Obama hints to Dems: If you don’t pass ObamaCare, you deserve to lose the midterms
posted at 8:51 pm on February 4, 2010 by Allahpundit
From tonight’s fundraiser. You have to read between the lines, but you don’t have to read too hard.
So what happens if the bill in Congress does not pass? It’s an election year, Obama said to remember.
“If Congress decides we’re not going to do it, even after all the facts are laid out, all the options are clear, then the American people can make a judgment as to whether this Congress has done the right thing for them or not. And that’s how democracy works, with the elections coming up. And they will be able to make a determination, and register their concerns one way or the other during election time.”
Percentage of Americans who think Congress is/isn’t doing “the right thing for them” by passing this bill: 38/51. You might think that a guy who sees catastrophe on the horizon if this doesn’t get done would be bringing every ounce of presidential power he has to bear on making sure that it does. But you would be wrong:
“The president was weighing in pretty heavily on the discussions between the House and Senate before the Massachusetts special [Senate] election,” Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) told Huffington Post. “It’s dried up since.”…
Brown’s lament was echoed in conversations with several high-ranking Senate aides this past week, many of whom agreed that the administration’s involvement in health care negotiations has declined since Scott Brown’s victory in the Massachusetts Senate race…
All of which has struck Sherrod Brown and others as somewhat peculiar. Most observers of the debate believe that the best way to get legislation passed is to follow the suggestion of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif), who said that the Senate needs to make a firm commitment (either in writing or action) to amend its legislation. Whatever steps can be made to facilitate that process would seem important. But the administration is so far declining to engage.
Verrrry peculiar. So peculiar, in fact, that Al Franken reportedly went nuclear on Axelrod after The One’s Q&A with Democrats yesterday about why Obama wasn’t using more leverage to get the Senate to use reconciliation. It’s a good question. Obama’s ass isn’t on the line in November; what does he have to lose by twisting arms in the senior chamber to whatever extent he can to pass this thing? Or is it more a case of him realizing that with the 60th vote gone and defeats in Jersey, Virginia, and Massachusetts on his record, he really has no more leverage available to use?
Either way, savor the thought that after just a year of Hopenchange, the big O himself would be forced to warn his own party of looming electoral catastrophe.
Update: Keep up the great work, champ.

So if they don’t pass Health Care Takeover, Obama thinks they deserve to lose.
If they do pass it, their constituents are likely to think they deserve to lose.
Is that about right?

As others have said, Obambi perversely needs Republicans to win substantially in November so that he can campaign on the “sorry, but I tried” platform in 2012.
He has absolutely *no* reservations about tossing his own party under the bus, if doing so means that he has a chance to win his own re-election.
Still, a neutered Obambi is better than a strong one. Get a freakin’ backbone already, Republicans!!!

Each passing day, Obama becomes more toxic. Dems blindly following The One don’t care. They actually believe in Him. Dems who are not following blindly…and the number grows…do care. Not about us, the People, but about their cushy jobs.
Having the White House, having a comfortable majority in both houses of Congress for over a year, you’d think they’d have already passed this
travestyObamacare into law months ago…and, yet, The One still blames the GOP for his party’s failures?2012 is shaping up to be a year most Dems will remember for decades. The year they had it all and then managed to lose it all.
The one common denominator in all of this?
Obama.

How can he still be living under a rock? There are a lot of people in this country who DO NOT want the federal government involved in their insurance or their medical care. Many libs said Scott Brown won because people in Mass. already have a plan similar to ObamaCare and that they didn’t want to pay for the rest of the country to have the same. Maybe, just maybe, there are voters in Mass. that didn’t want the entire country stuck with what they have, and sending a Republican to Washington would help tip the scales.

I have always tended to think that the people that we elect to represent us have at least some intelligence, (at least most of them)but these people have absolutely no common sense whatsoever. I grew up in a farming community, worked my way through college, and was a police officer for 35 years. I swear that the small farm farmers, who worked very hard and were not wealthy, and the police officers that I worked with, all who moonlighted to provide for their families, could run this country so much better than these dumb a$$es that isn’t even funny.
This has gone from funny, to alarming.

