Quotes of the day
posted at 9:58 pm on February 7, 2010 by Allahpundit
“On Chief-of-Staff Rahm Emanuel, she said his comments calling liberal groups ‘f-ing retards’ was “indecent and insensitive” and cause for his dismissal.
“But the former governor went to great and sometimes awkward lengths to insist that when conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh used the same exact term to describe the same exact group, it was simply in the role of political humorist.
“‘They are kooks, so I agree with Rush Limbaugh,’ she said, when read a quote of Limbaugh calling liberal groups ‘retards.’ ‘Rush Limbaugh was using satire … . I didn’t hear Rush Limbaugh calling a group of people whom he did not agree with ‘f-ing retards,’ and we did know that Rahm Emanuel, as has been reported, did say that. There is a big difference there.’”

“Sarah Palin didn’t give a tea party speech last night. She gave a partisan Republican address. It was a purely political speech designed to position her for a presidential run in 2012 or 2016. Period. She wasn’t there to celebrate the organic nature of a movement she had nothing to do with creating. She was there to co-opt the name and claim the brand as hers. And she did…
“These weren’t the people who were out protesting. This weren’t regular folks. This was the same old network of conservative hacks, flacks, publicists and hangers-on. This was Conservative Inc…
“The tea party I’m familiar with was concerned more about the collusion of big business and big government than the War in Iraq. The tea party I’m familiar with was more concerned about rejecting the bailout of Wall Street while looking for ways reinvigorate the economy of Main Street than looking for Al-Qaeda. The tea party I’m familiar with seemed more concerned about restoring the Republic at home than Democracy abroad.
“Almost from start finish, Sarah Palin outlined an agenda that either ignored or de-emphasized the issues and the spirit that the tea parties were founded on.”
***
“While I suspect that mine is a minority view among the leadership of conservative activism and journalism (and I am often reminded in a jocular sort of way that my view of Palin is a minority among my colleagues at The Examiner and The Weekly Standard), I believe Palin is miles ahead of every other national figure in understanding where the country has been in the last year and what the Tea Party movement means about the future course of American politics.
“That doesn’t mean I think Palin is or even should be a candidate for president or any other elective office in 2012 or any other time. What it does mean is I believe Palin has a unique insight into the state of things and is moving systematically and intelligently in concert with that insight. Where that leads, nobody, including Palin, likely knows at this point.”

Palin for QOTD? I’m shocked.
conservative pilgrim on February 7, 2010 at 10:00 PM
Nobody who was a major figure in 2008 should be there at 2012…
No Palin, No Romney, No Huck, etc etc etc… in fact, they should go away now…
That leaves Pawlenty, Daniels, heck even Scott Brown over them…
ninjapirate on February 7, 2010 at 10:01 PM
Actually, she did. Very much so. Palin did a great job at addressing the core Tea Party concerns and she did everyone a great favor with those heavy hits she landed on The Precedent and his Washington junta.
I don’t know who this author is, but he’s just babbling incoherently. Someone should take his keyboard away from him.

OT: Because I am not interested in any more Palin bashing by the usual suspects.
ObaMao is now pushing for a televised half-day summit at the Blair House for the Republicans in Congress to put their ideas for health care reform on the table:

So she had her whole speech written on her palm? Her hands don’t look that big.
ddrintn on February 7, 2010 at 10:09 PM
Isn’t that a little tad too megalomaniac? Seriously, the smart thing to say is that “No, I’m not thinking about running for president” even if you are thinking about running for president…
Please Palin, go out and say “I’m not running in 2012″ and you’ll be a better advocate…
ninjapirate on February 7, 2010 at 10:10 PM
Palin is Blue Collar common sense ..

