Quote of the day

posted at 11:05 pm on February 4, 2010 by Allahpundit

“At the hospital, DC police officer John Muniz arrived to issue Medlock a $20 jaywalking ticket. Medlock was lying sedated on a gurney, so Muniz delivered the ticket to a Daily Caller colleague, who was at the hospital with Medlock. He looked embarrassed as he did so. Behind him stood a man dressed in a dark suit who identified himself as a ‘special agent.’ He said nothing but wrote in a notebook.

“Curiously, the ticket says that Medlock was struck at an intersection four blocks from where the accident actually took place. And it claims that Medlock was walking diagonally across the intersection at the time. In one of his strikingly short conversations with the Daily Caller, agent Mike McGuinn acknowledged that Medlock was not jaywalking at all, but walking ‘outside the crosswalk when the incident occurred.’

“The question is: Did the federal agent driving the SUV, faced with potential liabilities from the accident, encourage local police to issue some sort – any sort – of citation to Medlock, to establish his culpability?”

I hope Treach gets some justice out of this. I think his influence and friends could be ideal in getting to the bottom of this crap.

P.S. did anyone else know that Treacher was on SpaceGhost once?

Ok. Some history. Apparently covering up and screwing up hit and run investigations is nothing new in D.C. Check out this WaPo article from 99.

Also, here’s the law in D.C. about the driver’s responsibility when pedestrians are crossing the street. According to Treach’s statements, even IF he was out of the cross walk, the driver’s still screwed:

Failure to STOP and give right of way to a pedestrian who has begun crossing on the WALK signal (signalized intersection). $250 and 3 points

Colliding with a pedestrian while committing any of the above-listed offenses.
Penalty for colliding with a pedestrian leads to a double fine. $500 and 6 points criminal charges are possible

Why would Hillary hire Blackwater? They are trying to railroad the guys who were acquitted in that one incident. The Democrat branch of the War on Terror started handing out grievance checks at that scene before they even knew the story, and now they need to prosecute people who were defending themselves to defend their actions about handing out grievance checks to insurgents.

These leftists who have infiltrated our military should be the first enemy we deal with before worrying about Taliban and al qaeda. They are far more dangerous to the health of the nation.

Even if Treach WAS j-walking, the guy fled the scene. Innocent people don’t run in the eyes of the law. Doing so can get you convicted when staying would have resulted in no charges. The State Dept has hired a lot of Blackwater.

Blackwater – the U.S. Army’s Millstone

Ten months later, however — after Blackwater guards shot and killed 17 Iraqi civilians in a Baghdad traffic circle on Sept. 16 — the State Department can no longer quietly manage the consequences of having its own private army in Iraq.

With State Department and FBI investigations underway, the military leaked its own report on the Sept. 16 shootings, finding no evidence that the Blackwater guards fired in self-defense, as the company has maintained. U.S. [Army] officers have publicly criticized the security contractors as out-of-control “cowboys” who alienate the same Iraqis the military is trying to cultivate.

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said last week that the contractors are at “cross purposes” with military goals.

Blackwater Guards Fired at Fleeing Cars, Soldiers Say

Blackwater USA guards shot at Iraqi civilians as they tried to drive away from a Baghdad square on Sept. 16, according to a report compiled by the first U.S. soldiers to arrive at the scene, where they found no evidence that Iraqis had fired weapons.

“It appeared to me they were fleeing the scene when they were engaged. It had every indication of an excessive shooting,” said Lt. Col. Mike Tarsa, whose soldiers reached Nisoor Square 20 to 25 minutes after the gunfire subsided.

His soldiers’ report — based upon their observations at the scene, eyewitness interviews and discussions with Iraqi police — concluded that there was “no enemy activity involved” and described the shootings as a “criminal event.” Their conclusions mirrored those reached by the Iraqi government, which has said the Blackwater guards killed 17 people.

Tarsa said they found no evidence to indicate that the Blackwater guards were provoked or entered into a confrontation. “I did not see anything that indicated they were fired upon,” said Tarsa, 42, commander of the 3rd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment of the 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division. He also said it appeared that several drivers had made U-turns and were moving away from Nisoor Square when their vehicles were hit by gunfire from Blackwater guards.

Blackwater Is Soaked

The colonel was furious. “Can you believe it? They actually drew their weapons on U.S. soldiers.”
The colonel, who was involved in a follow-up investigation and spoke on the condition he not be named, said the Blackwater guards disarmed the U.S. Army soldiers and made them lie on the ground at gunpoint until they could disentangle the SUV. His account was confirmed by the head of another private security company.
One military contractor, who spoke anonymously for fear of retribution in his industry, recounted the story of a Blackwater operative who answered a Marine officer’s order to put his pistol on safety when entering a base post office by saying, “This is my safety,” and wiggling his trigger finger in the air. “Their attitude was, ‘We’re f—ing security; we don’t have to answer to anybody’.”

