Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on February 22, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Look, I get that Barack Obama has a big problem with China when it comes to the Dalai Lama. Last year, while I didn’t agree with Obama’s kowtowing to Beijing by snubbing the Tibetan activist and holy man, I also understood that with China holding so much of our debt and building a bigger blue-water navy, I also didn’t begrudge him the tough choice. Last week, Obama finally received the Dalai Lama, but in an attempt to show some distance to keep China from getting too irritable, the White House pushed him out a side door, along with the garbage, as the New York Post reported (via Red State and the Weekly Standard):

The Dalai Lama may have visited the White House, but he didn’t go out the front door.

The spiritual leader, who visited Washington this week, had a rather undignified departure from the White House, exiting from a side door — walking past big piles of bagged garbage — on Thursday after he had a sit-down with President Obama.

The Dalai Lama’s march out the Palm Room doors took him alongside heaps of trash whose removal had been delayed by snow.

Did it keep China from objecting? Hardly:

Officials in Beijing have summoned the U.S. ambassador to China to protest President Barack Obama’s meeting Thursday with the Dalai Lama, the exiled spiritual leader of Tibet.

Within hours of the White House talks between U.S. President Barack Obama and the Dalai Lama, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman issued a statement saying the meeting had “seriously harmed” U.S.-Sino relations.

“We believe the actions of the U.S. side have seriously interfered in Chinese internal affairs, seriously hurt the feelings of the Chinese people and seriously undermined China-U.S. relations,” he said.

Either don’t meet with the Dalai Lama, or meet with him properly. There are good arguments for either choice. But sending him out through the piles of garbage in an attempt to make his visit more “low key” is the worst of both worlds.

Note: I’m taking a few days off this week, so Allahpundit will be enlisting our Green Room contributors to keep things lively. However, I have a sneaking suspicion I may not be able to keep myself from posting an Obamateurism or two anyway…

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

And rather than tamping down the scandal situation, they’ve only fanned with flames with another week’s worth of questions and denials to come.

Sweet. How sweet it is.

Finally, Obama’s chikkinzzz are coming home to roost.

“We’re not crooks – we’re incompetent” is their battlecry. The water is circling the drain, Barry.

This.

When you have to plead incompetence to defend against charges of malfeasance, you know you might be in trouble.

ear relevant…

This was Dan Pfeiffer’s week in the barrel, like Susan Rice he was given the White House talking points and sent on a mission. He really needs to get copies of these tapes and watch them and see how foolish and unbelievable he looked and sounded. The White House is losing the little credibility it still had by sending these shills out every week trying to do damage control. Community organizers make poor leaders.

Pfeiffer’s statement that the law is irrelevant because the IRS conduct was “outrageous” and “inexcusable”, tells us all we need to know about this administration.

However, the follow-up should have been, “On what standard do you judge their conduct to be outrageous and inexcusable since the law is apparently not an appropriate standard?” (At least in Pfeiffer’s mind.)

What this comes down to is this: “if the Administrative deems something “outrageous” and “inexcusable,” then it is declared such. As we have seen in so many other areas, if the Administrative deems something to not be “outrageous” and “inexcusable,” then it is declared such.

In their mind, the law is – in fact – irrelevant. That’s what makes this situation so dangerous.

It’s not socialism. It’s worse.

Irrelevant = “What Difference Does It Make?”

A fitting capstone to Ed’s story about loss-prevention (aka employee theft) and management’s “permission structure” in this post.

(Not to mention the jaw-dropping statements of Eleanor Clift in this one.)

Hey give Barky a break. He had to get his sorry ass out to Vegas.

Of course they sent Pfeiffer out to do the Sunday shows. He was the most senior expendable staff member they had . . .

Does anybody else remember the campaign in 2008 when Obama defended his lack of administrative experience by saying he was just so smart and tuned in that his instincts were better than experience. Someone needs to dredge up these sound bites and play then with the current line about the government being too large to control and that the White House only knows what it reads in the newspaper.

If where the president was during the Benghazi crisis is “irrelevant”, then he wasn’t where one would expect the Commander-in-Chief to be. So, where was he? Was he watching a movie in the residence? Was he bowling? Or was he having a bi-curious outing with his good buddy Reggie Love? If Obama was AWOL, as I suspect he was, it is he who is irrelevant. This entire stinkin’ criminal Obama Regime must go and now!

If this continues all week, it will be ‘O’ himself doing the rounds on the Sunday talk shows – except for Fox, of course. (‘O’ can do everything better than everyone else as he has been known to say.)

He then gets the extra benefit that no one will challenge him like they have begun to do with his minions.
