“Not true”: Alito mouths words as Obama hammers Supreme Court
posted at 10:44 pm on January 27, 2010 by Allahpundit
He’s on the far left of your screen, seated to the right of Sotomayor. Politico’s calling it his Joe Wilson moment.
When you hear the president of the United States demagoging the First Amendment, you sit there and you take it, son.
Update: CBS screwed up the embed code initially. If you’re seeing the bit about Afghanistan, try refreshing. You should see the Supreme Court clip then. If not, click here. That should do it.

You must have mice in your pockets. I wasn’t part of the ‘we’ that elected Obama. IMO, THEY elected Obama POTUS, WE are going to have to live with the arrogant, condescending ignoramus currently inhabiting the WH.
SilentWatcher on January 28, 2010 at 7:12 AM
Why would the Messiah bring foreign money into the discussion of free speech? Would have anything to do with the notion that George Soros’s foreign “dollars” paved Obamas’ way into the White House?
olesparkie on January 28, 2010 at 7:12 AM
…what a POS…pandering to the useful idiots that can’t see the bigger lie behind the stated one.
In the post McCain/Feingold era the only CORPORATIONS that enjoy ‘FREE SPEECH” were the MEDIA CORPORATIONS. Their cadre of leftists talking heads and truth challenged writers/reporters are allowed to spew non-stop — even after the air waves are closed to other CORPORATIONS.
So Barry is now mad that the same MEDIA CORPORATIONS that enjoy free speech — and used that to get his inept arse in the WH — will not be the only voice allowed out there stumping for their cause — damn right he and his ilk are pissed.
M/F gave a free pass to a leftists biased media…and Johnboy McCain at the time was the media darling…he thought he could always rely on the kindness of the leftist strangers he gave a win to…what a bunch of ass-clowns.

This is ridiculous. He said nothing. Are we to believe that anyone in the audience who ever whispered to his neighbor something similar during the SOTU now owes an apology?
Obama is the one who should apology for lying to the American people.

It’s what corrupt Chicago machine trash does, to deflect from their own deeds. It tends to work, if one has the IQ of an Obama voter.

What a hypocrite. Obama got campaign money from Gaza and Saudis.

COME ON! If the president can’t lie in the SOTU, just when the hell can he lie to us? Give him a break!
Mr. Grump on January 28, 2010 at 7:55 AM
Alito mouthed the words but the target of the attack, beyond the entire SCOTUS, was Justice Kennedy who wrote the decision. And the hyperbolic idea that a century of jurisprudence is overturned with that decision is non-sense: it places things back to where they were pre-McCain/Feingold with the proviso that corporate speech is to be respected.
Now if only we could get that for individuals!
Tell you what, for all purposes of speech, lets just consider corporations to be individuals and have the exact, same limits on their speech as normal citizens have on theirs in this realm. And, no, subsidiaries and fully owned sub-components and whatnot are not separate corporations for this… that would set them on par with normal citizens, and give no more power to corporations for their money than regular citizens have with theirs. You go after citizens, you get corporations… you go after corporations, you get citizens, too. Make ‘corporate citizen’ a meaningful concept and carry out the analogy.
Hell, throw in a ’3 felonies and you are discorporated’ into the bargain and we just might be able to get rid of some of the behemoths out there. But that would really make corporations think twice before committing felonies… and police themselves a bit better.

All that loser did last night was solidify America’s decision that they, (and I emphasize, “they”) made a tragic, hideous mistake in their electing of this cry baby.
Barry has no sense of appropriate behavior. All he wanted to do last night was to rail “at the man”. I guess in his eyes, the American public is, “the man”.

Sorry you don’t like the wording of the Constitution Barry. Liberals depend on SCOTUS to make laws to suite their agenda. Sorry they let you down Barry. The four libs on the court are the ones who should have been lambasted for their votes.
I don’t like big corporate money flowing into campaigns any more than most people, but we have a system to change our laws if we don’t like them. It’s called amendments. Why wasn’t Obama calling for a constitutional amendment instead of criticizing the court (who got it right) in front of the world?
Why haven’t we had a constitutional amendment to settle abortion, marriage, eminent domain and balanced budgets?
Answer: it takes power away from liberals
Maybe Alito would like to see that birth certificate for himself now.

