Quotes of the day

posted at 9:30 pm on February 27, 2010 by Allahpundit

“I, for one, genuinely wish that the climate crisis were an illusion. But unfortunately, the reality of the danger we are courting has not been changed by the discovery of at least two mistakes in the thousands of pages of careful scientific work over the last 22 years by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In fact, the crisis is still growing because we are continuing to dump 90 million tons of global-warming pollution every 24 hours into the atmosphere — as if it were an open sewer…

“But the scientific enterprise will never be completely free of mistakes. What is important is that the overwhelming consensus on global warming remains unchanged. It is also worth noting that the panel’s scientists — acting in good faith on the best information then available to them — probably underestimated the range of sea-level rise in this century, the speed with which the Arctic ice cap is disappearing and the speed with which some of the large glacial flows in Antarctica and Greenland are melting and racing to the sea…

“The heavy snowfalls this month have been used as fodder for ridicule by those who argue that global warming is a myth, yet scientists have long pointed out that warmer global temperatures have been increasing the rate of evaporation from the oceans, putting significantly more moisture into the atmosphere — thus causing heavier downfalls of both rain and snow in particular regions, including the Northeastern United States. Just as it’s important not to miss the forest for the trees, neither should we miss the climate for the snowstorm…

“From the standpoint of governance, what is at stake is our ability to use the rule of law as an instrument of human redemption. After all has been said and so little done, the truth about the climate crisis — inconvenient as ever — must still be faced.”

***
“The former vice president apparently finds it inconvenient even to answer calls to testify before the U.S. Senate. You can call him Al . . . but he won’t call back

“After days of calls and e-mails by FoxNews.com to the ‘Al Gore Support Center’ — located online at algoresupportcenter.com and in the real world in Carthage, Tenn — a spokeswoman for Gore declined to comment on the matter.

“‘Thank you for your kind request,’ wrote Kalee Kreider. ‘Unfortunately, Mr. Gore’s schedule is extremely overbooked and we’re unable to offer any availability. It’s very difficult to decline invitations such as yours, but it’s an unfortunate inevitability of the growing influence of the climate-crisis message and the demand on Mr. Gore’s time. We do apologize, but thanks for your interest.’”

***
“At the first opportunity for audience participation just several minutes into the proceeding, a longtime and well-known Apple shareholder–some would say gadfly–who introduced himself as Shelton Ehrlich, stood at the microphone and urged against Gore’s re-election to the board. Gore ‘has become a laughingstock. The glaciers have not melted,’ Ehrlich said, referring to Gore’s views on global warming. ‘If his advice he gives to Apple is as faulty as his views on the environment then he doesn’t need to be re-elected.’”

Hummer53 on February 27, 2010 at 9:43 PM

Actually he flipped ou in the mid-90s when he wrote “Earth in the Balance”. Had a close friend that wigged outand joined the green party after reading it. Even had the audacity to run for president in 2K – only got as far as some green party hack up in the Northeast.

AH_C on February 27, 2010 at 10:19 PM

I think Gore had a psychotic breakdown when he lost the presidency. It was his father’s dream, what he was raised to do, to be. He grew up in a Washington hotel for heaven’s sake. But I’ve read that he never really wanted a life in politics, instead preferred journalism. In any case, he couldn’t process his defeat, certainly not to George Bush. So instead of becoming president, he decided he’d become God. He’d save the world. That would show his father. And Bush.

But the scientific enterprise will never be completely free of mistakes fraud . What is important is that the overwhelming consensus on global warming remains unchanged we double down on our scam and con games.

It is also worth noting that the panel’s scientists acting in good faith on the best information then available to them in their zeal to keep the grants flowing in their direction — probably underestimated the range of sea-level rise in this century intelligence of people outside their own echo-chamber, the speed with which the Arctic ice cap is disappearing and the speed with which some of the large glacial flows in Antarctica and Greenland are melting and racing to the sea…

“The heavy snowfalls this month have been used as fodder for ridicule by those who argue have proven beyond any doubt that global warming is a myth, yet scientists our designated fraudsters have long pointed out that warmer global temperatures have been increasing the rate of evaporation from the oceans, putting significantly more moisture into the atmosphere — thus causing heavier downfalls of both rain and snow in particular regions, including the Northeastern United States. Just as it’s important not to miss the forest for the trees, neither should we miss the climate for the snowstorm…whatever happens, its because of global warming and nothing but global warming

katy the mean old lady on February 27, 2010 at 10:27 PM

Here’s what bugs the heck out of AGW catastrophe kooks. What evidence do they have that supports extreme weather. What empirical data, historical records, are there to support the premise of a destructive climate?

Rising sea levels, nope. Crops burning up, nope, and due to the extra snow in the mountains, a drought condition may be eased. Glaciers ebb and flow in natural cycles, just like the climate. Somehow, the actions of AGW is the primary rudder for the worlds climate. It defies common sense and reason.

