Video: Chris Matthews compares the GOP to the Khmer Rouge

posted at 8:30 pm on February 1, 2010 by Karl

Courtesy of Ken Shepard at NewsBusters, a tasty bite of MSNBC’s Chris Matthews likening the Republican Party to genocidal Communists who slaughtered millions:

What other conclusion could you draw about a party jubilant over the election of Scott Brown, who by one measure is pretty darned liberal, and calls himself a “new breed of Republican”? Certainly, Matthews could draw no other conclusion, having called Brown’s election the “deliberate, premeditated murder … of health care.”

Not that this sort of absurd ad hominem is new for Matthews, who in the past two months also compared the GOP to the Confederacy. Indeed, Chris has been on a roll these past few weeks. He called West Point an “enemy camp.” He also called Tea Partiers “teabaggers” — all of whom were white. That one is now twice as ludicrous, in light of his “forgetting Obama was black” moment. They all say more about Matthews than his subjects.

In this case, Ken Shepard correctly notes that Matthews should apologize not only to the GOP, but to Cambodians for his casual treatment of genocide. To set an example, I will pre-emptively apologize to Matthews for my McCarthyist tactic of listing just a few of his more idiotic comments here.

If this idiot wasn’t so consumately stupid, he’d make a good comedian.

Cybergeezer on February 2, 2010 at 8:50 AM

Mr. Matthews is walking off the edge into very deep water. Somehow I sense he is trying to become th Rush Limbaugh of the left and is not doing a very good job. The results of these action are going to be his demise.

He is also taking the left with him because they are too closely associated with his views.

MSGTAS on February 2, 2010 at 8:55 AM

According to O’Reilly last night (via Neilsen) MSNBC is down 55% in their demo and 47% overall for 2009.

Fox is up 45/42 respectfully.

I swear Matthews knows he is going to get cancelled and is just lobbing bombs.

He has that “I just got out of another meeting about our ratings and ad rates being near Full House reruns on Telemundo” look.

Odie1941 on February 2, 2010 at 8:58 AM

What is incredible, and usually missed by the mainstream media, is that whenever someone on the left accuses someone on the right of doing something….. it’s usually something that the left does all the time.

afotia on February 2, 2010 at 9:01 AM

Wow. That was so amazingly insightful that, for a minute there, I almost forgot he was a white dude.

morganfrost on February 2, 2010 at 9:10 AM

Wow. Matthews was tolerable when Clinton was president, but now he has really gone off the rails. Maybe not Andrew Sullivan land, but pretty darn close.

Between Chris & Arianna, is the Left deliberately trying to trivialize mass murder? Because they recognize that a few “eggs” are going to have to be “broken” in order to bring about their new society?

rbj on February 2, 2010 at 9:13 AM

Chris Matthews has totally lost it. He cannot be taken seriously. He is a joke. The only question is who is more of a joke: Matthews or Olbermann?

Phil Byler on February 2, 2010 at 9:15 AM

It’s amazing the way this kind of crap just slips out of his mouth.

Isn’t there a script he’s working off, or some kind of editorial process, or something that could prevent this verbal diarhea?

BadgerHawk on February 2, 2010 at 9:23 AM

First Air America, can this puke be far behind. Didn’t he see zero’s speech where we need to come together. Does he not remember what the Khmer Rogue and Pol Pot did to it’s own people? I try very hard not to buy anything with the GE label on it and do not plan to watch any Olympic coverage. I know it’s a small gesture but then I am a teabagger.

Phil Byler on February 2, 2010 at 9:15 AM

I think MSNBC is more of a joke than either of these racists. That network, and thus NBC in general, continues to air these racists.

regmgr on February 2, 2010 at 10:14 AM

We should all send him a plastic bag to put over his head so he can join the Cambodians in the “Killing Fields.”

J_Crater on February 2, 2010 at 10:23 AM

Matthews is a vile excuse of a human being and this disgusting comment says it all. Place him, Olbermann, Schuster and Maddow in the dustbin of history where they belong. Their time will come and history will judge them as the bigots they are.

Dino64 on February 2, 2010 at 10:33 AM

The man is a moron and is totally without conscience. My wife went through the killing fields and lost most of her family to the Khmer Rouge. It would take too many pages to describe the suffering of the Cambodian people and Matthew’s comments are an insult to all Cambodians. No matter how worked up we might get about either major political party, neither has come even close to the barbarism perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge. To compare either party to the Khmer Rouge is reprehensible and should be grounds for dismissal.

uchoosier on February 2, 2010 at 10:34 AM

Yes, It is pathetic that this is the type of idiot that the “smart ones” get their news from….
..I don’t think Chrissy will hit Karl with “McCarthyism”….
…he will probably do the typical leftist move of calling him out for being a “nazi”.

