Sorry, AP. No crocodile tears from me. Whatever he used to be, he was slime in his old age.

I don't really care if Hitler was a great Boy Scout in his youth. Nor do I care if "our soldiers are killing women and children" Murtha was a good person in his twenties. Some actions totally negate earlier charities. May he rest in heat.

It's probably been said before, but you just saw the quality of health care you're going to get if this mess passes.

Remember, this was done at a GOVERNMENT hospital by a surgeon employed by the GOVERNMENT. Also known as a single payer system.

The dead horse is dead. Quit wasting energy on kicking it

aaahhh, let the people get their pokes in. It quite cathardic.

put a wise, honest conservative in that seat.

consider the pokes on murtha as reminding ourselves what we don't want in a Senator.

I think the best and most respectful thing to do in honoring the passing of Murtha is to elect a good conservative to replace his seat.

William Russel and Tim Burns are the only two competitors for Murtha's seat right now.

Its time to drive another nail in the coffin of ObamaCare.

One thing I saw time and again during MY 22 years as a Marine (CAPITAL M, retired Former Marine),.....

Well, that puts my 4 in perspective. 22 gets a CAPITAL M. No doubt about it.

I always thought Murtha was a dirt bag. I can't help it, but I feel a sense of relief. Ordinarily I would wish he RIP, but in his case, I hope he is confronted by the thousands of great Marines he disgraced and has that burden throught his afterlife. I can't find it in my heart to say anything good about him because I can't think of anything good about him. He represented everything I loath about Washington.

Time for another Obama "campaign visit"!

Im sure lots of people have done good things in their youth like serve in the military or <strike>whatever</strike> what have you but john murtha was a discrace to the constitution that he took an oath to serve. theres no two ways about it.

Wadduya\' wanna\' bet the Murtha votes in the next election. Ted Kennedy too.This is why a Republican candidate needs at least a 2% lead to win any election.

From the Halls of Montezuma,
To the shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country’s battles
In the air, on land, and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
Of United States Marine.

This has to be prefaced by the DI with night duty shouting:

"Turn on the radio!"

Followed by a precision chorus, all laying at attention in their racks, shouting back:

"Sir, turn on the radio, Aye-Aye, Sir!

"From the halls of Montezoo-ooo-ma....."

That's simply how it has to be sung.

With no evidence to back this up, I'm convinced that he had Alzheimer's or another condition late in life that affected his judgement and emotional state. I met Murtha on a number of occasions in the 1990s while working on defense policy issues, when he was considered a Defense Hawk. Despite getting very animated and energetic over defense issues, I never witnessed him have the emotional outbursts and tear fests we remember him for today. I recall seeing him have a tear fest over an issue, perhaps Haditha, not sure, and thinking, "Wow, what the hell happened to this guy?? This isn't the guy I remember dealing with years ago."

But around the same time, a family member started exhibiting signs of Alzheimers. It was devastating, but Murtha's behavior seemed to fit with the onset of Alzheimers. People associate it with memory loss, but its much deeper than that, causing judgement issues and emotional mood swings and outbursts.

So based only on having dealt with him, then watching his behavior later in the context of dealing with a family member with Alzheimers I'm very sure that Murtha had a condition like that. It would of course be concealed or he'd lose re-election, and the Democrats really don't care so long as a warm breathing body occupies a seat and votes the right way. Tragic, I feel sorry for his family's loss even though late in life he hurt the very same defense issues he'd fought for most of his career.

Murtha, Murtha me oh my.

Lord, this man was far from perfect, and we both know it, so please, could you see your way clear to show him some good ol'-fashioned Murtha?

And we pray, may the Lord show him Murtha and love, as this man showed Murtha to the people of Johnstown, Washington D.C. and Haditha; wipe away his sins and soutures and make him whole; and redeploy him from Walter Reed to that great Okinawa in the sky.

From the Halls of Montezuma,
To the shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land, and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
Of United States Marine.

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in every clime and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job
The United States Marines.

Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven’s scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

I believe Mr. Murtha will have to answer to the sentries at the Pearly Gates for the passages listed in bold. St. Peter shall be the one to request admittance from. The thoughts of the Marine Sentries in Heaven will weigh heavily in the balance, I am sure.

And for whatever Honor you gave the Marines, Mr. Murtha, God Bless You. For whatever Dishonor you brought on them or yourself on their behalf, God Forgive You.

Such an apology shows humility, courage and integrity - all traits to be admired.

Thank you nico.

My internal cynic says that nobody on either side of the aisle would care about kicking coffins if it didn't look bad to the center.

After all, the center doesn't like "mean people." And it's "mean" to say bad things about someone that died. They're kind of like the smoking hot girlfriend everyone wants to keep ... but it's hard because they're dumber than a bag of hammers and they get upset every time someone wants to do something out of the ordinary.

So many times I hear people say "honor his service to our country" or something similar about a political enemy.

How come it is never seen as a dirtbag who took a short detour on his path of life to fake giving service to our country. Senator Horseface comes to mind. Nobody who is sane would claim he was a patriot simply because he was in uniform and was in Vietnam. Why is it any different with this guy?

Good character is not something that can be taken from a person but it is something that can be thrown away. If Murtha ever had it, he threw it away for the ability to worship self. His problem now is there are no mirrors where he is and nobody to tell him lies about his value.

He is left with only the truth he tried to hide for so long.

Well said

I won't miss him.

We can talk about his good side, but most everyone has a good side, and the rest are psychotics.

He did a lot of hurt while he was here. He raided the government treasury, and that is money coming out of the pockets of folk who can't afford a new coat, or a car repair. He stole this money with pride and it was called smart politics. He was shameless and out of control, and his ability to get the goods got him re elected, because greed begets greed and evil begets evil.

Corruption disguised as public service and he mixed the two so well he finally lost track of truth itself

What did Pelosi call him, a giant? She would know
