Media pretty excited about Palin’s new “reality show”

posted at 8:06 pm on March 4, 2010 by Allahpundit

A nice example of how the press’s desire to believe the worst about Palin leads them to get things wrong. Step one: The Hollywood Reporter reports that she’s working on a “Planet Earth”-type documentary about Alaska for which cameras will follow her and her family around. Step two: Media outlets like Reuters pick up the news of a “reality show,” leading sites like Mediaite to wet their pants at the thought of the right’s blue-collar hero appearing in the sort of garish, low-rent, “Osbournes”-esque spectacle they’ve always imagined for her. Step three: The truth comes out.

The former governor, Mark Burnett (“Survivor,” “Expedition Africa,” “Eco-Challenge”) and Robert Barnett are in L.A. this week meeting with network heads about a documentary about Alaska. A source close to Palin says it is NOT a reality show of any sort, and NOT about her family, as some Hollywood media have speculated. It is about the people, geography, wildlife and wonders of Alaska. The source reports “great interest” in it from the nets. Meetings are yesterday and today with SIX networks.

In other words, it’s a “reality show” the way National Geographic specials are “reality shows.” Meanwhile, there’s a new scandal brewing: She and her chillbilly hordes descended upon an Oscar gift suite “like locusts,” grabbing everything their grubby little hick hands could handle. That’s step two of the scandal; step three is that she made a $1,700 donation to the Red Cross while she was there and, according to Andrew Malcolm of the LA Times, donated the swag she picked up to charity. As for the accusation that she wouldn’t let anyone on the scene take her picture, see C4P about that.

The exit question on everyone’s mind: What’s gotten into Juan Williams?

If Palin’s irrelevance becomes any more irrelevant then she is going to be mighty irrelevant in her irrelevance.

BTW, who is in charge of drudge today?

1st, they put this story up on there with “reality tv show”… and then removed it like an hour afterwards… and then they put up the John Roberts rumor from Radaronline… and removed that like an hour afterwards…

OT – well, I’ll make it on topic. Put her show on in place of Bill Oh’s. He’s unwatchable. Even interviewing two pro-ObamaCare Democrat Representatives he’ll have you cheering for them. (synopsis: “I have youz guyz on to explain this bill. I don’t understand it! But I have youz guyz on because we are smart. Not like those Sanchez sisters in Congress. Youz guyz are smart. We’re smarter. I don’t understand this bill!”)

I heard Juan on the radio the other day on Hannity. He’s lost it. That British guy on FBN (name?) made great points on why Obama’s economic policies are disastrous. Juan would agree with the guy and then return to his talking points defending Obama. He made no sense. Was really embarrassing.

Oddly enough my comment from the headline is still appropriate here…..

Two things. First, ninjapirate seems to be under the impression that the Hot Air Eeyore crown is up for grabs. All of us know that it is forever secure on the head of the king. Second, what was one of the constant slams against Gov. Palin? That she was the governor of a backwater state that has zero influence on the lower 48. If she does nothing else but show the strategic and resource filled state of Alaska for the jewel that it is, she will have made a difference. She has excellent instincts. Whether she can overcome the media bullying tactics remains to be seen. I love watching her try.

NO ONE denies McCain picked Palin because he thought she would be attractive to most (and many seem to think she is). You’re delusional if you think he picked her for her substance. She would still be governor of Alaska and probably little else if McCain hadn’t tapped her…so yeah, she’s successful (in the nominal way that she is) because she’s attractive.

The exit question on everyone’s mind: What’s gotten into Juan Williams?

The Titanic is going down and he KNOWS it. No longer will historians struggle to identify the worst President in American history. James Buchanan and James Earl Carter won’t even be anywhere close. Like Hannity says, BHO is hands down The.Worst.President.EVAH…Evah…evah…
Like many others, Juan pinned ALL of his hopes on The Most Colossal Failure in the history of the American Presidency. You’re going to see a WHOLE LOT of totally irrational arguments, just like this one, coming from liberals (and from the independents that voted for Obama) for quite some time to come.

