Quotes of the day

“As Congress begins picking through President Obama’s vast election year budget, many Democratic incumbents and candidates seem to be finding something they love — to campaign against…

“Heading into an election season in which Republicans are trying to tie Democrats to Obama’s unpopular policies, Obama’s budget gives his fellow Democrats an unlikely campaign tool — a catalogue of ways to establish their distance from controversial aspects of his administration.”

“[O]nce the president left and reporters were escorted out of the room, senators pressed White House officials about healthcare reform, according to those at the meeting.

“Democrats expressed their frustration with the lack of a clear plan for passing healthcare reform, according to one person in the room.

“One Democratic senator even grew heated in his remarks, according to the source.

“‘It wasn’t a discussion about how to get from Point A to Point B; it was a discussion about the lack of a plan to get from Point A to Point B,’ said a person who attended the meeting. ‘Many of the members were frustrated, but one person really expressed his frustration.’”

“It is a tough sell for any president who lives inside what Obama refers to as ‘the bubble,’ but tougher still for Obama. His first year in office was defined in part by a paradox. He is a rare president who comes from the middle class, yet people still perceive him as disconnected from it. As he arrived in Nashua, nearly two-thirds of Americans believed that his economic policies had hurt the country or made no difference at all; almost half thought he did not understand their problems…

“[D]uring his campaign for the presidency, Obama bungled some of his early attempts to connect with blue-collar workers, complaining about the price of arugula at Whole Foods and visiting a bowling alley only to roll an embarrassing score of 37. Some political rivals continue to disparage him as an elitist. Even his aides have sometimes worried that his intellect can be mistaken for condescension and that his composure can seem like detachment.

“At 3:30 p.m., less than three hours after he landed in New Hampshire, Obama peeled away from the crowd, pointing apologetically at a cadre of aides and Secret Service agents who were suggesting it was time to go. The moment for direct connection had passed. Now it was back to the motorcade, onto his 166th flight aboard Air Force One and off to the White House — back to a life apart.”

***
“President Barack Obama implored Senate Democrats on Wednesday to stay aggressive in pushing their agenda despite the loss of one vital seat, saying: ‘We still have to lead.’…

“The session came as part of broad outreach by Obama – to his party, his political opposition and a disgruntled public – as he seeks to get his agenda back on track…

“Obama used the same language toward Republicans as he did toward extremists in the Muslim world in his inaugural address. Of Republicans on Wednesday, he said, ‘We extend a hand and get a fist in return.’ In his inaugural address, he said the United States ‘will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.’”

He is a rare president who comes from the middle class, yet people still perceive him as disconnected from it.

Wait, he went to a prep school before attending Occidental College in Los Angeles (a small, private college) Columbia University, and Harvard Law School. From there he spent some time in academia before entering politics.

Now, I’m not holding myself up as a model of the middle class, but my quick rundown is homeschooled, GED, enlisted in the Army, where I’ve attended college at Cochise Community College, University of Maryland (Campus Europa) and American Military University. I’ve worked in fast food, retail, restaurants, before joining the Army. Aside from homeschooling and graduating high school, my parents had virtually similar paths of military service and some college at various colleges and universities.

I’m just trying to figure out where this notion came up that Pres. Obama is even remotely middle class. I guess people in the media just figure they can throw out this populist garbage that our current President is just a smarter, wiser, version of you and me and expect us to not even notice his pedigree.

I just wonder if maybe, in a different dimension, in a non-cannibalistic HotAir, one lone poster may finally get what some of us have been trying to say since early 2008 -

The “little Jakarta street kid” Barry Soetoro is not culturally American. During his main formative years he never lived in America. And when he came back, no one knows a damn thing about where he was, who he knew, where he got drunk and puked, or who broke his heart. One day, in an alternate universe, HotAir will wonder, where did this immaculately conceived being come from? And what type of car did he drive?

From living on a tropical island from 1961 to 1967 that had no American culture except for military people and supporting civilians from which there is no evidence he ever took a lesson, to the streets of Jakarta, to being enrolled in school as a Muslim, to worshiping in a mosque regularly, to describing the muezzin call as one of the most beautiful things on Earth, this kid never knew Bobby Brady. He never knew Danny Zuko. He never understood Billy Carter. He never even understood Booker Washington or Fredrick Douglass or Martin Luther King. he never understood us because he was raised ELSEWHERE….just… never…. was one of us.

The Founding Fathers had a reason for inserting the phrase, “natural-born” in the Constitution. They didn’t want another culture involved in his upbringing.

Now we are finding out why. The Prez just gets everything 180 degrees wrong.

Birth certificate or no, (and I wonder more and more just WHY it is hidden), this president does not act like an “American.”

More fool us.

