Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on February 3, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

When will Barack Obama get some competent assistance from his Office of Protocol? Obama has already embarrassed himself by executing deep-waisted bows to Saudi King Abdullah and Japan’s Emperor Akihito. Now he’s extending the show of submissiveness to … American mayors? The AP caught the moment:

U.S. President Barack Obama bows to Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio at MacDill Air Force Base on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010 in Tampa, Fla.

He didn’t bow like this to Queen Elizabeth (and rightly so). Ms. Iorio isn’t royalty, and even if she were, an American President should greet her with a handshake, not a bow. Does Obama greet the mailman with a bow, or the sanitation worker? Does he bow to Andy Stern when the SEIU chief comes to the White House on a weekly basis? OK, OK, I know the answer to that one …

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

I look forward to the day when Obama has to bow down to the former mayor of Wasilla (and hand her the keys to the White House!)

Christian Conservative on February 3, 2010 at 8:10 AM

Well, I personally find it very telling that he barely inclines his head to Queen Elizabeth, while scraping his knuckles for other leaders. It goes to show how he feels for our greatest ally in the war on terror. He is a putz.

When will Barack Obama get some competent assistance from his Office of Protocol?

Are we assuming that there is some competent assistance to be had from the office? Moreover, even if the competence existed in the office, and that it was conveyed to the POTUS, would he take their advice? I doubt his ability to both recognize and subsequently hire competent individuals. I also doubt his ability to demonstrate competence in learning or adhering to diplomatic protocols.

Professional amateur.

U.S. President Barack Obama bows to Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio at MacDill Air Force Base on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010 in Tampa, Fla.

At first I thought this picture was photo-shopped. Apparently not.

Then I thought he was looking up Ms. Iorio’s dress from the reflection in her shoes but that seems a bit too Clintonian.

Now I don’t know what to think. Is it just me or is that a look of disgust on the Admiral’s face.

This is just a “cover my ass’ thing…….Look, I bow to everybody, to take the sting off of bowing to the Saudi King.

I think that is it. Dear Liar bowed to the king of Saudi Arabia, the emperor of Japan and even the Chinese leader, but not the queen of England. And now bowing to an American mayor based not upon gender, but because of her perceived ethnicity. Barack Hussein Obama is clearly a racist. He reacts to people differently based on their “race” (which is actually a bad concept, biologically speaking, as there is more genetic variation within subSahara Africa than the rest of the world combined.)
The Whine is a racist and ill-informed.

Every single time B.O. does this bow thing of his, he ends up making himself more of a laughingstock to the country and to the rest of the world.

The problem is that he is also making himself look weak and compliant to our enemies, and that is never a good thing.

Rahm: “Damn it, Axelrod, I’ve told you over and over, keep more tension on those strings.”

Axelrod: “Somebody mis-marked the strings again. I was pulling on the one to keep his mouth shut but it was crossed with the one that keeps him upright.”

Rahm: “Well shape up. Keep that one to the hand taunt, and the mouth shut, or he’s liable to say ‘Pull my finger’.”

Axlerod: “Well Vegas wasn’t my fault, you had the strings while I was in the men’s room. Next time…”

Back in the 70′s, when I was in the Army, some black soldiers would greet each other with the “Dap”. This is exactly the same idea and actually not as creative as the ones I remember. Some were so elaborate, they were almost a dance routine. I thought it was silly, but as a white guy I couldn’t understand.

Obamateurism of Note?

NYC boycotts Terrorist Enemy Combatant trial in civil court, and Congress prepares legislation to prosecute enemy combatants in military tribunal–GITMO.

Launching his newest PC by attempting to retract “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” Obama distracts everyone from rescinding PC vs. Military. That retraction of PC would protect our troops at home and abroad, and protect American citizens stateside.

Rep. John Carter (R-TX), Co-Chairman of the House Army Caucus, has introduced two bills dealing with the Fort Hood attack. The Military Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act, HR 4267, protects service members from politically-correct disciplinary action for reporting or taking protective steps against radical Islamic threats.

He is bowing to her because of her strong support of CAIR, including her creation of ‘CAIR Day’ in Tampa. AND, as his Florida campaign co-chair, she collected a lot of money from CAIR to help finance his run for president. Fortunately, she has been forced to suspend ‘CAIR Day’.

Obama will always bow and scrape to those who wish to ‘fundamentally change America’. Keep watching.
