Horror: Gametime Tebow ad features domestic violence! Update: Prediction fulfilled

posted at 7:11 pm on February 7, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Via Story Balloon, the actual game-time ad featuring Pam and Tim Tebow turned out to be a funnier version of the first one, where Tim tackles his mom — who then worries that he may not be as tough as she is. It’s cute, completely non-threatening, and utterly unobjectionable.

Which means, of course, that the people who shrieked over CBS’ completely understandable decision to allow Focus on the Family to buy ad space will have to find some reason to justify their panic.  Want to bet that someone will gripe about making light of domestic violence?

Meanwhile, GoDaddy managed to avoid the wrath of feminists while continuing its one-note campaign.  Well, two notes, actually.

Update: And you thought I was kidding

Update II: Omri Ceren takes a trip down Memory Lane on outrage over violence against women and the Left.

Update III: Another entry in the predictable spin.  At least I got one Super Bowl prediction right!

Good call. I bet you’re proven right.

That ad is racist, or something.

Blarg the Destroyer on February 7, 2010 at 7:13 PM

If the crazies are going to bring up DV then I think they need to complain about the Dorito commercial with the little boy slapping a grown man in the face.

Brat4life on February 7, 2010 at 7:16 PM

Remember when the N.O.W. said that SuperBowl Sunday has more wife betings than any other day of the year? That’s because the wives keep asking dumb questions like “What face masking mean?” N.O.W. was lying and everybody knew it.

Tony737 on February 7, 2010 at 7:16 PM

Sorry, wife beatings ^

Tony737 on February 7, 2010 at 7:17 PM

You Lie!

chicagotrauma on February 7, 2010 at 7:17 PM

Excellent job by this group in getting hours of free air-time with liberal heads exploding during this past week. As usual, libs overreact and hurt themselves by making this ad the focus of discussion all week.

PatMac on February 7, 2010 at 7:17 PM

Too wholesome, perverted left must destroy!

MeatHeadinCA on February 7, 2010 at 7:22 PM

PatMac on February 7, 2010 at 7:17 PM

Seriously. That’s some pretty good marketing strategy going on there.

missl on February 7, 2010 at 7:22 PM

Pam Tebow consented to this “skit” and in fact was part of it.

This is in contrast to, for example, the ad in which Sarah Palin, being interviewed by Katie Couric, was tackled by a football player. (Sorry, forgot his name.) The video was manipulated to have that scene.

So really the howlers have nothing to whinge about.

fireweednectar on February 7, 2010 at 7:23 PM

HAHA! Brilliant move by FOTF. The Tebow story got out to just about everyone because of the news coverage, and the ad itself was about as objectionable as your average Sprite ad.

In the process, the pro-choicers were forced to show their true pro-abortion colors.

Definitely a win for the pro-life cause.

Vera on February 7, 2010 at 7:24 PM

That was it?? That was the ad?? That was what everyone was hyperventilating over?? I thought it was a big nothing.

MochaLite on February 7, 2010 at 7:25 PM

Cute! Funny! And I can picture my (tiny) mom saying that after getting tackled by my brothers…
“I will knock your (German swear words) rear end into next week!”
Love ya, Ma!

OhioCoastie on February 7, 2010 at 7:28 PM

That was funny.

ladyingray on February 7, 2010 at 7:29 PM

That was funny.

I was teasing my cousin who has at least seven inches on me (and 100 pounds) that I could take him. He proceeded to “beat me up” (by that I mean, he picked me up and threatened to throw me in the pool). This commmercial (the tackle-y version) reminds me of that.

Tebow: Hey Mom! Tried to kill you from the womb and failed. How about a blind side tackle? Violence against Moms FTW!

The Left is beyond parody.

There must be one more commercial in which Tim and his mom shoot an abortionist or something.

Otherwise, the outrage makes no sense.

In a related development, this evening the National Organization of Women you wouldn’t boink no matter how drunk you got withdrew it’s objection to the Tebow ad.

They look more obtuse and idiotic on this issue than the Democrats and Obama look on health care and I didn’t think that was possible.

gophergirl on February 7, 2010 at 7:38 PM

Pam Tebow is a beautiful woman, inside and out. She just glows. And if there’s one thing the left hates, it’s women who glow with peace, beauty, and a deep, deep love and appreciation of their own God-given femininity.

Yes, I like AnninCA for my own reasons, but I’m not her ‘prince’ unless she says so, so I have problem with you using me as a roundabout way of attacking her.

Leave me out of your issues, if you don’t mind.

I’m so tempted to say that calling you Ann’s “Prince” is complimentary where I come from… BUT, I won’t.

Yawnsville. Not anywhere near as propaganda-ish as I’d imagined. The pro-choice crowd needs to pick their battles far more carefully, if this is all it takes to send them into orbit.

Amanda Marcotte doesn’t really count as a fulfillment of the prediction, though. When your IQ is lower than your shoe size, you’re pretty irrelevant.

If her IQ was somewhere near her dress size, maybe she’d be worth listening to.

I’m sure the left wing scumbags will find some way to trash the Tebow ad.

rplat on February 7, 2010 at 7:58 PM

That’s easy! His ad didn’t mention the other side, that abortion is just as ‘good’ as a choice. Since the ad didn’t let people know that, Tebow and his mom are bigots who hate women! Worse, they’re Republicans! I bet they want tax cuts, too!

See how easy that is?

lansing quaker on February 7, 2010 at 8:04 PM

Focus on Family pulled a Breitbart. They didn’t release the ads to allow the lib-tards the opportunity to make their stupid and paranoid statements. Now that the ads have run and are innocuous, those liberals have overreacted and exposed their anti-life, anti-woman agenda.

Mallard T. Drake on February 7, 2010 at 8:05 PM
