Video: Planned Parenthood responds to Tim Tebow ad by “honoring family” or something
posted at 4:45 pm on February 4, 2010 by Allahpundit
Via Media Blog, a web-only salute to the empowering freedom to purge yourself of the inconvenience within. Two oddities here. First, we’re not precisely sure what it’s responding to: No one’s seen the Tebow ad yet, so no one knows if he’s going to attack abortion rights or merely urge women to choose life. (Sounds like it’s the latter.) Second, what’s with the spokesmen? There were no women athletes willing and able to step up for PP to counter the appearance by Tebow’s mom? Maybe they thought a men-only ad would be more likely to appeal to male football fans or maybe they wanted to make the point that there are plenty of male pro-choicers too, but it’s strange listening to Al Joyner celebrate his little girl’s right to choose knowing that Joyner himself had no right to choose whether that same little girl was carried to term.
Exit question: In the vast galaxy of liberal athletes, these were the highest-profile guys that PP could get? Even among retirees? Jordan? Barkley? Bill Bradley? Hello?

Sounds like you’re making the best of a not-ideal situation, Badger…good for you and your daughter. Most of all, however, good for your grandbaby.

LOL, in what universe?
RushBaby on February 4, 2010 at 5:23 PM
Well, all through the 1800′s the Census form asked whether any idiotic people lived in the household. One wonders how that one was answered.
unclesmrgol on February 4, 2010 at 5:23 PM
Would someone explain to the libs who support abortion that they are decreasing the tax base. They’ve murdered 50million potential taxpayers since Roe v Wade. Just another one of their unintended consequences. There is an alternative to PP and it’s called Care Net Pregnancy Centers. They provide prenatal care and advice for pregnant women. It is a faith based organization. They are growing across the country.
Kissmygrits on February 4, 2010 at 5:23 PM
Retard, moron, idiot or any other word that alludes to someone being a dumb-as$. I hate PC junk. Some people that are in this world are just retards, idiots, or morons. If you have a mental defect that is biological in nature then you are mentally handicapped or some other nice word of your choosing. If you tried to jump your bike over a house while being pulled by a van and run into the side of the house instead you are a retard, idiot or moron.
txaggie on February 4, 2010 at 5:23 PM
Oh, that “r” word. As in AARP.
unclesmrgol on February 4, 2010 at 5:24 PM
Considering that one of the most recent attacks was against a pro-lifer, you might want to drop this line.
The truth is that they know how distasteful it is to actually praise abortion, and that’s why they won’t do it. That’s why they pretend it’s all about choice, even while screaming that someone else might be praising their choice.
Esthier on February 4, 2010 at 5:25 PM
How about backing off and reading before you jump.
You know.. taking a gander at what else is going on. Thanks!

But now we’ve grown up, evolved, and know better. Right? Right? RIGHT????? Apparently not!
Knowledge is power. Got get yourself some.
So…is the State Department asserting their right to choose, when they ran down Jim Treacher?
capejasmine on February 4, 2010 at 5:26 PM
Wouldn’t that be a use of the “g” word?
unclesmrgol on February 4, 2010 at 5:26 PM
Going through 9-10 months of pregnancy for some women is like a death sentence.
It boggles my mind that there are such selfish & evil women out there who kill their unborn bcs it’s inconvenient.
But for those who have been misled & cajoled into thinknig they are not really killing a person, your argument is golden.
Think of all the potential people we will never see.
And as my argument yesterday on another Tebow-related thread explained, for the heartless people, consider what we are doing to our gene pool: we are decreasing our genetic diversity that helps us survive as a species by aborting our unborn.
What happens someday when the human species comes up against a plague that could have been fought off by genes of the aborted?
Badger40 on February 4, 2010 at 5:27 PM
giddy up, damnity!
upinak on February 4, 2010 at 5:28 PM
Hard to argue with any of that.
Esthier on February 4, 2010 at 5:29 PM
I have come across that repeatedly in my census work.
Some cousin brothers of mine were listed in the 1870 & 1880 censuses as idiots.
They were deaf mutes, so the family story goes.
They went on to marry & have children.
Badger40 on February 4, 2010 at 5:29 PM
I know a G-word. But it’s dirty & using it here may offend some & excite others.
Badger40 on February 4, 2010 at 5:30 PM
Really?
If we were to completely drop PC, we could refer to the fact that many mentally retarded are ‘mutants’ as their DNA is damaged (mutated) in a way that causes them to be a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
But you’ll see THAT happen the same day Satan takes ice-skating lessons.

