Report: NYT ready to drop scandal bombshell on New York governor
posted at 6:42 pm on February 5, 2010 by Allahpundit
HuffPo’s got all the links you need pointing to a sex scandal, which makes the deja vu here doubly intense. (Paterson copped to infidelity on practically his first day on the job, but the rumors have picked up again lately.) The story’s not that politically interesting on the surface. Paterson’s headed for an unholy beating by Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary if he’s dumb enough to run again, so the only major fallout from this will be to convince him not to. But that presents the question: Could the story have been leaked to the Times by Democrats anxious about a primary fight that might weaken Cuomo in a tough November political climate? Come to think of it, wasn’t the White House reportedly leaning on Paterson to retire months ago? Hmmmmm. Watch your back, Deval Patrick!
The Albany Times-Union has the story of the non-story:
The last few weeks have brought two major eruptions of rumors concerning Paterson’s private life: reports of nuzzling at a New Jersey restaurant and being caught in semi-flagrante in a utility closet in the Governor’s Mansion — stories that Paterson and his press office have vehemently denied.
According to sources who have actually been interviewed for the Times’ story, its central narrative is the role played by members of Paterson’s inner circle in his personal and political activities.
Rumors about a possibly publication date for the story have ranged from Monday to today; the latest suggests Sunday, but it’s hard to believe that the Times would hold the story much longer when knowledge that it’s pending has put every other reporter in the Capitol and elsewhere on the scent. Possible reasons for delay include editorial fine-tuning and thorough legal review.
Rumors range from the sensational to more mundane abuse-of-power stuff involving state troopers who know too much about shenanigans at the governor’s mansion. My only non-deep thought about this is that I wonder to what extent the Times-Union and Daily News are feeling emboldened to speculate by the Enquirer’s success with the John Edwards expose. Respectable papers don’t want to drop the ball on the next political mega-scandal, so we’re probably going to see more risk-taking with speculation until, inevitably, some big rumored scandal story fails to materialize and everyone is chastened anew. Here’s to relearning lessons!

BTW, how does Paterson get all these women? Do women like blind guys or is it the fact blind guys don’t have to worry about ugly faces?

This is like natural selection. A mother (insert your own anmial) eats her young because they are weak and will not survive.
The best part is it is Blue on Blue natural selection. This stuff needs to be on NatGeo.

He should run anyway. He’s much more tolerable than Andrew Cuomo, which is probably why the New York Times is going after him.

Or, the national Dem Party out to trash someone who refused to toe their line. If it’s OK for a Dem prez to get a BJ from some chick (as NOW has approved), then this is small beans. Unless the national Dem Party decides otherwise.
It’s OK to have a klucker recruiter to hold a Senate seat, long as he votes as wanted. But if a Dem dares speak against the Anointed One, it’s time for revenge.
I’m no fan of any Dem. This event is telling, as I see.

Cut my taxes, cut spending, stop expanding the nanny state and you can screw 12 women every night for all I care. About as non-important a scandal as there ever was.
At least his predecesor was “scandalous” cuz he was doing hookers which is technically illegal. But if Patterson is just fooling around, and she is (they are) over 18 and consenting….YAWN.

First of all, don’t make me laugh with that “respectable papers” comment. Secondly, it probably has more to do with the paper toting water for the white house and burying this guy. The W0N can’t afford for this tool to win the primary and lose in the general to a republican.

The NYT never drops bombs on Dems, unless a Dem walked off the liberal plantation.
If this scandal was being pushed by the Right, the Times would be all-out to call it partisanship, racism (Paterson is black), hypocrisy, and everything else. Instead, the Times is ‘outing’ him.
Paterson criticized Obowmao. A sin! So now the Times is dropping a bombshell on a life-long Dem when it never would otherwise. Telling, don’t you think?
Liam on February 5, 2010 at 7:19 PM

It’s the Chicago way.
rbj on February 5, 2010 at 7:29 PM
The dirty little secret is that the white Democrats are scared to death about black Democrats leaving the fields and knocking to be let in the house.
They ( white Dems ) cultivated Obama for years so that their black constituency would be satisfied with a semi-black person on top and wouldn’t insist on moving in on the white Democrat power structure. If black Democrats figure this out, that is it for the white Democrat, and good riddance.
It’s black people who are the rightful owners of the power in their party, and Republicans should help them to realize that because it’s disgusting to watch these white Democrat racists stealing the power from where it rightly belongs. It’s outrageous that there aren’t at least a dozen black Democrat senators right now.

They gave Clinton a pass, when they used to call his thing ‘sexual harassment’.
So, NOW is set up to approve all BJs given in Office, even if they’re not the ones giving them.
“I’m Bill Clinton, and NOW has approved my getting a BJ as well as this message. And a massage, too!”

I thought the Dems were the anti-war party? This is not going to go over well with Code Pink!
I for one love the blue on blue violence. But when is this traveling show going to move up to IL? Seriously, the Dem running for governor had a hooker for a girlfriend and was arrested for holding a knife to her throat.
Does it look like the Dems are recruiting candidates from prison?

Live boy or dead girl.
Goes back to former La. Governor Edwin Edwards (a Dem, naturally) back in 1983 when he said the only way he could lose the election was to be discovered with a live boy or dead girl in his bed.
Times have changed…neither today would be a disqualifier it seems.

This is revenge, for Paterson’s rising up against the Man (namely, Obama).
After all, all politicians fool around, don’t they? (ask Clinton and NOW) So it’s not THAT bad, is it? /sarc

UncleOlaf on February 5, 2010 at 7:47 PM
I know, all too sadly well.
I just see this whole thing about Paterson to be revenge, by DEMS, against a guy who strayed from the liberal plantation. He’s bad for us (I live in Buffalo), but that never otherwise would make Dems want to dump him.
Something more is going on, from the Dem side. If Pubs brought all this out, it would be all over the MSM that ‘bigoted’ Pubs were out to ‘get’ him.
