Finally: Scott Brown sworn in

posted at 6:40 pm on February 4, 2010 by Allahpundit

Thus endeth the supermajority. Two clips for you, one of the ceremony itself and the other of Scotty B’s presser immediately afterwards, at which budget deficits and terrorism are mentioned as top priorities. (Note the call for a “JFK-style tax cut.”) Of note: At around 4:30 of the C-SPAN clip, he hedges on “don’t ask, don’t tell” by saying he wants to talk to some generals before deciding, and at 5:45 he insists that the stimulus didn’t create a single new job. Expect that to be the subject of the Dems’ first statement about him. Possible title: “Why does Scott Brown hate education conferences?

The moment speaks for itself, but if you’re eager for companion reading see Ace’s post on learning to embrace the RINO within (at least, if you’re a blue-state conservative). Fully 10 seats will have to flip for the GOP to take back the Senate, which means it’s going to take major upsets in California and/or New York to make it happen. If you know any DeMint-ish “true conservatives” who can win there, speak up or make peace with tomorrow’s Scotty B’s.

Blowback

Good. Now don’t go wobbly on us, Scott.

Arrrgh! You were right, I almost hurled a heavy mug at the monitor. What a creep, and nice way to exploit that old couple.

I know. I appreciate anyone who does the charity work involved here, but J. Kennedy should have stuck with the voice-over and let someone pass themself off as ‘the regular guy’.

I can’t watch it willingly since they are running almost as often as a Martha Coakley attack Ad right now, but there’s a few different versions running with these poor people sounding like they are reading from a hostage demand letter. So sickening. The only thing worse is they he’s using the funds of a “non-profit” to run them when their transparent purpose is to help him run for Office. I can’t wait actually. Brown won Delahaunt’s district BIG so he’s going to get those horse teeth knocked down his throat (metaphorically speaking).

Charity work? Is that what you call making $600K for taking Oil from Hugo Chavez and giving it to your friends while doing praising a devout enemy of the United States? He even makes those props read the “thank you to the people of Venezuela and Citgo” part of the hostage letter.

I know exactly how you guys feel. Sen Judas Nelson is relentlessly hammering us with his campaign ads defending his vote for HCR. He sure is pissing through the half mil of his Cornhusker Kickback 2.0 from dingy harry. Thing is, Judas isn’t up for re-election until 2012.

OmahaConservative on February 4, 2010 at 8:51 PM

just amazing that Brown didn’t throw a fit before the vote to increase the debt by $1.9 trillion. I guess that vote wasn’t that big of a deal.

Just got back from dinner in NYC – did we ever find out where he’s movin his Omaha ofice to???? He’s about as clueless as Slowbama running those stupid ads on Fox every night- just like rubbing our noses in that treasonous vote- well 2012 can’t coem soon enuf! And until then I’ll be whistling while I work every day to fund Pat Toomey, in PA, Allen West, in FL, anyone who runs against Chucky in NY, and anyone else who we can replace with patriot candidates :-)

Oh God, another one of the radio now. I sincerely doubt these people even exist. BTW, Winter is almost over and he just started running these Ads with 6 weeks left in the season. What a fraud this POS is. Their reign of terror is over.

To see this video of Scott taking office- fantastic! Arriving home tonight my mail contained a very nice thank you note from him for working his campaign. I am so so so happy he’s now our senator, it almost brought tears to my eye. Excellent way to end the day!

wubu on February 4, 2010 at 9:24 PM

Okay Brown’s finally in. IMHO this could have been done sooner. Yes, I am complaining since each day brings another progressive outrage.

Brown’s only mostly conservative? I knew; MA is not TX. Will not throw him back.

There’s a slim chance House and Senate could change sides. House Rep leaders pretty good but Boehner and NRSC need to either go or get hit hard enough to understand that conservatives are the gold standard. Progressives will co-opt anybody weaker. We’ve seen that movie too often. And Scozzafava is not forgotten.

BTW, I like Steele. But I also like whatever I’m carrying when the need arises.

Well since somebody sort of brought it up how soon after Franken got his day in court (you know, and official stole that rigged election) did he get sworn in? (I don’t remember it being 2+ weeks.) Funny thing is if the dems had done the right thing for a change in at least 3 separate instances they would have retained this seat.

He is a lefty. Clearly presidential material..;)

Still amazed the GOP kept allowing Kirk to vote after January 19th. Count how many 60-40 vote bills and nominations passed between then and tomorrow.

I would still like to know if Brown was zoned out for the last 2 weeks or if he knew Kirk was voting and didnt care, or if the GOP leadership told him not to worry about it, or what.

Any time the media writes a story about how something passed “with 60 votes” between January 20th and February 4, remind said media that bill or confirmation should be null and void.

Senate Democrats muster all 60 votes one last time

Sorry to be a squeaky wheel about this, but I hate seeing history rewritten before my eyes. I dont understand why only Biggovernment.com and Weekly Standard were trying to make a fuss about this. I dont understand why Hot Air never devoted a post to it. I think it’s outrageous.

The Democrats lost 60 votes as soon as Brown won the election. Kirk’s term ended January 20th. After January 19th the Democrats had 59 votes. It doesnt matter when Brown actually gets certified or sworn in. After January 19th the Senate Dems had 59 votes. Period. Until Brown got sworn in, the GOP had 40 votes. For a period of about 2 weeks, the Democrats had 59 votes and the Republicans had 40 votes.

Every vote Paul Kirk cast after January 19th was an illegal vote. The GOP sat there and allowed the Dems to let him vote.

Every article or headline which talks about a bill or confirmation passed by “60 votes” after January 19th and before February 5th, further cements the impression that Kirk’s vote was legal.

The bills and confirmations passed during that time period by 60 votes should be null and void. We all know they won’t be, but at least let’s not go along with a collective amnesia about what happened here. If the GOP had not acquiesced to this illegal vote, Patricia Smith would not be confirmed and the debt limit would not have been raised.

A temporary problem. The website will be back up in January 2011, for the Kirk from Illinois.

I live in CT, and I’ve seen the ads. Kennedy does pretty much everything to exude self-love except stand naked in front of a mirror and wink while he touches himself. For anyone who thinks that they MIGHT see the ad on tv, some advice: remove all throwable objects from your reach. For the sake of the tv.

joejm65 on February 4, 2010 at 8:00 PM

Are you in eastern CT? Have there been any Rob Simmons ads for Senate yet?
