Video: Megyn Kelly Smacks Down Gloria Allred

posted at 11:02 pm on February 1, 2010 by Danny Glover

Four months of maternity leave didn’t mellow Megyn Kelly in the least. The Fox News anchor smacked down abortion advocate Gloria Allred today in the debut of her own show, “America Live,” during a segment about a pro-life ad set to air during Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Allred claims that the Focus on the Family ad, which features Florida University football star Tim Tebow and his mother, Pam, is “misleading” even though she hasn’t seen it.

The ad reportedly will tell the story of how Pam Tebow decided not to abort Tim even though doctors told her the pregnancy could endanger her life. Allred is threatening to file complaints with the FCC and FTC if the ad airs but does not mention her allegation that aborting the pregnancy at the time in the Philippines would have been a crime.

Kelly poked holes in Allred’s take on the ad throughout the video. She asked whether Allred believes a woman’s right to choose extends to choosing life, why she would object to someone airing an ad with a religious message, and why abortion advocates don’t air a competing ad if they are so bothered by the Tebows’ message.

“As you know, that’s the bedrock of the First Amendment,” Kelly said. “The answer to speech you don’t like is not less speech; it’s more speech.”

But the highlight of the segment comes at about the 4:30 mark. Allred ridiculously in effect argued that if Focus on the Family insists on airing an advocacy ad during a sports event, it should be compelled to air the equivalent of a mini-documentary explaining Philippines law.

Kelly’s response: “No ad can tell the entire story about the law as it stands in the Philippines. … It’s just a practical impossibility, Gloria, which would lead many to say that this is a PR stunt by you.”

Great interview by Megyn Kelly. The look on hag Allred’s face at the end of the interview was the dumbfounded look of someone who’s realized they just got b!tch slapped. Made my day.

Gang-of-One on February 2, 2010 at 12:41 AM

If abortion was illegal in the Philipines at the time and an American citizen living there wanted an abortion, all they would have to do is fly home and get one. Alred’s point is Alwet.

That’s about as useful a caricature as what the left thinks of the right. I really don’t want to end up saying “can’t we all just get along?” but all this demonizing and dehumanizing coming from both extremes is wearing on me. If you’ve never met a liberal who didn’t earnestly believe they were doing the right thing for themselves and their country, you’ve never met a liberal. I can say the same for conservatives. Is it at all possible to argue that those who disagree with you are wrong without arguing that they’re evil?

SouthernGent:Bingo and yup!:)

That. Is. Exactly. It.

It’s all about “boxes” and “people” with them. Don’t believe me? Ask three democrats, individually, what their party stands for for. Depending on who you ask, they can’t pin it down or you will need a full, brand-new legal pad to capture the insanity that they are about to spew upon you. When thy can’t answer, tell them that you understand and that their party has been hijacked and you are just as confused about Democrats as they are. After they go into a totally unrelated Bush rant, just say “I thought so”…..

Oh, and when they decide to write it out, ask them if there was a more “environmentally conscious” way to express themselves. At that point, they usually claim they were setup and demand to see your stock portfolio to prove you are just pushing Weyerhaeuser stock.

There is no end to their madness. It is based in ideology rather than morals. The problem with morals for them is that it seems too religious and therefore must have some kind of “final calling”. It scares the Gaia out of them.

I tend not to judge people or even political parties as “evil” on individual issues unless they are extreme (abortion is, can you agree on that?). Even then, let’s talk. But, the Democrat party is so far to the left that nearly all of it’s “hot” planks are poison. And I do mean ALL (see above). Stand for nothing but everything.

MarkABinVA on February 2, 2010 at 1:15 AM

Sorry for being late, and maybe this has been addressed before…

Gloria Allred – Fearless lawyer, feminist, activist, television and radio commentator, warrior, advocate, and winner – Gloria Allred is all of these things and more.”

I didn’t see “Mother” in there, did I miss something…?

Regardless…

I’m all for Gloria Allred to finance a commercial during the Super Bowl watching an ultrasound of an unborn baby being aborted and how you can see it fight to try to stay alive, along with about a dozen partial birth abortions to go along with the beer and food commercials.

Should be a hoot, right Gloria?

Come on, put your money where your fuc%ing mouth is, and show the American people what we are really talking about!