My collie says:

Don’t worry. In fifty years, there will be a small group of “truther types” that will try to rehabilitate Obama’s image and re-write the history books — just like there is currently a small group of people that are trying to do the same thing for Joseph Stalin.

CyberCipher on March 4, 2010 at 8:34 PM

I realize the media wants to assume the worst about Palin, but they had to try to get this one wrong. The article I read even used the words “Planet Earth” to describe the type of documentary she wanted to do about Alaska. Even if you’ve never see that series(it looks fantastic on Blu-ray incidentally), if these morons would research for 5 seconds, they’d understand that David Attenborough is about as far removed from the Osbournes or The Hills as humanly possible.

Now certainly it’s possible that Palin and her family will appear in the documentary. What better way to guarantee ratings? But the focus sounds like it’ll be strictly on nature and not their personal lives.

Governor Palin said she would continue advocating for Alaska, and promoting it’s best interest, even after stepping down from Governorship. And that’s what she’s doing.

As for the Suite, the Suite itself invited Governor Palin to it for a photo op. And yes, everything was donated back to the suite for an auction–if you notice in the pictures, she signed several pieces.

Here is where I think your assertion falls apart: Obama is always going to have support from the ‘redistribution of wealth’ crowd. But he’s bleeding support from everyone else that voted for him, because he [basically] lied to them. A kinder way of putting it would be that he is extremely malleable in language and in dead to the moment.

Palin, on the other hand will only be gaining support because her core ideological supporters are already with her. If her appeal was physical, her numbers would be higher then they are because ideological + attractive > ideological. Her support is mostly political, and I think therefore has no where to go but either stay same or go up. Complete opposite of where Obama was in ’08.

Sarah Palin is a very attractive woman, unlike many liberals in politics. Tell me–what do you think of Hillary Clinton? Janet Reno? Michelle Bachmann? Condi Rice? Kathleen Sebelius? Nancy Pelosi? What about John Edwards?

Attractive people do well, nobody is denying that (well, they shouldn’t). Looks help in other professions, but that only goes so far in politics. But for you to glibly say that Palin has achieved her successes only because of her looks says more about you and how you feel about smart, strong woman who also happen to be attractive.

See, it applies to Obama. Maybe even more so, since he was also the token Black and a totally unaccomplished leader. The myth of his intellect has been revealed. He was was chosen by the PTB in the Dem party for the very reasons you gave for Palin.

conservative pilgrim on March 4, 2010 at 9:01 PM

Like I said, I see comments ALL the time about how hot Palin is, how guy A and B would love to be with her, marry me, MILF, etc etc. The fact that that is the first thing out of the mouth of so many says a lot. Maverick, she hardly was. Conservative in Alaska- I mean, I know that’s a tough situation to be in, but really now. Come on.

TheBlueSite on March 4, 2010 at 8:57 PM

People say the same about Megyn Kelly. That doesn’t mean she can’t do her job rather well.

Unlike Democrats, conservatives can walk and chew gum at the same time!

We also don’t treat women like garbage. Recall the ‘Bros before hoes’ campaign aimed at Hillary Clinton.

So a couple morons obsess over her looks? You can find the same thing on Daily Kos about Obummer and Michelle. Thats not why they are supporting her. They really believe her homespun hockey mom wisdom is vitally needed in the White House.

How about all of the Democrat women who think Bill Clinton is hot, despite his record?

In his first term, Democrat Perjurer Clinton had his Justice Department successfully prosecute a career female Federal employee for lying under oath about sex.

Yet when he did the exact same thing several years later, your side said he was above the law, and many women offered to take Monica Lewinsky’s place.

Had a sitting Republican President sexually exploited a female workplace subordinate (in the workplace, no less!) and then asked her to lie about it under oath, NOW would have demanded that he be taken out back and shot.

But since he was Democrat Bill Clinton, they caved.

Please try again.

I cant read McCain’s mind, but after her embarrassing and disastrous intro. to the nation, you can only conclude her looks were the overriding factor.