This was VILE and DISGUSTING. But given Obozo’s ghastly character flaws that take sociopathic proportions, I cannot say I am surprised at what he did.
It is one thing for a president to criticize a Supreme Court decision like Roe vs. Wade and say it should be overturned. That is NOT the same thing, however, as a president using a State of the Union speech to castigate, in person, a sitting bench of the Supreme Court justices. Oboze abused his bully pulpit to isolate the entire Supreme Court bench, showing crass disrespect for separation of powers and demonstrating that Obozo aspires to dictatorship. Michael Smerconish in his morning show is equating the two and to me, that simply does not compute.
The sight of everyone around the Supreme Court justices standing up and clapping while the justices remained seated was APPALLING. One got the sense that Obozo would have been even happier if those surrounding the Supreme Court justices would have been his thugs from the SEIU or other places to intimidate the justices in the true Chicago politics style we have come to know so well.
Obozo still doesn’t get it. He is still arrogant beyond all measure. We must still fight to neuter him politically to the utmost of our abilities.

You now have to wonder if Stevens decided that he won’t retire until after November so the GOP can force PBHO’s hand on a SCOTUS replacement. Pissing off the justices is stupid but par for the course of President Moron.

Hey, Obama has been quick to action.
Already this morning, he can proudly announce that Congress has banned foreign corporations from running election ads.
(The fact that this was true before his speech is of no consequence)

What a dumba$$ Obama is – publically insulting people who have lifetime positions that potentially could affect anything he proposes – and there is nothing he can do about them. Not saying they would be that petty but they’re only human – sure wouldn’t make me inclined to cut his issues any slack.
katiejane on January 28, 2010 at 9:03 AM
I routinely burn books both for heat and just plain old fun. The court was wrong to ban book burnings.
I believe the court also “took a stand” on the censorship of films like documentaries. Documentaries usually suck, so again, advantage Barry.
I hope Obama does go back to congress to pass a law that will stop us from making the false choice of unburned books and watched movies.
Dorvillian on January 28, 2010 at 9:10 AM
Barack Obama is a disgrace. He has demeaned the office of the Presidency with his partisan, whining politics and after last night I’m in firm agreement with those of you who say he hates our country. He tossed down the gauntlet last night when he said he would fight for his agenda. It’s gonna be a long 3 years and I hope to God the R’s win enough seats in November to stop this trashing of our beloved US of A.
Annietxgrl on January 28, 2010 at 9:13 AM
So where were Scalia, Thomas, and Stevens? None are seated with the Court in those chairs. Guess they didn’t feel up to a good tongue lashing at their expense.
Mr. Obama continues to prove, every day, that he has very little grasp of Leadership, Tact, Manners, or the backbone needed to stand on his own two feet and take responsibility for his mistakes. I feel this makes him the smallest of men, and will lead to tremendous problems in getting anything done, even that which most assuredly needs to be done and which is supported by both parties.
The Unions and Media Corporations got what they wanted. A puppet they could manipulate to save themselves instead of a Leader of the Country. The rest of us will have to hang together in our own defense. Because we don’t receive a defense of our lives, jobs, and values from Mr. Obama.

The Supreme Court explictly overturned a 20 year old case in its recent decision. It may not be a century’s worth of law (although the recent decision calls into question some earlier Supreme Court cases), but Obama was correct that the recent case was a change in the law by the Supreme Court.

How much contract law did Obama overturn with what he did at Chrysler? Its the job of the Supreme Court to decide when law reaches past guaranteed freedoms, not Obama’s.
I have to say that his judgment of constitutional law is faulty. He seems to want to trample it far too often for my tastes.

From the opinion, Maybel: “Austin is overruled, so it provides no basis for allowing the Government to limit corporate independent expenditures.” (Austin was a 1990 case).
I didn’t listen to the speech, so I don’t know if Obama limited his comments to foreign corporations or all corporations. If he said that the decision allowed foreign corporations to do these things, then he’s apparently wrong. But the decision does free up domestic corporations to do these things. I’ll check, Maybel.