Despite the circumstances, I am eager to welcome my 1st grandchild into the world, even if it’s father is a moron & I’m only 40.”
Badger40 on February 4, 2010 at 4:59 PM
You’re right, my friend. We love these little ones no matter how they come into the world. It’s not their fault their Daddy’s a putz. Your daughter has a wonderful opportunity to make this little one’s life beautiful and special, in spite of how it all began.
Pilgrimsarbour on February 4, 2010 at 5:33 PM
And I meant to add, so do you.
Pilgrimsarbour on February 4, 2010 at 5:33 PM
Our gene pool is already changing due to the types of genetic diseases whose symptoms we can successfully treat. Those genes, which when expressed would be killers, aren’t any more, and those with these killer genes pass them on.
In a few generations (or less), we will be able to design humans, and those will be far smarter, healthier, and long-lived than we are. The aforementioned problems with killer genes will be treatable, and gone.
unclesmrgol on February 4, 2010 at 5:33 PM
That’s a bit beyond non PC and more into the realm of insulting.
Esthier on February 4, 2010 at 5:34 PM
So they agree that every female has the right to do what they want with their body…okay, so the female baby in the womb decides that the mom has to die instead of her?
I think we need an advocacy group to speak for the fetus…if the mom is a drugged out, uneducated person, then they are not worth as much as the potential in her body.
Pro-Choice…we choose the potential over the loser….
right2bright on February 4, 2010 at 5:36 PM
The other question was whether they were imbeciles. I think “retarded” was invented as a nice way to address the “i” word.
When the “r” word is no longer correct, someone will invent a “pc” word to replace it, and that word will become, at some point later, non-pc.
unclesmrgol on February 4, 2010 at 5:36 PM
That wouldn’t work with my brother, may he rest in peace. He was struck on the head with a horseshoe while still in diapers, and never quite recovered.
unclesmrgol on February 4, 2010 at 5:37 PM
Yeah, but can you arrange one for 2012?
nico on February 4, 2010 at 5:38 PM
rly?
RushBaby on February 4, 2010 at 5:38 PM
Not really; it’s a factual, medically-based definition that’s ‘insulting’ by virtue of being unflattering if not heavily sugarcoated.
But even so, I won’t be aggressively pushing for that level of PC-removal. Sometimes it really is better to varnish the truth a little for the sake of harmony, if it can be done without too much distortion.
Dark-Star on February 4, 2010 at 5:39 PM
Sure, that’s the evolution of language. But ultimately, words mean what we decide they mean. I could make up a word and say it’s an insult for black people, but unless it actually gets picked up, no black person will actually be offended.
Only bother caring about the connotation of your words if you care about the people hearing them.
Esthier on February 4, 2010 at 5:39 PM
Agreed. We will never what could have been of the people that were denied access to this world. We could have terminated the life of someone that would have solved our energy problems. We could have also terminated the life of someone the turned out to be the worst of all evils. In my humble opinion, choosing life is worth the risk.
You and your family will be in our prayers as well. The road is long and hard, but the joy you will receive in return is worth the struggle.
Do not hesitate to spoil that grandchild!
rukiddingme on February 4, 2010 at 5:39 PM
And thus why I said ‘many’, not ‘all’. There are certainly exceptions to the rule.
And even having corrupted life-code isn’t a guarantee of mental retardation; I knew one grown man with Down’s who was able to live a pretty normal life.
Dark-Star on February 4, 2010 at 5:40 PM
I look forward to the day when one can ‘mod’ one’s own body with a decent degree of safety. An extra set of arms would be wonderful for tech-work.

