Video: Jon Stewart impales bloggers
posted at 4:10 pm on February 5, 2010 by Allahpundit
A cute bit which I would have posted even if HA didn’t have a cameo. (Keep an eye out about a third of the way through.) His point about blogger sensationalism is fair — I nodded at it myself two days ago — but go figure that a medium driven by partisan warfare and fierce competition for traffic would favor eye-grabbing headlines rich with violent metaphors. The irony, of course, is that Stewart himself owes no small part of his popularity among the left to his status as some sort of partisan gladiator who can be counted on to make conservative guests squirm. The most famous example was that “Crossfire” segment when he got the better of Tucker Carlson (double irony: his point at the time was that cable news stupidly treats politics as bloodsport) but for a more recent instance look no further than his interview with John Yoo, which so disappointed progressives gathered in the arena to watch a rhetorical disemboweling that Stewart felt obliged to apologize the following night. Note to Yoo: Next time you’re on, turn to the crowd and say, “Are you not entertained?”
Blowback

Why the RINO fascination with Jon Stewart?
uknowmorethanme on February 5, 2010 at 4:13 PM
Geez if only Stewart had something else to make fun of, like oh I don’t know, a politician saying “corpseman” for example.
Bishop on February 5, 2010 at 4:15 PM
Wait a minute.
Are we really giving Jon Stewart credit for calling bloggers out on blowing stuff out of proportion?
Jon Stewart?
Thune on February 5, 2010 at 4:16 PM
Allah, I don’t think HA readers care about JS as much as you do. Just sayin’.
visions on February 5, 2010 at 4:17 PM
More often than not (exception: Jonah Goldberg), he’s very deferential to his conservative guests.
YYZ on February 5, 2010 at 4:18 PM
I don’t particularly “care” about him either, but I thought the clip would amuse.
If you’re not interested, you don’t need to watch the clip or comment.
Allahpundit on February 5, 2010 at 4:18 PM
Nice move with the title.
Black Yoshi on February 5, 2010 at 4:18 PM
I’m sick of Jon Stewart. And I’m sick of people putting him on some sort of pedestal as if he knows everything and what is right or wrong. He’s a lame comedian.
cubachi on February 5, 2010 at 4:19 PM
Well, with the demise of MSDNC and the irrelevancy of CNN, he’s effectively the #1 left-wing commentator on TV. I personally don’t give a rat’s you-know-what about him, but I get the fascination by some.
Doughboy on February 5, 2010 at 4:20 PM
“John Stewart impales bloggers”
lol.
nice ribbing there, AP.
Or was that a violent evisceration?

Looks like she chose the Burge, AP…

There’s only one thing Rachel Maddow eviscerates.
SouthernGent on February 5, 2010 at 4:20 PM
AP- I thought it was an appropriate post and, yes, it was quite amusing.
/No, I’m not a FCINO

The only political pundit Jon Stewart seems to approve is Jon Stewart.
clearbluesky on February 5, 2010 at 4:21 PM
“You lie.”
Extrafishy on February 5, 2010 at 4:21 PM
You are supposed to say, “Are you not entertained?”
And, yes, it was entertaining. The very last line was funny.
WashJeff on February 5, 2010 at 4:22 PM
Except a lone Huffpost blogger, apparently.
Sixth Guard on February 5, 2010 at 4:22 PM
John Stewart, news commentator of Comedy Central. That’s a step above being news commentator of the Home Shopping Network.

