Video: Obama salutes Navy “corpse-man”
posted at 5:20 pm on February 4, 2010 by Allahpundit
A ticky-tack mistake, but then so was Bush’s pronunciation of “nuclear” and the left had fun with that. As always with this sort of gaffe, it resonates to the extent that it appears to confirm a suspicion about the person that uttered it. Bush was supposedly a dummy, ergo “nu-cu-lar” caught on; Martha Coakley was out of touch with voters, ergo the Curt Schilling thing had legs; The One is a dovish Ivory Tower egghead with no military background, ergo we’ve gotten half a dozen e-mails about this in the past few hours. Look on the bright side, though: At least he’s trying.
I can’t believe that a guy with a Harvard Law degree wouldn’t know how to pronounce “corps,” so I’m guessing some dumb staffer in charge of TOTUS decided to try to “help him out” by typing the phonetic pronunciation — incorrectly — into the machine. And in true Ron Burgundy fashion, O read it as is right off the ‘prompter. You stay classy, Navy corpse-men! Click the image to watch.

Sorry if already posted…..
Rush covered this today and said that he was informed that “Harvard” people pronounce the word Corps as “Corpse”.
Me:
Not like the rest of us dirty stinking schmeeple that you can actually smell when we visit OUR House in DC. Good lawd we stink so bad even Harry Reid can smell our foul odor. We are the slimy dwellers who inhabit the elitist world of DC know that when you use phrases like, “The Army Corps of Engineers” we pronounce the word Corps as “core”.
Keep it coming Slowbama Dems. Keep it coming.

ROFLMAO! How true.

Reminds me of a time in summer 1988 I was at Marine Corps OCS in Quantico VA and someone had fallen out on a rifle run. This female officer candidate was calling for a corpse man. Oh man did she get it from the platoon commander. Hilarious.

Obama…certainly not smarter than a Fifth Grader.

Are you saying that the President of the US should have some knowledge of US History? Hmm, it’s just so crazy it might work.
chimney sweep on February 4, 2010 at 5:44 PM
aka suckers. That pretty much sums up all those kool aid drinkers who think life is going to be just grand under Obama. LOL
capejasmine on February 4, 2010 at 5:45 PM
strategery isn’t even a word.
Obama just mispronounced a word that I bet many people would mispronounce.
Palin Steele on February 4, 2010 at 5:45 PM
I didn’t want to say, ‘blow’, meat.
Sorry.
HornetSting on February 4, 2010 at 5:45 PM
Yes, but when are you Americans going to learn to say “lef-tenant” properly? Hmmm?
Fortunata on February 4, 2010 at 5:45 PM
What a laughingstock. He said it wrong twice… ROFL.
JimP on February 4, 2010 at 5:46 PM
FOX did a pilot of “Are You Smarter Than A Liberal” but they canceled the project because all the contestants won.
Daggett on February 4, 2010 at 5:46 PM
I’m pretty sure that someone that says “strategery” is simply mispronouncing “strategy.” What think you, Dum Dum?
MeatHeadinCA on February 4, 2010 at 5:47 PM
Truly embarrassing.
He should have tried it in Creole.
Craniac on February 4, 2010 at 5:47 PM
Remember last year when he was talking about a business named Orion (the constellation) and called it Or-e-on instead of O ri on?
Normally this and Rahm’s “retarded” remark would not matter but these jackasses think they are so much smarter than everyone else—esp. that Bush guy. Anyone want to bet that PEEBOH makes another funny w/in a month?
arnold ziffel on February 4, 2010 at 5:47 PM

nico on February 4, 2010 at 5:47 PM
Bush never said “strategery”. That was SNL.
Much like “I can see Russia from my house.”
Neither was ever said by the politician in question.
Abby Adams on February 4, 2010 at 5:47 PM
Bush misspoke too, didn’t you hear? Of course that didn’t keep you from ridiculing him as a fool.
You need to try harder.
Bishop on February 4, 2010 at 5:48 PM
It makes me wonder how he would pronounce ‘colonel’.
carbon_footprint on February 4, 2010 at 5:48 PM

Key West Reader on February 4, 2010 at 5:49 PM
Me either. That’s why I am beginning to think he has no degree from any college. This man lacks so much that any college that graduated him must have been looking the other way when it wrote out his diploma.

JohnBissell on February 4, 2010 at 5:49 PM
But..but….but Obama is thee most intelligent president we’ve ever had. He can do no wrong. He’s the ONE, the Messiah. The one we have been waiting for. bahahahaha
Did it ever occur to you, that perhaps Bush was saying strategy, which is a word, and made the same mistake Obama did? Of course not.
capejasmine on February 4, 2010 at 5:49 PM
Ugh, I stand corrected, thank you.
So my backup is the example given above: “Nookyaler”.
Bishop on February 4, 2010 at 5:50 PM
Corpse man? WTF!? I knew this Marxist SOB is hell bent on destroying the country… But I never thought he’d use zombies!!!
One other thing:
This is different than the Bush/Obama things. Boston keep it real, and if you’re going to pander to them, you better not be so obvious, disconnected, and elitist as MA dems continue to be. Remember what an a-hole Kerry looked like wearing, and talking about wearing his Red Sox hat? Remember when he said his favorite player was some nonexistent player Manny Ortiz?
The point is, these elitist POS Dems would do better by their constituents if they simply admitted they “don’t know” when the sports questions come up… But the uninformed pandering based obviously on a few names given to these people by their handlers reveals their true feelings about the average person, and sports fan – the pols think we’re dumb and they can win us with this crap.
It’s like I said a few weeks ago:

