Obamateurism of the Day
posted at 8:05 am on February 1, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
All right, this one’s for all of us who griped about Barack Obama bringing the teleprompter to a grade school and a committee meeting last week. Want to see what happens when TOTUS takes a day off? President Obama has to speak extemporaneously, as he does here in a Florida town hall last week. Darleen Click at Protein Wisdom captures this moment, which comes at about the 1:25 mark:
The Middle East is a problem that has plagued the region for centuries.
The Middle East plagues itself! For centuries! Maybe the best solution would be to move it somewhere else, then. I’d propose Chicago, but Chicago has so many plagues that it needed to send one to Washington DC for a few years.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

This man cannot speak fluidly without a teleprompter, because he does not believe in what he is saying.

It was the mayor of Tampa.

Yep, he really does need that teleprompter.

You know he’s dying to lay into Israel. The most annoying thing is that he’s holding back for political reasons, not factual ones. If there were no political repercussions I’d bet 20 bucks he’d be wearing a keffiyeh ranting about how the whole middle east would be Eden on Earth if it weren’t for those wascally joooos! You can take the Leftist Radical out of the Community Orginazation, but you can’t take the batsh*t crazy out of the Leftist Radical.

Actually, in terms of stringing words together that make technically intelligible sentences, he was managing to do that by the end. But given that he seems to have no comprehension of Israel and its history, how in h*ll does he think HE is going to “help them understand each other”???
ProfessorMiao on February 1, 2010 at 8:18 AM
Israel? trampling human rights? Shouldnt that be Hamas and the palestinians who trample human rights, steal food, shoot scud missiles. I cant stand anything that comes out of his mouth!

The entire notion of a 2 state solution is destined for failure. Blame that on Bush. He was the first US president to formally endorse such a thing and it has now become a stance that no one can back away from.
A two state solution is not possible when the existence of Israel is the real issue. No Muslim can ever accept a Jewish state in what they consider Muslim land and still be considered a Muslim.
I give Obama credit for not throwing Israel completely under the bus in front of a clearly hostile audience. It probably killed him not to, which is probably why his first sentence was so stupid. He always says something stupid when he’s trying not to say what he really wants to say.
Jaynie59 on February 1, 2010 at 8:30 AM
Wait, Wait isn’t that the Obama girl in the white blouse, sitting behind him in the photo? If it is she sure looks disenchanted by her heart throbs words.

I take it you mean Bush 41? He initiated what became the Oslo accords with the Madrid conference he set up in 1991 to toss Israel to the Arab states as a bone for “allowing” the US to liberate Kuwait. Clinton sponsored the signing ceremony for the accords.

I initially thought this wasn’t such a big deal, just an incoherent sentence- we all make such gaffes. As such I was willing to give some latitude to the filthy lying coward for not clearly articulating that Middle East region has been plagued with problems for centuries.
Then it dawned on me that the reason he muddled the sentence is directly related to the fact that his thinking on the Middle East is muddled. He knows from his liberal friends that he needs to undermine Israel but beyond that he really doesn’t have any understanding of the region and its problems. It is yet the latest of countless (and I do mean countless) ways that this President shows how utterly unfit and ill-prepared he is for the job that he got when some American voters acted stupidly.

Cyprus shows that a two state solution is possible if occupation is also part of the equation. There really isn’t any political will to do within the international community. For one thing, a two state solution would deprive the Muslim nations of one of the key rallying points they use to triangulate against the West.
Oh! and BTW, Obama is not entirely accurate in his assessment about centuries of problems. The real problems only began when the regions were inexpertly carved into “nations” after WWI and compounded by the decision to use the region as the resettlement point for European Jews after WWII.

Pretty funny watching the great orator stall for time and sweat before he is able to spout incoherent drivel that does not answer the question.
I agree that he answers difficult questions like a stammering idiot because he has to hide his true radical agenda. Also because, he is in fact, a stammering idiot.
If the MSM ever decided to reveal the true Barry to the public his administration would crumble over night.

BHO actually gave a pretty good answer. He was interrupted by the crowd, hence the pauses. I think the Obamateurism of the Day should’ve been him bowing to Tampa’s mayor. Wassup w/ that?
jgapinoy on February 1, 2010 at 9:17 AM
A B+, really? Wow what courage it took for expressing support for Israel. That’s only been part of American foreign policy since the 1940s. The reality is less with support of Israel is the way Obama refuses to deal with the threat from a nuclear Iran. It’s very clear that this administration is not interested in actually preventing such an occurrance.

Hey that B+ was just for his answer to the Palestinian question he was asked. Besides, he could have just thrown Israel under his jumbo bus; what does 60 years of foreign policy precedent mean to him?
On Iran, he has thus far earned a good solid F-

59 years of irrelevancy followed by a year where the Israelis inexplicably don’t trust the American administration. Of course, having a renowned anti-Semite like Jimmy Carter as an advisor doesn’t help with that trust factor!

Every single time B.O. opens his mouth and makes a comment about the region is enough to make some wacked-out loon over there start strapping on the jacket bomb!
pilamaye on February 1, 2010 at 10:51 AM
If you take his true meaning – since Moses led the Joooooos to the promised land, from under the yoke of Egyptian Pharoh.
Then yeah, maybe, “the Middle East”, “plaques”, and “for centuries” sort of fit together in one sentence.

Reminds me during the campaign when he was in Israel and said “Well, let me — let me be absolutely clear. Israel is a strong friend of Israel’s.” At least in that case it is absolutely clear.

This jackass said absolutely nothing using a lot of stammered words to answer that idiot girl’s question. Barry being way over his head is an understatement…. It’s actually painful and embarrassing to watch him discuss anything off teleprompter that is not some partisan rhetoric or campaign jargon which he’s got down pat since he’s never left the campaign trail. 2012 can’t get here soon enough.
