Video: The media’s got a fee-vah and the only prescription is more Palin crib notes

posted at 4:52 pm on February 8, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via Media Blog, Breitbart, and Think Progress, a smattering of “insight” on the greatest political scandal of modern times: Sarah Palin’s crib notes. Of the three clips, the slo-mo replay in the CNN video is my very favorite moment, but Shuster’s “hmmm” and Mitchell’s hand-wringing over what public reaction would be had Mitt Romney done this (horrors!) are close seconds. Nate Silver’s point that writing on her hand plays into negative aspects of Palin’s image is fine, I guess — Obama’s silly “corpsman” gaffe resonated for the same reason — but I’m mystified by the hypocrisy charge. Goofing on Obama for being some sort of presidential Ron Burgundy with his teleprompter is now unfair because she used … a five-word list of bullet points?

It’s nice to see that Sarahcuda’s having fun with it, though. “Hi Mom!”

You are wrong. Does that make you blind or a liar?

I can see saying it was no big deal but why deny what was clear?

crr6:

You’re clearly not a lawyer as you claim. Lawyers present their cases, not go fucking awry when their ‘credentials’ are questioned.

In a case, any case, before the bar or the court, a lawyer doesn’t say “I went to Harvard Law School.”

You’re as fucking phony as a wooden nine-peso American coin with Obama’s picture on it.

Irrelevant quitters always have writing on their hands discussed on the national news.

Her book’s closing in on 3 million in sales and she’s a highly sought after speaker and campaigner.

That’s irrelevant, according to you. I picture you putting your fingers in your ears screaming, “Lalalalalala I can’t hear you!!!”

Richard Romano on February 8, 2010 at 6:25 PM

You have to admit it’s unusual. For whatever reason, politicians never write little notes to themselves on their hands. If Palin’s fans are cool with it, okay, but don’t act all shocked and offended that everyone else thinks it looks ridiculous.

RightOFLeft on February 8, 2010 at 5:56 PM

Ridiculous? Teleprompters in an elementary school classroom, THAT’S ridiculous. Obama would’ve looked better with notes on his hands in that case.

BTW, magna is pretty pathetic for the precedent of the Law Review (yes, he was a Precedent, there, too). The President is generally valedictorian, or close … but that wasn’t the case with the affirmative action precedent (the second in running that year was also a minority – What a coincidence!!) because by the ordinary rules he never would have made it onto the review. Do your homework, numbnuts.

neurosculptor on February 8, 2010 at 6:20 PM

Ummm no. Summa cum laude goes to the top 1%. Magna cum laude goes to the next top 10%. So unless there are only 4 or 5 people on Harvard Law Review, most of the people on there probably graduate magna cum laude.

If you’re falling back on ‘Obama’s got a law degree from Harvard etc’ as proof of how wicked smart he is when you could draw on his actual record as a ‘community organizer’, Senator, or President of the United States Of America I take this to mean you have no real proof.

Remember, you need to beat magna cum laude at Harvard Law.

crr6 on February 8, 2010 at 6:18 PM

Any grades in math beat any grades from Harvard Law, or any law school. I graduated cum laude, while having passed the doctoral entrance exam before I finished my BA. I left my doctoral work, some done at an Ivy (since you seem to care about that) to trade options.

But why would you even ask that question on an anonymous board? It seems fairly pointless.

As to any comparisons that you would understand, when The PRecedent releases his SATs and other standardized tests, then we can really compare. Given that The Precedent likely scored around 430 on his math section, such a comparison would be a total joke … which is why his scores have not been released.

neurosculptor on February 8, 2010 at 6:29 PM

You fail to acknowledge the real effects that Ivy League PC and minority quotas had on enrollment while Obama was in school. Also, letters of recommendation from the “right” people go a long way in getting someone like Obama accepted. And he most certainly had his Marxist connections from Hawaii to the elites of Chicago who pulled strings to promote Obama’s career from Occidental through Columbia and into Harvard.

Until Obama publishes scholarly treatises on his own, he has no credibility. He was and remains only a community agitator with PC credentials that include invitations to address law students in Chicago. He was never a professor, having never earned tenure or any sort of professorship at any university. His record is fabricated, and his elections utilized fraud.

Dude, there’s like zero evidence that Obama ever tried an actual case. I think he made it to court once, (for ACORN) but was the trial lawyer’s gopher boy. Trust me, he does not have what it takes to try a case to a jury.

And of course that’s crr6′s deal. It never has any evidence for anything it says. But it’s a hoot watching it try. Like watching a monkey try to screw a football.

Your Indonesian imbecile was two steps below anything the law review had bothered to take before. This is because that was back when there were sit-ins to have minority representation on the faculty and law review and Harvard bent over backwards to appease them. That’s why a lowly magna ended up as precedent of the law review. And that magna was only because of affirmative action among the grades. In case you didn’t know, Harvard had also changed their grading system to make the grading much more subjective – to help minority students.

And apparently it is so prestigious to graduate w/honors from Harvard that they award them to 90% of their students. You’re a tool.

http://www.boston.com/globe/metro/packages/harvard_honors/

This Boston Globe article has some insightful information on grade inflation at Harvard. In June 2001, a record 91 percent of Harvard students graduated with some type of honors (summa, magna, or cum laude), which was far more than Yale (51 percent), Princeton (44 percent), and other elite universities the Globe study examined.

Yes, the admissions officers are already aware of this issue and do factor it into their accept/reject/waitlist decisions.