MB4 on February 5, 2010 at 2:20 AM

Excerpts from “Blackwater: Hired Guns, Above the Law” by Jeremy Scahill:

“Colonel Thomas Hammes, the US military official once overseeing the creation of a new Iraqi military, has described driving around Iraq with Iraqis and encountering Blackwater operatives. “[They] were running me off the road. We were threatened and intimidated,” Hammes said. But, he added, “they were doing their job, exactly what they were paid to do in the way they were paid to do it, and they were making enemies on every single pass out of town.” Hammes concluded the contractors were “hurting our counterinsurgency effort.”

Brigadier General Karl Horst, deputy commander of the 3rd Infantry Division said of private security contractors, “These guys run loose in this country and do stupid stuff. There’s no authority over them, so you can’t come down on them hard when they escalate force…. They shoot people, and someone else has to deal with the aftermath. It happens all over the place.” Horst tracked contractor conduct for a two month period in Baghdad and documented at least a dozen shootings of Iraqi civilians by contractors, resulting in six Iraqi deaths and the wounding of three others. That is just one General in one area of Iraq in just 60 days.

The conduct of these private forces sends a clear message to the Iraqi people: American lives are worth infinitely more than theirs, even if their only crime is driving their vehicle in the wrong place at the wrong time. One could say that Blackwater has been very successful at fulfilling its mission–to keep alive senior US officials. But at what price?

***********************************************************

They only thing worse than having State Department employed Blackwater running around loose in Iraq would be to having them running around lose in America.

MB4 on February 5, 2010 at 2:32 AM

“The question is: Did the federal agent driving the SUV, faced with potential liabilities from the accident, encourage local police to issue some sort – any sort – of citation to Medlock, to establish his culpability?”

crr6 on February 4, 2010 at 11:26 PM

Well, I can’t see any reason why there would be a conspiracy out to get Treacher. And if there’s no conspiracy, then it was an accident rather than a deliberate attack.

Which raises the very serious question: how often do accidents like this happen where the victim is charged with jaywalking four blocks from where the accident occurred, while the perpetrator sends an agent to monitor the victim as he’s served the ticket by the police?

Is this a commonplace occurrence? Does our wonderful government of the people, by the people, and for the people routinely trample peasants under the noblemen’s carriages and throw them in the stocks for being in the way make illegal turns while speeding through intersections and plow into pedestrians crossing the street, then give the victims of the accidents tickets for jaywalking?

Because if so, I’m not really seeing how our government is less high-handed than medieval dictatorships.

Sorry, but I find this incident unusual, and even at its least interesting — that is, if it’s no more than a routine traffic accident — the government response to the incident is … weird. I would expect the bureaucracy, and the denial of liability, but what appears to be an attempt to falsify a hit-and-run incident in order to preserve their claim of non-liability is interesting, to say the least.

I strongly suspect this sort of thing has happened before, and the government has used this heavy-handed approach to make the incident disappear. In which case, only Treacher’s fame — notoriety? — prevents him from being similarly swept under the rug.

So I believe I’ll just ignore your plea to ignore the incident.

Lourdes on February 5, 2010 at 3:09 AM

Sounds like Obama was the one behind the wheel. After all, he’s always complaining about being isolated in the WH, not being able to get out and such. Suppose he was the one who was behind the wheel of the black SUV. Suppose he was the one who made the illegal left turn. Suppose he was the one who struck Treacher … and did not stop. Think about that, If the POTUS had been behind the wheel of a SUV by himself, would he stop … if he did not wish to be discovered?

How else to explain the song and dance, the lies, the cover up that’s going on? Why would an agent not stop and take a ticket—possible loss of job in an Obama economy, true—not stop and see to the man whom he struck down?

I don’t like how this whole thing sounds, especially the cover up of it. The story is that some Fed agent was behind the wheel; how do we know? Where was Obama? No, I’m not being neurotic, but I’m looking at the lies, the cover up, the manipulation of the police to blame the victim. Would a mere agent have that kind of power? I don’t know. If you know, do tell.

THe whole thing reeks, IMO. So, the big questions: who was really behind the wheel of the black SUV? Where was Obama, Barack or Michelle?

If you are referring to Ruby Ridge, the woman was NOT running away with a baby in her arms.

She was inside the house holding the baby and the special agent popped her from a distance.

Her 14 year old son was shot in the back by a special agent after the special agent shot the boys dog. The boy was running away from the scene, terrified by what had just happened. He never saw who was shooting at him.

Has anyone called this “Treachergate” yet?

Shy Guy on February 5, 2010 at 7:52 AM

I saw Jim Cramer on Meredity Viera’s show today (at the gym couldn’t change channel). Cramer obviously has his head right now. He was doing the guardrail mission for the White House. He said, “don’t sell” and “companies will simply have to start hiring soon” and all kinds of net knitting for the 0ne today. If I weren’t so biased, I’d say that Cramer was fluffing the 0ne’s golden parachute.

