Video: God doesn’t listen to Joe Biden

posted at 11:25 am on February 24, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Or maybe God just figured that Joe Biden wasn’t terribly serious about this 2005 prayer, unearthed by Breitbart TV and Naked Emperor News today. He was not the only Democrat bemoaning “majoritarian, absolute power,” either, or complaining about unilateral rules changes at that time. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton join Biden as current administration officials who have suddenly seen the light of majoritarian power:

“I pray God when the Democrats take back control we don’t make the kind of naked power grab you are doing.”

Dianne Feinstein said on the Senate floor that “it begins with judicial nominations, next will be executive appointments, and then legislation.” Now, Democrats want to skip over the first two — which never happened — and leap right to legislation. Chuck Schumer called the 2005 suggestion to exempt judicial nominations from the filibuster as “almost a temper tantrum”; if that was the case in 2005, what does 2010 represent? A psychotic break from reality? Strauitjacket time?

It smells like desperation from a political party groaning under the heavy burden … of an eighteen-seat majority.

Biden proves that there is no way to scientifically explain the origin of the universe in a linear fashion.

Otherwise, strict logic would have precluded a worthless jackass like him from ever becoming one of the most powerful men in the country.

I know this will be a troll-free thread, but I would love to hear a defense. The only honest defense a statists could have is this:

Suck it up conservatives, this is politics. What we did in in 2005 was for our political benefit and we succeeded. You have the right to fight the 51 vote reconciliation with the same politics we employed in 2005. Now let’s see if you can play the game as good as we can.

Amazing how Democrats jump to the ultimate worse in their first threat of reconciliation, and all Bush wanted was judicial nominations.

Karma sucks. I read a piece that explained the historical role that Biden played in turning judicial appointments into political theatre.

inchdeep on February 24, 2010 at 12:07 PM

“I pray God when the Democrats take back control we don’t make the kind of naked power grab you are doing.”

I’ve always had trouble with polticians bringing God into partisan issues like this. God has much better things to do than listening to the bleatings of Joe Biden over the process used in the US Senate. A prayer for wisdom for the Senators is one thing but Biden might as well be asking that God smite Republicans and that is just wrong- even for faux Catholics like Joe.

highhopes on February 24, 2010 at 12:08 PM

Oh how quickly they forget.

And how quickly the citizens forget.

Republicans never had a filibuster proof majority.

Most of what Republicans did was with Democrat votes.

Biden’s quote reminds me of something Newt Gingrich said the day after the 1994 elections that made him Speaker. He said that if all that happened was that the Republicans replaced the Democrats’ corrupt machine with a corrupt Republican machine, they would lose their majority and deservedly so. He was right. So was Biden. The people eventually do hold parties accountable. The reckoning for the Democrats is coming. If they use reconciliation to pass a health care bill that the American people don’t want, it will be a tsunami.

Ah, but there is. It is the power of the Church to absolve sin. Of course, if you don’t want to go that way, there are two other ways:

a) Avoid the near occasion of sin.
b) Become a Muslim:

Throwing of Non-Believers in Hell-Fire for Believers As Divine Grace and Mercy

Abu Musa’ reported that Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: When it will be the Day of Resurrection Allah would deliver to every Muslim a Jew or a Christian and say: That is your rescue from Hell-Fire.Abu Burda reported on the authority of his father that Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) said: No Muslim would die but Allah would admit in his stead a Jew or a Christian in Hell-Fire. ‘Umar b. Abd al-’Aziz took an oath: By One besides Whom there is no god but He, thrice that his father had narrated that to him from Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him).Abu Burda reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: There would come people amongst the Muslims on the Day of Resurrection with as heavy sins as a mountain, and Allah would forgive them and He would place in their stead the Jews and the Christians. (As far as I think), Abu Raub said: I do not know as to who is in doubt. Abu Burda said: I narrated it to ‘Umar b. ‘Abd al-’Aziz, whereupon he said: Was it your father who narrated it to you from Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him)? I said: Yes.

What the above means is that, on the Day of Resurrection, there must be at least as many Jews and Christians as there are Muslims, for otherwise Allah will have to manufacture Jews and Christians to serve the needed purpose. In addition, Muslims may sin as much as they want, because no personal responsibility devolves upon them for their sins — they get to have a scapegoat.

It has become ridiculous to the point that I may stop reading the site. Numerous emails to Ed & AP have received no response.
