Could this AP report on Palin’s speech from Liz Sidoti be any snider? And of course they used the worst possible photo. This fictional observation is just one irritant:

Indeed, Republican observers say she’s seemingly done more lately to establish herself as a political celebrity focused on publicity rather than a political candidate focused on policy.

Which “Republican observers” would that be, Liz? Do you have one “observer” you can cite to back this up, or is this merely projection on your part? But hey, as an observer of Democrats, I’m not surprised at the sloppy editorializing masquerading as journalism.

Buy Danish on February 7, 2010 at 8:38 AM

Maybe Dear Leader needs a handprompter that has “corpsman” spelled out phonetically. Three times no less.

Sultry Beauty on February 7, 2010 at 3:04 AM

Brilliant as always. I think you represent far more people than they do.

There’s an interesting line in the movie, “The End of Days” where the Priest tells Arnold, “The Devils greatest feat was convince people he doesn’t exist.”

The Corrupt Media Establishment’s greatest trick was convincing the majority it is a minority.

Massachusetts proved that is just a lie. When a true conservative stands up and stays consistent the majority rises up in support.

Conservatives greatest mistake is trying to make themselves acceptable to the Corrupt Media Establishment.

Reagan, and now Palin and Brown, have shown was Rush often says, “Conservatism wins every time it is tried.”

TheBigOldDog on February 7, 2010 at 8:41 AM

They’ve also created what she is today.

The constant attacks have made her focus on her own core beliefs instead of trying to work towards bipartisan or more moderate, compromised efforts that she was more focused on before becoming a national figure.

So she has become a leader of a movement that is threatening to overtake both parties in overall popularity.

Keep on attacking her all the way to the White House!

Mr Purple on February 7, 2010 at 8:35 AM

I agree.

I think she’s one who knows how to work with the opposition party on issues where there’s common ground but she’s also aware that there are issues where there is no common ground and that it’s dishonest to suggest that you will “reach across party lines” on every single issue…especially the super contentious ones like health care.

And I think her experiences in the gauntlet she endured last year and through part of 2009 helped her tighten her focus and made her more comfortable in her core beliefs and conservative principles.

She’s also showing what a fighter she is. She doesn’t back down from a fight…or cower from criticism. She barrels through it and focuses on her goals. Her actions and attitude show what a complete lie the non-starter “quitter” meme really was.

powerpro on February 7, 2010 at 8:41 AM

The left and RINOs are NOT going to support Palin no matter what. That is just simply the way it is. To paraphrase something Palin said last night – consider the source of the snide remarks, let it roll off your back and move on with the agenda of taking the country back. Ignore the ankle biters.

KickandSwimMom on February 7, 2010 at 8:41 AM

Character is important. And it doesn’t show much character to crib note while she’s doing nothing but preaching to the choir anyway.

You guys don’t find it a bit hypocritical to chastise The One for using a teleprompter, but giving Palin a “so what?” for cribbing notes on her hand?

Really?

That whole statement is one giant logical fallacy from beginning to end. Using notes during a speech is not a character flaw–if it were then just about every public speaker and lecturer from Demosthenes to today is fatally flawed.

Cut the childishness. You don’t like Palin, fine–no skin off my nose. Just quit behaving like a five year old tattling on his little sister because she snatched a cookie from the cookie jar. Grow up.

Matt Helm on February 7, 2010 at 8:41 AM

And I go read some more of these comments and their are complaints that she didn’t give a specific policy speech?
Hilarious. Why on earth would she do that? This wasn’t a campaign speech.
Wow, people around here are dense.

bridgetown on February 7, 2010 at 8:42 AM

What the hell is the matter with you people? Can you not see how petty this is?

Since when is character “petty”?

Stop making excuses for Palin. It’s OK to criticize her when she screws up. It really is.

JetBoy on February 7, 2010 at 8:44 AM

That is so absurd. Or are you trying to be comical?

bridgetown on February 7, 2010 at 8:47 AM

You guys don’t find it a bit hypocritical to chastise The One for using a teleprompter, but giving Palin a “so what?” for cribbing notes on her hand?

Really?

JetBoy on February 7, 2010 at 8:37 AM

Actually, I don’t find any hypocrisy.

On one hand, Obama reads text composed for him word for word from a script. The thoughts are complete–so complete that Obama gives little thought to what he’s reading. (See the corpse-man video for confirmation and laughs.)