The whole straw-man argument of needing to make sure back alley abortions don’t happen is just their way of saying let’s do it on main street, the more the better. Profit is now the motive and that’s why Gloria BigMouth is involved.

ClanDerson on February 2, 2010 at 1:30 AM

What needs to be introduced into every such discussion is the overall percentage of abortions that have in fact been purchased by middle and upper-middle class white women as a means of retroactive birth control.

Chickyraptor on February 2, 2010 at 2:00 AM

Megyn is a great host, in a tasty way!

Allred looks like she is a victim of her knee-jerk. If an alternative to abortion is promoted, she has to run out and denounce it. She can’t help it. She is protecting her version of religious speech. I believe Ann Coulter called abortion the sacrament of Liberalism in her book “Godless.”

Mallard T. Drake on February 2, 2010 at 2:05 AM

Now this Gloria Allred makes indeed a fine case for when abortions would have been a good thing

just wonder why she is not opting for post-natal self-abortion.

O wait, forgot that with liberals: it always applies to others, rules, taxation etc. but never to themselves.

mooseburger on February 2, 2010 at 2:16 AM

The American state run media is distinctly responsible for the deaths of millions of aborted babies in this country. If they would report the facts and not present abortion as this procedure to remove an “unwanted growth” or clump of cells, most young women would be turning to life and adoption as an alternative. I believe they are complicit in this denial, as is the democratic party, and all will have to answer to The Almighty in the next life. Abortion is murder, plain and simple. You are taking a life for your own personal convenience. How sickening. As Americans allow this unspeakable horror to continue under the false premise of a “womans right to choose”, we continue to lose our moral authority in the world. No nation can survive if it aborts it’s future, and no nation can morally and ethically lead other nations that commits murder upon it’s yet-to-be-born.

Malpractice per se. Only a moron would comment on something not seen and studied. Well, a moron or a has-been, leftard feminist attention demanding ho in the middle of a self-serving publicity stunt. Of course, I could be wrong bout dat.

BigAlSouth on February 2, 2010 at 7:01 AM

Sweet_Thang on February 2, 2010 at 7:04 AM

From now on any ad about anything needs to have the entire world history first. So a commercial for a Honda bust be 3 hrs long documenting the history of Honda and Japan.

Man what a tool this Allred is.

angryed on February 2, 2010 at 7:07 AM

She killed Alred, an abortion-bot who really isn’t too bright. A further point is that Alred has no idea whether the ad is “religiously inspired”. Does she have a bug in Tebow’s mother’s house? What’s more, it’s none of her business what motivated the ad. If the ad has a legal, non-violent message (which is more than can be said for pro-choice ads), then she has no ground to stand on.

paul1149 on February 2, 2010 at 7:20 AM

Allred claims that the Focus on the Family ad, which features Florida University football star Tim Tebow and his mother, Pam, is “misleading” even though she hasn’t seen it.

Gloria Allred is a soulless, dried-out, attention-seeking lawyer. She’s as easy to smack down as an empty paper sack.

I question FNC for putting these idiots on to comment about an ad they never have seen. All they do, and Allred is not alone, is focus their hate on the pro-life crowd or spout moronic things about Focus on the Family as if it were some radical right wing terrorist group.

To sugggest that some sort fairness doctrine exists where some mom who killed off her kid should be given airtime is absurd. What’s the response to a pro-life ad? Some slutty woman boasting about how wonderful her life is after getting rid of the result of her drunken binge during Spring break?

BTW, for what it is worth, I credit CBS with standing by their decision to air the ad despite the controversy. It is rare that any of the state-run propagandists withstand the first wave of controversy.

According to one of the links:

it will tell the story of how Mrs. Tebow contracted amoebic dysentery while pregnant with Tim, and had to take harsh antibiotics in order to rescue her from her coma. Her doctors assured her that her child would be either stillborn or unable to survive long after birth and encouraged her to get an abortion.

I’m guessing Megyn’s right and abortion must have been legal (for her circumstances, where her life was in danger), or else why would Tim’s mother’s doctors have been encouraging her to get an abortion? It wouldn’t have made much sense for her doctors to be encouraging her to have a procedure that she couldn’t have because it was illegal.

