Quotes of the day

posted at 10:47 pm on March 4, 2010 by Allahpundit

“President Obama’s message to progressives who are dissatisfied with the Senate health care bill is two fold: First: Don’t forget about the uninsured. Second: Don’t forget what failure to pass this bill would do to the party and my presidency.

“In a meeting with House progressives today, Obama made the pitch…

“Obama reminded the assembled Democrats that doing nothing would be politically disastrous. ‘To maintain a strong presidency we need to pass this bill,’ the President said, according to Grijalva.”

***
“This is perhaps the greatest example of the Democrats’ enveloping myopia. They may reflexively put issues in silos, but average Americans don’t. Most voters are impressionistic, especially independents and moderates of both parties. They look at the whole of what you have done and the how of what you have done. If Democrats ram through an unpopular trillion-dollar health care bill in this climate, with Congress’ approval rating at 15%, they may well cement their image as the worst of Washington and sever their claim on the public’s trust for years to come. Even if ObamaCare delivers over time–and if it avoids the substantial premium increases that the Massachusetts universal care system has produced–it most likely will be too little too late…

“Those numbers beg the question: Would the Democrats actually be better off if their comprehensive health care bill does not pass? I tend to think so, though as I argued last week, the best course for Democrats would be to skip the all-or-nothing trap and pass a center-out bill that contains the 80% of insurance reforms on which both sides already agree. But that’s a moot point: The Democrats are going for broke (in more ways than one). The more salient question is when will the Democrats start connecting the dots–and recognize that the American people are not going to accept a government that is not willing to heed their doubts.”

I wasn’t warned aforhand that a game was afoot.

The Big Question: Is healthcare reform going to break the Obama presidency?

Not possibly, has. That’s one reason the Dems aren’t giving it up, they’re done either way.

Never be modest about your powers of observation, Watson. I cannot agree with those who rank modesty among the virtues. To the logician all things should be seen exactly as they are, and to underestimate one’s self is as much a departure from truth as to exaggerate one’s own powers.

He’s not a Strong president, which was made clear on the day he told the Rep.’s I won!
He then went on to lock out the Repubs from doing their job.

If he were a Strong president he would have viewed the 60 vote super majority and the 59% majority in the house as a curse not a blessing.

That would have caused him to govern as though the Congress was split 50/50.

DSchoen on March 5, 2010 at 4:21 AM

You make a great point. Obama is immature.

He would let his ego, and the ego of his inner circle, drive policy decisions. However, his direction, his progressive direction, is moving towards a socialist solution that will ultimately hurt the country.

If health care passes, will it help Obama?
I think he will think so. Repealing it will be a another fundamental change.

If that were to happen, then way not Medicare, Social Security, and Welfare. Get rid of all social programs.

Your keyboard to God’s ears!

I suspect part of the desperation in the White House is over the fact that not delivering on “healthcare reform” proves just how toothless the filthy lying coward in the White House really is. A Democrat led Congress and still ther rat bastard traitor has done nothing of substance that has worked after a year of his term??? The bastard’s supporters thought we would all be living in a socialist Utopia by now.

Obama needs healthcare reform far more than the American public needs healthcare reform.

Caligula bankrupted Rome in four years. This Cloward Piven tool has done it in under one. The economy will not recover before November as it is not in the interest of the Cloward Piven strategy. I’m hoping the checks and balances of the American Government will dislodge these traitors who are breaking America before our eyes. I hope socialism is truly dead in America after this nightmare is over….Impeach Maobama with the new Congress…..

Cheering on the Progressives:

Grijalva’s account was echoed by Congressional Black Caucus chair Barbara Lee, who said the President reminded them: “31 million people will have health insurance as a result of this bill.”

“Did the message resonate?” I asked.

“I think it resonates for a lot of people,” Lee said.

Who is Barbara Lee? According to the person from whom Glenn Beck got the Van Jones story originally:

In terms of the evidence about who recommended and hired Jones, Loudon says that the focus that Accuracy in Media has put on far-left Oakland Democratic Rep. Barbara Lee is correct, since she was “almost certainly complicit in getting Jones hired.” Lee is chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, was a presidential campaign adviser to Obama, and is a friend of Jones and Obama. Jones and Lee worked together on “green jobs” in Oakland.

