Quotes of the day
posted at 9:58 pm on February 7, 2010 by Allahpundit
“On Chief-of-Staff Rahm Emanuel, she said his comments calling liberal groups ‘f-ing retards’ was “indecent and insensitive” and cause for his dismissal.
“But the former governor went to great and sometimes awkward lengths to insist that when conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh used the same exact term to describe the same exact group, it was simply in the role of political humorist.
“‘They are kooks, so I agree with Rush Limbaugh,’ she said, when read a quote of Limbaugh calling liberal groups ‘retards.’ ‘Rush Limbaugh was using satire … . I didn’t hear Rush Limbaugh calling a group of people whom he did not agree with ‘f-ing retards,’ and we did know that Rahm Emanuel, as has been reported, did say that. There is a big difference there.’”

“Sarah Palin didn’t give a tea party speech last night. She gave a partisan Republican address. It was a purely political speech designed to position her for a presidential run in 2012 or 2016. Period. She wasn’t there to celebrate the organic nature of a movement she had nothing to do with creating. She was there to co-opt the name and claim the brand as hers. And she did…
“These weren’t the people who were out protesting. This weren’t regular folks. This was the same old network of conservative hacks, flacks, publicists and hangers-on. This was Conservative Inc…
“The tea party I’m familiar with was concerned more about the collusion of big business and big government than the War in Iraq. The tea party I’m familiar with was more concerned about rejecting the bailout of Wall Street while looking for ways reinvigorate the economy of Main Street than looking for Al-Qaeda. The tea party I’m familiar with seemed more concerned about restoring the Republic at home than Democracy abroad.
“Almost from start finish, Sarah Palin outlined an agenda that either ignored or de-emphasized the issues and the spirit that the tea parties were founded on.”
***
“While I suspect that mine is a minority view among the leadership of conservative activism and journalism (and I am often reminded in a jocular sort of way that my view of Palin is a minority among my colleagues at The Examiner and The Weekly Standard), I believe Palin is miles ahead of every other national figure in understanding where the country has been in the last year and what the Tea Party movement means about the future course of American politics.
“That doesn’t mean I think Palin is or even should be a candidate for president or any other elective office in 2012 or any other time. What it does mean is I believe Palin has a unique insight into the state of things and is moving systematically and intelligently in concert with that insight. Where that leads, nobody, including Palin, likely knows at this point.”

I missed your question on the other thread which is now defunct.
Didn’t you ever read Beowulf?

Tell you what. Since I don’t know how to link, punch up Ann Coulter at Townhall? or maybe Human Events. Go right to the comments. It’s almost always first. Read one and you tell me if it’s AnninCan’s or not.

OK, now I remember, a little. No, I despised Beowulf, Chaucer, and a few other things my tenth grade English teacher was trying to foist on me. Like ‘Lord of the Rings’ series, it just bored the crap outta me. Left-brainer, here.

Cindy, when I go to WholeFoods out here I have to fight my way thru a hoard of Green Peace activists like I am on a safari, machete in hand, slashing a clear swath through the tropical underbrush.
But now they are back on save the whale thing since Global Warming has been exposed for all its glorious bogosity.

ObaMao is now pushing for a televised half-day summit at the Blair House for the Republicans in Congress to put their ideas for health care reform on the table:
http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MWZiMmM4YTlkZjdhZTgwZGNiNjJhZWFjMDBmYTBiOTc=
What a crock of manure for Mr. Wonderful to grab the limelight again and put on a dog and pony show!
onlineanalyst on February 7, 2010 at 10:08 PM
The GOP should tell The Precedent to go pound sand and get his Washington junta to just pass the magical $500 billion in Medicare waste bill that was supposed to be the main funding for their un-Constitutional takeover and redistribution of health care scheme. If all that money is out there, waiting to be legislated away, the dems ought to hop to it, right now.
Without that, The Precedent has nothing to add to any serious meeting. He’s a joke, at the very best. A huge, fragile ego attached to a pea-brain, with sinister intentions.
neurosculptor on February 7, 2010 at 10:14 PM
The GOP is beyond help if they give barri the chance to dig himself out with the help of Republican stooges. He was making noises about this “meeting” last week. The GOP should have turned the tables and been the ones to invite him to a roundtable discussion with the BEST in the GOP House & Senate – no sellouts allowed – no pre-arranged questions or scripting, just a no-holds-barred freewheeling discussion around the table with followups unlimited and full C-Span coverage.
Barri would have to say, “uh, umm, uhhh, well, let me be clear, I , I, I, can’t make it.” End of that story. Then the GOP needs to go about making sure obamacare dies once and for all while introducing their own free-market plan at a press conference of their time and choosing. And telling the nation that they can’t and won’t work with a President or Congress that pulled the kind of crap that they did. Go right over barri’s head to the people.
It sickens me to think that they will give that slimy dictator a platform for him to put his heel back onto our throats. It will be beyond the pale.

I don’t like poetry. I am no artiste. I couldn’t write a song or arrange music if my life depended on it. Pretty sad that the only music I can play is something already written.
Lanceman on February 7, 2010 at 11:22 PM
nobody’s done a post yet about what was the benefit of this conference thingy
happyfeet on February 7, 2010 at 11:23 PM
If they need to make barri look stupid, and get out of the inivitation that they stupidly let him make, on his terms, they should just point to the polls and say, “We can’t possibly discuss health care with you when the American people’s #1 priority is jobs. Why don’t you have a roundtable with us on job creation in the private sector? How does next Tuesday look? Can’t make it? Oh, too bad.”
tigerlily on February 7, 2010 at 11:24 PM
Well I can’t write music or poetry, but that doesn’t mean I can’t like it. As a matter of fact, I love art, although I have no talent for it.

Well, if it were going to happen, this would be the year. I don’t see how Paterson could possibly get re-elected, but Cuomo… Well, he might be able to eek it out. As for Gillibrand, I really do think she herself is in trouble. For that seat to go to non-Donk hands though??? Hmmm

Hey, if it can happen in Mass, it surely can happen in NY.
MeatHeadinCA on February 7, 2010 at 11:57 PM
You are right.
That aspect has been dubbed “Security through Obscurity”.
But the last two years in a row the MAC has been hacked faster than a PC in industry events when MONEY is on the table. There are vulnerabilities in all OSes but MSFT got carried away with OCX controls trying to do programmatic interoperability between their core apps. These features were implemented without much consideration of security for the simple reason that most of the big players missed the coming of the internet.
