Happy summit eve: 73% say Congress should stop work or start over on ObamaCare

posted at 6:51 pm on February 24, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via Centristnet, behold the party public of no.

The survey indicates nearly half of all Democrats say Congress should pass legislation similar to the bills passed by both chambers, with nearly 4 in 10 Democrats saying Congress should start from scratch and just 1 in 10 saying lawmakers should stop all work on health care.

A majority of Republicans questioned, 54 percent, want Congress to start from scratch, with just under 4 in 10 saying lawmakers should halt work on health care reform and just 6 percent saying Congress should pass into law the current legislation.

Fifty-two percent of Independents want Congress to start work on a new bill, with 27 percent saying lawmakers should stop all work, and 18 percent saying that the current legislation should be passed into law.

In other words, even Democrats are evenly split about going back to the drawing board. Overall, 48 percent want to start over and another 25 percent just want to … stop. What’s most remarkable about those numbers is how unremarkable they are, really. Geraghty notes that net approval for O-Care is -10 to -15 points in nine different polls conducted recently, and a CNN poll taken in November showed fully 72 percent of the public at the time wanting to either stop work, start over, or make major changes to the bills then circulating in Congress. It’s not that opposition is huge, in other words, it’s that it’s been consistently huge for months on end. And yet here we are, 15 hours or so away from a marathon C-SPAN clusterfark dedicated to the idea that if only America can watch The One lecture Republicans about the individual mandate, it’s all going to start to turn around.

The mandate itself, incidentally, is now -8 in net approval, although most of the other core provisions poll well individually. (Just don’t mention the cost!) To help put you in the mood for tomorrow’s love-in, here’s Anthony Weiner showing off some of his new Hopenchange-brand bipartisan spirit.

Boy, they named that clown right.

Doug Schoen, Democrat strategist, just said on BOR that Obama has been ill-served by the radicals on the left like Pelosi. He admitted if Obama doesn’t change course, he’s going down in flames.

Maybe Obama will accuse doctors of unnecessarily taking people organs and limbs again tomorrow.

Just saw that! Obama’s mask is slipping away. Thanks to all those who told us Obama was a centrist with sound judgment to POTUS! /sarc

It’s a little embarrassing looking for some dark, hidden strategery at work here, when he just may be a one trick pony
prancing in circles. I’m starting to think The Won may need a bailout himself.

Forgive me if this has made it’s appearance earlier…but, but, but…another example of Sarah using words wonderfully and deliberately to get under their skin!

I sent the tips line a story from the Daily Herald about a National Study that shows that doctors are already cutting their hours and that is like cutting doctors.

Part of the article is an interview with a doctor who tells the story about spending all day clearing up with insurance agents which of 3 diabetic medications his patient’s insurance will cover.

Of the 12 or so comments- noone picked up on the fact that there won’t be enough doctors to see the 20-40 million more patients they will be adding.

They all seem to believe that the Dems Healthcare bill will magically force insurance companies to cover whatever drugs they prescribe for their patients. Or that the Best Practices Board will KNOW which medicine/treatment is best and everyone will have the same 100% response/recovery.

I think the Weiner is the one that is going to have to…what did he say, Oh ya DEAL WITH IT. What a moron.

It’s sad to see that 73% of Americans are racists.

NoDonkey on February 24, 2010 at 9:11 PM

The President has wrestled control of the health care debate away from Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid by finally introducing his own plan. Unfortunately, the White House’s proposal includes everything we found untenable about the old Senate bill – only this one is even more expensive! This is what you might call putting “perfume on a pig.”

How could the offspring of the Bride of Frankenstein and Frankenstein be anything a clusterfark?

But that’s a super-majority, so we’re on the right side of history (whatever the hell that means).

This is an area Rush is totally out of touch on.

The Republicans are right to go to this farce. Of course it was designed to be a trap. But it’s only a trap if you let yourself get caught.

The Republicans have a ton of ideas. If healthcare is going national, then knock down the state barriers to competition. Deal with the largest expense doctors face: Malpractice insurance. Deny the ability to deny coverage because of pre-existing conditions.

But allow companies to charge extra premiums for risky behavior. Why should fit, healthy people pay the same premium as overweight unfit people? Why should smokers pay the same as non smokers? Want to smoke? Fine. Pay your own way. The list goes on and on and . . . .

Anyone hear Kyl on Hannity’s radio show this afternoon? Hannity tried to lead him towards agreeing to walk out if there was any slant to the playing field tomorrow… Kyl kept evading him and rambling on about how Americans don’t want to hear complaints so it was preferable to just use whatever little time you got to try to make your case. You could hear the awkwardness in Hannity’s reaction, as if he was _really_ disappointed in the lameness of Kyl’s statement, but didn’t want to embarass him on the spot.

They (GOP so-called leadership) still don’t get it. “Americans” (in large numbers) WANT THEM TO WALK OUT. “Americans” DON’T WANT THIS POS BILL. What a bunch of pussies.

They. are. going. to. blow. it. They are going to go in there tomorrow and go along to get along.

bofh on February 24, 2010 at 9:37 PM

My health would greatly improve with Obama’s resignation.

Are you out of your mind? I pay TONS more than you do. DO you have any idea how much I pay in taxes on my cigarettes that go to the health care of others?

P.S. Smokers cost less with health care than non-smokers. Smokers die early and fast. It is the normal person, hanging on for dear life for a year in an ICU that runs the price up for everyone. Smokers pop off without much of a peep.

And I would like my FICA adjusted for my smoking, too, since I won’t even live to ever collect it (if you believe what the government says about smokers).

I am all for actuarial tables being used for health insurance rates (but that includes motorcycle riders and rock climbers and people who are sedentary and don’t move, …)

Naturally Maddow and Olbermann played this clip of Weiner repeatedly on their shows tonight.

I only noticed this because I ate out at Dairy Queen here in my small South Texas town and they had a big screen TV set to MSNBC.

Olbermann had one guest on for about 10 brief minutes, then the remaining time of the show was taken up with him whining and ranting into the camera for what seemed like 40 nonstop minutes.

This is what happens when a “political class” of self-styled “elites” is permitted to run the government because it’s more convenient for the rest of us. They grew into an inside the beltway liberal enclave, catered to by a slavish support staff and sycophantic media, all of whom encouraged the pols to ignore anything that detracted from the pols’ liberal agenda. This has matured into what we’re faced with now: a very small group (in comparison to the entire population) who feel that they are entitled to direct our lives as they see fit, that we should be grateful for their vast knowledge and insight, and that if only we’ll continue to follow their lead, we’ll grow to understand and appreciate the wonderful things they have planned for us.
We shall see.

Democrats keep invoking the asinine logic that the “nuclear option” of reconciliation has been used before so Republicans should quit whining. Show me ONE instance of either political party ignoring the clear majority will of the people and confiscating one sixth of the U.S. economy.
