Obama hints to Dems: If you don’t pass ObamaCare, you deserve to lose the midterms
posted at 8:51 pm on February 4, 2010 by Allahpundit
From tonight’s fundraiser. You have to read between the lines, but you don’t have to read too hard.
So what happens if the bill in Congress does not pass? It’s an election year, Obama said to remember.
“If Congress decides we’re not going to do it, even after all the facts are laid out, all the options are clear, then the American people can make a judgment as to whether this Congress has done the right thing for them or not. And that’s how democracy works, with the elections coming up. And they will be able to make a determination, and register their concerns one way or the other during election time.”
Percentage of Americans who think Congress is/isn’t doing “the right thing for them” by passing this bill: 38/51. You might think that a guy who sees catastrophe on the horizon if this doesn’t get done would be bringing every ounce of presidential power he has to bear on making sure that it does. But you would be wrong:
“The president was weighing in pretty heavily on the discussions between the House and Senate before the Massachusetts special [Senate] election,” Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) told Huffington Post. “It’s dried up since.”…
Brown’s lament was echoed in conversations with several high-ranking Senate aides this past week, many of whom agreed that the administration’s involvement in health care negotiations has declined since Scott Brown’s victory in the Massachusetts Senate race…
All of which has struck Sherrod Brown and others as somewhat peculiar. Most observers of the debate believe that the best way to get legislation passed is to follow the suggestion of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif), who said that the Senate needs to make a firm commitment (either in writing or action) to amend its legislation. Whatever steps can be made to facilitate that process would seem important. But the administration is so far declining to engage.
Verrrry peculiar. So peculiar, in fact, that Al Franken reportedly went nuclear on Axelrod after The One’s Q&A with Democrats yesterday about why Obama wasn’t using more leverage to get the Senate to use reconciliation. It’s a good question. Obama’s ass isn’t on the line in November; what does he have to lose by twisting arms in the senior chamber to whatever extent he can to pass this thing? Or is it more a case of him realizing that with the 60th vote gone and defeats in Jersey, Virginia, and Massachusetts on his record, he really has no more leverage available to use?
Either way, savor the thought that after just a year of Hopenchange, the big O himself would be forced to warn his own party of looming electoral catastrophe.
Update: Keep up the great work, champ.

You would think that American Citizens, spending their own money, to travel to Town Hall Meetings, even the Capitol of our Nation itself over the Summer, into the Fall, and into Winter…
Screaming at the top of their lungs to “STOP!!!”
… and only now, when their jobs are on the line, they think it might be a good idea to listen to the people that put them in a position of power under the Constitution of the United States.
Who knew?

Friends; we are again witnessing history. It certainly is unprecedented. We have the historic opportunity to teach the world how a free people deals with a socialist demagogue. We refuse to be subjugated–we refuse his “progress”, his policies are antithetical to free people and the world now needs to bear witness to how free men and women show folks like this the door. Maybe then, a few of those countries would stand up to their Chavez, Ahmedinajad and Kim Jong Ils.
ted c on February 4, 2010 at 9:43 PM
Instead of galavanting around the country giving grandiose speeches and bowing to foreign leaders perhaps he should have had his nose to the grindstone right along with Congress trying to negotiate some kind of bill that the American people would accept. He could still do it, instead, they get this. Wow.

Well, since Tim Tebow and Obama are both in the news right now, and since they were actually in the same room this morning at the Prayer Breakfast (although I did read that Obama left before Tim closed it in prayer) I think I want to make a comparison.
Everything I’ve read about Tim Tebow indicates he leads by example, by encouragement and by taking responsibility for his actions.
Obama appears to think that leadership means passing the buck, threatening and pointing the finger of blame.
At the age of 22 Tim Tebow knows more about true leadership than Obama.