AZCoyote on February 2, 2010 at 8:09 AM

Allred is ugly on so many levels. There is no victim here who’s rights need defending. She’s always been a camera wh*re. She just misses the spotlight… but it hasn’t missed her.

The pro-abortion crowd has made their own argument, in this instance, a red herring.

Aren’t there advocacy adds of many kinds presented on CBS and other stations, including during the Super Bowl, in which advocacy for broken homes, HIV/AIDs, abused animals, Global Warming, Affirmitive Action, and so on, are presented?

If so, where is the outrage over THOSE advocacy adds?

If those types of adds are presented and their is not outrage over them, then what is this outrage all about?

It indicates that the problem isn’t really advocacy adds, it is that the adds about protecting human life from abortionists, the advocacy for the choice of life is hated by hyperventilating, blood vessels almost popping in her neck types like Gloria Alrad.

You see, you can’t defend children from abortion. If you do then you are the enemy, under any circumstances!

There is absolutely NOT circumstances or time at which Alrad and the militant abortion troops will be satisfied with a life-choice add, or the life choice point of view.

It is indeed a horrible thing for children to find out about such a thing. I managed to keep it from my older boys until they were around 7. They didn’t know about divorce either. I thought that world was a nice place to be: no divorce, no abortion. When asked the question, however, I replied that when some women find out they have a baby in their stomachs, they don’t want it and so they have a doctor kill it. Of course, they were horrified. My younger son asked earlier, at 5. His brothers gave him the same answer I had given them. At the tender age of 5 he understood that Obama thought it was ok. He is also quite clear on why Obama is a bad president, and when his catholic school showed the president’s education speech to his kindergarten class, he said he didn’t want to watch the bad man. Children are a lot clearer thinkers than adults on matters of right and wrong.

Haunches on February 2, 2010 at 9:24 AM

Here’s Gloria’s approved ad:

Hi, my name’s Mrs. Tebow, and I didn’t exercise my fundamental and very important right to have an abortion. Did you know that, at the time I was told to have a safe, legal and completely painless abortion, abortion was actually illegal in the Philippines? Is that outrageous, or what?! Anyhow, apparently, I had this baby or something and there’s a Heisman trophy and what-all, but back to the main point of this ad, which was that Planned Parenthood believes that YOU are entitled to an abortion! So, act now to get keep abortion safe, legal and popular! Now back to your regularly scheduled Super Bowl!

Now back to your regularly scheduled Super Bowl!

morganfrost on February 2, 2010 at 9:25 AM

morganfrost,

That is a clever post, and humorous to boot!

Thank you for taking the time to share that!

Gloria Allrad is all in a tizzy because she thinks all women would have the right to an abortion, and the access to, and freedom to “choose” abortions. Hyperventalating in support of such an inhumane, cruel, vicious act.

Nevertheless, abortion is actually a bad thing, for it puts the woman at risk, and many women have been severely injured and killed while submitting to “Safe, Legal, and not so rare, Abortions,” and their babies are butchered, literally, in cruel, inhumane acts which include ripping and pulling their tiny bodies to pieces, breaking bones, etc., cutting their little bodies to pieces, pulling body parts, bloodied, damaged, out of the woman’s body and tossing them in the garbage, inducing birth and puncturing the skull of baby, inserting a suction hose and suctioning the contents of baby’s skull into a suction device, collapsing baby’s skull in on itself (that was originally a method to remove an already dead child from the mother’s body in order to protect her from injury. It is now used to kill and extract an innocent child. Tiller is accused of performing numerous extractions and bragging about it.)

Then there are Chemical abortions which include burning baby with chemicals, killing him or her.

Then there are abortificants which make the womb a hostile environement for the new human being, thus killing him or her.

All sweet, gentle, loving ways to treat an innocent human being, don’t you think so?

Allrad and her ilk LOVE that stuff.

Doesn’t that speak volumes to a sick, perverted, demented mentality and value system?

Yes. It does!

As to whether this ad should be aired, I have my reservations simply because children watch the Super Bowl and their inquisitive minds will surely ask, “What’s an abortion, Mommy?” I don’t believe that the topic of abortion is appropriate for children, no matter how inspirational the message. It’s simply too dark a topic.

You’ll have to turn off the half time show as well. The show and the ads are not fit for inquisitive minds either.