Cable news, at least some of it, does the same thing. They had some agressive headlines and tags about O’Reilly v. Stewart.

upinak on February 5, 2010 at 4:30 PM
Good thing O’Reilly and Stewart are on two different stations, there wouldn’t be enough room for the two egos for very long.
fourdeucer on February 5, 2010 at 4:30 PM
I like Stewart. He’s the first comedian who joked about Obama, telling his audience, “It’s OK to laugh at the guy.”
He calls em’ like he sees em’.
I don’t always agree with how he sees “em’.”
But he does follow that path.
And I still think his joke about being reduced to lighting the menorrah at the WH was hilarious.
AnninCA on February 5, 2010 at 4:31 PM
Why do Jon Stewart even get a mention on HotAir?
Note to Allah: Nobody here cares about Stewart. He is irrelevant.
Norwegian on February 5, 2010 at 4:33 PM
I didn’t think Stewart was particularly impressive on BOR last night. He isn’t worried about Iran with a nuke ’cause Pakistan has them too and hasn’t used them yet. WTH?
a capella on February 5, 2010 at 4:33 PM
AP–this is effing gold and I totally agree with Jonny S on this one. The verbage used in some titles is notably so over the top and Stewart does a helluva job showing how outrageous some of it is.
Stewart: +5
ted c on February 5, 2010 at 4:34 PM
Sorry, I thought the piece was funny. Lately Stewart has been trying to go more down the middle of the road, it appears to me, taking both sides to task on issues.
I am not a regular viewer of his show, so I really can’t say if his show has changed recently, I just base it off of the video clips that pop up that are used by both sides of the political spectrum to eviscerate and totally annihilate each other.
Just A Grunt on February 5, 2010 at 4:34 PM
Mehheh!
ronsfi on February 5, 2010 at 4:34 PM
Wait a sec. Isn’t this what the Press does every day with Palin vs. Rush, Hannity vs. Beck, Palin vs. McCain, Brown vs. Rush, etc. ect.? In fact the entire “Republican civil war” is basically the very “reality” Stewart is bringing out here. Is he just pissed ’cause he’s on the receiving end?
Weight of Glory on February 5, 2010 at 4:34 PM
He sucks
I will never forgive him for his disrespectful treatment of Tony Blair on his show
Sonosam on February 5, 2010 at 4:35 PM
Is an “impaling” a near miss “evisceration?”
ted c on February 5, 2010 at 4:36 PM
“Some say we should impale poor people without health care..”

Idiot~he’s trying to placate his one brain cell audience after his interview with BOR.
HornetSting on February 5, 2010 at 4:39 PM
I find it humorous that the posts that some people seem to hate the most get the most response from said people.
Be glad that HA is not a mindless echo chamber…er, most days. Leave that for Daily KoS and the DU trash.
Asher on February 5, 2010 at 4:39 PM
After the 8th clip showing how Stewart slammed, eviscerated, demolished, or otherwise bested his opponents, I began having flashbacks to Bill O’Reilly reiterating how high his ratings are to every single guest in every single segment of his show.
Lily on February 5, 2010 at 4:40 PM
Jon Stewart took the first risk in making a joke about “the One.”
LOL*
He actually had to say to his audience, “It’s OK to laugh.”
That’s bold, people.
And he dared to show up to Bill O.’s show. That’s another bold move.
Bill was especially nice, of course.
He always is to the liberal guests.
AnninCA on February 5, 2010 at 4:41 PM
JS has a superficial understanding of things-AT BEST.
I will give him credit in that he actually tried to make fun of obama long before the honeymoon was over.
Hard Right on February 5, 2010 at 4:41 PM
I think we should eat them. We could end hunger and poverty in one fell swoop, er, gulp.

Proof that New Media is gaining ground while Print Media dies a slow death.
I’m still not a huge TDS fan, but that’s a personal issue and why I don’t watch.
vai2112 on February 5, 2010 at 4:42 PM
JS: rare risk-taker, but dumb quote maker.
Dark-Star on February 5, 2010 at 4:42 PM
I don’t watch his show, except for these clips–but Stewart is certainly not irrelevant. This guy, I think, is on a rocket ride to some stardom. As far as his angle on things, I really don’t agree with him–but some of his comedy is really good. He’s awfully influential and his maneuvering to go see BOR and do these middle of the road clips is proof positive that he can appeal to both sides.
ted c on February 5, 2010 at 4:42 PM
Please, please please don’t change your style of doing the headlines on the blog or the HotAir headlines. You should win some kind literary prize for some of the things you come up with. I am not trying to feed your ego but it’s a talent and I have read things I would probably have ignored without them. I am glad Mr. Stewart enjoys exaggeration since he is a master at almost every level.
Cindy Munford on February 5, 2010 at 4:43 PM
Allah’s hairless cats are fans.
HornetSting on February 5, 2010 at 4:43 PM
Actually, I never watch his show. I only see his stuff on u-tube on blogs.
How about you?
AnninCA on February 5, 2010 at 4:43 PM
Stewart should be eviscerated.
csdeven on February 5, 2010 at 4:44 PM
You needed Jon Stewart to tell you it was okay to laugh at obama, Ann?
HornetSting on February 5, 2010 at 4:45 PM
It sounds like the Rachel Maddow’s victims, alone, would feed a small village.