Good comments but Obama has a short attention span and no experience at actually doing anything substantial. So he “flits” from one thing to another. “Not to worry”, he thinks, “We have enough in place, one way or another to destroy America.” (Geeze that first year went by fast and my friends were not really as much help as I thought.)
There are more outrages still to be employed. This spring and summer may be slightly slower than last but there is still a lot of work just to stay in place. Maybe a new flag or some more sign materials. Hang in.

A WSJ article today also said there is an April deadline in the budget reconciliation rules. After that, apparently the senate version of the bill, which the House has yet to pass, can’t be reconciled.

To assuage their liberal guilt, of course. The biggest racists and sexists have always been the liberals. That’s why they accuse everyone else of being such: they projected their own covert racism onto society at large because they don’t have the courage to look straight into their own souls. They voted for Obama, not to show that they aren’t racists, but to prove that America isn’t. And it never once occurred to them that that attitude is in itself racist.

Obama’s White House doesn’t really have many deep ties to the Washington political machines. It’s Chicago buddies of Obama plus Clinton retreads (and the retreads will jump off the sinking ship). Obama doesn’t have chits to call in or old DC friends on which to rely.
When the Dem rank and file start distancing themselves, he has no one left except his lefty groups scattered around the country. And they’re not to happy with his Bush-like national security policies.

Some are taking offense at these comparisons — see In defense of drunken sailors
Money quote:
“When pulling into a foreign port after many weeks or months at sea with the world’s finest navy, I always looked forward to sampling the native’s libations. Yes, I got hammered.
However, when I ran out of money I STOPPED DRINKING! I didn’t club the patron on the bar stool next to me over the head and rob him so I could continue drinking. I didn’t call me wife and ask her to cash in the kids college funds so I could continue drinking. I didn’t write my unborn grandkids an IOU so I could continue drinking. I just stopped and stumbled back to the liberty launch for a cheeseburger. I knew I’d have some cash next payday and I could hit the bars and clubs in the next liberty port.
So please, no more comparisons of deficit spending politicians to harmless drunken sailors. Drunken sailors have feelings too.”

Considering the arithmetic of the Americans’ mounting national debt, I wonder what one can reasonably expect regarding campaign contributions this year. It seems even such a wildly improbable amount as a trillion dollars, donated to the right candidates and committees, could yield two-fold repayment in terms of decreased deficits in 2011 and 2012. On the other hand, it seems the Americans who foresee the greatest opportunities to be in receipt of large “federal” expenditures over the next two years will also willingly donate large sums in hopes of preserving their expected receipts.

Vashta.Nerada on February 5, 2010 at 12:52 AM
Obama, publicly, is being intentionally obtuse. He has seen the polls and knows without a shadow of a doubt that the Democrats will lose big time this November.
But, like Clinton, he intends to spin it as a loss because the Dems lacked the gonads to pass a nationalized health care bill, rather than the public’s true objection to such a bill.
This way he can walk away clean, in his own mind, and is exonerating himself regarding any culpability for the failure of his signature legislation. Obama will not even offer the Dems in Congress anything concrete in writing which might guide them towards a bill that has a chance of passing, and offers nothing but empty words to pump them up, or rather
.
If the congressional Dems are that stupid and dense that they can’t see the game plan unfolding right before their eyes, and they keep allowing Obama to sucker punch them like this, then they deserve for the party and their futures as politicians to complete to utterly self-destruct.

Grace_is_sufficient on February 5, 2010 at 4:44 AM
My conclusion about BO is that he wasn’t so much goalized to be President of the U.S.A. but to destroy the U.S.A. so the Presidency was how he decided he could accomplish that.
And that a second term wasn’t so much his plan but a possible afterthought if he FAILS in one term to render as much destruction of the U.S. as he envisions.
So a second term isn’t so much a big deal to him, it’s what he can render destructively to and about the nation in his first term, or, as he seems motivated by, in his own time-clock like a game clock ticking.
I think we have not begun to see the worst from Barack Obama. I think he does intend to do us great harm, as much as he can manipulate, in the coming years. Threatening Democrats who are beginning to think twice about him and his goals and methods is just the beginning of this.