I guess this is just Chrissy doing his part:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Yeah, well, you know what? I want to do everything I can to make this thing work, this new presidency work, and I think that —

JOE SCARBOROUGH:
Is that your job? You just talked about being a journalist!

MATTHEWS: Yeah, it is my job. My job is to help this country.

MATTHEWS: To make this work successfully. This country needs a successful presidency.

………..yea right,Chrissy is not a liberal activists at allllllllll.

I wonder if Arianna “we are not crazy like those right wingers” Huffington was available for comment?

Nozzle on February 2, 2010 at 8:44 AM

Here is how we can get our message across:

1) DO NOT buy any GE products. Boycott them in every possible way, choosing other brands of everything from light bulbs to major appliances. I know it’s a small measure, but every little bit hurts.

2) Do not hold any GE stock (that is, if you hold individual stocks). Let their stock price tumble even further than it already has.

This is a very American, capitalistic response to a company that acts in a very un-American way.

than Republicans.

You’re absolutely right, I was thinking of an earlier part of the episode. But the line about there being enough for a whole seminar fits Matthews so well.

Don’t forget what the MS stands for in MSNBC. Like its Windows operating system, the TV experience is buggy, easily the victim of malware and a loving home for worms an viral infections.

Do universities still have journalism departments (e.g. Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, Columbia University, University of Missouri, etc.)?

If so, why?

What would they teach?

Pretty much everyone on NBC or MSNBC would serve as an Exhibit A for unprofessionalism and lack of talent or objectivity.

People watch Matthews now (at least the few remaining viewers) purely to see what lunacy he will spew next.

NBC should require all of its employees to get rabies vaccines in case Chris goes feral one day.

molonlabe28 on February 2, 2010 at 12:30 PM

Pol Pot was educated in France and became involved with the Communist party while in France! This is something the liberals always do, falsely label Conservatives as Nazi’s or Communist’s when it’s Matthews himself and the Democrats ideology which is closely aligned with the Communist’s or Nazi’s! Matthews admits one of his heros is Saul Alinsky, the “Rules for Radicals” author. This guy truly is an evil clown! CrusaderPatriot.com

CrusaderPatriot on February 2, 2010 at 12:43 PM

Why would even MSNBC keep this mindless nothing-burger on the air?

AntonK on February 2, 2010 at 1:14 PM

I say keep the little bugger on… he provides oh so much free ammunition as the butt of News network jokes….

Plus, it’s always a nice reminder to know, that while everyone is not perfect… there is always someone to prove at least you have a “bit” more honor and manners, compared to some…

Razgriez on February 2, 2010 at 2:37 PM

How can we avoid GE with the coming twisty-lightbulb law coming into effect?

I wonder if we will start seeing Incandescent Bulb dealers showing up on street corners.

“Hey, wanna buy some BULBS, duuuude? Great stuff. 75 watts man. Solid price. Five bucks a 4-pack.”

I can see myself in the police news now:

“BlueStateBilly, 45, of Niagara Falls was arrested late Friday night at the corner of Pine and 19th Streets buying illegal lightbulbs. Police said he was buying in quantities suggesting trafficking. The perp claims ‘he needed all that light, man. It’s dark in my place'”

BlueStateBilly on February 2, 2010 at 2:52 PM

I wasn’t going to click into this article. Just goes to show how a great sub-headline can sell an article (“The Tingling Fields = classic!)

sweetlipsbutterhoney on February 2, 2010 at 4:04 PM

Chris Matthews fantasizes his life as the reporter in Moulin Rouge! But he’s only a drama queen posing as a reporter on television. He doesn’t cut it either as a journalist, or as a thespian. Perhaps a thesbian?

SlimyBill on February 3, 2010 at 9:46 AM

Guys, it’s going to get worse, too, than just this putz. The democrats have been in control since the days of FDR – they got spanked in 1994 and aren’t about to let that happen again. They are overextending themselves with their arrogance and thank goodness we have Michelle, Rush, Sean, et al. sounding the warnings and exposing their corruptions, but the media has a vested interest in keeping Obama afloat so I’m sure a lot of “false” reporting and slanted stories will be appearing about all conservatives/republicans between now and 2010 and especially 2012 if the republicans are victorious.

mozalf on February 3, 2010 at 11:02 AM

Yes, Mr. Matthews. And when the revolution happens you will be the first to be taken to a re-education camp
