Quotes of the day
posted at 10:30 pm on February 15, 2010 by Allahpundit
“Most [scientists] don’t see a contradiction between a warming world and lots of snow. That includes Kevin Trenberth, a prominent climate scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado.
“‘The fact that the oceans are warmer now than they were, say, 30 years ago means there’s about on average 4 percent more water vapor lurking around over the oceans than there was, say, in the 1970s,’ he says…
“‘So one of the consequences of a warming ocean near a coastline like the East Coast and Washington, D.C., for instance, is that you can get dumped on with more snow partly as a consequence of global warming,’ he says…
“‘Because if it’s cold enough to snow, you will get snow,’ Masters says. ‘We still have winter even if temperatures have warmed on average, oh, about 1 degree Fahrenheit over the past 100 years.’”
***
RUSH:… So the temperatures are not warmer, causing all of this snow, ladies and gentlemen. And it’s hilarious for me to watch all this. Global warming, they say, causes more snow, right? Well, then global cooling would cause less snow? I mean, different ways of saying the same thing, right? As one who is possessed with a tremendous amount of logic and critical thinking capability that would have to be true. But when there is less snow, the alarmists say that’s because of global warming. When there is more snow, they say it’s because of global warming. Now, you cannot have it both ways, otherwise you’re contradicting yourself and proving that all you are is on a political mission. Now, we’ve heard from all the experts, all the members of Congress, all the experts in the media telling us that these record snowfalls are just proof of global warming. Well, let’s go back to the audio sound bites. We have about seven of them here. March 21st, 2002, from the Senate floor. Not enough snow was falling back then and Robert Byrd said this proved global warming.
BYRD 2002: We need a climate change strategy badly. Look at the kind of winter we’ve had here in Washington. One snow, three inches? What can we expect for the spring and summer seasons? What’s going to happen to our crops, our livestock, our economy? This is serious. I’ve lived a long time, 84 years. Something’s going wrong out there. I don’t need a scientist to tell me that. We had better do something about it.
RUSH: You gotta listen to this, folks. These are Democrats complaining global warming proved by no snow. No snow in Washington, 2002, proves global warming. Yesterday and the day before, all of this snow in Washington proves global warming. They both can’t be right. Here’s Barbara Boxer, October 29th, 2007, on the Senate floor.

You know the silly part is that they are right as far as evaporation and snowfall are concerned. The problem of course is that these are natural cycles and have nothing to do with their idiotic theory.
They have lied and fudged the evidence so often their credibility is totally shot.

BIG DEPOSIT: This could end up as one of the largest suburban leases of the year, but it can’t be good. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. has leased 150,000 square feet, the entire building, at the Woodfield Corporate Center, 200 N. Martingale in Schaumburg. The federal guarantor of bank accounts needs what it calls a “temporary Midwest satellite office” as it processes receiverships and asset sales involving Midwestern banks. The FDIC said it will move in beginning in March and that the office will have up to 500 workers.

Sharke on February 15, 2010 at 11:35 PM
Man-Made Global Grifting is the real term for this.
The climate will always change, thankfully. What the alarmists do is make an catastrophe scenario, when there’s no evidence to prove sea levels rising, polar caps melting, polar bears dying, and dogs and cats living together.
A warming period has actually proven to be a benefit and not a detriment. Where’s the evidence in past Earth history, i.g. Medieval Warming Period, of global disasters during warming periods. Yet mini-Ice Ages had shorter growing seasons. People starved.
What’s a looming disaster is allowing government agencies to regulate commerce, strangle small business with taxes, destroy our standard of living as we know it.
That’s Anthropological Global Grifting

While it is true that warming temperatures could cause more snow to fall in certain places, we would see an overall change in the snow line moving North. So while North Dakota might get more snow, Kansas might get more precipitation but as rain and maybe no snow at all.
What we are seeing over the past several years is a general Southward movement of the continental snow line. Warming temperatures will not do that.
There’s more here.

The word is getting out.
Today, during the 3 to 6pm radio show on WLW, one of the local weather-guys talked about the current situ here in Cincy and he mentioned the Sun’s minimal ‘state’ and compared it to The Little Ice Age.
And he said the same thing I’ve said: if the Sun’s activity stays where it currently is, then ‘get use to this [kind of] weather, and he mentioned the record cool summer of ’09.
The floodgates are opening now that the warmers have been put on their heels.
An additional link is here for the related, two-hour vid presentation on the ‘unusual nature of the current solar minimum’. It’s kinda ‘science-geeky’ but it’s worth a look-see.

Global Warming has become the mythological god of a cult, and this “god” causes the earth to warm and the earth to cool and it causes heavy snow and tornadoes and hurricanes and blizzards and tsunamis and thunderbolts just like Zeus or Neptune were once thought to do.
It must be very difficult for a fanatic to give up such a powerful “god”.

txag92 on February 15, 2010 at 10:44 PM
no nothing about global warming but it would have made a nice way to hide the record spending by Obama which after all was the main reason for it.
Obama wanted to get cap and trade and the increased rev form it so he could use the money to fund his socialism and balance the budget when cap and trade went down he started pushing Obamacare so that he could kill off all the old people make social security and medicare solvent and still spend money on his pet projects. If he doesn’t get Obamacare the dems have no new money and will have $trillion defiects for generations.
If Obamacare goes down look for the dems to turn to the military and gut that department. this was the main reason Obama waffled on sending troops to Afgan. It was only when Obamacare looked likely to pass did he send the troops.
Now he is trapped. No new rev form the bottom of the deck and the spending is already out the door. he will need a new rev stream and the bank tax idea looks like it will fail too. he will be forced to hike taxes on the middle class and if he does he is done.

@PATR2012 about 2000+ in attendance. Great responses from crowd. Palin hit the issues – small gov’t, less spending, energy, power of America
Great night w/ Sarah Palin @DaytonaChamber She wants to come back w/ fam to see the 500 again nxt year. Great speech and Q/A. Inspiring!
wait I thought Palin didn’t talk about issues?
and then she posts this:
People are asking me to comment on yesterday’s Fox show that felt like another kick in the gut. Bristol was one who asked what I thought of the show that mocked her baby brother, Trig (and/or others with special needs), in an episode yesterday. Instead of answering, I asked her what she thought. Here is her conscientious reply, which is a much more restrained and gracious statement than I want to make about an issue that begs the question, “when is enough, enough?”:
“When you’re the son or daughter of a public figure, you have to develop thick skin. My siblings and I all have that, but insults directed at our youngest brother hurt too much for us to remain silent. People with special needs face challenges that many of us will never confront, and yet they are some of the kindest and most loving people you’ll ever meet. Their lives are difficult enough as it is, so why would anyone want to make their lives more difficult by mocking them? As a culture, shouldn’t we be more compassionate to innocent people – especially those who are less fortunate? Shouldn’t we be willing to say that some things just are not funny? Are there any limits to what some people will do or say in regards to my little brother or others in the special needs community? If the writers of a particularly pathetic cartoon show thought they were being clever in mocking my brother and my family yesterday, they failed. All they proved is that they’re heartless jerks. – Bristol Palin”
