch MSNBC I have no idea who Crawford is.
taney71 on March 5, 2010 at 7:47 PM
Craig Crawford should come out and quote an “unnamed source” that little Chrissy Mathews and Keith Olberdouche are gay…
Seven Percent Solution on March 5, 2010 at 7:50 PM
I don’t know Mr. Crawford but Crazy O’Relly will welcome anyone he can gossip with. What are the chances he would discuss his superior ratings?
Cindy Munford on March 5, 2010 at 7:56 PM
Yawn. I would think it would get boring, too.
John the Libertarian on March 5, 2010 at 8:00 PM
He can disagree with Gov Palin at her face
and yet
NOT be disagreeable
It might help his own ‘reputation’ as a ‘journalist’

And his book, and his premium members fan club and his book and his “Barry’s heart is in the right place” and his book.
Oh yeah, did I mention his book?

Craig Crawford is leaving MSNBC!

But he did it so well….
LifeTrek on March 5, 2010 at 8:22 PM
Here is Craig Crawford on Imus in the Morning he was discussing Sarah Palin as a possible for a third party candidate he mentioned to Imus that he had told people it wasn’t …prudent? to dismiss or underestimate Sarah Palin and popularity with her supporters.
Dr Evil on March 5, 2010 at 8:24 PM
Oh, the irony….
clearbluesky on March 5, 2010 at 8:25 PM
But you didn’t mention the whole “refer to my awesome self in the third person,” thingy.
That’s what fries my cheese more than anything else about O’rightiousness.
Honestly, I think he’s not an Obama fan only because a conversation between the two would go something like this:
O’bama: “I am the most awesome of awesomeness.”
O’Reilly: “No sir, Talking Points begs to differ. We are much more awesome in our awesomeness.”
O’Bama: “Bet me!”
O’Reilly: “Talking points doesn’t believe in gambling, but, hey, if that’s you’re schtick and the folks want to weigh in, I’m sure they will end up on our side. One thing is for sure, we are way more awesome than your awesomeness, and our ratings prove it. Nanny-nanny-boo-boo.”

Not sure but I suspect they might be able to save some money by just inviting their entire audience into the studio. They could then do away with all those expensive cameras and such.

chickasaw42 on March 5, 2010 at 11:10 PM
Indeed. Simmons’ first tweet was a pretty good shot too:
This is not going to end well for Keith.
CreatedOrSaved on March 5, 2010 at 11:40 PM
Does anyone watch MSNBC?
Maybe that’s why there is no increase in viewers after hit pieces on Palin. The only one who has MSNBC on is the toothless $5.50 per hour retired senior citizen “guart” at the mortuary.
He plays it to entertain the corpses.
Of course, the Rattle Snake House at the Zoo in Mombanitoakopbatch in SouthWest West Virginia, Population 7 rattle snakes, zero people, also have MSNBC on, but mostly to simulate the sound of the coyotes, scorpions, and cacti.
William2006 on March 6, 2010 at 2:48 AM
Not to stand up for MSNBC or anything, but they do know what their viewers want. And they give it to them night after night after night after night.
JeffinOrlando on March 6, 2010 at 4:01 PM
I watched Craig Crawford lie and lie and lie along with Keith Olbergoebbels on “Meltdown with Keith Olbergoebbels” way too many times for me to get excited about it. Unless he comes clean and describes to a letter how MSNBC has a company policy to spread Communist ideology and destroy the Constitutionalist element on the right, he’s still a useless tool. I heard, “That’s right Keith” enough times to make me sick………
