Video: Pawlenty wants to stop the spending, er, binge
posted at 1:36 pm on January 27, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
I’ve known Tim Pawlenty for a while as Minnesota governor, and despite his national reputation as too laid-back for a tough fight, he knows how to deliver a political face-wash when he wants. This probably wasn’t one of those times, however. Pawlenty appeared on Greta van Susteren’s show to introduce his new website on fiscal restraint, which is called Stop the Spending Binge. That’s binge, mind you:
The person who clipped this obviously wants to play it as an attack on Nancy Pelosi in order to drum up sympathy for the Speaker. However, it’s pretty obviously a dropped ‘n’ in binge, although South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut argued (incorrectly) that ‘bich’ is “Latin for generosity.” Stop the Spending Generosity? Mm-kay, that works, I suppose.
If Pelosi’s defenders want to make a ridiculous case like this, I’ll take it as an admission that Pelosi is the reason for the spending binge, and that she’s the one who needs to be stopped. That sounds a lot less gratuitous an argument than arguing that Pawlenty meant to call Pelosi a name on TV. Heck, even some Pawlenty doubters might like this clip for that reason, too. In the meantime, visit Stop the Spending Binge and learn something, beeyo — er, never mind.

So when does the spending ‘purge’ start?

I like Pawlenty more now. No Really.

Stop the spending, Beee-yonge.
UltimateBob on January 27, 2010 at 1:39 PM
Pawlenty = every husband who looks at the credit card bill.
BadgerHawk on January 27, 2010 at 1:39 PM
If Tim Pawlenty called Nancy Pelosi a name, even inadvertantly, it would be the most exciting thing he ever did.
DaydreamBeliever on January 27, 2010 at 1:40 PM
“Face wash”! I love the hockey lingo there Ed, but I think it’s time to go a step further and actually “drop the gloves”.
forest on January 27, 2010 at 1:40 PM
He meant spending Bichon. Otherwise T-Paw doesn’t have a dog in this fight.
Mr. D on January 27, 2010 at 1:40 PM
No YouTube at work, so I can’t watch the clip. Let’s just hope this doesn’t reduce Steve Perry’s odds at the 2012 nomination from 0.1% to 0.0%.

The other day Rush said, on the health care monstrosity, the Democrats were like “rats jumping of the sh!t, um, ship”. Also an appropriate slip-up.
forest on January 27, 2010 at 1:42 PM
This is the first interesting thing Pawlenty (aka Bore-A-Plenty) has ever said or done…
Branch Rickey on January 27, 2010 at 1:44 PM
I saw this entire interview last night and agree, it was great.
However, I’m a bit disturbed by all the Republican’s I’ve watched over the past couple of days sounding all squishy and making claims “they want to work with the President, yada yada yada”.
I don’t get it, we are pissed and don’t need to hear it right now.

Pelosi: The Spending Bitc h
Sounds about right.
Abby Adams on January 27, 2010 at 1:46 PM
I’m sorry… that’s me being petty. I retract and apologize to the Spender of the House.
Abby Adams on January 27, 2010 at 1:47 PM
Those dirty, rotten, ignorant, racist Tea Baggers sure seem to have made a big difference in the direction the elected royalty is claiming to take.
God bless them…….

Remember when Greta was Fox News’ token liberal? And when she used to ask tough questions?
YYZ on January 27, 2010 at 1:47 PM
There’s only one problem with a balanced budget Timmah… we’ll need a $500 billion annual surplus to give the US a single B credit rating…
phreshone on January 27, 2010 at 1:49 PM
Yep. Especially when they repeated it the second time it was clearly a “g”, as in “bidg”, not “ch”.
FloatingRock on January 27, 2010 at 1:49 PM
What the hell is with that screencap? Pawlently looks like Chris Collinsworth there.
fiatboomer on January 27, 2010 at 1:49 PM
That never happened.
Besides, Colmesey was always the token.
And Bob Beckel ain’t liberal enough for you?
fiatboomer on January 27, 2010 at 1:50 PM
That’s one of the meanest things I have ever read in the blogosphere.
Branch Rickey on January 27, 2010 at 1:50 PM
Stop the spending errr, Runt!
cntrlfrk on January 27, 2010 at 1:54 PM
If the President and Vice President can call people “Tea Baggers,” then “spending bitch” is just fine with me.
Youngs98 on January 27, 2010 at 1:55 PM
Pelosi is a real spending cut.
SouthernGent on January 27, 2010 at 1:56 PM
So how is this worse than elected leaders on the left deliberately calling people Tea Baggers?
Youngs98 on January 27, 2010 at 1:56 PM
I heard “bij”. What does that have to do with Peloci?

