CPAC: Issac Hayes, GOP candidate in IL-02

posted at 11:25 am on February 19, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Earlier this morning, I heard for the first time that the GOP has a solid contender for IL-02, the seat currently held by Jesse Jackson, Jr. Isaac Hayes talked with me this morning about his bid against a Democratic Machine stalwart, why his district has started putting out Amber Alerts for their Representative, and how he would respond to the Barack Obama/Nancy Pelosi agenda. This soft-spoken candidate has some real steel in him:

Too bad it’s not the ‘real’ Issac Hayes. He could have sung the Kathy Lee song on the campaign trail and locked up the women’s vote in about four minutes.

joejm65 on February 19, 2010 at 11:29 AM

Isaac Hayes & soft spoken in the same paragraph?

Oh wait, different Isaac Hayes. Best of luck to him. Can’t wait to hear the Democrats attacks on him.

rbj on February 19, 2010 at 11:31 AM

Isaac Hayes? Did he talk about recording “Hot Buttered Soul,” and his time playing “Chef” on South Park?

Shut yo mouth!

CurtZHP on February 19, 2010 at 11:31 AM

joejm65 on February 19, 2010 at 11:29 AM

Nah, we all know the ‘real’ Issac Hayes is a scientologist. Sigh. We miss you, ‘Chef’.

The South Park Issac Hayes is dead, I think.

joejm65 on February 19, 2010 at 11:33 AM

Or it could be better, he could be named John Bolton.

Go ‘stache.

He could win on name recognition alone :) Seriously though, I think he stands a good chance, and I hope he will be welcomed into the Congressional Black Caucus.

Man, I wish I could watch this here at work.

HotAir needs to find an alternative video hosting site. I can see just about any other video at work except those here at HotAir and YouTube.

So really any other video service would probably work.

Abby Adams on February 19, 2010 at 11:33 AM

In that district, I’m amazed the index isn’t even greater. I would have guessed about D+50 or even 60. It’s the kind of district — all too common in the Chicago area — where the only chance for competition is in the primaries.

Jesse Jackson Jr. prior to the IL senate controversy used to be on the radio frequently (every other week), including WLS 890 AM which is a conservative talk channel. He might as well be on a milk cartoon since then.

Good luck to Isaac Hayes. It will be tough, he is in a district that is solid Democrat for years. Of course if they look around and see how that has served them the last 50 years, maybe they will want change too.

Knucklehead on February 19, 2010 at 12:04 PM

My family has three business locations in the district. Unfortuantely businesses cannot vote, but we sure can pay property taxes. No taxation without representation!

IL-02 is one of those districts where it would be greate if (D), (R), etc. did not appear on the ballot. I actually wishes that was the case across the whole state.

How long has it been since such an articulate conservative candidate, who has a track record of being active in helping the community, has run in this district?

Looks like financial support is what Issac needs most.
