Quotes of the day

posted at 10:30 pm on February 19, 2010 by Allahpundit

“At a campaign event on Friday for Reid in Nevada, Obama blasted Republicans for opposing his healthcare overhaul. ‘The Republicans say that they’ve got a better way of doing it. So, I want them to put it on the table,’ he said.

“‘We’re going to move forward the Democratic proposal — we hope the Republicans have one too,’ Obama said. ‘And we’ll sit down and let’s hammer it out. We’ll go section by section. America can’t solve our economic problems unless we tackle some of these structural problems.’”

***
“And then when unemployment numbers started proving to be much, much tougher and it started becoming more clear that the stimulus package hadn’t worked properly, they just kept plowing ahead on health care. And this isn’t a communications problem. This is a reality problem. And I think they just made some grave miscalculations and as it became more clear that they had screwed up, they just kept doubling down their bet.

“And so I think, no, this is one of the biggest miscalculations that we’ve seen in modern political history.”

This guy ain’t got jack in the way of a HC plan. The newest version that will be unveiled at the ‘bipartisian pow wow is supposed to come from O Blah Blah’s office. It is just pieced together from the house/senate versions. HE is the one with no bill of his own to present!!!!

Plagiarism is so easy when you’ve got “Lunchpail” “Sheriff” “In Country” “Delaware’s Unmourned Village Idiot” Joe Biden as your “go to” second in command. You ‘d think he’s done it before, even without having his undergraduate and graduate transcripts and writings to confirm it.

Seven Percent Solution on February 20, 2010 at 4:24 AM

We may not have any beach to reach before drowning.

Kini on February 20, 2010 at 4:36 AM

If the waste strikes the rotating blades the right and left coasts are going to be real iffy no-go-zones. Fly-over country is going to become the nations bunker. Bet on it; plan accordingly.

Getting to Kini’s beaches may mean exiting through Canada and looping westward. Learn to say ‘eh’ and eat your fries with gravy. ;-)

Yoop on February 20, 2010 at 6:31 AM

We’ll go section by section.

Putting that POS bill into the shredder, you mean? Because that’s the only point in going through it section by section Barry, since every section sucks.

Or, as an alternative, for the politicians, think wood-chipper and the movie “Fargo”. ;-)

Cook totally mischaracterizes Iraq. It’s sort of breath-taking how off he is.

True, but Cook is a Dem, so the fact that he’s predicting horrible things for the Dems in November carries more weight imho. Lot of little nuggets in the interview like this one at the end (my emphasis):

NJ: Are there areas where you might see a Republican nominee who is too far to the right?

Cook: Where you have Republican incumbents who may have voted for TARP, you’re going to have some potential probleme spots. Part of it is, we’re reaching here a little bit. Because, yes, the Republican Party, they’ve got some huge brand problems, where their brand got badly damaged during the eight years of President Bush and the six years the Republicans had the majority in Congress…. But if I had a choice of the Republican Party’s problems right now or the Democratic Party’s problems, I think you could triple the Republican Party’s problems and I’d still rather have their problems than the problems facing Democrats.

The interviewer tried to get him to ID some GOP candidates too far to the right and he was basically saying the Republican problems are going to be with candidates too far to the left! LOL.

The commenters after the article are in total denial – Cook is not a Repub and did predict 2006 and 2008 handily.

Missy on February 20, 2010 at 7:14 AM

Cook: I’ve spent the last couple of days talking to some of the brightest Democrats in the party that are not in the White House. And it’s very hard to come up with a scenario where Democrats don’t lose the House. It’s very hard. Are the seats there right this second? No. But we’re on a trajectory on the House turning over….—Cook

Now that is a quote to end the week.

Mid to late 50′s. I said I’m old.

AA emplacements and surface-to-air Nike pods, along that walkway that goes down around the western locks. Cold war thingy. Nearly all the nation’s iron ore locked down through there to the furnaces at the lower lakes.

When they used to do the low-level radar evasion training out of K.I. Sawyer they used my barn as a turning point after coming through the gap in the hills. So low I could wave at the pilots. NOISY, even at near idle throttle. None of that around here in da UP anymore. Now just the ANG out of Duluth doing intercept training.

Once healthcare goes down in flames, how about some tee-shirts with HCR (with a strikethrough) and below it “Mission Accomplished”? That would completely frost the DNC Marxists, who know that the Progressive Era is coming to an end.

Couldn’t believe it watching the olympics a couple of days ago and Mary Carillo and Bob Costas are talking about a town in Canada that has become a tourist mecca because of polar bears summering there. Bob just HAD to say that “You know, Mary, polar bears are an endangered species.” And Mary just nods in agreement.
NBC keeps spewing these lies in spite of all the evidence to the contrary. Like Breitbart says, the lamestreams are the firewall blocking truth coming to the American people.

See this article. And this one.
Who do you suppose he will blame for his failed presidency? Hint: A four letter name he uses constantly.

The plans are out there. Have you tried looking in the Map Room? That’s where some things disappeared during the Clinton years.

OK Obama, you want good faith . . . then drop that communist healthcare manifesto you’ve been touting and start from scratch. No Public Option, no mandatory payment requirement, no government oversight of individual medical needs. Simply put, no government control of our health care system. Agree to those criteria and then there could be some productive “bipartisan” healthcare discussions. Running out the same old garbage for discussion is a non starter. Otherwise, go ahead and use your reconciliation trickery but be prepared to experience the wrath of the majority of Americans.

OT: I saw yesterday morning on Fox News that Obama is going to do a land grab of several western states (that have oil and gas)and bypassing Congress to do it. I never heard any more about it other than that. Anyone else see that? Sounds like a way to be sure there is no drilling.