Stop the Botox Binge…!
Seven Percent Solution on January 27, 2010 at 2:00 PM
lol, I heard this when it happened, had to look away from my computer but I knew even before he corrected himself that he simply mispoke. We hear what we want to hear, and most Americans heard “spending b****” because that’s what we think of Pelosi. It has more to do with our own projections than his tongue getting tied.
Wouldn’t it be Spending Purge anyway though?
Daemonocracy on January 27, 2010 at 2:02 PM
Even she has passed the point of disgust with the dems.

Jaibones on January 27, 2010 at 2:04 PM
I see what you did there!
fiatboomer on January 27, 2010 at 2:05 PM
There wasn’t a “T”
In that word Pawlenty said.
So, what’s the problem?
Haiku Guy on January 27, 2010 at 2:08 PM
ohhhhhhh zing
RushBaby on January 27, 2010 at 2:10 PM
I agree.
It should be more like..”Attention all progressive libtard lefties:
‘You’re here to learn B!tches..show some respect and we might let you listen in without charging tuition..now get us some coffee”…only say it more politely.
Itchee Dryback on January 27, 2010 at 2:13 PM
Actually you need to apologize to female dogs everywhere.
rbj on January 27, 2010 at 2:13 PM
I like it.
But is it
“Stop the spending b1tch” or “Stop the spending, B1tch!”
Either way works for me.
Kasper Hauser on January 27, 2010 at 2:15 PM
We could save quite a bit of money and the President could gain a lot of credibility if in the SOTU he announced that all of the Democrats would fly business class from now on, by his decree, of course.
Heh.

Sing it again, rookie beeyotch.

No, I can’t say as I do. She’s simply the filler between Hannity and when they can replay O’Reilly for the West coast which is why her content is usually just one or two steps above TMZ.
highhopes on January 27, 2010 at 2:17 PM
Good, because Pelosi sure the hell isn’t!
highhopes on January 27, 2010 at 2:20 PM
ROFLMAO!!!
capejasmine on January 27, 2010 at 2:22 PM
I think that’s because most Republican politicians are actually half man and half mouse. They occasionally show their man side, but then impulsively turn and show their mouse side just to make sure it’s still there.
Extrafishy on January 27, 2010 at 2:24 PM
I really like the part about \”we\’ll never let you forget\”Ha, Haaa Haaaaaa Haa….(is their infinity symbol on this thing….)These statists are going to get their plow so cleaned 2010/2012.

Anything, even desperate leftard auido gimmicks, to keep Pawlenty off the scene is fine by me. He’s a Johnnie Mack RINO and that’s all he is. Go away, Timmy.

It that anything like “being on a precipice?”
chewmeister on January 27, 2010 at 3:21 PM
the poster of the vid was some kind of paulnut, so i’m not quite sure what his point was, unless it’s just gratuitous traffic bait.
eh on January 27, 2010 at 3:29 PM
It sounded more like he at first left out the “n” by talking too fast (“bidge”) than like he cursed freudianly.
OneGyT on January 27, 2010 at 3:31 PM
That phrase just could catch on Abby, funny stuff (the phrase, not the spender).
JusDreamin on January 27, 2010 at 3:56 PM
I think Pawlenty is using the term “binge” to play into his theme that Democrats are addicts. His comment that Obama’s “freeze” is a good start in that “the road to recovery starts with admitting you have a problem”. He’s using not even thinly veiled therapy references to paint the Democratic leadership as out of control spending addicts – which is actually pretty valid. That seems more sensible than suggesting it’s a play on words to pick on Nancy Pelosi as a female.
Jill1066 on January 27, 2010 at 4:05 PM
Funny idea, but sounded like “bidge,” not “bitch,” to me.
But “Spender of the House” is golden!
LASue on January 27, 2010 at 4:13 PM

I bet Pawlenty’s parents had to put peanut butter on his butt just to get the dog to play with him.