tomas on February 4, 2010 at 5:43 PM
How desperate is the abortion industry? They HAVE to respond…they cannot allow the message of life to stand alone. They MUST push their message no matter what.
How jarring seeing two black men shilling for the industry founded on killing off their race.
ihasurnominashun on February 4, 2010 at 5:43 PM
This is pathetic.
This is the best they could do?
Must suck to be them…
Haiku Guy on February 4, 2010 at 5:43 PM
The problem is that killing your child is not a courageous choice and should not be looked at with the same respect as not killing your child.
Everyone knows this, even if they’re “pro-choice.”
Of course, there are the utilitarian pro-aborts who believe that everyone should have an abortion unless they’re 32, married, and have no other children. I guess in their minds abortion is a choice to be praised.
Vera on February 4, 2010 at 5:44 PM
You bring up a good point, but you cannot argue that the word retard has negative connotations. It wasn’t always like that, but now, thanks to the PC junk, it is a reality. These kids have been told that retard is an insult since they were young and be offended if someone uses it. This is the same reason I would never call a black guy a n-something. That is my point.
txaggie on February 4, 2010 at 5:45 PM
I will say this though. At least they’ve stopped screaching. I guess someone realized that yelling someone’s choice to continue her pregnancy didn’t exactly make them look pro-choice.
Vera on February 4, 2010 at 5:46 PM
The history and usage of the n-word is a whole ‘nother ball of wax based on hatred and ignorance, not medical fact. Nevertheless, your argument still has some validity.
Dark-Star on February 4, 2010 at 5:47 PM
Handicapped… I thought they changed it to handi-capable !
Jeff2161 on February 4, 2010 at 5:47 PM
A sandwich short of a picnic is a medical term now? You were attempting to be insulting.
I could call you a meatbag, and though it would be technically accurate, it’s still a stupid insult.
Esthier on February 4, 2010 at 5:47 PM
Call me crazy, but that sounds a lot like Gattaca.
Vera on February 4, 2010 at 5:48 PM
If “every woman were valued and respected” then there would be no abortions. What a disgrace.
CynicalOptimist on February 4, 2010 at 5:48 PM
Rereshing viewpoint- I like it–unfortuately it’s usually NOT the crackheads and total losers that are exercising their pro-choice option to abort- the more fetuses, the bigger the welfare check and that means more crack for mama…
huskerdiva on February 4, 2010 at 5:50 PM
Would you call him a DNA mutant or retard to his face? How about behind his back, or when discussing him to others?
If you did this:
would that not make you a mutant?
rukiddingme on February 4, 2010 at 5:50 PM
Maybe Tiger Woods would be willing to do a PSA about he has all his mistresses have abortions.
malclave on February 4, 2010 at 5:53 PM
Wow, they are a subdued pair. Why not breathe some life into the production? A pro abortion rap with zingers like “there aint no monday mornin quarterbackin with abortin” or “sack the amniotic sac!” or “he is hoping to catch that baby in a hail Mary pass!….Look out!interception!!!!”.
BL@KBIRD on February 4, 2010 at 5:54 PM
Evolution is a series of mutations that improve survivability of a species. Discriminating used to be a compliment ie, discriminating taste in fashion or music.
Jeff2161 on February 4, 2010 at 5:54 PM
John Edwards would be even better. “If only she’d aborted it!”
Esthier on February 4, 2010 at 5:55 PM
True, but the woman must value and respect herself!- it’s not totally dependant on others valuing and respecting women.
huskerdiva on February 4, 2010 at 5:55 PM
I could call you a meatbag, and
though it would be technically accurate,it’s still a stupid insult from an raving wingnut.Esthier on February 4, 2010 at 5:47 PM
FTFY.
Only when discussing the condition itself. It’s all how you say it; even a fact can be an insult when misused.
Not quite, but very close. Intentionally changing one’s DNA isn’t the same as suffering a random ‘hiccup’ generated by whatever reason, which nearly always result in very bad conditions.
Sort of like the difference between a random ‘bug’ that crashes a computer program, and adding in code that makes it able to do something new.
Dark-Star on February 4, 2010 at 5:56 PM
Given PP’s history, nyone else think it’s not a coincidence they didn’t use any white guys?
RightWinged on February 4, 2010 at 5:57 PM
Of course you are right, but it is a start…and it exercises “choice”.
Let their “choice” become a real choice and let them live with if for awhile.
Liberals choose paths that destroy, but they ignore the destruction.
right2bright on February 4, 2010 at 5:57 PM
–It’s not my daughter’s. It’s Badger’s, but I’m sure he appreciates the kind offer:
“I know a lot of men who have no problems with abortion.
My daughter is knocked up by a putz & that was the 1st thing out of his mouth: ABORT IT.
My daughter was horrified & is due the end of Feb.
The putz still on occassion blames her by lamenting that it was her fault she got pregnant & that she should have taken the morning after pill.
It takes 2 idiots to get pregnant-not one.
Both my 21yo daughter & the putz are at fault for this one.
My daughter is bucking up & taking responsibility for her actions. He evidently isn’t.
Course, when a baby is growing inside you, it is a difficult decision to kill it for selfish reasons.
So while my daughter is an idiot for getting pregnant out of wedlock, I am proud she chose to do the right thing.
Despite the circumstances, I am eager to welcome my 1st grandchild into the world, even if it’s father is a moron & I’m only 40.