ICBM on February 4, 2010 at 9:16 PM
You’re right, AP. His ass isn’t on the line. His ass is never on the line. It’s Bush’s ass on the line right up until the point that Brown gets seated, now it’s Congress’ ass on the line. The best gift we gave Obama was a supermajority. His demagoguery requires him to demonize somebody, anybody, as a means to blame shift and project his failures onto someone else. First, Bush, now, Congress–and Congress going forward. He has no power without an external enemy. The bittersweet irony is that his supermajority could obviously not be demagogued since they were his own party. It drew out his tactics and made him a farce. This presidency is on empty.
ted c on February 4, 2010 at 9:16 PM
I agree and it should make for an interesting scenario when he hits the “real” campaign trail in 2011. I suspect his little rallies will be held in high school gyms, abandoned VFW halls and parking lots of strip malls. The Denver stadium with its styrofoam columns will be a distant memory he can savor for the rest of his civilian life.

I was thinking the same thing when I read this. Adolf had a meltdown in the bunker where he blamed everybody but himself for Germany’s defeat. Did His Holiness, (and I don’t mean the Pope), take a cue from Der Fuhrer? I vonder vat Herr Obama ist tinking.
sdd on February 4, 2010 at 9:17 PM
Obama is sounding more and more like Hitler in his bunker.
Hitler resolves to stay in Berlin and rejects any attempt at a diplomatic solution. Certain officers agree that the Fuhrer has lost all sense of reality.
Later Hitler discusses his new scorched earth policy with Albert Speer, who begs mercy for the German people, saying that Hitler’s plans will return them to the Middle Ages. Hitler claims that the German people have shown themselves too weak and therefore the ones left do not deserve to survive.
Obama resolves to keep with his agenda and rejects any attempt at bipartisan solutions. Certain democrat senators, in private, agree that the One has lost all sense of reality.
Later Obama discusses his new scorched earth policy in private with Joe Biden, who in a rare moment of clarity begs mercy for the democrat congressmen, saying that Obama’s plans will return them to the 1994 ages. Obama claims that the democrat congressmen have shown themselves too weak and therefore the ones left do not deserve to survive.

The Precedent is extremely shallow. He’s only got a few ways of handling every issue and he pulls the same crap over and over. It’s unbelievable that he is still allowed to show his face in public. His con is busted and everyone knows it.
neurosculptor on February 4, 2010 at 9:23 PM
The guy really has no idea what’s going on.
I think, deep down and in the darkest and quitest of meetings with A’Rod and Tutu-Boy and other close advisers, he is being counseled to do some politically expedient and popular things. BUT HE JUST CAN’T BRING HIMSELF TO CONCEDE THAT HIS OWN POWER OF PERSONALITY COULD BE GONE.
He can’t get too close to this thing or it’s seemingly enevitable fall will paint him as a failure along with it. He can’t run completely from it or he’s also viewed as a failure for not leading on his pet policy drive and allowing it to fail.
He thought being Prez would be sort of like psyching-up the inner city rabble when he was a Community Organizer………..just a little louder, just a little more energy. POTUS-ing was gonna be a walk for guy like him or so he thought. He’s never failed in politics before and he thinks it’s due to his own power of voice and personality. But, both are faked creations of the t’prompter and an unchallenging media. The facade of the prompter is forefront now and the adoring media of Chi-town cannot be replicated on the national scene in the face of such glaring faults and failings.
The guy is shooting his own for cowardice all while there are no reinforcements and the enemy is closing in on him from all sides. There is no good news for him on any front…..economy, budget, polls, recent elections, public mood, Congressional activity, int’l affairs, war on terrot. There’s a steaming pile of something in no matter what direction he takes a step.
It really is quite something to witness…..