Bankruptcy courts do not have authority to put non-preferred lenders ahead of preferred lenders. What Obama did was threaten the preferred lenders unless they agreed to give up their preferred status.
MarkTheGreat on January 28, 2010 at 10:06 AM
From the decision: The holding of McConnell rested to a large extent on an earlier case, Austin v. Michigan Chamber of Commerce, 494 U. S. 652 (1990). Austin had held that political speech may be banned based on the speaker’s corporate identity.
Jimbo3 on January 28, 2010 at 10:13 AM
No they didnt. In fact, the dissenting folks WANTED Chrysler to go to bankruptcy court – and through the process in place, however Bambi and his handlers decided to use a backdoor “since they received federal bailout funds, we can avoid bankruptcy courts”.
Oh – btw – did you see Ford reported $2.7B for 2009… How were Chrysler and GM’s numbers????
Odie1941 on January 28, 2010 at 10:14 AM
–Negotiations like that happen in most reorganization situations. The unsecured creditors try to find a way to void out the liens of secured creditors. It’s simply negotiations.
Jimbo3 on January 28, 2010 at 10:15 AM
No disrespect to you, but Mike Smerconish is an “Obama Republican”–ie, just another Obama supporter who claims to be a Republican on Bill Maher and other hard left shows. Why give this fraud ratings?
james23 on January 28, 2010 at 10:19 AM
–Chrysler used a pre-pack (a pre-packaged bankruptcy where there is general agreement among the creditors) and sold assets under Section 363. Both of those are authorized under existing bankruptcy law. Chrysler did go to bankruptcy court. I think you may be confusing bankruptcy with liquidation.
Jimbo3 on January 28, 2010 at 10:20 AM
Are you serious?
Really? “Pre-packaged banruptcy”
So the gov giving $8B in loans, which were “forgiven”, in lieu of UAW taking 55% of ownership, with Fiat getting 35% and the remaining to a union “healthcare trust fund” – while dealers and lenders lined up to protest $.29 on the dollar (which judge ruled was “fair, based on net asset worth – including $8B gov loan).
You are confused – Chrysler was a liquidation for UAW from the start and ended there. The bankruptcy proceedings were fraudulant (leading to Nardellis resigning) from the start, with UAW members lining up to get “their share” of a company they drove into the ground. BTW – hows that “investment junta” working for them???
IN case it slipped by you – Ford has reported in the black the past 3 quarters, namely due to union and management consessions.
Know what the difference is between the 2 company’s and the same UAW???? One knew entitlement was in place, regardless of financial results – in fact their gravy healthcare deal combined with net ownership guaranteed some form of compensation; the other knew it had a stake in the success of the company’s results, with no guarantees.
Ford vs the gov bailout auto makers should be highlighted every day to show how free markets thrive and gov funded bailout companies fail.

–Ford is doing better (and should be able to pick up some market share from Toyota’s problems). But Ford is not out of the woods yet and may ultimately end up being disadvantaged by the GM and Chrysler bankruptcies, because of the obligations those two companies were able to avoid.

In other words, they can still run ads favoring one candidate or another, but they cannot pay the candidates for the candidates’ own ads. The part I left out was “or donate anything else directly to the candidates”. My main point is still correct, albeit incomplete.

“With all deference to the separation of powers…” I am going to tell big, big lies to get the useful idiots riled up, and then we are going to overthrow your decisions.
The justices sitting there while all the Dems stood up and cheered against them was beyond chilling. Have we ever seen that before? I mean, maybe there have been situations where people stood up to cheer *for* them, but have they ever stood up with the President and been *against*them?
Obama got tons of money from overseas donors. That’s why he wouldn’t reveal his small donor list, and why so many donations were so strange, like $43.68 or something like that. It’s what you get in dollars after converting a round number of another currency. He also got tons of money from corporations and Wall Street “fat cats”.
If all we end up with is economic disaster after this freak is done, we will be lucky. Narcissistic meltdowns never end well.

Good on you Alito! He did not do anything that was not done by LOTS of people in that room last night, both Dem and Rep – the reason the media is harping on this is that they have to distract from the fact that that pompus piece of donkey dung insluted the Court, the Constitution and every single Founder in one fell swoop! So this has to be about ALito’s reaction not about what Obummer said to get that reaction. I am beginning to think that his law degree is a one of those call in and we’ll send you a diploma typ things, cause he obviously has ZERO understanding of the Constituion or law. Oh, and if I was a birther I would be filing another law suit this morning, lets see how willing the SCOTUS is to ignore it now.
Govgirl on January 28, 2010 at 11:00 AM
I personally know Al Gampers and have worked with CIT Group and know more about whats going on there then most people, trust me.
The operative word was “pre packaged” – as in UAW had their mitts on the deal before lenders and creditors
CIT is not unionized, nor does thier business rely on OEM manufacturing – but as a lender – rely 100% on banking agreements to lend money.
Please show me 1 case in America’s bankrupcty courts where the union went from 10-55% ownership, while creditors and lenders received $.29 on the dollar…
Odie1941 on January 28, 2010 at 11:00 AM
Not to mention the fact that the UAW refused to renegotiate Ford’s contracts after doing the same (and giving sweetheart deals) to the “new Chrysler”…
I own a Grand Caravan and really like it, but it is the last Chrysler car I will ever buy. Chrysler, like GM, was ripped from its lawful owners and given to a bunch of well-connected crooks by the Government, and I will not buy stolen goods. Ford is the only real American company left.

I imagine the success of Ford needs to be buried and the timeline of events are to be avoided.
Interesting that something “so important to Americans lives” – auto bailouts – arent even mentioned anymore. I wonder why.
I mean – out of Bambi’s list of “accomplishments” – you would think he could at least slip in the success of GM and Chrysler, yet not 1 peep…