On the other hand, Palin worked from a written text as well and did fine. Still, she’s being excoriated for several one-word reminders on her hand. I didn’t watch the entire speech, but I listened to all of it. Was there a point that she held her hand up to read something off her hand? And even if she did, it was a one-word reminder that still required her to form a complete sentence in her head and then speak to the audience. That process would recognition which leads to thinking which leads to speaking. In contrast, Obama reading off a teleprompter is nothing more than reading out loud. It’s a skill, but it doesn’t involve much thought.

So, yeah, I don’t think it’s hypocritical.

BuckeyeSam on February 7, 2010 at 8:48 AM

JetBoy on February 7, 2010 at 8:37 AM

if you don’t know the difference between between notes and reading a teleprompter at every possible event including an elementary school classroom then you aren’t as bright as I thought. You could write anything on that teleprompter, including “F’ you San Diego” and he’d read it verbatim because he’s not even thinking about what he’s saying. That’s how you get “corpse man.” It’s a performance, not a speech.

You may may not like Palin much and that’s fine. But, let me ask you a simple question, who would you rather be President right this moment, Obama or Palin?

If you answer Palin you need to ask yourself why you bother beating her down when she is closer to your way of thinking than the current regime.

TheBigOldDog on February 7, 2010 at 8:49 AM

People are dogging Palin for Notes written on her hand?!!?

Seriously????

That’s about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Lame. So totally lame.

bridgetown on February 7, 2010 at 8:38 AM

It was an awesome speech. Listening to her quote President Kennedy…talk about core constitutional values, respect for our troops, state’s rights, fiscal responsibility and a government that listens to the people rather than lectures to them and makes backroom deals to ram something we don’t want through … well it made me all weepy.

If people have a problem that she might have scribbled a few thoughts down so she wouldn’t forget them during her extemporaneous Q and A segment, they can just talk to the hand. ;)

powerpro on February 7, 2010 at 8:49 AM

It doesn’t matter if the writing helped her give a better speech or not. I doubt it did. The bottom line is IT LOOKS STUPID AND MAKES HER LOOK IMMATURE.

Speedwagon82 on February 7, 2010 at 8:27 AM

Stupid and immature to who? Take a second to see whose company you’re putting yourself in.

If that doesn’t give you pause, than “stupid and immature” could apply to you.

Don’t you know? “Republican observers” are Democrats who watch the Republican Party and then comment. Again, liberal changing of meanings while being able to claim with a straight face they didn’t change the meaning. Of course, the change that isn’t a change doesn’t use the meaning of that unchanged change most people would hold.

Oh–is Palin running for office, is she a candidate? I didn’t know she was running in an election.

Yes, we know how the Left likes to play in litterboxes instead of sand boxes.

JetBoy, you are being very intellectually dishonest here. I’m very disappointed in your logic and reasoning.

Having “bullets” written on your hand to make sure you don’t miss anything important in a long speech has nothing to do with character but being intellectually dishonest does.

I’m through engaging with you on this since you are basically acting like a petulant child. Your upset because Palin is effective and many people are taking a second look at her and liking what they see. Deal with it.

KickandSwimMom on February 7, 2010 at 8:49 AM

To win the war against the radical Islamists who declared war against America, “we need a Commander in Chief not a “professor” of law standing at the lectern!”–Palin

Brava, Sarah!

Note well her generosity in spirit, as Obama was never a “PROFESSOR” anywhere, only a guest (visiting) lecturer. Where is the documentation proving the strict Constitutional Law semester courses that Obama lies about having taught?

No part-time gig qualifies as a full professorship at any accredited university. No one becomes a professor at any accredited school without producing PUBLICATIONS! “Publish, publish, publish!” is the requirement of university faculty, not simply showing up for class to lecture whether on a full-time or part-time basis.

maverick muse on February 7, 2010 at 8:50 AM

Liberals and the media dislike tea partiers because they represent generally conservative folks who haven’t voted or haven’t taken an active part in politics in the past. Tea partiers people are well-informed (much more so than Obama supporters) and they’re p*ssed. They’re the backbone of the country–and however they vote, it won’t be for politicians who support the Obama agenda.

BuckeyeSam on February 7, 2010 at 8:11 AM

Bingo! I would only add that they fear the teaparty movement with every fiber of their being.

Also, I’m going to weigh in on this handprompter vs. teleprompter thang.

If she had some notes written on her hand, so what??? The trolls can just skip back under their respective bridges. One of the recurring themes I’m hearing is their glee in saying “Sarah had notes on her hand while ridiculing the president for using a teleprompter!”

