Oh, by the way, Coffee Party leader volunteered for Obama and worked for the NYT
posted at 4:52 pm on March 2, 2010 by Allahpundit
Nothing wrong with either of those things but they might have been worth mentioning in last night’s New York Times love letter to this exciting new nonpartisan civic group, might they not? William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection has all the links you need, but before you read his post, re-read the Times puff piece and see if you can find any indication that this group skews left. WaPo, to its credit, made that clear in its own profile of the CP, noting that leader Annabel Park used to work for Jim Webb and listing as one of the group’s goals their intent to “push leaders to enact the progressive change for which 52.9 percent of the country voted in 2008.” The only clue you get in the Times piece is a quote from the CP website that government is “the expression of our collective will” and a mention that the founder of the LA chapter campaigned for Obama but wasn’t especially political until lately and had actually included tea partiers at their latest meeting. In fact, to read the Times, you’d think the Coffee Party and the tea party movement were kissing cousins. Quote:
This summer, Ms. Park said, the party will hold a convention in the Midwest, with a slogan along the lines of “Meet Me in the Middle.” The party has inspired the requisite jokes: why not a latte party, a chai party, a Red Bull party? But Ms. Park said that while the Coffee Party — and certainly the name — was formed in reaction to the Tea Party, the two agree on some things, like a desire for fiscal responsibility and a frustration with Congress.
“We’re not the opposite of the Tea Party,” Ms. Park, 41, said. “We’re a different model of civic participation, but in the end we may want some of the same things.”…
Ms. Park and chapter organizers said they would invite Tea Party members to join their Coffee counterparts in discussions. “We need to roll up our sleeves, put our heads together and work it out,” she said. “That’s, to me, an American way of doing this.”
Now you’re ready for Jacobson’s post (and Tom Maguire’s), including the screencaps from Park’s Twitter feed about the danger of “going backwards in Nov.” and indulging the “paranoid fantasies” of “tea baggers.” Dialogue we can believe in! And, needless to say, another feather in the journalistic cap of Kate “Is Jason Mattera a racist?” Zernike. Exit quotation, again from Park: “we’re not going to take this tea crap anymore. let’s work for change!”
Update: Zombie has some fun with the Times and the coffee folks. I should add, to the extent that Jacobson’s implying that the CP is astroturf — I don’t think he is, but I’m not sure — I disagree. I think they’re on the level. If Democrats were going to run a ‘turf operation, would they really do it in the form of … kaffeeklatsches? They may have helped bring this thing to the NYT’s and WaPo’s attention, but so what? That’s just smart politics.
Update: I didn’t see Jacobson’s update when I first read his post but be sure to read that too. He got a call from Zernike defending her reporting. Judge for yourself which of them is right.

Be sure to read the link (above) from William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection. Park’s tweets say it all:
It is very clear from Park’s background, and her own Tweets, that the Coffee Party simply is part of the perpetual Obama campaign, a means by which to subvert the real grassroots Tea Party movement by co-opting part of the message, but in a way which supports keeping Obama in power.
Much like a parasite which feeds off of and ultimately takes over the host.

And unless all the polls in the world are incorrect, 52.9 percent of Americans don’t like the *actual* legislation they’ve seen from Unicorn Jesus. I’m guessing they voted for something else than what they got.

Judging from the LA ‘chapter’ video this meeting was held in the rooms of an Alcoholics Anonymous group. I have a suspicion that the original organizer has ideas of co-opting Alcoholics Anonymous members into her coffee party fantasy. AA general service in NYC will not permit her to continue to hold meetings in any AA meeting place and she will not be permitted to even talk bout her coffee party to AA members. Seriously this is a major No No for AA members!

The Tea Party has a tradition that can trace itself back to the 1770s. Americans have been resisting government intrusion, taxes and spending since before the States were United.
What tradition does the Coffee Party call on?

Is this a moveon inspired campaign? Or Is this preparation for The magnificent One’s 2012 campaign now that ACORN is not so pretty?
So Ms Parkie,
About that “fiscal responsibility thingy”, when is your protest against The Magnificent One happening? Please don’t forget to invite us. Also about that “civil discussion thingy”, when are you going to march against Nancy Pelosi, Alan Grayson, Harry Reid and Sheldon Whitehouse for their outrageous statements against American People and their representatives? And oh… before I forget how is that change working out for you? Did you get something from the stash?
Do I hear crickets?????

Seriously, most of that 52.9% had no idea what they were voting for. It was merely hip to vote for our first affirmative-action president.

They may not be “astroturf”, but for some reason, I keep remembering the folger’s crystals commercials from a bit back……
We have secretly switched the party from tea to coffee, do you think anyone will notice?
It’s as though this woman and the NYT think they can capture some of the enthusiasm of the tea party movement by painting themselves as either an off-shoot of it or as a group willing to work with the tea parties, when in reality, they are trying to destroy and demean the very idea of the tea party. This woman’s tweets prove her disdain and condescending attitude towards anyone believing in the tea party message.
That may not be astroturf, but it is still FAKE COFFEE.

The actual roasting process is short (several minutes), and to prevent baking, the roasted beans cooled rapidly (5 minutes or less). There are two periods of cracking sounds during a roast, “first crack” and “second crack”. The temperatures where the first and second cracks begin and end varies by type of bean and type of roaster.
“First Crackers”?
max1 on March 2, 2010 at 5:27 PM
So if we’re “teabaggers” does that make them “coffee potheads”?
Mr Snuggle Bunny on March 2, 2010 at 5:27 PM
I doubt it. What happened is that she came up with the idea, got a few people together and sent out an official looking notice to the MSM which ran with it once she had a group together.
If you know anything about monkey wrenching, anything with an official looking letterhead that sounds like it comes from a real organization gets noticed in a newsroom. And this sort of liberal pap is something they can run with by doing a slight rewrite of the ‘Coffee Party’ press release.
You’d be surprised the kind of reporting you can get if you know the motivations of the editors and how to push their buttons…especially medium to small media markets.

Seems Ms. Park has a history of dishonesty through misrepresentation. Just some more “as long as the ends justifies the means”. Why does that sound so familiar?

It appears she never finished her Doctorate work. She also seems to have a big problem with calenders and keeping dates in line. Another absolutely briliant mind. We are clearly up against a major orchestrated propaganda effort. They claim their primary agenda is “open dialogue”. I say the tea partiers give it to them. Every “coffee party” should be attended by tea partiers there to have an open and calm dialogue about individual liberty, free markets, and limited government and their importance to a free, prosperous, and peaceful people. We should pull a James O’Keefe at every one of these things and catch them in their lies. Catch them telling you to shut up and go away. Catch them telling you “we won, you lost, now accept our tyranny.” When they say the stand for “democratic principles” they mean the tyranny of the majority without limits.
