Breaking: Bill Clinton rushed to hospital
posted at 5:02 pm on February 11, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
ABC News reports that former President Bill Clinton has been rushed to a hospital this afternoon:
Former President Bill Clinton was rushed to a Manhattan hospital late this afternoon, sources tell ABC News.
Clinton, 63, was transported to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan for a condition related to his heart.
ABC News’ chief political correspondent George Stephanopoulos reported that sources said he was taken to the hospital “likely for a stent procedure.”
ABC says that Hillary did not appear to be in a rush to leave the office, which may mean that the issue may be more routine. Anything with the heart would be an area of concern for Bill Clinton, as he just had a quadruple bypass less than five years ago.
I’ll update the post as the story develops. Meanwhile, the family will of course be in our prayers.
Update: An update to ABC’s initial dispatch seems more reassuring:
An official told ABC News that Clinton’s ailment seems more like “discomfort…something wasn’t right” rather than a health “crisis.”
A friend of the former president’s said that he had been suffering from a cold and had been warn [sic] out from his recent trip to Haiti.
It’s also possible that he picked up something in Haiti that’s unrelated to his heart in the difficult environment in Haiti as well.
Update II: Good news from ABC in a further update at the same link:
“Today President Bill Clinton was admitted to the Columbia Campus of New York Presbyterian Hospital after feeling discomfort in his chest,” said Band. “Following a visit to his cardiologist, he underwent a procedure to place two stents in one of his coronary arteries.”
A stent is a wire mesh tube used to prop open an artery.
“President Clinton is in good spirits and will continue to focus on the work of his Foundation and Haiti’s relief and long-term recovery efforts.”
The First Mate had a stent installed in one of her coronary arteries as a precaution before her kidney transplant in 2004. It’s fairly routine, and after lying flat for about 12 hours, the patient can usually resume normal activities. Best wishes for former President Clinton for a speedy recovery.

Get well soon, Bubba. Maybe Obama will bring you a cup of coffee while you’re recuperating.

I have to say, I could care less about this. I hope he gets well, but…meh.
Emily M. on February 11, 2010 at 5:26 PM
The people I know who have met Clinton say that there was just something about him that made you want to like him even if you knew he was trying to screw you over with his policies. He would indeed sit at the counter of a Waffle House.
Barry doesn’t even know what a Waffle House is and if he were to dine there, it would only be after the Secret Service cleared the place out and blocked the entrance to the interstate so that the royal entourage could get to the parking lot without delay. And even then, he’d be a lousy tipper.

Interesting ad juxtaposition: t-shirt with Clinton’s face on it. Are those keyworded to the content of the post?

Anyway, in Texas, it’s “Whataburger.” I’m not in love yet.

Any excuse for Bill to be around Nurses..
Just kidding, Bill! Have a speedy recovery!
Nethicus on February 11, 2010 at 5:29 PM
Are you kidding me? They hate each other with a passion now. And it’s pretty well documented, even by Hillary, that Bill tried to beat the crap out of Morris one night in the White House kitchen.
Get a grip.

OK, you guys have convinced me. He’s in for a slowing down in life, but he’ll survive.
I predict Hillary will resign as SoS after this 4 year gig, and they’ll both settle into working for his Foundation.
Chelsea is a doll in my opinion. She’ll marry and avoid politics, probably.

Get well, President Clinton. Take it easy, fer cripe’s sake.
I’ve often thought he’s looked generally unwell since his first big heart surgery. I know it’s hard for a Big Dog like Clinton to take it easy, but I hope he does.

I can see one from my office window. Once a month visit. So as it doesn’t get old. But, the nicest thing about In and Out is that they pay far higher than any other fast food chain and expect a higher quality worker for it. Mostly college kids. Thus, when ordering, all parties actually speak English.

I don’t like the guy’s politics or morals. But, I always said that he probably a fun guy to play a round of golf with. Politics wise, Dear Leader sure makes Bubba look good. Hope he’s out of danger.

It’s that temper of his. Boy, did he get worked up during the primary.
Everyone who predicts Hillary would run again didn’t see what I saw, anyway. She wouldn’t because Bill simply would die.
And I don’t care what some of you think. She loves the guy.

What’s that about? He’s really not all that complicated. He never had to rape anyone, for sure. I bet 50% of the women in America had Bill Clinton sex dreams. I’ve always thought that is really why most men resented him terribly. They knew.

God bless and keep the First Mate, Ed. And, Willie as well.
..as a fellow wearer of chicken-wire in the heart, I know it’s serious but survivable and the result of an angioplasty.
Funny how things are relative. The “Do you miss me yet” phrase can be applied to Slick as well as “W” in light of the Pantload-in-chief in the Oval Office these days.
Hell, I could see Hillary abandoning SOS to take care of Bill and then, after he is back on his chasing broads, she could mount a challenge to the POSOTUS in 2012.
Love to see it.
VoyskaPVO on February 11, 2010 at 5:48 PM

I really don’t have any interest in your type of snark attack, which I guess you imagine is political discourse.
It isn’t. It’s just nothing but snark attacks. I sometimes ask myself why anyone would so enjoy that, but I have to admit, I just don’t really get it. I think that’s probably a good thing.
There are some things in life that I prefer to be ignorant about.
Your attitude and consistent snark stuff is one.

When Clinton isn’t using his charisma to level your party he’s a cool guy.
I went to a jazz club in Prague once and found out it was the same club that Clinton played his sax at in his infamous visit there. After the show Clinton and Havel (the Czech prez at the time)left the club and just walked around Prague together.
That doesn’t seem like a scenario Our Current Majesty would take part in.

Cousin’s Burgers in my neck of the woods. I am not crazy about In-and-Out fries, either.
Cousins had fresh-cut fries, too. But they tasted right. I think it must have had something to do with the oil.

Of course Hillary was in no rush to leave the office… the timing is wrong. If Bill goes down for the dirt nap in the 3rd year of Obama’s term, she could garner the sympathy vote and run against an incumbent Dem, riding and whipping the “Bill really hoped that I would be president some day. I’m doing this for him,” pony.
