Olby to tea partiers: C’mon, you know you’re racists

posted at 6:55 pm on February 16, 2010 by Allahpundit

A change of pace for the modern-day Murrow. Instead of angrily accusing his opponents of racism, here he accuses them of racism with exquisite, almost poignant condescension. A money quote from the Newsbusters transcript:

I know if I could only listen to Lincoln on this of all days about the better angels of our nature, I’d know that what we’re seeing at the Tea Parties is, at its base, people who are afraid – terribly, painfully, cripplingly, blindingly afraid…

You’re scared and you’re in a world that has changed in a million ways, and the most obvious one of them is something unforeseeable not a decade ago – a black President. And yet, you are also in an world, inherited, installed by generations that knew only fear and brutality and prejudice and difference and suspicion. The generations have gone, but the suspicion lingers on.

You can read the whole thing at the link but I recommend sitting through at least the second half of the clip lest you miss the heartrending pathos of it all. DrewM did a nice job of responding to him at Ace’s site, but I’d add two points. One: I’m actually surprised that Olby keeps hammering this racial demagoguery, not because it’s beneath him — to the contrary — but because it’s turned him into a joke and you’d think his giant ego would eventually blanch at that fact. He may not be bothered by lefty bloggers like Bob Somerby rolling their eyes at his simple-minded race-baiting, but when Jon Stewart’s doing seven-minute goofs on him for framing Scott Brown as some sort of woman-hating brownshirt, one might expect a moment of reflection. Then again, this is a guy who thinks pick-up trucks are code for white supremacism and who once compared Fox News to the KKK (there’s a Klan reference here too, natch), so it may be less a case of him thinking this is some smart, shrewd debating strategy than simply being unable to resist a compulsion. Since he was kind enough to psychoanalyze tea partiers, feel free to respond in kind.

Second point: No less a liberal light than James Carville interviewed tea partiers to find out what’s driving them and ended up concluding that racism isn’t a factor. Believe it or not, they’re really, truly motivated by antipathy to Obama’s agenda. In which case, what’s the ultimate point here? That rallying in support of small government is itself ipso facto racist?

Liberals think that America, outside of their enlightened blue enclaves, are stuck in some old Faulkner novel. It’s amazing just how ignorant of this country these idiots are.

Do these girls look blindingly afraid to you?

Sure, as long as you don’t infer (Like Obama did), that she was afraid of black men on the street like all typical white women.

When is the insanity that is Olby going to end? Comcast, I’m begging you…

mathscience41 on February 16, 2010 at 8:01 PM

I love how Olby says tea parties look exactly like everyone else at the protests. I don’t know too many people of any color who look alike . So even in the most down to earth understanding of that stupid line is lame . If you want to use it to mean everyone is white, which is not true, is also very lame . I dunno about you but I am not like very many people and just because I am white does it guarantee anything in regards to similarity.

This guy thinks so simplistically. His rhetoric is evil ….yes evil . So is the Rhetoric of the CRRS and the FINS of the world to paint these people that way.

I finally had the nerve to listen to the clip included above.

I’ve read parts of Mein Kampf, and found it all to be seriously disjointed. That’s about how I found the ramblings of Olbie in this thread’s clip–congruence in both cases is tenuous at best.

Is Olbie a Hitler? Same say ‘yes’. I say they’re both simply jag-offs. I wouldn’t gave Olbie any more credence than I would Hitler.

I think the 95% you’re talking about voted primarily on party, as they did in ‘04, ‘00, ‘96, ‘92, etc., and the race was just a fantastic bonus.

notropis on February 16, 2010 at 7:48 PM

I’m sure you’re right(rolls eyes).

Overheard at my polling precinct:

Poll worker: “Let me explain the ballot to you.”

Black woman: “Nah, just tells me how to vote for Obama.”

True story.

You see, the ballot had a number of races and amendments up for vote. This black woman couldn’t care less. She was there for one reason, and one reason only.

David2.0 on February 16, 2010 at 8:45 PM

Eye-rolls and anecdotes. I’m convinced.

And you saw, or heard of, a real-live black woman at your polling place. You’re authentic, too.

Remind me again what percentage of blacks voted Republican in any presidential race going back to 1980?

And do you think this same woman would have been saying “just show me how to vote for Rice” if Condi had been the Republican nominee?

“Purely,” as in “purely on his complexion” is an absolute. It means nothing else had anything to do with it. It implies that the person would have done the same, regardless of the party of the candidate of the right “complexion.”

I’ve seen no evidence for it in other races (governor, senator, representative) where a black Republican has run, so I’ll have to take actual statistics over either your eye-roll or the overheard black woman at your precinct.

notropis on February 16, 2010 at 9:28 PM

Try To remember who Keith Olbermann works for, he really doesn’t have a choice, he knows who is listening to him. And he isn’t speaking for a Caucasian audience and he knows it. Olbermann knows who specifically is listening to him, remember Imus got taken down by Media Matters For America- monitoring his broadcast.