Seven Percent Solution on February 7, 2010 at 10:11 PM
Wrong. That’s exactly the folks who were there, and they LIKE Sarah Palin. Not all TEA Party’ers could afford the time, travel or cost. But those who attended will bring all the info back to their regions. That’s what grass-roots Patriots do. You almost had me fooled with the nice Sarah photo AP, until I started reading the quotes. Same old, same old…
indypat on February 7, 2010 at 10:12 PM
Kleinheider’s concern trolling over the fate of the Tea Party is just precious.
Lehosh on February 7, 2010 at 10:13 PM
The GOP should tell The Precedent to go pound sand and get his Washington junta to just pass the magical $500 billion in Medicare waste bill that was supposed to be the main funding for their un-Constitutional takeover and redistribution of health care scheme. If all that money is out there, waiting to be legislated away, the dems ought to hop to it, right now.
Without that, The Precedent has nothing to add to any serious meeting. He’s a joke, at the very best. A huge, fragile ego attached to a pea-brain, with sinister intentions.
neurosculptor on February 7, 2010 at 10:14 PM
Strongly agree! Let’s chat about the Audi commercial featuring the Green Police. Would have been funnier if it wasn’t BHO’s dream/goal.
indypat on February 7, 2010 at 10:15 PM
No Scott Brown. Please. He can stay in the MA Senate seat and if he starts voting the way I suspect he will once the far far left bills stop coming down the chute he will not have anywhere near the support he did on his way into office. (Don’t get me wrong I think his election was worth it, it did after put the dems into total disarray)
clement on February 7, 2010 at 10:16 PM
Let’s have Palin v. Obama at the Blair House. Standard debate rules.
r keller on February 7, 2010 at 10:16 PM
We were sitting there watching it, and I honestly was SHOCKED by how hilarious it was!!! I’m like, OK, who did this; this is just brilliant advertising! I want to buy the car now (although I won’t because I cannot afford it). Sarcasm was just dripping from that ad!
deidre on February 7, 2010 at 10:18 PM
So bring in a moderator with an Obama book to sell? :)
ThePrez on February 7, 2010 at 10:18 PM
The Precedent isn’t a fair debater. He just makes stuff up and lies on the spot, and the media usually lets him get away with all but the most unbelievably egregious that they just cannot ignore or twist around.
neurosculptor on February 7, 2010 at 10:18 PM

You mean the Green Police ad? I thought it was to be a parody lampooning the enviro-marxists and much to my surprise it was meant to embrace that ideology.
Made my head spin. I guess that strategy is to co-opt the obvious Green Police meme before it gets interpreted as Green Policing of your freedoms.
Having been a victim of an act of ELF (Earth Liberation Front) terrorism (their creative use of arson) out here in CA I didn’t find it humorous.

What a few are missing: Sarah Palin is (chief among) the new blood they claim they crave. Live with it!
And no, she should not denounce a potential candidacy. I’m always suspect of those who desire for Sarah Palin to do so. They only ever seem to be asking this extraordinary act from her and no other public figure.
Sharr on February 7, 2010 at 10:20 PM
Agreed. The Repbublicans should just tell ObaMao that a camel is a horse put together by a committee. All of the schmoozing (in an afternoon???) will not resurrect this lame horse. He should be told that he has the majority to pass his bill, but if he is serious in reforming the system, he will have to scrap that 2,000+ page abomination and start from scratch. Only then should such a sharing of ideas take place.
The Fool prides himself on putting together discussion groups pretending to reach solutions while he preens before a camera…and ignores any idea contradictory to his own.

I saw Palin today in Cypress, TX along with some guy named Perry running for Governor. All kidding aside, the woman has a gift. She articulates conservatism like no one I’ve seen since Reagan. And if the crowd reaction was any indication, she has every conservative vote in this country locked. All she has to do is woo enough independents and Obama’s finished.
And as was evident from the Chris Wallace interview, she’s come a long way in the last year and a half when it comes to domestic and foreign policy issues. All of those pundits who demanded that she do her homework are getting what they asked for. I’d pay good money to see her go face-to-face with Couric again.
Doughboy on February 7, 2010 at 10:23 PM
Exactly. This is why the “educated class” hates her (and us). They cannot relate to us, nor do they care to. Thankfully, we can relate to them because we blue collar folks are pretty smart. Most of us choose not to, which I think pisses them off.
SouthernGent on February 7, 2010 at 10:24 PM
I guess I was confused about the ad then. I was in a sports bar in Libby CA and People were cheering on the Actions of the Green Police well before the punch line.
When they raided people for incandescent light bulbs they cheered, plastic bottles garnered another cheer, when the punch line came it was crickets.
My jaw hit the floor. Perhaps the response is what got me confused about the intended sarcasm which I apparently missed as a result.
Geochelone on February 7, 2010 at 10:25 PM
This is how it usually starts isn’t it? They give a compiment but are embarressed to ‘come out of the closet’ for Palin. So they have to walkit back alittle. The Secret Supporter Society, I suppose.
She has moved a mountain in 6 months, but its not yet “cool” to be in washington and be a Palin fan. However, there is nothing but time, determination and endless media attention in her bag’o'trix. This past year has been the best reality TV show I have ever seen. There is literaly a new development every day.
Amadeus on February 7, 2010 at 10:27 PM
Palin twists and tortures the minds of so many people. It’s a cliche to say, but she is now the official national Rorschach test — in this case, for determing elitism, leftism, misogyny, maybe other wonderful things, too. Meanwhile, she plows ahead cheerily and indomitably.
rrpjr on February 7, 2010 at 10:28 PM
This is like Microsoft swooping down and taking over Apple.
MB4 on February 7, 2010 at 10:28 PM
I could have gotten it wrong too I guess. Arresting people for using the wrong light bulbs, seems like most individuals would believe that to be out of line just like it is out of line for environmental wackos to say diesel is dirty. I could be wrong too though. We thought it was funny.

