Quotes of the day

posted at 9:58 pm on February 7, 2010 by Allahpundit

“On Chief-of-Staff Rahm Emanuel, she said his comments calling liberal groups ‘f-ing retards’ was “indecent and insensitive” and cause for his dismissal.

“But the former governor went to great and sometimes awkward lengths to insist that when conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh used the same exact term to describe the same exact group, it was simply in the role of political humorist.

“‘They are kooks, so I agree with Rush Limbaugh,’ she said, when read a quote of Limbaugh calling liberal groups ‘retards.’ ‘Rush Limbaugh was using satire … . I didn’t hear Rush Limbaugh calling a group of people whom he did not agree with ‘f-ing retards,’ and we did know that Rahm Emanuel, as has been reported, did say that. There is a big difference there.’”

“Sarah Palin didn’t give a tea party speech last night. She gave a partisan Republican address. It was a purely political speech designed to position her for a presidential run in 2012 or 2016. Period. She wasn’t there to celebrate the organic nature of a movement she had nothing to do with creating. She was there to co-opt the name and claim the brand as hers. And she did…

“These weren’t the people who were out protesting. This weren’t regular folks. This was the same old network of conservative hacks, flacks, publicists and hangers-on. This was Conservative Inc…

“The tea party I’m familiar with was concerned more about the collusion of big business and big government than the War in Iraq. The tea party I’m familiar with was more concerned about rejecting the bailout of Wall Street while looking for ways reinvigorate the economy of Main Street than looking for Al-Qaeda. The tea party I’m familiar with seemed more concerned about restoring the Republic at home than Democracy abroad.

“Almost from start finish, Sarah Palin outlined an agenda that either ignored or de-emphasized the issues and the spirit that the tea parties were founded on.”

***
“While I suspect that mine is a minority view among the leadership of conservative activism and journalism (and I am often reminded in a jocular sort of way that my view of Palin is a minority among my colleagues at The Examiner and The Weekly Standard), I believe Palin is miles ahead of every other national figure in understanding where the country has been in the last year and what the Tea Party movement means about the future course of American politics.

“That doesn’t mean I think Palin is or even should be a candidate for president or any other elective office in 2012 or any other time. What it does mean is I believe Palin has a unique insight into the state of things and is moving systematically and intelligently in concert with that insight. Where that leads, nobody, including Palin, likely knows at this point.”

The reason i remain cautious concearning anything good coming out of NY state is due to the rummor they don’t count votes west of the George Washington Bridge, sort of like the absentee military votes.

Sarah Palin didn’t give a tea party speech last night. She gave a partisan Republican address.

Good lord. Geez, I vote Republican ok? I’m not registered as one. I’m a conservative. I’ve been out to several local tea parties. I get it. But, man some of these people just can’t be pleased with anything. And let’s be realistic about goals here. What established third party or whatever is going to even be on the ballot in the next election or two to even offer an electable alternative…Bueller, anyone? Exactly. So, this crap about screw the whole GOP is just nonsensical.

It doesn’t matter to me if Palin runs for president or not. What matters to me now is how much I enjoyed watching her speak last night. Home alone, I found myself laughing & cheering her words. I love that she always, always thanks our Vets and Troops. I admire the strenght Palin has shown with the onslaught of media attacks on herself/family. I love that she is not afraid to call out the Obama admin where she disagrees with policy. I love her snarky, sassy, quips! Like Palin, I am PROUD to be an American! I believe America is a force for good in the global community; and that we should never aplogize.

Will she run? Who knows? All I know is she is the only one I hear boldly talking (other than Scott Brown) and I like what she’s saying!

TN Mom on February 8, 2010 at 12:57 AM

Well, Huff-n-puff post is predictable crap.
The tirade Kleinheider spewed is Palin Derangement Syndrome on Parade. Sad and pathetic.
While Tapscott nails it. The best analysis of who Palin is and how she relates to the Tea Party.

The interview with Wallace was excellent. She didn’t let Chris snowplow his way over her answers. Which, were precise and on target.

If the GOP were to get any assemblance of conservative normalise, the Tea Party is craving for, and Palin who walks the walk and talks the talk, then 2010 and 2012 is all theirs to lose.

Nice coverage AP

On Chief-of-Staff Rahm Emanuel, she said his comments calling liberal groups ‘f-ing retards’ was “indecent and insensitive” and cause for his dismissal.

But was he wrong?

Kralizec on February 8, 2010 at 3:36 AM

The point about Rahm acting like a dick is the hypocrisy of it. Libs have made themselves out to be the most sensitive of the sensitive. Therefore, when they say the word “retards” it means they have not lived up to their lofty unreachable goals. But they already say Rush is hateful, so why should it matter if he says it?

How come those so-called crib notes don’t appear on the tape from C-Span or the tape from CNN?

How can the crib notes be “clear as a bell” considering the camera was 50ft away?

And the crib notes that were a cut and past from the C-Span or the tape from CNN?