I don’t care who the leader du jour is, if the mispronounce simple words I mock and ridicule them, just as my children mock and tease me when I do the same. Stop sniffin’ his butt so tightly that you can’t see the forrest through his balls.
thomasaur on February 4, 2010 at 5:52 PM
Heh. He’s a fuc!ing idiot with zero interest in anything having to do with the military. He’s Bill Clinton, only more sissified, if that’s possible.
Jaibones on February 4, 2010 at 5:52 PM
Have you ever heard of accents? Bush lives in Texas, and there are many here who speak with an accent. Just like Kennedy from Mass. Cah…yahd, bah, etc…
But, you are entitled to your opinion. But when you lose your freedoms, and your country goes belly up….I’m sure you’ll still buy a ticket to stand in line to kiss O’s behind.
capejasmine on February 4, 2010 at 5:52 PM
Well, OK, then.
So, Dum Dum, does it burn you up that the worst President EVAH (BOOOSH) only knew about 56 states? I’m sorry, he forgot about your state… :(

Much like Orion. Since zero can’t pronounce it he has canceled the project with NASA.
dragondrop on February 4, 2010 at 5:53 PM
Oh, billions of people would make the same mispronunciation as The Precedent did. Americans? Not so much. Any American with a brain knows how to pronounce the word and has seen it many times in books and movies and all sorts of places.
The Precedent has no American sensibilities about him, as he showed with “57 states” and O-ree-on (reading “Orion”) and many other instances. He is a third worlder, all the way. Obviously.

Nothing to see here. Obama was merely referring to the fact that, to the Left, the only good serviceman is a dead serviceman.
misterpeasea on February 4, 2010 at 5:55 PM
One mispronunciation of “corps” in 20 seconds could be an anomaly.
Two mispronunciations of “corps” in 20 seconds is the mark of a man ignorant of the military he allegedly leads.
nico on February 4, 2010 at 5:56 PM
He’s just using some of that dialect Reid was so impressed with!
chickasaw42 on February 4, 2010 at 5:57 PM
I think it’s clear he knows how to pronounce “corps”.
It’s the word “corpsman” that tripped him up. Twice.
Abby Adams on February 4, 2010 at 5:57 PM
Heh… This reminds me of when I was 9 years old. I went to a yard sale and “Cologne” was for sale. So, I smelled something I liked and asked, “How much for the Coll-og-nee”? I got laughed at so hard!
Also, the time when I was 12 and shopping in a Macy’s Dept store in the Lingerie Department with my mom. And, asked my mom, “What’s Ling-er-eee?”. She had a good laugh as did the store clerks. Then we went to lunch.
Our Precedent is the smartemest man on the whole Earth. MMM. MMM. MMM.

I don’t mean to nitpick, but “corpse-man” aside, if you’re going to tell an anecdote about someone, or even if you just made the thing up from whole cloth, couldn’t you at least keep the name straight? Is it “Christian Bershard” or “Christopher”.
Words, words.

MeatHeadinCA on February 4, 2010 at 6:00 PM
Anyone else think that when Obama gives a speech such as this that when he gives it live it is the first time he has ever seen the words of the speech?
As in he never practices it or reads it out loud to anyone to help in the delivery.
albill on February 4, 2010 at 6:00 PM
Let’s get to the Core of the Corps problem shall we? Release Obama’s College Records and let us vindicate the staffer who probably has an English/Computer Tech degree and knows how it should have been pronounced.
My guess? He won’t be attending the Prayer Breakfast next year.

Nathan, not ONLY does he poop gold, he commands the Unicorns to poop out rainbows and skittles! He is so amazing.
Blah.
Key West Reader on February 4, 2010 at 6:03 PM
I see it that way too. There’s no passion in the man’s voice, PBHO is just saying things because he has too, even his pauses seem scripted as if the prompter says *stick nose in air and dramatically pause*.
Bishop on February 4, 2010 at 6:04 PM
No, no, no… it’s “This teleprompter was here before I even came here.” No direct mention to the man with a 4th grade reading comprehension that can still pronounce “corps.”

As a former Navy Corpsman, this is pretty dumb on the part of the potus. There is such a thing as a Marine Corps, not Corpse…you’d think he’d have heard of them. Pronounced same way.

Congrats, BarryO. You’re as dumb as I was when I was twelve.
James on February 4, 2010 at 6:12 PM
corpseman isn’t either.
unclesmrgol on February 4, 2010 at 6:13 PM
Again, I state.
Obama pronounces corps correctly in “White House press corps” correctly… but says corpse-man with the military.
It shows his complete disregard for all things military.

How long until Andrew Sullivan claims that the pronunciation “corpseman” is commonly used, and that it is the highest honor to be referred to by someone using that pronunciation?
Master Shake on February 4, 2010 at 6:17 PM
What this tells me is that The Won hadn’t actually bothered to talk to anyone knowledgeable about that story he told. He must have gotten it third or fourth hand. I know for sure that he didn’t talk to any Navy or Marine personnel about it because they would certainly have pronounced it correctly possibly giving him a clue. For him it was just a photo op to highlight how much he cares about our folk in uniform. All it did was to illustrate his indifference.

Liberals derided Bush for mispronouncing the seven letter word “nuclear” but the left’s heroes, Obama fails at the five letter word “corps”, and JFK failed at the four letter word “Cuba”.
Not to mention Teddy Kennedy who was indecipherable in parts of his campaign speeches.