Jimbo3 on February 4, 2010 at 6:01 PM
–I don’t know, Esthier. I think they figure why take the chance of being a target of some sort. Don’t you think some pro-lifers might harass them in some way or try to get them fired or start a boycott?
Jimbo3 on February 4, 2010 at 6:04 PM
Well, that’s just retarded !
Jeff2161 on February 4, 2010 at 6:04 PM
Jimbo, congratulations on your first grandchild. Sadly, the story you tell about your daughter’s boyfriend is all to common. You daughter was strong to stand up to that pressure, but many young women aren’t. That’s why pro-lifers say that abortion is not often a “choice” at all, but something that women are pressured into.
Also, your comment that “I am proud she chose to do the right thing.” illustrates the point I was making that the two choices just aren’t equal, as much as PP may pretend they are. There is a right choice, and killing isn’t it.
Oh and one more thing. If you’re a 40 year old grandpa, it seems you were probably involved in some youthful “indiscretion” as well. Hopefully you were better to your daughter’s mother than this putz was to your daughter.
Vera on February 4, 2010 at 6:04 PM
Understand your point, context does have meaning, but still not convinced you would say it to his face. He knows he is different. He does not have to be labeled in any way to know it.
Agreed.
Agreed. If this ever comes to fruition, proceed with caution. Even good intentions can result in a bad outcome.

You mean the way Tedbow and his mother are currently being harassed by all sorts of groups who haven’t even seen the video yet?
Abortion doctors have been killed, but I haven’t heard of a single pro-choicer being murdered. I have however, heard of a pro-lifer being shot to death.

I know badger40 welcoming a grandchild. Bless her and her family. She is going to help raise her grandchild.
My address to you was in reference to a comment you made in another thread. You said something along the line of: “if you found out your daughter was pregnant, you would advise her to abort, and you would pay for the abortion”. I will find the thread, but you remember saying this, no?
The offer was to you, for you. It still stands if your daughter ever finds herself in this situation. Instead of aborting, call my wife and I. We will gladly adopt.

Define irony. Two African-American men making an ad for an organization that was originally designed to “weed” them out. Margaret Sanger founded the “Negro Project,” a study and theory in eugenics to eliminate socially undesirable people, including blacks and Jews. Many in the black community today are educating themselves about this. It appears these two gentleman are not and perhaps that is one of the reasons they could not find anyone else for their ad.

I am attempting to find words to describe the ad. “Weak”, “meandering”, “beat-around-the-bush” come to mind.
“We respect and honor family – so let’s make sure we don’t have one unless we specifically plan to.”
This ad is right up Jimbo’s alley, hearth, home, and a fountain of blood in a medical disposal unit.

The Ugly American on February 4, 2010 at 7:32 PM
How about a little lesson in facts for all you pro-lifers out there who are stiched up with laughter cramps over the “retard” jokes/one-liners.
90% of babies diagnosed in-utero with DS are aborted. Between the original slam from Rahm through all the coverage and commentary I’m sure that figure will climb even higher.
For all those “high functioners” out there with the supposed gift of humor and wit, the ongoing slams of people with developmental disabilities makes you look little. Get a grip on yourselves and use your own God given brain power in a way that flatters yourselves.

