Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?
posted at 9:00 am on January 31, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
It’s time once again to choose the Obamateurism of the Week, and once again, we have so many good choices that one might get a sense of enthusiasm — perhaps even infectious enthusiasm. Feel free to do your research, but if you do, be sure you’re looking at the correct documents first. It also helps to remember where you’re at, and if you have to rely on silly crutches, don’t publish the pictures.
Previous 2010 “winners”:
- People are unhappy with Obama’s performance because he didn’t get enough public face time to explain himself
- Suddenly jobs saved or created “never expected to be the public accounting of Obama’s goal to save or create 3.5 million jobs”
- Obama rushes home for minor injury to family friend, keeps golfing after EunuchBomber attack

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

Scolding the Supreme Court over ruling that he got completely wrong during SOTU
Me thinks,this one!!

His attendance records will show he was absent most of the classes held for study of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
And he had someone else take his exams.
This can be the only explanation for his grades and complete ignorance of these principle, basic, tenets.

The Supreme Court thing for sure.

The SCOTUS scolding, but let’s face it: that was more an instance of rank dishonesty and attempted bullying than an amateurish gaffe.
Cylor on January 31, 2010 at 9:16 AM
Yes, an Obamateurism inside an Obamateurism.
WordsMatter on January 31, 2010 at 9:17 AM
Any one of these would constitute the amateur moment of the year for GWB, yet for Barry it’s just another week at the office.
Someone needs to start tabulating how much money this guy is spending on his profligate travel habits. I anticipate his firing up Air Force One so that he can have his morning constitutional at 35,000 feet in the not too distant future.
turfmann on January 31, 2010 at 9:18 AM
personally, I like the look on his face when the repubs started to laugh at him during the AASOTU address.
To bad they don’t have the ‘nads to keep up the ridicule.
That would drive him crazy…it already is.
Alinsky said…”ridicule”.
LtE126 on January 31, 2010 at 9:18 AM
Scolding the Supreme Court was not only amateurish it was in poor taste, encouraging to the crass jerks who stood up to applaud all around the judges.
A verbal assault along the lines of giving the bird to people who disagree with him.
Petty and childish is not presidential.
tru2tx on January 31, 2010 at 9:19 AM
Scolding the Supreme Court – even if he had been RIGHT – was a politically motivated (isn’t everything?) gesture that was wrong at every level. Where does this upstart attorney (who never tried one single case at the Supreme Court level)get off talking down his nose to the Supreme Court, a separate but equal branch of federal government?
When you factor in the error of his statement, well….it just boggles the mind. And this fraud was, during the campaign, said to be a “Constitutional Law Professor”?
The net result of his action? The next case the court decides – by a 5-4 vote – against the government will instantly be called “retribution by the court”.
There’s enough politics associated with the SCOTUS, as it is. We certainly don’t need more from the White House.
Were I Justice Roberts, I’d give serious consideration to staying away from all future joint sessions of Congress – at least as long as O Bomber occupies the White House.

I mean, you can tell he’s so easy. Anything that jabs him he responds to like a little b-tch.
If he walked into the firehouse, we’d have him in a straightjacket in ten minutes.
We eat little p-ssys like him for lunch…only problem is, he’s one of those “Chief, they’re picking on me because I’m black!” types.
LtE126 on January 31, 2010 at 9:24 AM
We have not elevated Obama to the status he has assigned himself so when he scolds the supreme court his amatuerism is on display.
fourdeucer on January 31, 2010 at 9:25 AM
The SCOTUS one is probably the most significant, but the Magic Johnson one is the most amusing, haha.
Lehosh on January 31, 2010 at 9:26 AM
it may sound petty, but why sit with a schmuck who doesn’t show respect to their office or his…
cmsinaz on January 31, 2010 at 9:26 AM
But pointing that out is racist. Just ask Olbermann.
Extrafishy on January 31, 2010 at 9:26 AM
This did not qualify as an Obamateurism since it was not committed by the Prescident, by the video of the Attorney General of the United States, standing up and applauding Obama’s rudeness to the Supreme Court shows just how pathetic is this administration.
Pathetic and dangerous.
BigAlSouth on January 31, 2010 at 9:27 AM

JetBoy on January 31, 2010 at 9:27 AM
SCOTUS without a doubt.
conservnut on January 31, 2010 at 9:27 AM
Ed,
Since you coined the idea and phrase Obamateurism, have you thought about putting them into a book?
As you say, the material writes itself. Not to mention the vastness of material you could use.
Might make for a great pre -2010 election book tour.
The big question is would you sell it in the humor, political, fiction, history, childrens section of the book store?
katy on January 31, 2010 at 9:28 AM
If Ed starts breaking them down by “most egregious”, “most comedic”, “most ham-fisted”, etc. he’ll never have time for anything else.
Extrafishy on January 31, 2010 at 9:30 AM
After his SOTU the # of unaffiliated voters who strongly disapprove of POTUS climbed 8 points. Rasmussen
Key West Reader on January 31, 2010 at 9:30 AM
The Supreme Court snub was just that…a snub and very political. I don’t see that as accidental. The teleprompter at a committee meeting was extremely foolish and made him look like an office temp being asked to give the annual report to the shareholders.
texabama on January 31, 2010 at 9:31 AM
Must agree with canopfer on this one. Scolding the Supreme Court Judges during the SOTU speech clearly shows this mans evil spirit, and also puts on display his total inability to live up standards the office of potus. This man is making taking the office of potus for an elevator ride straight down to the basement. Total embarrassment, and a total failure of the American electorate as well as the American media. American’s should never trust the media again; never!
Keemo on January 31, 2010 at 9:32 AM
Which is why we want him to stay out there and keep lecturing us like children. He is doing the same thing for Republican candidates that he did for gun sales.
Extrafishy on January 31, 2010 at 9:33 AM
SCOTUS, definitely. It’s classic Nobama that he tries to scold the court and commits a colossal screw-up in the process. That is a reflection of his entire first year in office – blunder upon blunder. The Clintons are amused.
Philly on January 31, 2010 at 9:34 AM
I think the obamateurism book would be located in the “thriller” section of the store. Because it’s so scarey.