Um, no. It’s not the use of the teleprompter. Most people use a ‘prompter when giving a major speech (which Sarah didn’t do in this case, but did at the RNC…I also saw her glancing at notes at the podium last night [gasp and horrors]). It’s the utter laughability that the president seems to carry the teleprompter around with him, will not speak extemporaniously without hemming, hawing, stuttering…without his ‘prompter, the Great Orator sounds like Ppppporky Pppupig.

I thought Sarah rocked!

You may may not like Palin much and that’s fine. But, let me ask you a simple question, who would you rather be President right this moment, Obama or Palin?

McCain.

But that’s another story. As for Palin or Obama…neither one should be POTUS. But if I had to choose, I’d replace Obama wiht Palin in a heartbeat.

And it’s not that I “don’t like” Palin, it’s more her core support that I find objectionable.

JetBoy on February 7, 2010 at 8:53 AM

bridgetown on February 7, 2010 at 8:42 AMbridgetown on February 7, 2010 at 8:42 AM

Agreed. It is the first ever convention for the movement. She is not currently an elected official. She is not an announced candidate for President. The election is in 2012. It is early 2010.

She did outline a possible future campaign platform. Nobody should have expected much more than that.

I didn’t expect the blistering destruction of the Obama Presidency and the Pelosi/Reid Congress. She went after everyone full bore landing blow after blow…. and it looked like she loved doing it.

She supports the troops but said nothing about the rising death toll in Afghanistan.

How does she feel about civilian deaths over there? She didn’t say a word about that.

JetBoy on February 7, 2010 at 9:02 AM

Since some of you are dumping on Palin for irrelevant matters, I have two things for you about Obama that I’ve noticed all along and was reminded of yesterday while watching clips of his DNC speech yesterday.

First, what’s with Obama’s dropping of the “g’s” after every “-ing” word when speaking before different audiences? Is anyone confusing him for some down-home, folksy, Dem version of Fred Thompson. At least with Palin, you get a consistent, authentic delivery.

Second, what’s with Obama’s fake-jogging body movement every time he advances to someone who’s more than ten feet away or, in particular, every time he goes up steps? It’s kind of like watching NBA players getting introduced before games when they pump their arms and legs feigning that they’re sprinting out to mid-court. It’s clownish and childish. Why can’t Obama walk with the grace and elegance that, say, a Sarah Palin does? Seriously, does Obama think it makes his scrawny a** look more vigorous? He really is a buffoon.

Sarah also made the point that bi-partisanship wasn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Why should we compromise our principles when we know we’re right about something just to agree with a bunch of crooked politicians. We know they’re crooks and only in it for more power not our good or the countries.

I love it. Look who’s obsessed with social issues.

My understanding is that Brown understands that Roe v. Wade is currently the law of the land. How could that change? Congressional legislation? It won’t happen. A reversal of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court? Possible, I suppose. But where’s the case crawling up through the courts? How will the current nine decide?

In the meantime, the battles on abortion lie on the boundaries: the Mexico City policy, federal funding for domestic abortions, conscience exceptions for healthcare providers, and parental consent and parental notification laws. My understanding is that Brown favors the conservative positions on all those. That Brown isn’t introducing legislation to overturn Roe v. Wade doesn’t strike me at all as anti-conservative.

Big tent, baby. Stop being so intolerant.

I am so disheartened that many good and loyal conservatives are buying the lie that Sarah had something written on her hand. This is how leftists work, they can’t answer her speech, so they spread lies. After her Biden debate, the lie was her answers were written on the papers given to her. After the RNC speech, Democrats were responding by saying she didn’t write her own speech. Her resignation speech was totally rubbished altogether etc etc. This is how they work but don’t concede the premise to them as it’s conceding them half-victory. The burden of proof is on them. Just looking at the hand doesn’t prove that something was written on it.

Wasn’t the last question something about 3 things she would do if President? The moderator noted she had 2 minutes left. I also thought Sarah looked like she wanted more than 2 minutes to answer that 3 answer question.

I believe that was what the notes may have been for.

I wouldn’t doubt the questions were screened and she was briefed on them. It’s probably less significant than the notes. Obama does it all the time. He plated supporters in the freaking audience to ask questions.

Another ridiculous and petty attack trying to deflect from a stunningly effective speech attacking Dear Loser.