Hey, curr, here’s help on your homework. From the New York Slimes article about the precedent of the law review:

First Black Elected to Head Harvard’s Law Review

By FOX BUTTERFIELD, Special to The New York Times
Published: February 6, 1990

[ ... ]

Change in Selection System

Mr. Obama was elected after a meeting of the review’s 80 editors that convened Sunday and lasted until early this morning, a participant said.

Until the 1970′s the editors were picked on the basis of grades, and the president of the Law Review was the student with the highest academic rank. Among these were Elliot L. Richardson, the former Attorney General, and Irwin Griswold, a dean of the Harvard Law School and Solicitor General under Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard M. Nixon.

That system came under attack in the 1970′s and was replaced by a program in which about half the editors are chosen for their grades and the other half are chosen by fellow students after a special writing competition. The new system, disputed when it began, was meant to help insure that minority students became editors of The Law Review.

Harvard, like a number of other top law schools, no longer ranks its law students for any purpose including a guide to recruiters.

You can look into the changes of the grading system and other “accomodations” that Harvard made in their attempt to appease whiners who wanted to be given things they didn’t earn or merit.

Yeah, there’s Obama’s stunning knowledge of legal precedent. Simply stunning.

ddrintn on February 8, 2010 at 6:54 PM

Heh. It’s funny how the “Constitutional scholar” hasn’t been able to get one Constitutional issue correct. He couldn’t even get the Honduran Constitutional issues correct.

Harvard must be very proud – as proud as they were when that moronic suit of theirs about military recruiters on campus got immediately thrown away by the SCOTUS in one of the most embarrassing courtroom smackdowns in recent memory.

neurosculptor on February 8, 2010 at 6:57 PM

crr6:

I’m out to hijack this thread to make it all about YOU.

You say you’re a grad of Harvard Law School, yet you have never shown in any of your posts you’re possibly a lawyer in any manner.

Correct me, please!

Liam on February 8, 2010 at 6:57 PM

Hmmm, George W Bush graduated from Yale and from Harvard (MBA!) and he was President of the United States so using crr6 logic Bush is supremely intelligent and capable…but I’m sure a lefty will never admit this.

Nice.

crr6 on February 8, 2010 at 6:56 PM

You see the crazy thing about the “intarwebs” is that you don’t have to be right next to someone for them to read what you write. We’ve come a long way from looking over someone’s shoulder on the bus.

Or, at least, some of us have.

russcote on February 8, 2010 at 6:59 PM

More importantly…. its 5 words SHE WROTE HERSELF…

vs entire reams of TOTUS speeches, written by an entire staff of writers…

We have no idea how much of those speeches are Barry… and how much are Rahm… or a plethora of other leftist politicians…

Romeo13 on February 8, 2010 at 6:53 PM

I doubt very much that any Obama writes any of his speeches (and I wouldn’t expect him to, either, he doesn’t (or shouldn’t) have time for that). But his delivery often leaves the impression that he doesn’t even know what’s in them – that he had minimal input in their preparation, and didn’t take the time to learn them before cranking up TOTUS. Truly pitiful.

ProfessorMiao on February 8, 2010 at 6:59 PM

An old joke:

A freshman scholarship student from the boondocks on his first day on the Harvard campus approaches an upperclassman BMOC (Big Man on Campus), asking, “Say, can you tell me where the Student Union is at?”

BMOC Upperclassen, sneeringly looking down his nose: “At Haaavahd, we do not end our sentences with a preposition.”

Freshman scholarship student from the boondocks replies: “Oh, yeah. I forgot. Say, can you tell me where the Student Union is at…*sshole?”

But YOU didn’t graduate Harvard, did you?

Even if you did, I rather buy a beer for a fighter pilot than I would a lawyer.

Tell us, ace–ever square down in front of the barrel of a gun? Ever get out of your ‘comfort zone’ and face a 50/50 you might die in the coming 2 seconds?

crr6 on February 8, 2010 at 6:58 PM

You’re a phony, a total liar.

You’re not a lawyer, and your claims of graduation of Harvard Law School are just bullshit.

Since Harvard is so great, you would have demonstrated its greatness by being an Officer of the Court. You have not at any time.

So, there are two things, then: Harvard Law puts out fools who don’t grasp the law and, in their way of doing things, make Harvard Law lose any level of credibility.

Or, Harvard Law is biased, and as such disregards the Constitution. That make it illegitimate far as American law is founded.

You are either a product of Harvard Law, or its embarrassment.

Well, she’s proven herself to quite shallow, and on the low end of intelligence. All in all, the perfect recruit for Obama’s communist hordes.

Her comments lack depth and insight. She does regurgitate talking points well though … so I can see how she managed to finish school. Sadly, no original thinking is evident in any of her comments.

You made your claims (quoting you isn’t required though you’d love that for your game)

You made claims, and they don’t stand. Get over yourself. You’re a shown (in many ways) to be a liar.

When you are willing to give all you have to the poor, to feed the hungry by your own choice out of your own pocket, will I find YOU, personally, to be valuable.

misterpeasea on February 8, 2010 at 7:28 PM

I have two simple points:

1) The television media gives the news via a teleprompter. I’d like to see them try and do it with out them. In fact, give the news with notes on their hands.

2) Ronald Reagan used note cards when giving speeches. His speeches are much better than Obama’s TOTUS. (And much better than Sarah Palin’s speeches)

Conservative Samizdat on February 8, 2010 at 7:29 PM
