Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the week?

posted at 9:00 am on February 7, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Once again, it’s time to bow to the Obamateurism of the Week, and once again, we have a lot of easy answers for you, but a tough decision.  Unlike our allies in Spain, you didn’t have to read about it in the papers.  Just keep in mind that Obamateurisms have plagued Obamateurisms for, like, a year, or something.  If the choice becomes too painful, just call for a corpsman — but don’t call him a corpseman.

Previous 2010 “winners”:

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Of corpse you know what I’ve chosen. So have a lot of others.

kingsjester on February 7, 2010 at 9:04 AM

“The Middle East is a problem that has plagued the region for centuries.”

Hey , that’s no amateurism , it’s just true…

the_nile on February 7, 2010 at 9:06 AM

For sheer amateurism, I gave it to the most egregious bow yet. But for the weightier mendacity, I’d pick eschewing the very “easy” healthcare answers he had promised scant months earlier.

paul1149 on February 7, 2010 at 9:06 AM

An embarrassment of riches. I went with “corpse-man” because it shows Obama for what he is: An idiot pretending to be smart and failing miserably.

Extrafishy on February 7, 2010 at 9:09 AM

The corpse of the illusion that he is anything other than a blithering idiot.

backwoods conservative on February 7, 2010 at 9:10 AM

As usual, the choice of one is a real problem. I went with “Spain” because that gaffe is ultimately the most important in the long run. This fool is certainly destroying the prestige of our nation among our former allies. This cannot be a good thing for our future in a dangerous world.

FOWG1 on February 7, 2010 at 9:11 AM

Wow, “great” week of blunders to choose from.

Of corpse I went with “corpse-man”. It shows that he really could care less about the military and “little people”.

I can’t wait for the Obama blooper reels to hit youtube like the Bush blooper reels.

uknowmorethanme on February 7, 2010 at 9:12 AM

This week’s OOTDs are not the most egregious ones ever but all point out the empty suit this guy really is. I went with easiest answers – perfect example of not being able to keep track of which lies you’ve already told.

His corpse of work is truly unprecedented!

ya2daup on February 7, 2010 at 9:15 AM

Had to go with corpse-man.

Not only because he doesn’t have the sense to actually take a moment and think, “gee that doesn’t look right” and say it THREE times – but the bonus not getting the guy’s name right, calling the “corpseman” Christopher and Christian.

Putz.

tru2tx on February 7, 2010 at 9:17 AM

Is anyone considering a Plan B? Obama can’t govern, and we’ve got 3 more years. That’s a dangerous situation. If we take the Congress back in 2010, can the country still be effectively led and protected even with an absent Executive?

JiangxiDad on February 7, 2010 at 9:17 AM

Corpseman fer shur! But with a possible caviat: Do I remember hearing something about, “That’s the way they say it at Haaaahvard?”
Still, even at that, he should pronounce it like the rest of America. It show’s not only his elitist attitude, but also proves beyond any doubt that he simply reads the words that TOTUS provides, but all the while the words he is hearing in his head are, “I am so completely awesome, I even impress myself!”

Chewy the Lab on February 7, 2010 at 9:18 AM

jerrytbg on February 7, 2010 at 9:27 AM

I went with the bow. The others just show he’s an idiot, but this one proves he’s a clown.

With every passing day, I get more of a hankering to see Obama’s school records; it would be reassuring to know he was at least a C student.

Dusty on February 7, 2010 at 9:27 AM

i bet we send friendly messages to Iran any old time. Spain, not so often.

kelley in virginia on February 7, 2010 at 9:27 AM

Tough one. Of course corpseman is the simple answer. But some of the others are real zingers too. The Middle East problem almost sounds like a Bushism. But I won’t give Barry credit for being smart enough for one of those.

conservnut on February 7, 2010 at 9:28 AM

None of the above. I vote for forgetting the name of the women who worked on his campaign, couldn’t get health insurance (Obama didn’t offer a great plan for his own workers with all that cash?), died from breast cancer, was going to be buried in an Obama t-shirt and he couldn’t be bothered to remember her name.

That one eclipses all of the others.

But…just remember…that’s the way they say it in POCK-E-STAHN and at HAAAAA VUD.

I hope the Marine aviator that pilots Marine One isn’t in the Marine Corpse. That might make for a rough landing.

kam582 on February 7, 2010 at 9:41 AM

When one has supported Ameri”corps”, encourages others to join the Peace “Corps”, and who is flown from the White House in Marine One helicopter piloted by outstanding members of the Marine “Corps”…then there is no other obvious answer as to what is the Obamateurism of the Week.

Silent “ps”—making a comeback.

PS: I challenge the faculty of Occidental, Columbia and Harvard. The challenge is to prove that you are either competent, or Obama was a poor student. It is one or the other. For if you are competent, Mr. Obama must not have been “present”, or was “present” and did not comprehend your worthwhile instruction in the use of “ps” when surrounded by evidence to the contrary of its proper silence.

My thoughts as well. Screwing up the “POTUS does not bow” protocol once is just silly. Repeating it over and over makes it seem like willful ignorance.

swede7 on February 7, 2010 at 9:42 AM

I’m not too upset about the EU. They deserve a snub every once in a while just because of their elitism. But, the whole “corpseman” speech was just too much for me. It shows his lack of knowledge concerning the men he is supposed to be commanding. His verbal gaffes are becoming priceless.

we don’t call our country a c*nt and the president shouldn’t refer to a Navy Corpsman as a corpse.

ted c on February 7, 2010 at 9:49 AM

I picked Spain. Mostly because everyone I know was talking about how Obama was going to make all the allies love America again. Because he is so S-M-R-T and not like the cowboy. Then he pulls crap like this. Yet kowtows to known enemies of America (unless, of course your friends call you The Great Satan on a regular basis).

The Corpse-Man was probably worse, but since I’m a foreign policy nerd, the Spain thing gets my vote.

My favorite quote was:

My chance of survival was pegged at just 13% as a result of the delay in diagnosis and treatment caused by inadequate health coverage.

Hey, dumba**, your chance of survival was 13% because you were too stupid to actually do something when it could have been higher. And number 2, your chance of survival wouldn’t have changed if you had “adequate” health coverage. Stage 4 cancer is pretty much always terminal. Whether you live in a cardboard box in Los Angeles or in a penthouse in Manhattan. So making some idiotic and childish allegation that health insurance could “cure” you, well, not quite right.

Anyway, it’s a shame she passed away. But her decisions put in that position not her lack of health insurance.

But I’m worried that our system in fact needs a functioning exec to work well in the face of attack, and clearly Obama’s proven not to be that guy. The whole purpose of these “Obamateurisms” was to show that. Ok, now it’s shown. I think we ought to be thinking about what to do now that time has proven even to the dumbest among us that he’s a zero. To put it bluntly, if I was a terrorist, I’d pull a Tet on the US right now. It’s unlikely we’ll ever again have as ineffectual leadership. And in the vacuum created by his Nothingness, much mischief, or worse, can be done.