I recommend reading the rest of the article as it reminds us once again just how radical Obama and his allies in Congress are (as well as noting how he feints moves to the right while actually moving left – and this observation comes from the Weather Underground’s Mark Rudd, and was meant to soothe Leftists who feared he was too “conservative”).

Obama is like the guard dog that guards his own dog house but licks the boots of the thieves breaking into the owner’s house.

That he is only concerned about his own self and is willing to bite the hand that feeds him with this Obamacare intrusion, shows the level of character that he lacks.

Clearly, he’s the most destructive president in the history of the republic -bar none!

Same message different words, or to paraphrase a friend; “Thank God I’m humble, unlike these other folks.”

“Obama reminded the assembled Democrats that doing nothing would be politically disastrous. ‘To maintain a strong presidency we need to pass this bill,’ the President said, according to Grijalva.”

To maintain a strong presidency one must have a strong presidency to maintain.

Disturb the Universe on March 5, 2010 at 8:04 AM

Save the presidency? Ugh. I heard these exact same comments back when Clinton got his huge tax increase pushed through. The last “yes” vote (don’t remember the name right now) said that he wouldn’t be the person to bring down the presidency. Of course, the Democrats then got shelled at the polls the following November, so it wasn’t all bad. But I remain mystified that anyone of either party thinks that this comment wins converts. The die hard party ideologues will shout “you go, girl”, of course, but party ideologues would pretty much scream that if “feces as school lunch” was being proposed. To everyone else, it smacks of nothing more than the idea that one person’s political career is far more important than the health and well-being of the entire United States. It’s the logic train that a child would make. A spoiled, petulant child.

Do not let the left take over any form of your health care unless you wish to cease to exist.

They have crammed through control control of our fiscal matters via buying up our banks which have our mortgages.

They supplanted our free speech via the PC Police.

Now they want to control our health and bodies.

Stop them before brown becomes the color of all our military and business attire.

“Obama reminded the assembled Democrats that doing nothing would be politically disastrous. ‘To maintain a strong presidency we need to pass this bill,’ the President said, according to Grijalva.”

It appears that Obama is less concerned about what is best for the people and more concerned about what is best for himself.

“The Big Question: Is healthcare reform going to break the Obama presidency?”

It may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back, but even without healtcare reform, he is doing a fine job of breaking his presidency.

rukiddingme on March 5, 2010 at 10:23 AM

“Obama reminded the assembled Democrats that doing nothing would be politically disastrous. ‘To maintain a strong presidency we need to pass this bill,’ the President said, according to Grijalva.”

This says it all. Obama wants to pass the bill to maintain a strong presidency–FOR OBAMA. Doing nothing would be politically disastrous FOR OBAMA.

Obama doesn’t care whether passing a health care bill would be politically disastrous for some Democrats in Congress because voters in their districts or states are screaming at them NOT to pass it. Obama doesn’t care whether the health care bill would financially disastrous for the American people or American business.

It’s all about the O. Nothing else matters.

When will government of Obama, by Obama, and for Obama perish from the earth?

Steve Z on March 5, 2010 at 4:33 PM

An Ass masquerading as a President found a Doctor’s white lab coat which had been left out in the sun to dry. He put it on and spoke to his countrymen. All bowed, both men and women, and he was a proud Ass that day. In his delight he lifted up his voice and brayed incoherently and then every one knew him for what he really was.

Cheshire Cat on March 4, 2010 at 11:41 PM

C. S. Lewis predicted Obama perfectly when he wrote about an Ass wearing a lion skin, manipulated by an Ape who wanted to assume the powers of the lion-king of Narnia. The Ape made a treaty with the Calormenes (enemies of Narnia) to confuse and enslave the free people of Narnia (The Last Battle).

In today’s America, Obama is the Ass, Axelrod is the Ape, and the Calormenes are in the White House, trying to confuse and enslave the people.

In C. S. Lewis’ novel, the people were delivered by two children, the real king of Narnia, and a Unicorn! Maybe that can give America some Hope and Change!