A cropped pic of Palin’s had is blown up to create the close up and the words are “clear as a bell”?

Saw her on Wallace’s show and thought she was great. I mean she was on.

The “retard” thing doesn’t matter. She’s on the pulse of this country and she’s right about if O continues doing what he’s doing, he’s done.

I keep expecting her to sound stupid but she never does.
I didn’t see her convention speech but I’m glad I saw the Fox Sunday show.

I can really see indies going to her if she sound tolerant of abortion like she did today.
I already see people with open minds warming to her more now.

But, ya she’s still an idiot. /

It will be must see tv when she pays a visit to Couric again in ’12.

The speech was terrific, and I can’t imagine why any conservative wouldn’t have applauded it.

Governor Palin’s left palm gets more press than Obooboo.

Blacksmith8 on February 8, 2010 at 10:01 AM

The tea party I’m familiar with was concerned more about the collusion of big business and big government than the War in Iraq.

It’s true. With one convention, the Tea Party movement morphed into the GOP beltway hack War Party movement. Alas, usurped again.

As usual, the neoconservatives ruin everything good.

And will someone please explain to me how Obama is “weak on national security” after he’s delivered the largest defense spending in our history, created a permanent standing nation-building office, left the Orwellian Patriot Act in place, and expanded Bush’s stupid, ubercostly, perpetual nation-building wars? (Even Richard Perle sees no difference but in tone.)

Is it because he hasn’t declared war on Iran (yet), as warmongers Palin and Pipes (among others) are chomping at the bit to do?

Obama’s left palm gets more work than the American people.

LOL… GMAB with the lame ad homs already.

“Anti-Semite” is for the right what “racist” is for the left.

This guy gets it. This is what the tea parties are supposed to be all about. This is the type of keynote speech that should have been given at the Tea Party convention:

[...]

Americans are angry about executive compensation.

Rightfully so.

The executives at General Motors and Chrysler don’t deserve to make a lot of money. They made bad products that people didn’t want to buy.

The executives on Wall Street don’t deserve to make a lot of money. They were reckless. They borrowed huge sums to make bets that didn’t pay off. And they wasted trillions of dollars of precious capital, funneling it into housing instead of health innovation or high mileage cars or a thousand investments more productive than more and bigger houses.

Everyday folks who are out of work through no fault of their own want to know why people who made bad decisions not only have a job but a big salary to go with it.

No wonder they’re angry at Wall Street,

But if we keep getting angry at Wall Street, we’ll miss the real source of the problem. It’s right here. In Washington.

We are what we do. Not what we wish to be. Not what we say we are. But what we do. And what we do here in Washington is rescue big companies and rich people from the consequences of their mistakes. When mistakes don’t cost you anything, you do more of them.

[...]

Capitalism is a profit and loss system. The profits encourage risk-taking. The losses encourage prudence. Is it a surprise that when the government takes the losses, instead of the investors, that investing gets less prudent? If you always bail out lenders, is it surprising that firms can borrow enormous amounts of money living on the edge of insolvency?

I’m mad at Wall Street. But I’m a lot madder at the people who gave them the keys to drive our economy off a cliff. I’m mad at the people who have taken hundreds of billions of taxpayer money and given it to some of the richest people in human history.

I’m mad at President Bush and President Obama and Secretary Paulson and Secretary Geithner and Chairman Bernanake. And I’m mad at Congress. You helped risk-takers continue to expect that the rules that apply to the rest of us don’t apply to people with the right connections.

You have saved the system, but it’s not a system worth saving. It’s not capitalism but crony capitalism.

Alas…

I hate when George is lumped in the e conomic debacle

he was right on SS

he was right about fmae and fmac

he encouraged private initiative in healthcare

He fought a war where spending was quid pro quod against troop funding

GWB will be considered a very good president during very tumultuous times and it become clearer to anyone with a memory everyday Obama serves

Bush was a disaster, for conservativism and for the republic. That is not to say that Obama isn’t a catastrophe of the highest order, because he is.

By the by, it’s not only Richard Perle who sees no difference in Bushbama’s foreign policy:

Obama’s Latest Defense: I’m No Different From Bush

Steroids is the difference. Change® = Lots More of the Same spending, borrowing and printing, big government, corporatism, Banksta Bailouts, never-ending economic “stimuli,” assaults on our Constitutional rights, and perpetual war.

Rae on February 8, 2010 at 2:32 PM

Sarah Palin didn\’t give a Tea Party Speech?Well she sure fooled the 1000 some odd attendees I had the pleasure to sit with!If it wasn\’t a Tea Party Speech we sure did waste alot of time jumping up and yelling Hell Yeah!

speed on February 8, 2010 at 4:11 PM

George bush was not a disaster in anyway

Obama couldn’t have survived in his environment for the briefest of time.

GWB may end up being responsible for the rebirth of the middle east and breaking the tit for tat protocol in dealing with vermin

the left and obamas claim will be that they did all they could to prevent it

what’s your main complaint?
