Inevitable: Palin working on second book
posted at 8:32 pm on March 3, 2010 by Allahpundit
I wanted to kick this off with the most recent figures on how many copies “Going Rogue” has sold, but believe it or not, I can’t find a solid number. ABC reported way back in December that she’d sold 2.7 million copies, but that was surely a mistake. I wrote a post the same day noting other reports that she’d moved a million units; I think it was the print run that had been bumped to 2.7 million, not the actual purchases (yet). Anyone know the exact sales numbers?
Long story short, she’s got a money machine. And HarperCollins is ready to switch it back on.
Publisher HarperCollins announced Wednesday that the former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate is working on a “celebration of American virtues and strengths.” The book is currently untitled and no release date has been set.
Palin’s memoir, “Going Rogue,” released last fall by HarperCollins, has sold more than 2 million copies. Her new work will “include selections from classic and contemporary readings that have inspired her, as well as portraits of some of the extraordinary men and women she admires and who embody her love of country, faith, and ,” the publisher’s statement reads.
Sounds a lot like some of McCain’s books, actually. Odds on a release date shortly before the Christmas shopping season gets going: High.
Update: Politico says she’s sold more than 2.2 million copies. For comparison purposes, Bill Clinton’s memoir has reportedly sold 2.25 million. Belated exit question: Will Dubya’s book sell more or less?

Shocker.
nickj116 on March 3, 2010 at 8:35 PM
And a lot of people only bought Bubba’s memoirs for the dirty parts.

Less.
SoulGlo on March 3, 2010 at 8:36 PM
Gee, the horror… a successful author wants to do another book.
I’ll bet that Mark Levin character probably has another work in progress. And that Beck guy… what nerve.
How dare they.
beatcanvas on March 3, 2010 at 8:36 PM
I think Leno said she sold 2.5 million last night.
El_Terrible on March 3, 2010 at 8:37 PM
I have no idea. But I am buying Dubya’s book. Can’t wait!
terryannonline on March 3, 2010 at 8:37 PM
Prediction: her fanbase’s Pavlovian response will make her even richer, the media will yell “Astroturf!”, and nothing new will be said.
Dark-Star on March 3, 2010 at 8:37 PM
Does that include Kindle sales?
My wife downloaded Going Rouge to her Kindle for $9.99.

Actually, she mentioned from the start that she was going to write two books. One that explained where she came from and a second to explain where she wanted to go. In other words, one in retrospect and the other looking forward.
crosspatch on March 3, 2010 at 8:40 PM
I’m buying it too. I bought Going Rouge as well though so I’m helping out all conservatives :)
deidre on March 3, 2010 at 8:41 PM
So did I. Almost finished. I can’t believe the things that went on. It’s like they hired Obama’s people to run their campaign too.
boomer on March 3, 2010 at 8:41 PM
Great! She ought to capitalize on this while she has the opportunity. She can make money and be a motivator for the conservative cause. It’s not a one or the other kind of thing. She’s livin’ the conservative dream!
t.ferg on March 3, 2010 at 8:41 PM
BTW, I know Allahpundit got a copy from Michelle… did you read it and finish it Allahpundit?
ninjapirate on March 3, 2010 at 8:41 PM
If that’s not a typo it wasn’t Palin’s book she downloaded.

Is this one A) going to be written by her and B) going to be non-fiction this time?

Who isn’t working on a book? Not to open a can of worms, but what ever happened to Meghan’s? Still twitting for ideas on what she should wear on the cover to her billions of non-Michelle Malkin followers?

While W’s book about his life in the WH will very interesting to read, there is no way W is going to beat Slick Willy, let alone Palin.

Quitting the Governorship to be the queen of conservative media is lucrative.
PrezHussein on March 3, 2010 at 8:44 PM
The left tried to bankrupt her when she was governor with bogus litigation. Hope she ends up richer than Soros.
ajackson on March 3, 2010 at 8:44 PM
Betcha this is her “policy” book, and it hits shelves after midterms. Probably some good historical figures, a decent smattering of Reagan quotes, and examples of how to implement those themes today.
Cha-ching, and “looking back at x,y,z, here’s the best way forward.”
we’ll see.
cs89 on March 3, 2010 at 8:44 PM
Or C) Is she going to write it so that Joy Behar can read it?
MeatHeadinCA on March 3, 2010 at 8:44 PM
So I take it you’re not going to buy Palin’s new book?
Bishop on March 3, 2010 at 8:45 PM
Yeah, it’s terrible. She’s being manipulated by the publishers. Heartache.
Here’s my predication, 3 books:
1 – Biography (Going Rogue)
2 – Ideology
3 – Policy
Spirit of 1776 on March 3, 2010 at 8:46 PM
Gonna be called “Going Rogue 2″
nickj116 on March 3, 2010 at 8:46 PM
Can’t we have one thread that’s not about Obama?
malclave on March 3, 2010 at 8:46 PM
I just finished reading Going Rogue this weekend and really enjoyed it! It is intelligent, insightful, dignified and full of good humor. A very interesting perspective on what was going on behind the scenes during the campaign. Sarah has certainly led an intersting life!
I highly recommend Going Rogue!

MeatHeadinCA on March 3, 2010 at 8:48 PM
For heavens sake, I am sick of this lady! After endorsing McVain she is toast. Maybe she can write a book on how to speak conservative and endorse RINO’s while keeping idiots buying these useless books. Geeeezzzz!
Too late. She’s is morphing into McVain.