Good one! This is all so bizarre to me. They haven’t even seen what they are already so outraged about.
The good news is they are spending lots of money to have this mixture of silliness, weirdness, and depravity aired during the Superbowl- money that might otherwise be used to peddle abortions to young gals.
NTWR on February 4, 2010 at 8:04 PM
That’s right. Which is why that ad didn’t mention killing a child or even used the word “abortion.”
Instead the ad used the most ridiculous euphemisms of “family” and “women’s health.” If someone was only half paying attention, they wouldn’t even know what the point of the ad was.
And watching that man talk about hoping his “little girl” could have an abortion one day if she wanted it made me sick.

–Rukiddingme, I do appreciate the offer as well. If it ever comes to this, I’ll counsel my daughter to seriously choose it.
Jimbo3 on February 4, 2010 at 9:30 PM
–
-Is anyone calling them up and threatening them? I’m not sure leaning on CBS to not air the ad is harassment. And based on some of the comments here yesterday, people think it was just fine that the receptionist and security guard at abortion clinics were killed. So it’s been more than just abortion doctors that have been killed.
–I dunno. I still think that there is a real good chance that one or more “radical” pro-life groups might harrass someone who made an ad saying she had an abortion and that t was the best choice in the circumstances. Don’t you think there’s at least several groups who would likely send letters/make phone calls/stalk that person, given some of the things some of the “radical” pro-life groups have done in the past? And I wouldn’t be surprised if at least out there might get so upset that s/he’d want to take a shot at that person.
–If you think I’m wrong, please let me know.
Jimbo3 on February 4, 2010 at 9:39 PM
…
–Yeah, I agree. But I suggest not saying it in quite those words anymore.
Jimbo3 on February 4, 2010 at 9:42 PM
Wow…just saw the ad…and “only women know what’s best” for them? Really?? I so don’t agree. Only God knows what’s best for all of us. When we as women (yes I am) take it into our own hands to decide life or no life..we take on the role of God..big mistake. And excuse me, men SHOULD have a say when a child they helped to conceive is in the crosshairs. Law can try and argue that it’s a woman’s body..but wasn’t it the man’s sperm that helped to create the life?? 50/50? Without one there would not be the other?? 50/50. Women, instead of being twisted up inside about this…think, plan, marry. Don’t succumb to what “Hollywood” society thinks is okay. It’s not okay. Life if just that..life. Abortion is death.
Wileygrl3 on February 4, 2010 at 9:59 PM
Yes, Jimbo, I think you’re wrong.
Ms. Magazine ran a promo a few years ago that was called “I had an abortion.” Basically, random people and a few celebrities signed their names to a petition stating that they had had abortions in order to “reduce stigma” or something.
Yes, pro-lifers noted a few of the celebrities, and maybe a few said “I’m not going to see anything she’s in!”
No one threatened any of the women and certainly no one actually tried to harm them.
So basically, your full of crap.
Vera on February 4, 2010 at 10:23 PM
Which is incredibly frustrating.
SouthernGent on February 4, 2010 at 10:29 PM
Dayum. That commercial is an abortion.
hillbillyjim on February 4, 2010 at 11:06 PM
The guy who killed Tiller really doesn’t come across as “deranged”. In his mind, the babies that haven’t been aborted since “the incident” are lives he has saved. Innocent little lives, saved from a horrible death. Sorry, dude, but agree or disagree, this is a morally defensible position.
Me personally, I’ll try to convince people with words, and prayer. And I refuse to call people like you (those who pretend to be “pro-choice”, as long as the “choice” is abortion) “deranged”, or “baby-killers”. Okay, I promise to TRY not to.
Squiggy on February 5, 2010 at 6:41 AM
Great points! Also no mention of the story during the last year or so, about recorded phone calls to PP offices from “donors” wanting their money to go specifically for aborting black babies. The KKK must really admire PP for what they’ve done to reduce the black population during the 20th century.
TugboatPhil on February 5, 2010 at 8:20 AM