TheBlueSite on March 4, 2010 at 8:57 PM

Nice try to rewrite history. Her introduction went well. her speech in Akron and her convention speeches were out of this world and knocked the dems back on their butts. It was only later after the McCain campaign screwed up the interview process by allowing avowed liberals first crack at Palin when things took a hit.

unseen on March 4, 2010 at 9:16 PM

I keep wondering why Palin fans think that anyone who thinks she’s a simpleton who would be worse for the country than Obama is somehow a raging liberal.

I figure it’s the same way Obama followers think that anyone who disagrees with their messiah is a rightwing whacko.

Her intro the nation was a huge embarrassment. Avowed liberals got the first crack at her? That sounds like you’re trying to make excuses. The woman couldn’t name a single newspaper she reads! And that was after being given 3 chances to think of one! She couldn’t name a single bad scotus decision. She had no idea what the Bush doctrine was. She came off as a clueless idiot who was working on a VERY short list of talking points with no thoughts of her own.

Only difference today is she has a professional speechwriter and refuses to let anyone but her adoring fans interview her.

Come on, you guys aren’t this blind to reality surely. It’s just so amazing to see people ignore the plain facts when they just adore someone so much.

http://www.conservatives4palin.com/2010/03/melissa-lemer-corrects-record-regarding.html

The Silver Spoon, a company owned and operated by women and established with a firm belief in supporting women in business and leadership, invited Governor Sarah Palin and her family to participate in a charitable function sponsored by The Silver Spoon and the Red Cross to support the Red Cross’ disaster relief efforts in Haiti. Governor Palin graciously accepted since it was in support of such a worthy and timely cause.

The governor arrived with a small group about 15 minutes prior to our store’s official opening; and upon arrival, she and her entire group gave generous donations to the cause. We offered to open early to accommodate her schedule; she did not ask us to open early. The other venders routinely set up an hour before the event opens, so they were already there when the governor arrived. No one was asked to come in early.

When Governor Palin arrived, she and her guests made generous donations. I escorted her around and introduced her to every vendor, and they talked to her about their products and gifted her with samples. She never asked for anything but politely accepted the products. The governor and her family and guests were very gracious and respectful to everyone. We asked and the governor happily agreed to take a photo with the American Red Cross staff and the staff of The Silver Spoon. The governor stayed for a total of about 35 minutes, thanked everyone, made an additional generous personal donation pledge to the Red Cross, and then departed.

The stories currently circulating about Governor Palin’s attendance at our event are total fabrications. Just one example of the many falsehoods is the ridiculous idea that Governor Palin walked away with 40 AIAIAI headphones. In reality, she was given two pairs of AIAIAI headphones – one for herself and one for her daughter Bristol who could not attend the event. The idea that she took 40 pairs is an outrageous falsehood. It would have been impossible because the vendors only bring around 100 items for the entire two day event. They would have run out of product after an hour of opening yesterday.

Just to clarify things, the entire point of giving someone a swag bag is to have them take your product and hopefully purchase more. The whole point of giving away products is to “give them away.” That’s why we call this type of event style a “gifting suite.”

We would like an immediate retraction and an apology to The Silver Spoon, its vendors, and especially to Governor Sarah Palin.

At some point, the only thing the leftists will have left to do, after trying everything else (to destroy Palin,) is nail her to a cross.

RBMN on March 4, 2010 at 9:20 PM

Film production would bring alot of needed money into the economy up there.

This is a win-win for Alaska.

Oregon’s Governor has been begging (well, he’s bribing them) for the film industry to come to Oregon. We now have Timothy Hutton in Leverage filmed here.

Palin is brilliant for trying to get money pumping through the economy.

The woman couldn’t name a single newspaper she reads! And that was after being given 3 chances to think of one!

You are sadly misinfomed. She was given three opportunities to discuss instances where John McCain bucked his party. She could not do so. (I doubt it would have been very smart of her to do so anyway.) The only reference to what she read was an off-the-cuff question right as Palin came off a rally stage. She was clearly insulted by the question.

Only difference today is she has a professional speechwriter and refuses to let anyone but her adoring fans interview her.

Really? Who? I haven’t heard that she has a speechwriter in her inner circle. Link?