I’m placing my bet on 10.2%, the redhead, and for Scott Brown to become the next GWB.

I recall Obama says people acted stupidly before he takes a story.

This case sounds like DHS style of acting stupidly.

Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery JT, and continued success at The DC.

Two quick points: 1) Clearly there are some un-answered questions about how a citation is issued, (inacurately–wrong location), and why “another agent” needed to be present while the DC Metro officer issued the ticket. 2)I’ve seen no written information either here or at The DC, that explains if there was any interview of/with JT prior to the issue of the citation. And, if there was no interview by the DC officer with JT, how did he arrive at the conclusion that there was a violation on JT’s part?

The “ANSWERS:” from the State Dept. posted in the Daily Call article, seems to raise more questions:

ANSWERS:

At approximately 7:10 PM last night, a jogger collided with one of the U.S. Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service’s official vehicles.

The jogger was transported by ambulance to Georgetown University Hospital.

Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. Diplomatic Security has since learned that the jogger was cited for Jaywalking. For further details regarding the investigation, we would refer you to MPD.

At all times, Diplomatic Security acted responsibly and appropriately and displayed due diligence in caring for the injured. link

What’s with this JOGGER CRAP? Treacher’s WALKING to the CVS for milk and bread. No where in his statement posted by Ed, says ANYTHING that indicated he was jogging. Lastly, (for now), even if JT did give a statement to the DC Metro officers at the scene or at the hospital, I’m interested in how the officer arrived at the conclusion that JT be issued a citation, when the evidence presented leaves us to believe it was the SUV driver’s fault for running into the jogger.

As soon as Gibbbs wipes the fried chicken grease off his chin, he will give us all the details. He comes thru like a champ.

Was Treacher on a gurney or waterboard….

Why no ticket at the scene? So a cop that was not there gave a ticket because he was forced to? Make the victum of careless driving and a hit and run the perp?

One glaring part of this story that tells me something is fishy is the part where the cop comes to the hospital and gives him a jay walking ticket. I mean come on, the man is in the hospital with a busted knee, cuts and scrapes and the cops take the time out to come to the friggin hospital to give him a ticket? I am tossing the BS flag on the entire thing. DC cops are some of the most over worked (and corrupt) cops in the country. They simply do not have the time to do this. Someone way the heck up the food chain ordered this to be done.

This reeks… I just hope it turns out to be a true mishap and not something more sinister …What was JT working on this past week or so….ummm.

jerrytbg on February 5, 2010 at 8:17 AM

Even Vegas, where pedestrians DO NOT have the right of way, you have to stop when you hit someone.

Hit and Run drivers tend to get the book thrown at them in many jurisdictions, hope JT can find a wicked legal wizard to put this out into the light and hopefully someone in front of a pissed off judge.

Tucker needs to go to Fox News with this. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. Get well soon, Jim!

Jack Bauer would have stopped and called for an ambulance on his perpetual cell phone.

Is this the Chicago way of dealing with unfriendly bloggers?

Maybe one of 0bama’s buddies, from some backwards @$$ craphole of a country, flaunting diplomatic immunity?

I can’t think of any other reasons that this bizarre incident is unfolding, the way it is.

MNHawk on February 5, 2010 at 8:52 AM

“Curiously, the ticket says that Medlock was struck at an intersection four blocks from where the accident actually took place.

That gets the case thrown out right there.

Hitting Treacher probably was merely an accident. But now there seems to be a cover-up. Are people that dense in DC? It’s not the crime, it’s the cover-up that leads to trouble. Don’t the names Nixon & Clinton have any resonance?

Hey, at least it wasn’t as bad what happens in Moscow.

See the late editor of Forbes-Russia for further details.

Sometimes digging up dirt can earn you a dirt-nap.

Not that Jim was a ‘target’, mind you.

Things haven’t gotten that bad.

Not by a long shot.

That is a common practice, particularly when the person who is going to be cited is seriously injured. What doesn’t make sense in what I have read is the fact that someone told Treacher that he was not jay walking, but outside the crosswalk. Does that make him fair game? A ticket to someone seriously injured is just not right, and no reasonable patrol officer would write it. Someone is trying to cover their a$$.

The fact that the DC reporter was told by the MPD that there would be no accident report has to be untrue. There is no way that a serious personal injury hit and run accident would not be documented. There is a report somewhere, someone doesn’t want it made public.

Does anybody know if there is a term for the privileges of the elite to abuse commoners, such as with royalty in the past?

If so, is seems that we’re going to be needing it again.

I think the term you’re looking for is “droit de seigneur” (the right of the lord). Supposedly, it meant the lord had, er, first dibs on all the virgins on his estate on their wedding night. Droit de seigneur is a source of the conflict in both the movie Braveheart and in the opera Marriage of Figaro.
