Finally: Scott Brown sworn in

posted at 6:40 pm on February 4, 2010 by Allahpundit

Thus endeth the supermajority. Two clips for you, one of the ceremony itself and the other of Scotty B’s presser immediately afterwards, at which budget deficits and terrorism are mentioned as top priorities. (Note the call for a “JFK-style tax cut.”) Of note: At around 4:30 of the C-SPAN clip, he hedges on “don’t ask, don’t tell” by saying he wants to talk to some generals before deciding, and at 5:45 he insists that the stimulus didn’t create a single new job. Expect that to be the subject of the Dems’ first statement about him. Possible title: “Why does Scott Brown hate education conferences?

The moment speaks for itself, but if you’re eager for companion reading see Ace’s post on learning to embrace the RINO within (at least, if you’re a blue-state conservative). Fully 10 seats will have to flip for the GOP to take back the Senate, which means it’s going to take major upsets in California and/or New York to make it happen. If you know any DeMint-ish “true conservatives” who can win there, speak up or make peace with tomorrow’s Scotty B’s.

I heard somewhere that the Democrats have been taking advantage of Brown’s absence. What have they been doing? If anyone knows. Besides the Debt vote.

TimTebowSavesAmerica on February 4, 2010 at 6:44 PM

Something tells me, that if the country keeps going in the direction it is, it won’t be hard to find conservatives to win those seats.

Every day, I think more, and more are getting sick, and tired of the b.s., and ready to bounce these far left dip sticks out on their rears.

It is so sweet to have John Kerry standing as a witness. You might be next Hanoi John!

If you know any DeMint-ish “true conservatives” who can win there, speak up or make peace with tomorrow’s Scotty B’s.

I’m totally fine with Scotty B’s brand of republicanism, I just don’t want it to be the underlying philosophy that governs our party in how it approaches problems. Look, why can’t we have Demint-ish style of conservatism to guide our direction and set the agenda, with Brown, McCain, et al setting the pace? I’d be totally cool with that. As it is right now, the McCain types are acting as a buffer between the underlying agenda and direction of the political movement, offering not much more than just a retarding of the pace. I just want the model to flip.

mydh12 on February 4, 2010 at 7:01 PM

BTW, Bill Delahunt, Hugo Cavez’s man in Congress is in deep trouble here in MA. He can’t even raise money! So it looks like he’s going to retire. The Dems are desperate to hold the seat so it’s rumoed that Joe Kennedy is going to run for it.

It “just so happens” the TV and Radio airwaves here have been jammed with Ads featuring Joe Kennedy’s “non-profit” Citizen’s Energy, a Hugo Chavez Citgo financed operation that sells cheap oil to whomever Joe want to sell it to. So Joe is using money from this operation to run Ads all of a sudden to build up his image before he announces. Nice guy huh? He also pulls down $600K/yr from this little venture. These Ads btw, have to be seen to be believed. Joe doesn’t yet realize the people have MA have had enough.

Watching that Scotty B. press interview…

It was not so surprising that questions of ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ and ‘How will you cross the isle to be the 60th vote’ came up.

Scotty B. didn’t even flinch, even when the ‘press’ ended with “Where’s the truck?”.

Labor leaders ‘fuming’ over Scott Brown assuming Senate seat today

Sweet!

“Democrats were outmaneuvered yet again,” emailed a labor source who was granted anonymity to speak freely. “I’m used to us caving, but they didn’t even [try to delay Brown's seating]. They just hit the mat.

“I love how we cave to the Republicans and won’t seat our Senator, [Al] Franken. Then we reverse cave and seat their senator. I mean forget the analogy of one is playing checkers and the other playing chess. It’s like one is playing chess while the other is sitting there picking their nose.”
