ACORN dissolving national structure due to “damage to the brand”
posted at 5:03 pm on February 22, 2010 by Allahpundit
When they’re making pimp jokes about you on South Park, I guess it’s time to regroup. Let the regrouping begin!
“ACORN has dissolved as a national structure of state organizations,” said a senior official close to the group, who declined to be identified by name because of the fierce conservative attacks on the group that began when a conservative filmmaker caught some staffers of its tax advisory arms on tape appearing to offer advice on incorporating a prostitution business…
“Consistent with what the internal recommendations have been, each of the states are developing plans for reconstitution independence and self-sufficiency,” said the official, citing ACORN’s “diminished resources, damage to the brand, unprecedented attacks.”…
“It’s not like this is some kind of hostile thing,” said the New York source. “This is what Fox has produced. National Acorn and Bertha Lewis are continuing doing their thing, but the New York flagship has been foreed into this new organization.”
“As far as the work in the communities and policy campaigns, no one will notice the difference,” the source said. “It’s people who still believe in their basic mission of fighting for poor people.”
Sounds like it’s mainly a PR move to let the local chapters get out from under the weight of the scandal — the name changes have already begun — and, as DrewM says, to give them greater deniability the next time some lurid scandal breaks at a local chapter. To listen to wingnut propaganda, you’d think that bad behavior in Brooklyn and Philly and Baltimore and D.C. and San Diego and San Bernardino and god knows where else represented some kind of systemic problem.
You know who’s going to miss them the most? A special guy, that’s who.

When did ACORN become a “Brand”?
upinak on February 22, 2010 at 5:07 PM
“Dissolving” is the wrong word. Re-Naming is more appropriate.
Still the same people, same product, same operation, same location, same phone number (?), different letter head.

Oh well, David Horowitz will have to make a couple of minor changes to his “Discover The Networks” chart but other than that it’s business as usual.

I was sloppy in an earlier post. A guy on Fox Business said that James looked like he had his Andover jacket under the fur coat. This was a joke about his general “preppy” look. Nobody suggested that he looked like Andover or Exeter prep school students.
I regret any lack of humor my sloppiness may have caused. Although I would maintain that a Grotonian might have been more convincing in his acting and projection of villany.
Anyway, this guy has guts!

The amount of taxpayer money going to left-wing political activists is not changing. All that’s changing is the names and org charts.

That and to blur the money trail a bit more.

The good news — ACORN is politically toxic, so they had to change the name. The bad news — the new name is “US Bureau of the Census”.

Don’t know what they’re calling it around the country but our new community group in Houston is OFA (Organizing for America)with a tag line “Sponsored by Hope”. Same bunch, same motive from what I can tell.
They are putting in community gardens, canvassing neighborhoods for support for health care reform, voter initiatives, etc. Since I happen to live in a minority district I see them everywhere. Wouldn’t be surprised if they have the same office as ACORN used to have just across the freeway from the distinguished Al Green, D-TX09.

It’s a name change, like going from “Black Hand” to “Mafia” to “La Cosa Nostra.” Nothing more.
They are still ready to serve as loyal thugs of the Traitor-in-Chief, still as dangerous as a nest of angry rattlesnakes.
And, no doubt, they will continue to do their foul, underhanded work with our money, courtesy of Osama Obama and the fools in Congress.
The organization will truly be “dissolved” when its leadership is facing trials under the RICO statutes, no sooner.

They’re dissolving their national structure?
You mean the House Democratic Caucus is resigning en masse?
That is, after all, pretty much ACORN’s national structure.

They’re simply breaking into smaller state pieces and renaming themselves . . . everything is the same except now it will be harder to keep track of them.

Well, I can’t say I’m not saddened by this, but I half expected it, as he said he’d be his own person, when voting, and he’s not what I’d call a committed conservative. He is afterall, stumping for McCain. That’s telling in, and of itself. We supported him, mostly because of his stance against Obamacare.
However, he having voted on a bill that was constructed in privacy, and one that he’s not read, is irresponsible. I half believe the people of Mass voted for him over Coakly, because of the massive spending, and this kind of crap being done, and he’s voting for it. I have no doubts that he’ll be hearing about this from his constituents.
His first vote, is not a good one, and he’ll learn quickly. If he wants to survive past 2012, he’d better start doing what the voters want, and not what he thinks is best. Especially when he’s not fully aware of what he’s voting for.

Also reminiscent of when the Communists did their version of a bankruptcy and reorganization…they’re still there…they will always be there as there’s no one left to fight against them anymore. The only thing holding them back is their political infighting and innate incompetence.
We have to think like they do and imagine what their ultimate goals are and their timeline (and the truly committed can be an extremely patient lot…”protracted conflict”).

I’ve been tracking ACORN perfidy since the mid-90s. They’re a criminal conspiracy as far as I’m concerned. But we do need to be careful with our facts — I’ve seen this $4b number before and I think it’s based on a misconception around the CDBG line item. Not that I think ACORN shouldn’t be debarred from all federal grants or contracts…
