GOP poll: Republican leads by 12 points in race for Obama’s Senate seat?
posted at 6:16 pm on February 3, 2010 by Allahpundit
Too good to check? I’m leery of the fact that the poll finds a 49/42 spread on the question of whom the respondents voted for in 2008; the actual spread between Obama and McCain was 25 points, not seven. But (a) some of the respondents are probably feeling buyer’s remorse over Captain Hopenchange and lying about their actual vote, (b) Democratic turnout is much heavier when Obama’s at the top of the ticket than when his loser cronies have to run on their own (see, e.g., Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts), (c) Peter Fitzgerald, Obama’s predecessor, was a Republican so it’s by no means impossible to see a seat in Illinois go red, and of course (d) barring an astounding economic turnaround, the climate will be conservative in November anyway. Really conservative, perhaps:
Based on the current numbers 885,268 voters were cast in the Democratic primary for Senate compared to 736,137 on the Republican side. Those numbers are awfully close to each other for a state that’s overwhelmingly Democratic.
For sake of comparison the last time there were competitive Senate primaries on both sides in Illinois, in 2004 when Barack Obama was nominated, there were nearly twice as many votes cast in the Democratic primary as the Republican one. 1,242,996 voted in the Democratic race to 661, 804 for the Republicans.
So … yeah, this is doable. Doable by 12 points? Eh. By one point? Why not?
Here’s the NRSC’s inspired new attack ad on Obama flunky Alexi Giannoulias. I think you’ll find it very extremely shockingly racist if you’re a moron who works for MSNBC.

Wow. Ratigan had to say “that’s an Italian name” three times. I guess it’s true, you lie enough, it becomes the truth.
Useless swine.

On MSNBC Greek = Italian.
But then again we should probably give that idiot credit for knowing both countries are in southern Europe.

The ad is good except the voice over. Brooklyn accents don’t go over real big here. Could have gotten somebody from Cicero like Joe Mantegna and it would have been perfect.
Kirk should win, though I would not call him a conservative.

It’s racist that Republicans might be ahead in any poll. Just ask anyone of the Gimme Gimme Left.
If you ain’t givin’ what the Left demands, you might be a redneck.

If you tell your 13-year-old daughter to not let a boy get too close to her, rather than letting him that near and her getting an abortion, you might be a redneck.

Have any of you guys ever heard this Alexi speak? I just heard him on the local news again, and this guy, or better description “kid” is a putz and sounds like he’s only 16 years old.
Coupled with the Broadway Bank scandal, Kirk will win big time and won’t even have to open his mouth.

Ratigan is an Italian expression that translates as “worthless hack”. Don’t bother to look it up. Trust me, it’s true.

So Obamas ACORNs had to manufacture 600,000 votes for the Pinnochio Senator to become the Pinnochio Presidente.
Wonder how many votes ACORN will have to manufacture to keep the seat.
Vote early, vote often, vote absentee and early and often.
Just tell the poll watchers your a Dem especially the ones with the nightsticks!
dhunter on February 3, 2010 at 7:02 PM
49?
Question becomes how long can they keep wheelin Robert Byrd KKK D WV. out there! I hope the klansman does blurt out some racial epithet when he wakes up on the Senate floor!

Add NY and CA, and you have 51. They’re long shots, but still worth shooting for.

Drudge: vulneralbe Dems seek distance from Obama
Wethal on February 3, 2010 at 7:43 PM
Wow, the left calling this racist is beyond grasping at straws…I’m “Italian-American” (in lefty speak) as I’m 1st generation American. I’ve NEVER ONCE heard anyone be called racist for a random ‘ginny-WOP-dego’ remark before. Besides, that dude is greek. (as previous poster’s have mentioned, numerous times. The left’s deck of race cards are so worn-out and dog-eared, I’m surprised they can read them anymore.
Pretty soon, they’ll start attacking their own for the overused “cracker” remarks that their constituents use so freely.

Downstate is going to be key. Brady winning would be a godsend for him there in terms of turnout. Kirk can carry his own weight in the suburbs, and he gets the help he needs elsewhere with Brady.
There is an intense resentment of politics in general, and Chicago politics specifically for most people in downstate. It’s become so hopeless that it has really morphed into apathy, because both parties have dirty hands. They are all presumed crooked, and none are presumed to care in the least about anything but the northeast corner of the state. Get a spark going with this crowd, and it will catch fire quickly, though. Dem’s don’t have a chance at sparking that reaction. Kirk does – he’ll be on the offensive the whole time and Giannoulias will be on the defensive. Having a downstater on the ticket with him is a rare opportunity indeed.
I think most people from Illinois fully get this, but I’m not sure too many outsiders really understand the depth of the disgust in politics you’ll find in rural Illinois.
stldave on February 3, 2010 at 7:53 PM
IL will be fun to watch, for sure. I sense that the Dems destroyed themselves in the primary.

There are any number of primitive organisms that are able to take cues from the environment and alter the trajectory through space as part of an instinctive stimulus-response ritual designed to prolong their survival. This phenomenon is called Taxis.
One would think that among higher mammals such behavior would be a commonplace but I am here to tell you about newly discovered exceptions.
Members of the Obama clad lumber along blissfully ignorant of their surroundings; repeatedly victimized by the same set of errors as if caught in some kind of cognitive Cul-de-sac.
I hope to present the results of my on-going observations before the Royal Society of Bloggers this spring in VEGAS. Coffee and doughnuts will be served.

Kirk has held serve through five US house elections in a moderate/liberal district, has beaten excellent D candidates, and has taken the best (and millions) that Rahm could throw at him yet is still standing.
Naval intel officer, still serves at the Pentagon on call-up weekends, smart, sincere, and not afraid to shake your hand and ask for your vote.
Uber conservatives threw everything they had at him including all the nasty homophobe crap, and from his track record he holds conservatives, nails down independents, and pulls some D’s over to vote for him because he is a social moderate and is not apologetic about it.
In short Obama’s b-ball buddy, silver-spoon “banker” and POS IL Treasurer is in deep trouble right out of the box. Expect Obama to be in Illinois early and often.
First we took Teddy’s seat, now we take Obama’s. how’s that sound for a call to arms?
MarkT on February 3, 2010 at 10:25 PM
Great, great ad (except for the East Coast accent).
I’m also going to hold out hope that Brady, if he’s the nominee, will beat Quinn for the governor’s seat in Nov.
NebCon on February 3, 2010 at 10:31 PM
One can only hope .
Hope it works out as well as Copenhagen ,twice, West Virginia, Conneticut and Massachusetts.
Go Pinnochio go to Chitown go early go often Pinnochio. Your a rock star, your the hero 0, Illinois just can’t get enough of your voice Pinnochio!