After a year I’m still trying to figure out if The One is:

A. Sincere in all that he says and really is looking out for the best interests of our country in the truest sense of patriotism.

B. Really a Marxist who is seeking to destroy the America we know (or thought we knew) and replace it with Socialism.

C. Actually working in cahoots with the Bush’s, the Bilderberg group and others in bringing about the NWO.

D. Just a cunning politician seeking to line his own pockets and assure that he and his family are set up for life.

E. In reality a hard-core conservative who is trying to permanently discredit the Democratic Party and attempting to destroy the Progressive Movement once and for all in this country by working on it from the inside.

At this point I’m going with B and D.

Dr. ZhivBlago on February 4, 2010 at 6:01 AM

Even his aides have sometimes worried that his intellect condescension can be mistaken for condescension intellect …

“Cousin Pookie” … “wee-weed up” … “profit to earnings ratio” … “57 states” … and so forth. All these and more represent his “intellect”. I don’t know about you, but such utterences are more akin to those of a child in grade school, not someone who “reads Niebuhr(sp)”. He doesn’t write his speeches, another often-cited claim for his towering intellect. He can’t string together a cogent and comprehensible sentence without TOTUS. He didn’t author a single article as Editor of Harvard Law Review. His first “autobiography” was ghost written.
Let me see or read something that he’s done or written himself and then I’ll decide whether he posesses any intellect whatsoever. Until that happens he will continue to be what he has always been to me: an insecure poseur, with much to be insecure about.

Obama/Holder CYA with HIG:

An elite US interrogation unit will conduct “scientific research” to find better ways of questioning top suspected terrorists, US intelligence director Dennis Blair said Wednesday.

“It is going to do scientific research on that long-neglected area,” Blair told the House Intelligence Committee, without elaborating on the nature of the techniques being tested.

Blair said the task would fall to an interagency group of top US interrogators from across the intelligence community dubbed the High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group (HIG).

“Long neglected” completely legal enhanced interrogation techniques only need to be “re-discovered” by people who stupidly insist on re-inventing the wheel.

Wasting precious time, human resources and tax dollars on “scientific research” so-called by Obama’s administration that stupidly and maliciously still endorses Gore’s global profiteering hoax.

He added that the history of Congressional regulation of corporate involvement in politics had a dark side, pointing to the Tillman Act, which banned corporate contributions to federal candidates in 1907.

“Go back and read why Tillman introduced that legislation,” Justice Thomas said, referring to Senator Benjamin Tillman. “Tillman was from South Carolina, and as I hear the story he was concerned that the corporations, Republican corporations, were favorable toward blacks and he felt that there was a need to regulate them.”

It is thus a mistake, the justice said, to applaud the regulation of corporate speech as “some sort of beatific action.”

‘We still have to lead.”

Yes, but leading a retreat is still leading Obama. Feel free to exercise more of your immature, ivorytower honed leadership.

“*We still have to lead.”

But that is the problem,..who this “we” and exactly who is in the “lead” ?
Is everyone expected to follow along like a bunch of brainless zombies ?

Even his aides have sometimes worried that his intellect can be mistaken for condescension and that his composure can seem like detachment.

No mistake. He is an Elitist who was not raised in the lifestyle of the Average American. He is completely out of touch with the value system of the Average American. His ego will not allow him to admit any errors in forcing his Marxoist Agenda on this country. Out of touch? You betcha.

Intellect? What intellect? He reads words off a teleprompter. He got into college and law school on affirmative action. Let’s see some college or law school grades. Maybe the lost senior thesis or a decent law review article.

Composure? Take away TOTUS and see how composed he is without his security blanket. You end up with bizarre harangues about Scott Brown owning a truck.

The only surprising thing about this observation is that it comes from a liberal press/White House organ-grinder monkeys who view the GOP the same way. What can they be thinking, and whom are they parroting?

philly_PA on February 4, 2010 at 8:01 AM

I have seen leadership and I have been happy to follow true leaders. I see no leadership traits in Obama. He does not inspire the doubtful to put aside their doubts and have confidence in his direction. He does not instill a sense of purpose or comradeship. He simply dashes off in one direction and expects a nation to follow him because he is “the One we’ve been waiting for”. Many did follow, but not because of their confidence in what he showed himself to be, but rather because of their vague notion of what he might become. As that ideal is crushed by reality, the blind followers begin to gain sight and, seeing more clearly, are dropping off the Obama conga line.

Extrafishy on February 4, 2010 at 8:57 AM

Did he get this line from Kevin Jennings?

All the derivatives of the Marxist manifesto consider the middle class to be the ultimate evil, because their theory predicts that the middle class cannot come into being. Thus it must be ruthlessly destroyed. Explaining Obama-nations economic policies nicely.