Blacksmith8 on February 2, 2010 at 9:50 AM

Thouroughly enjoyed that, especially Megyn’s assertion about Allred’s idea of “choice.”

Only sometimes, they don’t die right away

Glynn on February 2, 2010 at 10:04 AM

Gloria got in her last little plug there about back alley abortions still killing women. The latest info I could find in 5 min. is from 2004. Seven women died from legal abortions and one from illegal abortions. Hmmmm?

You let you children watch a violent game like football? Did you know they keep score in the superbowl? What will you children think? You got some splainin to do.

Megyn is the epitome of a strong, brilliant, forthright and successful woman. Everything that lefty women dream of being but can never be because, as Southern Gent quite rightly pointed out, they have no core beliefs. Welcome back Megyn, go get ‘em! You do us proud.

Progressives are big on abortion, euthanasia, for others. Thank God my Mama was pro-life.

Herb on February 2, 2010 at 10:34 AM

I used to be pro-abortion, then I realized what it is all about. The feminists lie that it is not a baby and just a bunch of cells. But by the time a woman realizes she is pregnant, the baby already has the form of a baby, even arms and leg stumps, a heart beat and the brain starts developing. That is not a bunch of cells. When I had my own first child, I saw the ultrasound at 10 weeks (8 weeks gestation) and I did not see cells, I saw an almost fully formed baby and because the skin was still see through, I could see his little heart beating. I started crying, it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. All one has to do is go to any pregnancy sight and see their development of baby pics and one will realize it is a baby. I think with the invention of the internet, a lot more people are realizing that. That is why especially the youth, even in places like CA, are turning against abortion.

Don’t know what you watch but the networks show many programs with more adult content than abortions. They embarrass my wife and me and mercy, I been to three county fairs, 4 spelling bees and a barn raising.

Herb on February 2, 2010 at 10:38 AM

I meant pregnancy sites but what a freudian slip, sight, it is a vision for sure, to see a baby form, a miracle.

immigrantchick on February 2, 2010 at 10:39 AM

Megyn Kelly is like a blade at a saw mill. She can cut through a person’s argument before they realize what hit them.

mizflame98 on February 2, 2010 at 10:39 AM

I agree with Herb. Not only the networks, but if you ever watch Nick Jr, you will be confronted with all kinds of weird and odd stuff that should not be aired to kids. They also try to brainwash kids by calling them comrades and telling them the earth needs us to save it blah blah blah. I am very cautious when I let my kids watch that stuff. I would rather them see a pro-life commercial that some of the garbage on Nick Jr or disney.

immigrantchick on February 2, 2010 at 10:42 AM

Gorrie allred lies. She is a pathological lier. She insisted at one point it was a political ad and then another point calls it religious ad.
Allred can’t stop lying. She takes a swing at women that died from illegal abortions but also refused to mention the women killed on the table in legal abortuaries.

Gorrie Allred as not seen the add but knows it is about religion politics.
Where does free speech determine what products are taboo at the superbowl ??\

On the same topic, full disclosure, should all planned parenthood show pictures of the unborn baby squirming for the moment when the cannula is forced into the brain to kill it before it is sucked empty?

seven on February 2, 2010 at 10:48 AM

Abortion is only legal in the Philippines in a case of rape or the health of the mother or child is endanger…

ZoneDaiatlas on February 2, 2010 at 10:49 AM

Gloria’s mom was penalized with her.

Akzed on February 2, 2010 at 10:52 AM

Allred claims that the Focus on the Family ad, which features Florida University football star Tim Tebow and his mother, Pam, is “misleading” even though she hasn’t seen it.

I just don’t get the whole misleading thing. How is it misleading to encourage a woman to keep her child?

Degenerate! You belong on a list. (But your wife sounds hot, if she went to a barn raising)

I love Megyn Kelly. Glad she got her own show.

BTW, it’s University of Florda (UF), not Florida University (FU).

Mandatory motherhood!?!?!
Compulsary motherhood !!!!????!!!
Are you kidding me? WTH?

Spike72AFA on February 2, 2010 at 2:00 PM

So if the pregnancy might have a risk for the fetus we should kill the fetus?

Great logic Gloria. And you’re a lawyer?