When the obvious trail of government grants and money trails become more evident, the real story of AGW becomes a conspiracy of criminal intent and the real inconvenient truth.

Because the world still relies on leadership from the United States . . .

Not according to many of the comments I read on a British article last night about the Greek meltdown, Soros money fixing with the EU, and the barbs being traded between Greece and Germany.

There was much muttering about how Obama might really be a socialist. They are upset that they can no longer count on the US based on our neutral position on their current stand-off with Argentina over the Falkland Islands oil. I remember when we helped the Brits win a war there but ah, those were the days of Reagan and Thatcher.

Also peeved about his continued backing of global warming and the call once again by the IMF for an international monetary unit (Brits opinion on this is that the only reason they are still standing is because they kept their own monetary unit, the pound, instead of going completely to the Euro).

Honestly, the British hate Al Gore and they are getting as much in the tea party mood as we are here. It’s fabulous!

The current rage is: Weather isn’t the same as climate.

Well….We know that, dipwad! However, they ARE related and here are a couple of weather related statements that directly apply to climate; Over the past 65 years our weather has been cold and snowy in the Winter and warm and sunny in the Summer. The leaves have ALWAYS turned in the Fall and Spring ALWAYS produces copious amounts of MUD.

Nothing has changed. Some years are colder than others. Some hotter. Some years we have more snow. Other years, not so much.

While Al Bore and his fraudulent cronies are worried about the affects of a thousand years, there won’t be any clean drinking water in half of the country (or more!) within fifty years. Now THAT is an issue you can believe in.

Wherever politics tries to be redemptive, it is promising too much. Where it wishes to do the work of God, it becomes not divine, but demonic.

I hate how Gore’s op-ed (which is in tomorrow’s NYT on the 1st page of the WK — weekend? — section) uses one of the libtards’ old chestnuts.

Gore states that just because the US had a bad winter that doesn’t mean AGW doesn’t continue. As if no one watches any news and hasn’t heard reports of record cold and snows in Moscow, Italy, UK, China, etc.? I suppose they will tell us next it is only in the Northern Hemisphere.

DOH! It’s only winter in the Northern Hemisphere right now.

I don’t even trust the supposed satellite temps now. After all, does anyone seriously believe that January was the hottest January EVAH?

Gore continues to insist that the 2000s were the hottest 10 years on record when Phil Jones of the Climategate scandal admits there has been no significant warming for 15 years. What a load of crap.

At least Obama told us in his weekly address today that “we can’t control nature”?

Here’s one thing I’ll toss out, and it’s much simpler than all the political shenanigans and probably closer to his trader mindset.

Traders are paid to be patient and wait. They’re like snipers in a sense. They wait and wait for the right set up.

The USA has always been in Soros’s sights. He’s had other countries, i.e. crashed their currencies. He’s been convicted of fraud, insider trader in France. People around the world hate him, but for some odd reason we granted him citizenship. He’s into the big game now, and it’s us, the USA. He’s waited a long time like any good sniper. He bought his place, but unlike a shooter waiting for the perfect shot, Soros has taken many, smaller ones. And he’s still looking for the final shot.

Think I’m crazy?

Do some research. Get on it folks. It’s still your country.

OT- Closing Ceremony is tomorrow right? Does anyone know if Obama will be there?

journeyintothewhirlwind on February 27, 2010 at 11:00 PM

Gore is becoming Saddam Hussein…He hides in palaces, then bunkers and finally a spider hole…Save room for Lindsey Graham Al…I think he wants to join you…He’s still playing the Cap n Trade game…

Who’d uv ever thunk it, Dr. Evil? Time Magazine wouldn’t think to include Soros (who I always think of as Dr. Evil).

BTW, that second article you posted is the one I was reading last night. Quite interesting.

Haven’t had a chance to read the Steyn one yet; however, I know that Greece will lead to Spain, Ireland, Portugal, and possibly Italy — well, possibly more.

Any takers on the odds of another war between the European nations coming soon to a Germany near you?

MeatHeadinCA on February 27, 2010 at 11:02 PM

Can someone check my math, please?

2007 daily oil consumption: Total: 85,085,664 bbl/day from
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/ene_oil_con-energy-oil-consumption

42 gallons per barrel = 3,573,597,888 gallons per day
@ One gallon of oil weighs about 6.84 pounds from http://www.onlineconversion.com/forum/forum_1124894780.htm

Total weight of oil consumed = 24,443,409,554 pounds per day

Al says we add 90,000,000 * 2,000 = 180,000,000,000 pounds
of CO2 per day

So we’re adding more by-products than the product we’re starting with??

It’s late – someone please help. I don’t want to look foolish with a math mistake.

On this date in 2007, the credits were worth $4.00. In 2008, $4.50, in 2009 $2.25. Now they are worth a dime. SWEET.