Remember back in April of 2007 when Imus was fired?

MSNBC hired two black women Christina Brown, and Tamron Hall, Tamron Hall is on with David Shuster…she is out of Chicago, probably got the job because of Jesse Jackson..Remember Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton were protesting insisted Imus be fired…but they didn’t stop there, they got people placed at MSNBC. Olbermann knows exactly who is listening to him and what they expect to hear so does Chris Matthews. White People Are Racist Because They Are White. So If You Are White And Protest A Black President’s Political Agenda. You Are Racist Because White People Are Racist. It must Sux to work at MSNBC.

Oh and then NBC hired a Diversity Leader.

http://michellemalkin.com/2007/05/11/imus-fallout-nbc-hires-a-diversity-leader/

They turned MSNBC into the CW of Cable News Channels, it explains why they don’t do anything different to increase their ratings. They can’t.

Dr Evil on February 16, 2010 at 9:30 PM

Olbermann is an evil man. He know what he is promoting is a farce, yet he does it anyways.

We love Clarence Thomas and Condi Rice.

Tell Obama to stop lying at EVERY TURN, (about every topic!) stop cancelling programs dear to me like Space and Missile Defense, F-22 etc… stop appointing RACIST Supreme Court Justices like Sotomayor, stop hugely insulting our true allies after promising otherwise, and we’ll talk about not being anti Obama.

scotash on February 16, 2010 at 9:32 PM

I think Olbermann has a contract if he doesn’t full fill his contract what happens to him employment wise? He has a producer, staff who puts this crap into his teleprompter. I doubt he believes half of this nonsense. I expect to see him hold up a “Help Me” sign one of these evenings.

Dr Evil on February 16, 2010 at 9:37 PM

So Keithy boy and pasty faced Chris both complain that Tea Party protestor are white. Not that it’s true, but SO WHAT! Tell me, what difference does it make? Can either of you clowns provide evidence that people of color have been excluded? Do either of you complain about the CBC? What was your commentary when the CBC declined membership to the TN representative who happened to be white. Never mind that he represented a predominately black disctrict.

MSNBC needs to just die off. It’s a useless organization filled with talentless hacks.

jack herman on February 16, 2010 at 10:18 PM

It is hard to figure what is going on in the far-left wing clubhouse that is the Olbermann show now. You have to think he looks at his email and doesn’t even get complaints because even-minded people left long ago. This is like a cult figure feeding into the fantasies of the gonzo left. I say fantasies because these are the base thoughts that make them think their agenda is going through someday. Look at the language Olbermann and many race-baiters use. We are stuck in the 1950′s south and someday when we finally persevere and explain it is all racism we will win landslide elections. The Olby fantasy (and others) is all to explain their unpopularity in ways that don’t force them to examine their ideas but instead inspire them to fight harder. Its more like a cult and examining what the cult leaders say is good for humor but don’t take it too seriously.

Metro on February 17, 2010 at 1:25 AM

That rallying in support of small government is itself ipso facto racist?

This point could be effectively made if one presupposes that the government is the only entity willing and able to eliminate racism through interventions in the markets and economy and education to ensure equality. Since that requires an expansion of government, and that must be paid for by the taxpayers, then arguing for fewer services and lower taxes argues against the expanding government and the alleviation of racism through direct action.
Not sayin’ I believe it, but, well, there it is. And Olby sucks.

How does Olby say that its “something unforeseeable not a decade ago – a black President” when Colin Powell was twenty points ahead in the Presidential preference polls 15 years ago but refused to run? We would have had a black President in 1996 if Powell had decided to run at the time.

Liam on February 16, 2010 at 10:43 PM

He claims he’s 51 years old. So, 30 minutes a day translates to 1/48th of a year. Therefore, by simple multiplication, we have that Olby has forgotten his whiteness for 51/48th of a year, which is 20/19th (1 1/19th) of a year. So, for more than a year, what did he think he was?

Olbermann trashes his father. That tells you a lot. Virtual patricide. And he insults me who grew up being taught by my parents NOT to discriminate on the basis of race.

Should I tell my son (of mixed “ethnicity”) that his father is a racist? I guess Olbermann would have me do that. And that don`t make no sense.

Olbermann is a living crapfest and I want his festival shut down.

I realize you’re not supposed to make fun of the mentally handicapped or insane, but this creep is stupid and incredibly offensive. I have a suspicion the only reason MSNBC keeps him on the air is because they get a perverse pleasure out of torquing off conservatives. No one could seriously watch his show hoping for insightful analysis and commentary.

I suggest radio hosts and blogs like Hot Air, NewsBusters, etc immediately stop monitoring his show, posting articles about him, or referring to him in any way. It’s giving him publicity he doesn’t deserve.
