Video: Atheists devise creative new way to alienate people

posted at 8:54 pm on March 2, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via Breitbart, a reminder that wherever there’s an opportunity to antagonize an innocent believer, we’ll be there. I’m giving you this for three reasons. One: In case you’ve ever wondered why, even in a post-9/11 world, atheists rank below Muslims in terms of traits the public dislikes in a politician, wonder no longer. Two: As dumb and distasteful as I find this, I can’t resist the dilemma it presents between acting on principle and doing the politically wise thing. Whenever that same dilemma comes up in a conservative context — look no further than Bunning’s stand tonight, although Rush’s “I hope he fails” comment is another example — I usually opt for the “politically wise” route and am derided for it in the comments. These tools are acting on principle too. Should they bottle it up instead to avoid alienating people, or is principle always the way to go?

Three: Can it be that Hot Air hasn’t had an atheism post in more than a month? What’s happened to this site?

Communism and socialism have killed exponentially more people than even these people could claim religion has killed.

I’d outlaw leftism first, it’s far more dangerous.

What bothers me here is the university official suggesting that students could be “violating the Constitution”. Even though he’s saying they didn’t do so, the guy is an utter moron for thinking that such a thing is possible.

Really? No one here would have picked up on that.

Actually, it’s only politically unwise when Dems say it is…Rush’s quote is a good example of this. It was taken out of context by the MSM and used by the Dems as a hatchet line. Now, it doesn’t look so ‘unwise’. Remember, when he said it, it was conventional wisdom that we had to give Obama the space he needed to ‘find himself’. Even though we knew he ‘found himself’ when he met Bill Ayers.

Woops, wrong thing. Sigh.

GamerPundit on March 2, 2010 at 9:06 PM

Okay, let me get this straight. Publishing pictures of men putting their penises in places they don’t belong is equal to Jesus telling people to repent of their sins and turn to God for salvation. Choosing hell over heaven doesn’t seem like a very good deal to me. How, exactly, would that further the purposes of atheists?

Oh, that’s right, they do it for the attention, not for any reason of value. I get it. They just need a good time out.

For Pete’s sake, these children need a good time out. They really hate that they are not the center of attention, just like a toddler. Do they really think that people are going to trade the Word of God for a couple of men doing what comes oh-so-unnaturally? Hell for heaven? Not even a reasonable trade.

Most of them are just looking for meaning, and so far they have missed the mark by about 180 degrees.

Hey Allah, don’t you wish you had the balls – like Rush Limbaugh – to just speak the truth? Yeah, I know most people have no idea that Barack Obama intends to bring this country to its knees. Makes no difference. I hope he fails, too.

disa on March 2, 2010 at 9:17 PM

Was there an option to get gay porn?

This is a cute gimmick. They will get some national exposure out of this. As AllahP notes, atheists are already disliked more than Congress or Muslims (er, I added the Congress part). Telling someone in the Bible Belt that you are an atheist is a sure way to get socially shunned. Or prayed on.

GnuBreed on March 2, 2010 at 9:17 PM

I dunno. Maybe I’m wrong here, but trading bibles for porn? This is depravity, and I find it extremely curious. In my opinion, this is less about non believers, and more about anti God. They believe in God, and use this tactic to mock Him, and turn others away from Him. Interesting.

Wouldn’t it be better to use a sound, and convincing argument to say there is no God? Rather then pass out porn, in exchange for Bibles? I would think intelligent minds could do better than this.

Every year here in Enola, PA we have a pumpkin fest. Of course there are many tables from local churches asking for people to join or donate. There is also some atheists organization and there whole thing is haveing a huge piece of plywood with many different variations of religous-people-are-stupid/athiests-are-smart/if-you-believe-in-a-god-you-are-brain-dead bumper stickers. Of course, the board is in front so you don’t even have to be at the table to see what all the bumper stickers say. You know, if you have to keep going on how smart you are and how stupid people who don’t have the same beliefs you have are…

DethMetalCookieMonst on March 2, 2010 at 9:22 PM

Yet who is it set up with pron on a table trying to get folks to switch it out for a Bible so they can push their beliefs on others?

NoDonkey on March 2, 2010 at 8:58 PM

I’m not sure about exponentially more…more for sure, but maybe not exponentially. And as a percentage of the total population, those early religious conflicts, lets say from the crusades to the end of the 30 years war…you’re talking HUGE chunks of the total population…really massive loss of life. I’m not trying to excuse totalitarians or anything like that, but it does get annoying when people try and insist that JUST because religion ONLY killed 30%+ of the european and middle eastern populations multiple times, and didnt go so far as to kill 10′s of millions of people in one epoch, that its all somehow OK.

I love the interview with the university spokeshole. I wander how much freedom of speech there would be if a group of students set up a KKK recruiting station? Or passed out pamphlets on the bright side of lynching? Or depicted the “prophet” with a bomb in his turban? Or, hell, even said nice things about Israel?

These university admin guys are only brave free speechers when the targets are Christians.

As far as the kids are concerned, I hope they grow out of this phase of doing foolish things to get attention. They will learn the value of a healthy spiritual life soon enough when the hard knocks of life emerge.