He got quite a bump from his SOTU from his base. Just a couple of weeks ago, we were at -21.
IrishEi on January 31, 2010 at 9:35 AM
Obama finds the Constitution an irritant since it stands in the way of many of the fundamental transformations he wants to make to America. This attack on the Supreme Court was not a misunderstanding of the Constitution and the role of the Court. This was a purposeful, planned attack.
The Supreme Court stands in the way of his plans by being the protectorate of the Constitution. He must get rid of the Court first, then the Constitution as it presently stands. He starts with the ridicule. That’s what the instruction book dictates. The most important visibly public shot in the battle over the Constitution has been fired. It is a war for the survival of this country as we know it.
Yoop on January 31, 2010 at 9:36 AM
Wow, all those options to choose from. Is Obama the biggest goofball president ever or what? He certainly isn’t in the top half of the smartest presidents.

Not meaning to take traffice away from HotAir, but Glenn Beck’s expose on “progressives” is worth a view: http://videolink.me/flv/gb012910.html
Good program on the “progressive” movement, supported by credible scholars of history.
ObaMao is the leader of the parade. What surprises me is the number of “progressives” in their own caucus.
This movement must be destroyed. It is a threat to our nation.

reading that Rasmussen poll simply confirms Democrat support is based primarily on the tingles they get listening to him speak rather then on concrete accomplishments.
rob verdi on January 31, 2010 at 9:39 AM
All of the above would be a good choice, but in the absence of that option, scolding the Supreme Court in front of the nation when they can’t fight back is unprecedented for it’s combination of ignorance, arrogance and incivility.

Republican candidates giving campaign speeches about the 2nd Amendment while standing in the ammo section of Cabela’s will be a sure winner and drive liberals nuts. Free speech protected by the Supreme Court and the 2nd.
Cameo appearances by Ted Nugent optional.

You’re both right on target. This is a war within, there should be no mistake about it. So far, the American people seem to be seeing it. This is the war of my lifetime. The people will hopefully comprehend what is at stake; Republicans had better side with the people.

The confrontational criticism of The SCOTUS was, in my opinion, political diatribe against the Constitutional right to free speech.
.
On the other hand, confusing the source of the “created equal” quotation was not only amateur but So Joe Biden that I’m beginning to wonder if Slow Joe is proof-reading Obama’s material.
ExpressoBold on January 31, 2010 at 10:10 AM
With all due respect, I don’t believe that the POTUS was ignorant of the accuracy of the recent SCOTUS decision.
It was a direct attack on the members of the SCOTUS because they stand in the way of his plans. He hoped to sway the opinion of those citizens who were watching the SOTU address and are themselves ignorant of the Constitution.
It was a direct attack on our freedoms. This man is dangerous.
Yoop on January 31, 2010 at 10:10 AM
yoda,
We finally received our first radio air time on this recall effort last week. We are making headway despite the efforts of the media to squash us. Montana is a big state with a very small population. Things move slowly here, as most folks are working their land and herds night and day. The Tea Party movement is the biggest thing going here right now. We are now just 5K signatures short of taking this action to the next level.

Great! You were at 10K the last time I asked. Nebraska needs to watch what Montana is doing so we can get rid of future Nelson’s. Nelson is being shunned by Nebraska, so that’s some good punishment for him at the moment. Omaha Conservative has a photo of a sign that is 4 blocks from Nelson’s Omaha office to remind him and his staff that he is on his way out.
Montana is leading the way….good luck for the remaining 5K.

why would anyone want to piss off the Supreme Court? yeah, it is highly inappropriate, but it is also very stupid.
see, even Sotomayor, with all her wise Latina tendencies & big love with Bambi, is not pleased with Bambi’s criticism. It doesn’t matter if she sided with the majority on the case or not. a criticism of the “court” is a criticism of them all individually, as a group & as a branch of government.

It was almost a 5-way tie, but I pretended I had to pick one, and I went with the teleprompter. Didn’t the man start campaigning 3 years ago?
After 3 solid years, he should be able to think on his feet, but he cannot. A former editor of the Harvard law review, a lawyer, a constitutional law professor, a professional politician cannot think on his feet. This borders on the bizarre.
I would say this odd disability underlies the other 4 Obamateurisms.

One of the “progressive” ideals is to trump, if not downright destroy, the Constitution because the document limits what the government can do to the people. When ObaMao mocks the decisions of the SC in a public forum, he is setting the groundwork for overriding the fundamental framework of our nation. He is providing another “teachable moment” to manipulate the unschooled and unwary to accept his ideal of utopia and to kick our history and values aside.
The slippery part is that he has been crowned with the title “Constitutional scholar” and “professor of Constitutional law,” so that his proclamations are given a legitimacy.
ObaMao is a dangerous ideologue. He tried to make the Republicans on their retreat walk back or laugh off that label. Accepting the argument on ObaMao’s terms only strengthens his (and the “progressives’”)vision and plans.
Progessives must be mocked and challenged repeatedly. Their ideas and legislation must be destroyed in a very public way. Ridicule and stamina are called for in this fight.