While I rarely watch Jon Stewart, I saw this bit last night. Allahpundit, reading your title… you eviscerate me.
Jens on February 5, 2010 at 4:46 PM
What’s really funny about this bit from Stewart is about AH. She was SO upset over Ailes’s nailing her on Meet the Press over her ridiculous slant on her blog.
I mean, she’s still on the warpath.
But he was right. Everyone knows it. And Stewart, a liberal, just also nailed her for it.
AH is about to face the proverbial “dillemma.”
Remain relevant on-TV?
Keep your crazy successful blog?
We will all tune into watch her decision.
AnninCA on February 5, 2010 at 4:47 PM
BillO actually does that ? On air ?
The last time I saw his show it was like
‘Inside edition’ , nothing creative
(I don’t watch him because he has that racist hatemonger on his show.)
macncheez on February 5, 2010 at 4:48 PM
Nope. I thought the Dem primary was a sick joke, actually.
AnninCA on February 5, 2010 at 4:48 PM
By the way, if you haven’t seen the movie “The Gods Must Be Crazy”, do yourself a favor and rent it.
Hysterical.
ladyingray on February 5, 2010 at 4:48 PM
This from a guy who proves conclusively that most liberals aren’t evil, but the liberalism that infects them, is.
Speakup on February 5, 2010 at 4:48 PM
Well, the comment about “if he did it on MS-NBC, there would be no witnesses” was just freakin’ funny :)
…because it’s probably true.
Wanderlust on February 5, 2010 at 4:48 PM
I get my news from Fox. I never watch John Stewart except on blogs.
ladyingray on February 5, 2010 at 4:49 PM
Today’s big story about Palin on AH’s blog is from Mudflats, the same blog that has churned out endless stories that turn out to be false.
Now, what’s really intersting? This blog also “clicks” those blog stories.
No real journalism needed.
Just anything to smear Palin.
AnninCA on February 5, 2010 at 4:50 PM
LOLOLOL.

The whole election was a sick joke, Ann.
Our two-party blindness really bit us; the Big Two gave us a half-senile codger and a slick-talking screwup to pick from. And like idiots, we picked.

SgtRed on February 5, 2010 at 4:54 PM
Lately he has been insufferable. He does this constantly. I can only take so much of him blowing his own horn before I shut the T.V. off. So I get through about 1/2 a show before I quit.

Another Jon Stewart post. I didn’t expect it at all.

I would complain about that, but I can see that I will only be directed to not watch or read it.
Allah’s posts are mildly interesting to me, but the Palin & Stewart & abortion gig gets old for me.
I will say on occassion he gets me interested.
But Ed gives me more meat with potatoes.

If you want to read a blog where all posts and comments sing and step in regimented unison, I suggest taking a trip over to the swamp known as little green footballs.
At the end of the day, it’s not your blog and frankly, no one gives a shit what you think.
The clip is funny. If you don’t like it, just STFU.
You-Eh-Vee on February 5, 2010 at 5:17 PM
My last words on this subject:
I think that the media needs to discuss why Rahm thinks it’s professional in the workplace to cuss at & insult people working with him.
I have had this happen to me before in the workplace & there is no need for it.
I should not have to worry about my boss using profanity violently to get a point across.
It is disgusting behavior.
Badger40 on February 5, 2010 at 5:18 PM