I’ve purchased too many political books since 1992 that were not worth the purchase price, so I’ll get a copy of GW Bush’s book from the library.
But the more the left, and the media hammer Palin, the more inclined I am to purchase anything she writes, edits, endorses, or suggests.
Skandia Recluse on March 3, 2010 at 8:53 PM
Three words: overexposure.
spmat on March 3, 2010 at 8:53 PM
This is the kind of book I borrow from a friend or a local library, not buy. Besides…my personal bookshelves are full to overflowing already with literature I like.
Dark-Star on March 3, 2010 at 8:54 PM
Hey, at least she has a reason to write another book everyone knows who she is and is an established public figure, our idiot and chief “wrote” biographies before anyone even cared who he was…
And this will probably be her policy/vision for America book which will be published in time to launch her bid for the White House.
Can’t wait to watch the Left’s heads collectively explode.
Sharr on March 3, 2010 at 8:54 PM
*Oh and David Brooks, I want to see him stammer about this as well.

Bravo Sarah Palin! I am happy to see a small town girl going for the brass ring. I like Sara Palin’s work ethic.

I was confused at first if I was really on HotAir or not. Couldn’t believe I was reading an AP post about Palin that did not link to a Trig Truther site.
Good job!
Bikerchick on March 3, 2010 at 8:57 PM
tru dat.
She left politics for fame and fortune. I mean, good for her…wish I could do it…but to those who still think she’d be great as POTUS I just don’t get it. I’d much rather see someone who is actually dedicated politically.
JetBoy on March 3, 2010 at 8:57 PM
I didn’t buy Palin’s book, but I’ll strongly consider getting Bush’s.

Del Dolemonte on March 3, 2010 at 8:59 PM
I second that. And the media and the libs will still criticize her for not be forthcoming enough about what she stands for or what her policy ideas are.
Mallard T. Drake on March 3, 2010 at 9:01 PM
Funny that Obowma hasn’t penned a new book in a while…
I am sure Soros and the SEIU are working on it as we discuss the issue.
Seven Percent Solution on March 3, 2010 at 9:01 PM
Gee, I just posted earlier today in one of the other 15 Palin threads that she’d be writing another book and here it is. Of course I thought the next one would be like Mitt’s and describe her vision for a Palin Presidency. Then again, that might be better left for 2011 after she’s announced her candidacy.
Doughboy on March 3, 2010 at 9:03 PM
Shouldn’t you be worshiping at the altar of Saint Sarah?
At least she isn’t a flaming hypocrite on the very system that makes her rich, unlike that lardball Moore.
Dark-Star on March 3, 2010 at 9:04 PM
Of course, The Beatles didn’t quit playing music halfway through making an album, even after they broke up, to go write books and make cameo appearances on TV talk shows.
JetBoy on March 3, 2010 at 9:06 PM
Full credit. That a pretty funny comeback.
Beatles played music because they were musicians; she talks politicals and culture because that’s who she is. We can snark about the Beatles doing it for $, but seems pretty small minded, no?
Spirit of 1776 on March 3, 2010 at 9:08 PM
Snarkmaster returns.

Is it me or for a Right leaning blog there seem to be alot of posters here adverse to making money and using capitalism? I find that sort of weird…
Sharr on March 3, 2010 at 9:11 PM
Actually I thought it was remarkably weak. JetBoy is usually better than that.
I can’t believe I’m on a so-called conservative blog and people are bitching about someone making money.

More Sarah, please! After everything she’s gone through, she deserves the success.
The fact that it drives the haters crazy is just a total bonus.
trigon on March 3, 2010 at 9:15 PM
Yeah, they kind of did, barely squeaking out Abbey Road…
Sarah didn’t “quit.” She resigned due to a slew of baseless ethics charges being brought against her by Obama operatives, making it impossible for her to govern AK and bankrupting her personally as well as being a drain on state coffers.
The book deal was negotiated after her run as VP not after her resignation.
As for the TV appearances, she didn’t resign to do that but because she’s news, they book her.
Shall we talk about all the cash garnered by big Dems like Gore, Clinton, Pelosi, Rangel, Kerry, Edwards, etc. etc. etc.?
How can Barack afford for ME-Shell to wear all those designer clothes?
(Moschino? Azzedine Alaia?-very expensive).
She wears $600 Lanvin sneakers and carries a $6,000 purse all the proceeds from 2 books?
Jenfidel on March 3, 2010 at 9:15 PM
It is only a matter of time…
Oh, wait!
Seven Percent Solution on March 3, 2010 at 9:16 PM
That’s clearly referencing that time that Sarah commanded the entire populace of Alaska to burn some books, right?

You know for being irelevant she sure did more alot of books, she sure did bump the ratings of Fox, and Leno. she sure gets the people into the stands at political rallies.
Let’s face it the only think the GOP leadership as against Palin is she is a woman and she doesn’t need them.

If Sarah, who came from humble means writes a book = Money Grubbing sell out?
If Mitt, who came from wealth writes a book = Getting his message out there?
I see how it works Allahpundit. Thanks for projecting.
Also, Why no blog post about Mitt Romney’s getting help writing his book from Nina Easton?
Weren’t you all over the fact that Palin had “help” writing a book?
portlandon on March 3, 2010 at 10:04 PM
Book sales figures are rarely disclosed. For some reason, the industry is very secretive about it.
She said when she was on The View a few weeks ago (as she sat silently while the other shrews were bashing Sarah, incidentally) that her book was coming out in August and we should all be on the edges of our seats because she has so many awesome things to tell us.
I was on Amazon yesterday and it popped up in my Recommendations. I checked it out and I think it was at #14.

Absolutely nothing is wrong with making money, and being successful. So many others, on the right, left, and middle have done it, and don’t get scrutinized, criticized, or villified for it. If this is how she’s supporting her family, then good for her.