Mr Purple on February 7, 2010 at 9:20 AM

The Obama teleprompter jokes are funny at first, but then you have to remember how badly Obama beat McCain in all three of those debates. Was he using a teleprompter then? The guy is capable of speaking off the cuff when he has to. Palin has yet to prove she can when she has a national stage.

it’s been over 12 hrs since her speech began, and the only thing that they can come up with is crib notes. Again, just proves that they didn’t watch, didn’t listen if they did watch, or are truly unhinged. I thought it was straightforward, concise, to the point and summed up what the Teaparty movement is all about. It’s not about creating a 3rd political party, and all the beltway politics that come with it.

She isn’t in office, and as far as she says, isn’t planning on running for office. This wasn’t a Palin stump speech to kick off a campaign. She supports the people, and supports the ideals behind them. Bravo, i say, Bravo.

viviliberoomuori on February 7, 2010 at 9:24 AM

The burden of proof is on them. Just looking at the hand doesn’t prove that something was written on it.

Here‘s your proof.

Grow Fins on February 7, 2010 at 9:24 AM

The Obama teleprompter jokes are funny at first, but then you have to remember how badly Obama beat McCain in all three of those debates. Was he using a teleprompter then?

Speedwagon82 on February 7, 2010 at 9:22 AM

No, he was merely doing what he did in his debates with Hillary: “I agree with Senator McCain…Senator McCain is absolutely right…”

ddrintn on February 7, 2010 at 9:25 AM

Unlike the Left, the Right allows it’s members to have a diversity of opinions on social issues.

Go an listen to his press conference after he was sworn in and tell me which side of the fence he’s on.

You crack me up dude. Purity test anyone?

Grow Fins on February 7, 2010 at 9:25 AM

Palin has yet to prove she can when she has a national stage.

Speedwagon82 on February 7, 2010 at 9:22 AM

Proof will come. Patience Grasshopper.

donh525 on February 7, 2010 at 9:26 AM

Well, when she dogs Obama for using a teleprompter and she uses notecards and writes notes on her hand (which she’s clearly reading), then that stinky smell you smell is called hypocrisy.

Grow Fins on February 7, 2010 at 9:23 AM

Can’t tell the difference between notes and having a speech put out for you verbatim? What you smell is idiocy.

Scott Brown is hardly “prominent” and hardly a “true conservative” and BigOldDog made him out to be.

There is a huge difference between using crib notes during a speech and using teleprompters almost every time a person opens his mouth.

There’s your beloved, in quotes, stating that he dictates what our core values are.

That’s the difference between Palin and your messiah. She listens to what people say, he tells them what to think.

I’ll repeat what I said in a previous post. America is superficial and phoney. I watched the video again and Sarah only looked at her hand for a second. Compare this with Obamas teleprompter.

America is headed for financial ruin under Obama and all you can focus on is what was written on Sarah Palins hand.

People accuse Obama of being narcissistic. Narcissism is becoming a national trait of America.

If all you’ve got is “She wrote notes on her hand!”

Then it’s obvious that it was a huge success and you are squirmin’ in your boots.

Great job, Sarah!

bridgetown on February 7, 2010 at 9:40 AM

She had 6 words written on her hand.
Six words. lol. I can only imagine the train wreck Obama would have had if he had 6 words in front of him.

Ya know, most people actually have notes and cue cards in front of them when they give speechs. Shocking, I know.

The Great and All Powerful Obama doesn’t have words written on his hands during speeches. Hm. Maybe he should.
Maybe if he had 5 words written on his hand, he’d get a clue about how to fix the economy.

Seriously, how can anyone not laugh at that? That reminds me of an Olbermann rant. People spitting up blood over some “cheat” then you hear and see what they’re talking about and you walk away laughing because it’s funny.

THAT’S what people are complaining about. Wow.

Buy Danish on February 7, 2010 at 9:32 AM

If you look at the clip of highlights of this thread, between 1:20 and 1:35 we get a shot of her palm. No writing, and no smudge. It’s best played at full screen, like I did. I also watched other clips at full screen and there’s nothing on her palm except skin.

Now, if she ‘wrote the notes during the speech’, the Left would be able to claim such and have ‘evidence’ of her writing at the time. But that would trash a lot of the ‘argument’ about crib notes.

I thought Sarah pulled together the threads that weave Teaparty and GOP today.

That’s actually leadership. She’s doing it much better than any of the other GOP types right now.

AnninCA on February 7, 2010 at 9:43 AM

I am so disheartened that many good and loyal conservatives are buying the lie that Sarah had something written on her hand….
promachus on February 7, 2010 at 9:17 AM

*sigh* A member of the “leave Sarah alone!” contingent of Palin supporters makes a fool of herself by making a transparently idiotic statement. Unfortunately, that foolishness gets reflected onto Palin. With friends like these…
