Obama: You know what sounds pretty good right now? Reconciliation
posted at 6:27 pm on February 25, 2010 by Allahpundit
The inevitable partisan ending to today’s bipartisan kabuki. I know you’re bored with summit vids by now but the baldfaced lie told here makes it must-viewing. Quote: “I think most Americans think that a majority vote makes sense.” That’s simply flatly untrue and there are not one but two polls posted in the last 24 hours to prove it. Ed already flagged Gallup’s finding of a 39/52 split opposed to reconciliation; Fox News followed up a few hours ago with even worse numbers.
If President Obama is unable to reach a deal with Republicans at the summit, 59 percent think he should start from scratch later. Some 34 percent think he should go ahead and try to pass the current bill without Republican support…
If a compromise isn’t achieved at the summit, by a two-to-one margin Democrats think the president should still try to pass the bill without Republicans. Even so, 31 percent think the president should start over in this scenario.
For independents, it’s just the reverse, by more than two-to-one they support dropping the current bill and starting over. An overwhelming majority of Republicans say the current bill should be dropped if the health care summit fails to find bipartisan agreement.
No matter. If a bipartisan deal hasn’t been reached within six weeks, says Obama, it’s reconciliation or bust. The alternative is “Plan B,” but while Blue Dogs might warm to that, House progressives probably won’t. And so, as one Democratic aide said to Politico, “It’s probably the big bill or nothing.” I don’t think I’ve seen any polls yet that have tried to gauge how the Democrats will fare in November if they pass a bill with reconciliation versus if they just call the whole thing off now, but if you see one, shoot it along to us. I’m eager to know just how toxic this toxic process is becoming. Total seats needed to retake the House: 40. Current estimate of GOP pickups from Larry Sabato: 37. Full speed ahead. Click the image to watch.

There he is, Obama, putting down the American people yet again in his typical arrogant manner. I, for one (of many), am VERY interested in the “procedure” that takes place within the House and the Senate on this bill in particular and others in general.
More and and more Americans are realizing Obama is bad for America and bad for Democracy. He should take his pseudo-socialism elsewhere. For example, Greece. Greece is falling apart due to such policies.
I say pseudo-socialism because I cannot even imagine a man who pronounces corpsmen as “corpse-men” as understanding the concept of socialism in any depth, but that is exactly what Obama brings and I want no part of it.(Obama definitely has little notion of what a Federal Democratic Republic is.)
Obama is a miserable failure and that will be his contribution to history. *”On how not to be president of the United States: A story of Democracy” will be a useful manual to presidents in the future. Of course Obama will be the subject.
And his presidency is historic–historic in that it is serving as a wake-up call to Americans across the land reminding us of the crucial importance of Liberty and Freedom. . . for without these . . . . No happiness.
*Obama`s photo will be on the cover so he can stare at that, if it makes him happy.

You do realize that the Republicans didn’t filibuster a single bill in 2009, right?
You’re not so stupid as to believe Maddow when she claims Republicans have filibustered ‘everything’, right?

I was reading a few lefty blogs and they considered that it was a great victory for them today.
It is not anything that we didn’t know what probably was going to happen.
Their victory? Showing the American public that they tried and the Republicans stalled as every argument. That’s how they are pushing it.
Reconciliation. With a huge scream to throw in the public option. Their argument is now they can go all the way.

Hilarious.
Harry Reid opens the show by denying that reconciliation was in play and Obama closes the show by stating that reconciliation is indeed their plan.
I think Obama did a very good job of explaining his ObamaCare and I have to wonder what excuse he will use now when the American people by majority eject his plan. He can’t any longer use the excuse that he just hasn’t explained it enough or the Republicans are misrepresenting the facts.

Anyone who actually believed this ShamWow Summit, needs to have their head examined. The Uberleft wants this done so they’ll do what they have to..they have been saying that for about a year. The only people he fooled were himself and the Dems in the room. He didn’t fool the Republicans or the majority of the viewers.

Why is this man so hell bent on ramming this pos bill through? That’s what I can’t figure.. He appeared bored with the GOP all day long. Ryan reamed him good – so glad the GOP was prepared. I was afraid they’d be walking into an ambush but they turned it around and prevailed! I also think Obama’s response to McCain was shameful. He is so full of himself. He may have won the election in ’08 but he’s going to lose in ’12.
GrannySunni on February 25, 2010 at 7:14 PM
Bush started the bailout of banks and saving the automakers won’t look so bad in 5 years once GM has finished an IPO and the government is no longer a major owner. Obama’s entire economic team nearly fits the definition of free market capitalism, so your comments are juvenile. You’re talking about many of the same people who ran the economy under Bush and Clinton.

The benefits do not start for 4 years, but the taxes start right away. If the American voter can gets it together long enough to elect people who can stop it before the gravy flows, we have a chance.
But if 60% of the people start getting the free stuff, Game Over.

I respectfully disagree! Again, people don’t want to live under servitude! And if what you propose actually happens, there will be no more America. We, the People, are better than that. Yes, there are about 30% of the public who want to live off of the government teat, but the rest of us….not so much! You have to understand, we are not stupid like the statist say that we are! I hope I’m not repeating something that was said earlier, but for those of us who either have no life, or have the freedom to say, “i’ma takin 6 hours off, see ya’ later (I’m ashamed to tell you which camp I’m in…but if anyone’s gotta job….?)and watched what was supposed to be “The Barack and Pony Show” but which ended up being “Captain Anger-roo:”, we just watched a president who prides hisownself as being, um, presidential, reduced to a whiney azzed four year old in a day care center.
I have mixed feelings. Jubilation that he failed miserably is wrestling with complete embarrassment that I know a bunch-a-dudes are sittin’ around in nightgowns patting their goats on the head ‘cuz they are pumped that he’s going to completely, totally humiliate the country.
Sigh! Trust me. I’da whole lot rather see our President acting, well, presidential, rather than the petulant schoolboy that he came across as.
There is little joy in my heart that these images are going out across the world, however, I DO have to admit to a certain satisfaction, and if I may borrow the words of Larry the Cable Guy: Lord, I apologize, especially to the goat herders in the mideast: the republicans cleaned his everloving clock (and I apologize.).

I would love to hear what the democratic Senate majority leader has to say today about shutting down the filibuster when this is what he had to say about it in his book:
Reid shot down the option in his 2008 book The Good Fight. Recalling the “nuclear option” debate in 2005, Reid compared lowering the filibuster threshold to “opening Pandora’s Box.”
Does Harry Reid stand by his own words or was he lying to the American People???????????
Baxter Greene on February 25, 2010 at 7:46 PM
This President is despicable in the contempt he shows for the American People. In the beginning the liar promised to televise this stinking debate on C-span so we could all watch the proceedings. Now the liar thinks the America People really don’t care that much about procedure.

For almost a year his response to mounting disapproval of his agenda has been to stamp his feet and demand to have his way — no compromise, no change, no shift to other issues. When all hope for Obamacare is lost, is he even capable of moving on? Is he capable of adapting to the changing climate? Will he play along and make a good-faith effort to lead the nation that rejects his agenda, or will he childishly try to sabotage whatever he can from the executive branch until 2012 (or impeachment)?