OOOOO yeah! I’d die happy to see Barry’s public meltdown.
katy the mean old lady on February 7, 2010 at 10:30 PM
Lessons from History….
Washington was regarded in some circles as not too bright.
Eisenhower was widely regarded as a intellectual lightweight.
Reagan of course was an “AMIABLE DUNCE” according to the chattering classes in D.C.
Palin writing on her hand to remember what points to make….if THAT is what the criticism is going to be from the Left? Please, if they don’t find something to attack her for in her words they will do it with her actions.
Palin is in good company.
And just FYI has anyone forgotten how the media loved one of their favorite RINO whores McCain until he actually was the nominee and then they just ripped him (houses, marrying Cindy for her money, the adopted daughter, the beer money that funded Cindy, the way he ditched his first wife, etc.)
If the media hates you?……..you must be doing something right.
Look what they said about Washington, Lincoln, Ike and Ronnie.
PappyD61 on February 7, 2010 at 10:30 PM
Palin had another cheat sheet on her hand today. It said,
Hi Mom
Will the media report on this?
lonestar1 on February 7, 2010 at 10:31 PM
I love the Audi ad mocking the Green Police. True, it would be funnier if these people weren’t trying to destroy the world economy.
Philly on February 7, 2010 at 10:32 PM
And, yes, Sarah Palin is a jewel, speaking common sense values rooted in a love for our Constitution and its protection of our freedoms.
The Leftie Loons may squeal and moan loudly, but they cannot and will not discuss the woman’s ideas with any rationality.

long_cat on February 7, 2010 at 10:36 PM
But do you think they knew what they were doing or saying in the ad? I’m not sure. I saw the ad as self-congratulatory without being aware of the very real fascist implications behind its comedy.
rrpjr on February 7, 2010 at 10:37 PM
This is what is so nutty about regional differences. I live in an area in which ELF burnt down a 50 million dollar development community and the next day not only did the media not cover it but no one ever talked about it.
So during the Ad these lefties were actually cheering on (not laughing about) the Green Police. It was an Alice in Wodnerland moment. That is what tainted my interpretation of it. CA is the land of nutjobs.

Same reaction to Palin here in Colorado. She won the my local county GOP straw poll with 90% of the vote just a few months ago. If it was held today, she probably would have gotten 98%.

CWforFreedom on February 7, 2010 at 10:45 PM
That was kind of my take on it, too. The message seemed to be, “If you buy this car, you’ll be OK with the green police no matter how whacked out they are”. They even turned on each other in the last scene, when the cop on the Segway asked the cop in the cruiser to step out because he was using a styrofoam coffee cup.
But maybe I’m too sensitive to this stuff after a year of 0bama.

Stupid Republicans. Dumb as dirt.
victor82 on February 7, 2010 at 10:54 PM
The big difference here is that Rahm Emanuel is a senior Government official and representative of the President so using that sort of language in public whilst preforming his duties as the Presidents chief of staff is totally unacceptable. Conversely Rush Limbaugh is a Talk Radio host (Albeit one of the most popular and influential in the country) So while his choice of words was unfortunate he is not in a position where is a representative of the United States Government and is only answerable to his listeners and his own bottom line as a businessman.
