Shhh: AP misquotes Biden’s latest dopey gaffe
posted at 6:49 pm on February 17, 2010 by Allahpundit
To cleanse the palate, a small but nifty little catch by Team Breitbart. Compare the vid to the AP rendering:
“I absolutely refuse to accept the notion that the United States of America is not going to lead the world economically throughout the 21st Century,” Biden said during remarks to supporters on the Delta campus.
He doesn’t say “absolutely” here either, which makes me think this is less a case of the AP deliberately changing his words to obscure a silly mistake than being lazy and quoting from a transcript of prepared remarks that was handed out beforehand. But you make the call! Intentional misquote to protect Slow Joe, or just good ol’ fashioned sloppiness?

Blowback

Meh. I don’t see a big deal, either way. Crazy Joe is lying, anyway. He’s working with an administration dedicated to bringing America to our knees.

Sloppiness. They would have just axed the quote if they wanted to protect him.

Stand up Joe let ‘em see ya. Oh God (Will Salem let me type that?), what am I talking about?
The Associated Press is just lazy. I honestly don’t think this was deliberate. Cognitive dissonance perhaps, but not deliberate.

rob verdi on February 17, 2010 at 6:57 PM
But the press does intentionally clean up The Precedent’s piss-poor English when he’s off TOTUS and keeps saying things such as “aaay illegal” or “aaay enormous”. You never see any of that in the transcripts, though you can find the Indonesian imbecile doing it just about every time he’s speaking extemporaneously.
neurosculptor on February 17, 2010 at 6:59 PM
Deliberate, to further the “Palin is an idiot, unprepared to gevern!!” meme.
We can’t have the plebes discover that our Government is being run by people who don’t know what century it is.

So ask them about their choice! All my liberal friends who were pretty much non-stop Obama lovers this time last year have pretty much gone to ground. At most they’ll give a half-hearted defense that somehow always gets around to blaming Bush for stuff that happened long after he was back in Texas.

Can we have a Bidenism of the Hour?
Rocks on February 17, 2010 at 7:54 PM
Don’t be ridic. That was not done on purpose. I’d bet good money AP didn’t hear the speech and merely copied and pasted the transcript of the speech into a story, rather than watching it live.
When the choices are between big web of conspiracy or laziness of a single reporter, go with the latter every time.

ontherocks on February 17, 2010 at 8:01 PM
Wait . . . does it say on the Delta campus?
Given the other glaring error, does that mean there was at least a possibility Joe thought he was speaking to Delta House?
Biden: “What? Over? Did you say over? NOTHING is over until we decide it is!
“I refuse to accept the notion that the United States of America is not going to lead the world economically throughout the 20th Century!”
AP Reporter: (aside) “20th Century??”
MSNBC Reporter: “Forget it … he’s rolling!”
(Both reporters enthusiastically jot down and underline 21st Century in their notebooks.)

Let’s face it, it’s Biden and he needs all the help he can get. Cheney wiped the floor with him Sunday. The AP has to save him. You certainly don’t think Biden can save himself, do ya?
ranzofola on February 17, 2010 at 9:49 PM
Biden’s melon must be twisted with all those financial figures “ol’ sheriff Joe” has saved us from the stimulus waste by our government…..or he’s just really stupid.
dthorny on February 17, 2010 at 9:52 PM
I would say a little of both. Would the AP let Bush get away with a gaffe like this? NO, because they would be listening for any mistake Bush made in an effort to amplify their narrative that Bush is a idiot fool that can’t speak. I don’t think they ignored Biden’s gaffe intentionally but they probably didn’t stick around to hear a speech that they were given a copy of before hand. They do not look for mistakes from Dems, they don’t care if Biden screws up and they have no interest in highlighting his gaffes like they do when it’s a high profile republican. Intentional or not, it is just more evidence of leftist bias from the AP.

I’d love to see a conservative pol prepare a vid, in advance, to punk the media and then deliberately mis-state something as Biden seems to do like clockwork…then, when they try to turn it into something it isn’t, whip out the prepared vid(with proof it was produced prior) and say something like, “Really? This is your news story?” Why wasn’t Biden? Why wasn’t Obama?
Why? Why? Why?
